    We made wonderful memories with our dog and family!

    We visited on a summer vacation weekend with our 6-month-old large dog (Golden Retriever, male) and our family of four. Nasu Highlands has many dog-friendly Accommodations, and we’re really glad we chose to stay here! The Dog Comfort Cottage was spacious, and any odors were hardly noticeable. Our dog was thrilled with the sofa and the terrace. The path to the bath is a steep slope, but it was convenient that we could enter the Onsen building directly. Thanks to that steep slope, the view from the terrace was exceptional. The dinner and breakfast buffet in particular were delicious, and everyone—from the person serving us to the Hotel staff—was wonderful. Our family was truly impressed. (Thank you so much, Ms. F-sawa!) Since it was peak season, check-in took quite a while, but thanks to our Diamond member benefit of late check-out, check-out went smoothly. Next time we’d like to come at a different time. Even though it was our first trip with our dog, we felt at ease and had a comfortable stay. We’d love to stay again.

    Lonely

    I felt the quality of dinner had declined. Many dishes seemed pre-prepared. Please do not serve the fried ayu backbone dish cold. Regarding dinner time, the website shows my comment: “Dinner: if possible, from 6:30 p.m.” but it was ignored. When I called on the day to confirm, I was told dinner would be from 7:30 p.m., and that if I wanted to change it, I should request it at check-in—so what happened to my comment recorded on the website? At check-in, I was told they could change it to 6:30 p.m., but that makes me question why I was told on the phone to ask at check-in. It would have been fine if you had simply said, “We can accommodate that,” during the call. Since I checked the website immediately, I felt uncomfortable on my way there wondering why my request hadn’t been communicated. The Room refrigerator did not cool at all, as if it were broken. The beer I bought at the shop became lukewarm. When I checked again the next morning, a plastic bottle of water was still at room temperature. In the morning, there were no hairbrushes in the large public bath. Everyone was using their fingers and a hair dryer to dry their hair. There was also no hair tonic or liquid product anymore, and items like heel-care goods and peeling gel were no longer provided in the bath area. The in-room amenities have also been reduced. Having only one Room key is inconvenient; many people mention this in their Reviews, yet it has not been improved, so I do not expect changes going forward. With prices rising these days, it’s understandable to try to cut waste—but guests come for an escape from everyday life. Please reconsider whether what is being removed is truly “waste.” I have probably stayed at Laforet Nasu close to 20 times, but this time left me feeling disappointed and sad.

    Could you provide two Room keys?

    My daughter and I stayed here together. Because she was returning from the Onsen a little later, we did not lock the Room (there is no doorbell, and it was hard to hear knocking). During those few minutes, the door suddenly opened and a boy and an elderly woman came in. I was shocked and froze, and they were surprised as well. The boy loudly said the Room number, then his father rushed over, said he had the key, and took them away. As two women traveling together, we wished we had two keys. This feels even more necessary when men and women go to the Onsen separately. The Onsen is great and the location is excellent, so I strongly hope you will consider providing two keys.

    Laforet Nasu Dog Cottage C Breakfast-Only Plan

    On June 26, 2026, two adults, two children, and one small dog stayed here. Unfortunately it rained, but we enjoyed playing badminton in the gym with the kids, and after exercising we were able to relax in the spacious and clean Room in the dog cottage. Breakfast offered a well-balanced selection—not too many items, yet all high quality—so we could enjoy our meal in a calm atmosphere. We would like to stay again with a similar Plan.

    Sulfur Scent

    At check-in, we were assisted by an Asian staff member who spoke excellent Japanese and provided polite service. I already knew that toothbrushes cost extra, so I brought my own. Some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, but it was comfortable thanks to thorough renovations and cleaning. The Onsen was milky white and neutral (I recall pH 6.6), with a rich sulfur scent that was very relaxing. The bathing areas alternate on odd and even days, so we were able to enjoy both the rock open-air bath and the sauna.

    We visited with our dog. The three of us stayed in a dog cottage with a great view. It was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. They had everything we needed for our dog—food and water bowls, paw wipes, a toilet, pee pads, a waste bin, and bags—which was very helpful. The staff were also wonderful. From check-in they greeted us warmly, guided us to the welcome drink, and provided attentive service during meals. We had a truly relaxing holiday. The dinner course and the breakfast buffet were both delicious.

