    First Onsen Ryokan

    Thank you very much for having me stay at your Accommodation for two nights and three days from Saturday, July 25 to Monday, July 27. This was my first solo summer trip staying at an Onsen Ryokan, and I was truly happy with how spacious the Room was. I also really appreciated the complimentary services such as delicious sweets and bottled water. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, including shabu-shabu made with Kobe beef, a specialty of Hyogo Prefecture, as well as fish dishes such as salmon. This time I used the private Onsen at night by myself for the first time. In the past, I have visited Onsens with my family in places like Yatsugatake (spanning Nagano and Yamanashi) and Aizu in Fukushima. Being able to enjoy a private Onsen alone this time was very relaxing, and it was wonderful to soak slowly without worrying about anyone else around. Lastly, I had a great time on this summer trip during my two-night stay from July 25 to July 27. I will be busy with work again, but after saving up more of my salary, I would love to come back. Once again, thank you very much for taking care of me during those three days starting July 25.

    Highly satisfied

    I stayed with my siblings. The breakfast was so delicious during our previous stay that this time we chose a Plan with both breakfast and dinner. The curry at dinner was excellent, and refills were allowed. At breakfast, rice refills were also available, and they brought us a large pot of rice, so we left completely full. The bath is limited to the gold spring only, but it was a wonderful Onsen. Cleansing oil, face wash, toner, and emulsion were provided as well, which was very helpful. All the Ryokan staff were outstanding in their service. I would definitely like to stay here again when visiting Arima Onsen.

    Even though it’s a gift for my mother-in-law’s family.

    I gave an Onsen trip as a gift to my mother-in-law’s sisters and my wife’s sisters. Because my mother-in-law has weak legs, I confirmed in advance and requested a 2nd-floor Room in the comments at the time of Reservation. However, after receiving an email from IKYU recommending that I rebook due to a lower price, I made a new Reservation but forgot to add the comment, and we were assigned a 3rd-floor Room. We share some responsibility, but the lack of consideration was disappointing. The Room and bedding were clean, but the pillows were too firm and unpopular. They seemed to like the baths, but the water was lukewarm and the washing area was cold. They usually don’t bathe that many times, so it must have been very good. Dinner was disappointing because everything was served cold. Since there were elderly guests, we chose a smaller course expecting quality over quantity, but there were no signature ingredients from Akashiura, and they were surprised to be served cold sweetfish (ayu). The miso soup was also so cold it felt like it had been poured long before. Overall it felt sparse—like “where did the delicious food go?” There was also drinking by Chinese guests near the bath exit and knocking on doors late at night, which made the clientele unpleasant. At breakfast, they warned us that their signature yudofu would be hot, but it was only lukewarm—they wondered what exactly was supposed to be hot. Because Goshobessho was so good our expectations were high; we had hoped to stay here as well if this went well, but we decided against it. It’s especially disappointing because the baths themselves were good.

    I’m satisfied.

    It was less than a 10-minute walk from Arima Onsen Station, but it was raining when we arrived, so we requested the Shuttle Service. The shuttle arrived within a few minutes, and we reached the property quickly. The Room had an early Showa-era feel and was very relaxing. The bath was wonderful, and I enjoyed it many times. We made a Reservation for a slightly smaller-course dinner; everything was delicious and the portion size was just right. Breakfast also offered many side dishes and tasted great—I even had an extra serving of rice. I was satisfied in every way.

    A historic Ryokan with a traditional atmosphere

    Although it looks like a traditional three-story wooden Ryokan, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and the meals were excellent in both quality and quantity—it felt more like being welcomed at a Hotel than staying at a Ryokan. The guest room was spacious, with beds in the bedroom, which was very comfortable for older guests since there was no need to sit on the floor. A massage chair was also provided, which we really appreciated. That said, because it is an older building, noise from neighboring rooms can be noticeable—so that may be unavoidable. In any case, we were surprised by how many international guests were staying there. It is also close to the highway bus stop and the station, so the access is excellent.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    The historic building had tasteful interior design. The service was courteous and the stay was comfortable. It’s understandable that noise carries in a building like this, but it was a bit disappointing. As for the details, the darker Room atmosphere is nice, but it would be better if it could be made brighter even temporarily, and in winter it might be good to have a humidifier available at all times. I hope more guests from Japan will visit.

    The Ryokan is ideall...

    The Ryokan is ideally located, making it perfect for exploring the Arima Onsen town. The staff provided excellent service and were very kind. The only slight downside was the structure of the Onsen, which required some care when entering, making it difficult to fully relax. However, everything else was highly satisfying.

