It was a great Hotel that made me want to book a Multiple Night Stay.

I originally planned to stay for one night and then move to another Accommodation, but it was so comfortable that I extended my stay for a Multiple Night Stay. The property was very clean, the air conditioning worked well, and the view was beautiful. Breakfast was carefully prepared, and on the second day they changed the menu. They also provided options for children. During my stay, I enjoyed coffee, and in the evening I had a little alcohol as well. It was a wonderful stay. The view from the Room was great, and the Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Thank you very much.

    The View Kanbei Also Saw

This was my second stay. There is an outdoor barrel sauna with a panoramic view over Himeji city, and the night view is especially beautiful. A short walk uphill from the Hotel is a shrine associated with Kanbei Kuroda, and enjoying the sauna while imagining that he must have seen this same scenery made it even more special. Another highlight is being able to head to the lounge after your bath and rehydrate with unlimited beer.

    Everything was great again.

This time we stayed with a couple of friends, and they both said it was really great. The view was wonderful, and the private bath and sauna were excellent as well. Last time there weren’t any coffee cups, but this time there were, and the coffee we made in the morning by grinding the beans was delicious. We also enjoyed writing on the record. We brought our own drinks and had a great time together until around 10 p.m. However, it was disappointing that the record player wasn’t working properly—no matter which record we played, it started crackling on the last track and we couldn’t listen to it to the end. It was the same when we visited last time, so we hope it can be repaired somehow. Still, once again we were able to enjoy a very satisfying stay at an excellent value, including breakfast. If possible, we would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

A retreat-style accommodation for younger guests

This Accommodation feels like a retreat-style place aimed at younger guests in their 20s–30s. The Facility offerings are generally adequate, but since I often stay at Ryokan that cost JPY 40,000–50,000 per person, I found it somewhat inconvenient and lacking. There is no safe, no towels in the bathroom, and no in-room slippers (even though the Facility guide says there are). Drinking water also has to be brought from a dispenser on each floor (the guide says there are dispensers only on the 1st and 2nd floors; when I asked, they said there is one on the 3rd floor as well, but it wasn’t being refilled). Overall, the information in the guide has not been updated. Another concern was that the Room did not seem to be deodorized—there was a lingering smell of kimchi-style grilled meat. We opened the windows to ventilate, but there were no window screens. The staff’s smiles were pleasant, but it felt like they only responded after being asked questions. It made me wonder if they have little experience providing service at high-end Hotels or Ryokan and may still be in training; I also felt management should pay more attention to this. I searched for a Hotel in Himeji and found this place had very high ratings, which surprised me somewhat. On the positive side: it is all-inclusive and clearly geared toward younger guests. The meals used local ingredients prepared deliciously, with careful explanations provided as well, so we were satisfied.

    We’re sorry to hear that.

Staying at Setre was the main purpose of this trip. Because children were running around in the lounge, I brought the drinks I had been looking forward to back to my Room and drank there. I went back to the lounge at a different time, but it was still the same, so I tried to take drinks and snacks back to my Room; however, the snacks were left empty and not replenished. The private bath I reserved had a malfunctioning shower, so I only used the bathtub. It was clearly in a state that showed it had not been cleaned after the previous guest. The shampoo and conditioner were also not refilled and appeared to be left as used by the previous guest. The staff’s smiles were nice. The complimentary breakfast was satisfying in both portion size and taste. This may be a good choice for guests who are mainly coming for the sauna.

    High-class yet welcoming and kind

I hadn’t researched the location or how far it was from the station, and I also arrived well past the check-in time. When I tried to head there from the nearest station by train, I couldn’t get a taxi… I walked for about 10 minutes toward the area, but since it was located halfway up a mountain (on top of a small hill), I had to give up. When I called to ask what to do, they came to pick me up in a minibus—even though this is not at all the kind of Accommodation you’d associate with a small guesthouse or pension. It definitely wasn’t a road you could safely walk along at night. Since it was a Sunday stay, it was quite affordable. Room & amenities: The ceiling was very high and the room felt extremely spacious. Given the location, the view from the window is of course wonderful. It doesn’t have that classic, stately feel of a traditional luxury Hotel, but as someone relatively young, I absolutely loved the minimalist yet refined furniture and atmosphere. Overall it had a soft ambiance with some high-end pieces throughout, and details like what seemed to be custom-made vanities showed real attention to design. While using comfortable natural materials, there were also racks and other elements with a more premium “hard” look—personally, it struck an ideal balance where I could truly relax while still enjoying an appropriate sense of luxury. Service: Needless to say, excellent. I also saw staff interacting casually and skillfully with younger children as well—both adults and kids should be able to enjoy their stay comfortably. Onsen / bath: I didn’t use any private rooms that require Reservation or application; if I had, I think that would have been amazing too. The shared area had an interesting renovated-yet-old feel, though it isn’t very large. Facility & amenities: Overall everything feels modern and sophisticated. While the Hotel itself isn’t huge, the surroundings—as well as the lobby and shared observation space—feel very open thanks to both design and location, and everything was clean. There’s also a meditation room; an audio room you can use freely; and an appointment-only audiovisual room—there were so many thoughtful touches that really let you “spend your time however you like.” Meals: Breakfast was luxurious while still being very healthy. Also included were drinks (including alcohol) and light snacks available in an inclusive style. I may have rated slightly generously—but for this kind of Hotel to come pick me up like that… my score reflects my gratitude as well. Overall I was extremely satisfied—it’s a wonderful Hotel that I’d love to visit again.