    The Onsen is far away.

    I stayed in a dog cottage Room. The Room was spacious and clean, but the chair and table heights didn’t match, which made it a bit inconvenient to use. To get to the Onsen, you have to go up and down a slope, so my elderly mother decided not to use it. Since it’s a dog cottage this is understandable, but the dog in the neighboring Room barked loudly from early morning, and I ended up sleep-deprived. I would have appreciated more details in advance, such as that the dog cottage Rooms are far from the Onsen. Breakfast was delicious, and all of the staff were kind and helpful.

    The Onsen is excellent.

    I have stayed here more than 10 times, and it is my favorite Accommodation. I especially love the Onsen. In the past, I had unpleasant experiences because cleaning was not done properly, such as stains in the toilet, but this time it was cleaned thoroughly. Also, compared to before, the souvenir shop has been significantly reduced in size, which was disappointing.

    Stayed with a small ...

    Stayed with a small dog in a cottage. The Room was very spacious and clean, offering the best comfort among all the dog-friendly cottages we have stayed at so far. Although there were 8 connected rooms, we were not bothered by any noise from neighboring rooms. The sunset view from the veranda was breathtaking, just like on the website, and we could clearly see the moon and stars.

    Cottage C Stay on 25th-26th December with Breakfast Included

    We stayed with 2 adults, 2 elementary school children, and a small dog. The room was very clean and spacious. Each room had heating, making our stay comfortable. The breakfast buffet was well-prepared and satisfying. The only drawback was that the onsen required a car ride from the cottage, so we rated the facility 4 stars. Overall, it was an excellent accommodation experience! We would love to stay again.

    Stay at the Dock Cottage

    The staff were very polite, and the cleaning of the dog cottage was done beautifully. The bath was also very relaxing and enjoyable. Two disappointing points: - The futon in the room was covered in mold. → It was immediately replaced. This couldn't be helped, but it was painful... - The outdoor bath had a white bottom, making the drain invisible, and I accidentally stepped on a protruding part, which caused severe pain. Overall, I think it was an excellent accommodation with great staff service.

    The front desk service was disappointing.

    Stayed for two nights on weekdays with pets and children. The room, bath, and meals were excellent, but the service at the front desk was truly disappointing. The Reservation details made through IKYU were not reflected at all—no coupons for use within the Facility were provided during check-in, and during check-out, we were charged again for children's meal costs that had already been paid at the time of Reservation. Both issues were resolved after re-confirmation by a manager; however, it required us to present our Reservation confirmation email again, which significantly delayed both check-in and check-out processes. Fortunately, there weren't many other guests due to it being a weekday. While the overall stay experience was satisfying, the beginning and end left much to be desired.

    Dinner was delicious, and the staff were attentive, making it an enjoyable meal. At the front desk, I was informed that the facility voucher could only be used at the shop, so I made purchases there. However, I later learned it could also be used for dinner; clearer explanations would have been appreciated. The next morning while relaxing in the Room, a staff member entered without permission, which caused my family to feel uneasy. Although we received a sincere apology at checkout from the front desk, I hope such incidents do not happen to other guests.

    I had a relaxing time.

    We stayed with our pet. Since pets are not allowed in the dining area, we only included breakfast. During that time, our pet waited quietly in the room. The pet bed in the room was excellent. The pet amenities were so well-prepared that you could come empty-handed without any worries. However, it was inconvenient to walk outside from the cottage to the large bathhouse. Additionally, the bathwater was lukewarm, so we felt cold on our way back as the Onsen's warming effect wore off. It was our first trip with a pet, and we made wonderful memories!

    The Onsen was great....

    The Onsen was great. However, the front desk staff were rather indifferent during check-in and check-out. There were a few staff members present, but none of them greeted or spoke to us. It was a bit disappointing.

    First Visit

    Found the perfect accommodation for staying with pets at Laforet Nasu. We stayed in the Dog Comfort Cottage (Japanese-style room), which was clean, spacious, and had an amazing view. It made us want to visit again for sure. Both we and our pet felt truly relaxed. If possible, having a setup where we can dine with pets even during colder seasons would make it even better. Thank you so much!