    Decent Accommodation

    We stayed as a family of three during Golden Week. The atmosphere of the accommodation was wonderful, with a historic and charming building. The room we stayed in felt like stepping back into the Meiji or Taisho era, creating a calming ambiance. However, there were some concerns: the TV was outdated, the massage chair in the room was broken and some functions did not work, and there were cobwebs on several beams near the ceiling by the window. I hope for better maintenance and inspections in these areas. Additionally, there was no welcome drink provided; instead, we were told to make tea ourselves using an electric kettle in our room. This surprised us as it was our first time experiencing such instructions at an accommodation of this level. At the large public bath's relaxation area after bathing, only a water dispenser was available—no tea or juice options were provided. I believe it would be better to stop offering daytime onsen access for non-staying guests and focus more on enhancing services for overnight guests. For dinner, we upgraded to enjoy Kobe beef as the main dish. The appetizers were very delicious, and while the steak itself was also excellent, I feel that offering something like garlic rice or ochazuke with simmered beef as a closing dish would have elevated satisfaction even further. Currently, Arima Onsen is thriving with many inbound tourists visiting daily; thus, I believe this has brought prosperity to the entire area. I hope this accommodation will prioritize improving its services rather than focusing solely on profit-making strategies moving forward.

    The overall standard is high.

    I stayed with my wife. The level of service was high, and we were satisfied. The Onsen was also great. The meals were just the right amount and delicious.

    Stayed in a special room, the stairs were dangerous and the meals were disappointing.

    We stayed at the Premium Suite Shinraku with sauna and open-air bath on February 22nd, the first day of the holiday weekend, with five people. Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing as it was not only unappetizing but also cold. Although we stayed in a special room, there was no elevator and elderly guests had to climb steep stairs to the fourth floor. There were sudden changes in level within the room that posed a tripping hazard; one friend almost fell and faced danger. The parking lot was far away, and although there was shuttle service for cars, it was very inconvenient. We later found out that there is valet service where staff park your car in front of the ryokan (Ryokan) and handle car retrievals; if we had known this from the start, it would have been much easier. We were truly disappointed by staff who lacked attentiveness. Unfortunately, I believe this ryokan (Ryokan) presents challenging conditions for elderly guests and cannot recommend it to them. Considering that each person incurs an accommodation fee of about 100,000 yen per night here, more excellent service should be provided—there are other ryokans (Ryokan) within Arima Onsen (Onsen) where I have previously stayed that offer better experiences. If we had known about these issues from the beginning, we wouldn't have made a reservation here and could have enjoyed our time more with friends elsewhere instead. Even though I used our room's open-air bath first thing after arrival—there were long hairs not belonging to me floating around which felt unhygienic too!

    A long-established Ryokan with a sense of history

    We stayed as a couple with one child. We often go on family trips, staying about 30 nights a year. This time, we used this Ryokan for our New Year's trip. - Location: It is located at the foot of an area where souvenir shops and food stalls are concentrated in Arima Onsen. Very good location. We went by car and were wondering where the parking lot was, but they parked our car with valet service. - Room: It is a Japanese-style room with a large step inside the room. Perhaps it's an appreciation of shadows, but I felt the room was slightly too dark. Since meals are served in-room, it might look more appetizing if it were brighter during meal times. The room appeared in Junichiro Tanizaki's novel; there were books placed there. - Meals: Cuisine from an established Ryokan using high-quality ingredients. In-room dining is nice. - Service: Overall good, but sometimes I felt an intimidating atmosphere stemming from the pride of being a prestigious traditional Ryokan. - Onsen: It's Kinsen (golden hot spring). Although there are separate entrances for men and women, there's a fence that prevents movement between outdoor baths inside; however, you can see each other's faces and have conversations across it. The Kinsen water is reddish-brown and quite cloudy; once you're in the water your body can't be seen—hence this design works. - Satisfaction: I think it's a Property that divides opinions based on preference. Founded during the Kamakura period over 800 years ago—though none of those original structures remain—it has nostalgic retro architecture reminiscent of when electricity first came to Japan during Taisho era times (1912–1926). For those who can enjoy this world view, it's an excellent Property to stay at.

    This was my first time staying here! It was a Ryokan I had always wanted to visit. The Room and the meals had a calm atmosphere, and I was very satisfied. The only slight disappointment was the Onsen. While the water was excellent and satisfying, the washing area was cold, and the shower took a long time to get warm, so I felt cold even after getting out of the Onsen, which was unfortunate. Also, nowadays, Ryokans where you can smoke in the Room are becoming rare, but since there were smoking rooms inside the facility or smoking areas outside, that was fine. However, this time, there were none, so I felt it was tough for smokers.

    Stays, the room atmosphere, and the meals were good, but when I tried to use the room's air conditioner, it smelled, so I couldn't use it. The temperature was neither too hot nor too cold, so I endured it, but that was the only disappointment.

    It was a great Stays where you can feel the history. The well-cleaned interior, the best kaiseki cuisine, the sparkling Kinsen bath, I'm already a repeat customer. Bravo