    Odor concerns

    I stayed at the Dog Cottage. The room was clean, but the bedding had a musty smell, making it hard to sleep well. The room was spacious, and my dog seemed happy, but the bedding was disappointing. The breakfast buffet featured delicious smoked salmon, and I enjoyed having both white rice and mixed grain rice as options.

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay at the accommodation. The building felt a bit old, but the Showa retro vibe added charm and was enjoyable. Some areas, such as the bathroom in the room, had been renovated, and as others mentioned in their reviews, I found it to be very clean. The staff were all friendly and welcoming with smiles, making my stay pleasant. However, it was disappointing that the front desk, dining area staff, and room cleaning staff were not aware of the details of my plan. I had to inform them about things like the checkout time (12:00) and that a parfait was included in my plan. It made me wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t mentioned it myself... Other than that, I enjoyed a leisurely meal, got excited over the parfait dessert, relaxed in the onsen which left my skin smooth and soft—overall having a wonderful time!

    It was a buffet plan during the summer vacation. The food selection was limited and disappointing. The breakfast buffet was the same. The Onsen had no particularly notable qualities. No ice machine, no alcohol vending machine. You can't enjoy it unless you go out somewhere else. Just an accommodation for sleeping—boring, won't come again. Mostly foreign staff members. The shop's selection is terrible, with no variety of alcohol available; better to buy from a nearby convenience store like Seven-Eleven. Not recommended for families with children at all!

    Thank you for the room upgrade.

    As an IKYU Diamond member, I was upgraded for my wedding anniversary trip, which I deeply appreciate. However, the Facility is old. That said, the staff are doing a great job. The buffet food was decent, and the front desk staff were pleasant. The quality of the Onsen water was intense—higher in sulfur content compared to past experiences in Kusatsu or Manza. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Not very dog-friendly.

    The dog-friendly cottages at Laforet Nasu consist of 3 buildings with a total of 24 rooms, but they are not very accommodating for dogs. At check-in, dogs must wait under the scorching sun, and the cottage stairs are noticeably covered with cobwebs and fallen leaves. Although there is a terrace seating area at the dining facility, it cannot be used, requiring dogs to stay alone in the room. We made a reservation through IKYU for "Breakfast Included - August 20 (Wednesday)," but later received a notification from the Hotel that an additional fee of ¥37,000 for bringing a dog would need to be paid on-site, making our one-night stay nearly ¥60,000. However, upon rechecking the rates before checkout, we found that August 20 was set significantly higher—over ¥10,000 more expensive—compared to Wednesday (27th) or Friday (22nd) of the following week. When we asked for an explanation regarding this discrepancy in pricing, we were only told that "the owner agreed at check-in," without any sincere clarification provided.

    Wi-Fi is available.

    The staff were friendly, kind, and warm from arrival to check-out, answering questions politely. The facilities and amenities were generally satisfactory for the price. However, Wi-Fi was not accessible in the Room, making it difficult to search for information about tourist spots or shops during the stay; I had to move to the lobby for internet access. Wearing yukata and slippers outside is prohibited, so changing clothes each time was inconvenient. Perhaps due to the room's orientation or overall connectivity issues in the Nasu area, this was a challenging aspect of my stay.

    I will no longer use this.

    The onsen was excellent, and the meals were delicious. However, I made a last-minute reservation during the Obon period, and I felt that the service did not match the price. Some have mentioned that efficiency seems to be prioritized by management, and I completely agree. It felt like too much focus was placed on cutting unnecessary elements, with no sense of wanting guests to enjoy a comfortable stay. Additionally, the room did not match the photos shown at the time of reservation. The photo showed a Japanese-style room with floor chairs, but there were none in reality. When I asked staff about it, they said this room does not come with floor chairs. If that's the case, they should post photos without them. I booked a Japanese-style room to relax but ended up feeling more tired instead. Also disappointing was that there were no outer garments provided to wear over yukatas. Perhaps because it was summer? But moving around in air-conditioned areas inside felt cold without them. The onsen water itself was fantastic, and restaurant staff provided very pleasant service—meals were also delicious. Even so...I don't think I'll be returning for a second visit.

    A very comfortable Hotel.

    We stayed for four nights during the summer vacation as an elderly couple. The facility itself is older, but the rooms have been renovated, were perfectly clean, and very comfortable. The view of the trees from the room was refreshing and calming. The large public bath was divided between the 4th and 5th floors with alternating access for men and women daily. The hot spring water had a cloudy texture which was excellent. However, it was slightly disappointing that the sauna was only on the 4th floor, making it available every other day. This hotel particularly stood out for its breakfast, which used high-quality ingredients with a wide variety of dishes that we enjoyed every morning. Additionally, all staff provided exceptional service; in particular, we were impressed by the car attendant on the first floor who was attentive and efficient. It’s a cost-effective hotel that makes you want to stay longer during summer again!

    It was great.

    The Hotel itself was excellent. However, since we were traveling with a dog, we stayed in the annex instead of the main building. The Room there was also wonderful, but to reach the large public bath, we had to walk to the main building with an umbrella in light rain. Because of this, we didn’t go after having alcohol. It would have been perfect if we could access the large public bath without getting wet from the rain.

    A good Hotel, but...

    I stayed on May 31st. I have stayed about 10 times, and the staff's hospitality and the onsen are excellent, making it my favorite accommodation. The breakfast is average, and it would be nice to have more unique dishes. The room is modern and nice, but the issue lies with the toilet. Out of my approximately 10 stays, including this time, there were three occasions where there was dirt on the underside of the toilet seat or outside of the bowl. I had to clean it myself with disinfectant wipes. It's very disappointing because the onsen and hospitality are great. Please ensure thorough cleaning of toilets in the future. Thank you.

    Dog-Friendly Travel

    A trip to Nasu for the first time in a while at the start of Golden Week. It’s a quiet location on the Imperial Villa side. I read various Reviews about the Room, and it was better than expected for the price. Pros: The Room was very clean, and I didn’t notice any dog odors. 　　　All water-related areas had been renovated and were spotless. 　　　I could hardly hear any noise from around (not zero, but minimal). 　　　The view from the balcony was wonderful. 　　　The sofa is low, which felt safe for our short-legged dogs (we’re usually nervous with standard-height sofas, so this was a nice plus). 　　　The flooring didn’t feel slippery. 　　　It was fun to play table tennis and badminton in the arena. So-so: The refrigerator is small (like a business Hotel type; freezer compartment included but it can’t really freeze). 　　　 It’s a bit of a walk to the Onsen (we knew that in advance, so it was fine). 　　　 I’m not a fan of yukata. Being able to stay with our dog at this size and price made us want to stay again. Since it’s stated in the Hotel information that there are no amenities, don’t forget! Nasu had hardly any foreign visitors—it felt like traveling again after quite some time lol.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    We enjoyed a peaceful stay in a quiet mountain setting. The Onsen featured a spacious, milky-white bath where we could relax. The staff provided courteous and attentive service. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with just the right portions. We would love to visit again.

    Enjoy a Wonderful Time with Your Pet

    Stayed in a cottage and had a wonderful time with my pet. However, meals and the Onsen are located in the main building, which requires walking or driving. For those with mobility issues or elderly guests, navigating the uphill and downhill roads can be challenging. Even if you drive, if the main building's parking lot is full, you'll need to park further away, which is quite inconvenient. This time we used a car for transportation, but it would be great if there were a connecting bridge from the cottage to the main building or a shortcut through forest paths—just an idea from an amateur perspective. If that were available, I could have enjoyed some drinks during meals...

    Is Onsen everything?

    The Onsen here is excellent and worth visiting just for that. However, the service level is lacking. At check-in, they forgot to provide breakfast information and tickets, and when pointed out later, their response implied it was our mistake, which was disappointing. While it's understandable that amenities are now charged separately, better prior communication would have been appreciated. Breakfast efforts are commendable, but staff could improve in clearing tables and guiding guests to seats to avoid unnecessary waiting times. Despite these issues, I would likely return just for the bath experience.