    It was very good.

This was my second stay. The private bath, sauna, all-you-can-drink alcohol in the lounge, and the Room were all wonderful. Thank you for kindly warming up some milk and bringing it to me when the lounge coffee machine wouldn’t dispense milk. Also, thank you for the detailed information about the shrine located a short walk uphill. However, I was startled when the metal fitting used to hang the shower head in the large public bath came loose. We’ll be visiting again in June with a couple who are friends of ours. Thank you in advance.

The sauna with breathtaking views was amazing!

We stayed here for my partner’s birthday trip. The Facility itself felt a bit dated in places, but it has been nicely renovated, and overall we had a comfortable stay. The view from the sauna was truly amazing, with a great sense of openness. 90 minutes didn’t feel like enough. However, it was a little disappointing that there were water stains on the sauna glass. Because the view is so beautiful, I think having clearer glass would make the experience even more impressive. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with generous portions, so we were very satisfied. Compared with Setre Marina Biwako, which we used before, the lounge snacks felt a bit less substantial, but the drink selection was excellent. All of the staff greeted us with bright smiles and were very friendly. It wasn’t quite the meticulous service you might expect at a luxury Hotel, but they didn’t interfere more than necessary either, which allowed us to relax and enjoy our time together. One thing that concerned me slightly was that there were many small black particles floating in one of the large public bath tubs. Small stone fragments can be common in an Onsen and don’t bother me, but this felt different—so I wondered what it was and whether it happened only that day. Overall, we were able to unwind and my partner enjoyed it as well, so it was a great stay. If we have another chance to visit, I’d like to stay next time in a Room with a barrel sauna.

This was the most relaxing stay I’ve ever had!

I’m absolutely thrilled! There’s a Shuttle Service from Himeji Station! At check-in, you get a canelé! The night view from the bath is wonderful! It’s all-inclusive! I don’t drink beer, but Maru-F is all-you-can-drink! The grape juice was so good I had seconds! The paper cups are adorable! The private sauna Plan is the best—bath, cold bath, sauna, and an outdoor balcony for fresh-air breaks! There’s also a restroom. The hair dryer (Kinujo?) was amazing too! For breakfast, you can relax in a private room and enjoy steamed vegetables in a bamboo steamer and sea bream rice—so nice! All the staff are smiling and kind; it really puts you at ease. This time we arrived at 6:00 PM, but next time I’ll check in at 3:00 PM.

    I’ll definitely be back.

The private bath and sauna were amazing! It’s rare to find a private sauna. We enjoyed a variety of beers and wines in the lounge. We also took our drinks to the record room and relaxed while listening to The Beatles. It was truly restful, and we will definitely return—so we’ve already made a Reservation for April and June.

The staff's smiles were absolutely wonderful.

First, I was amazed by the spaciousness of the Room! It was so large that I almost got lost. However, there were some steps here and there, which I hope can be fixed in the future. Also, it was disappointing to find dust accumulated on the shelf above the bed. Other than that, everything was perfect. All the staff greeted us with smiles and provided excellent service. Most importantly, I will never forget how delicious both dinner and breakfast were. This is definitely a Hotel I'd love to visit again!

The sauna in the room is excellent.

I travel every week, and this was the best view from a Room with a sauna. There was also a large cold bath, which I enjoyed along with the scenery. It would have been perfect if there had been an open-air bath next to the cold bath. Going back inside to use the indoor bath after cooling down felt a bit inconvenient, so I only used the shower. Additionally, there were cigarette butts on the outdoor deck, which made me wonder if it hadn’t been cleaned properly, but they addressed it immediately. The large public bath on the second floor wasn’t an open-air one either, but it still offered a great view. The meals were much more delicious than I expected. Although many all-inclusive plans require separate orders for dinner items, this one included alcohol pairings with dinner. During other times of day, drinks for all-inclusive guests were available near the front desk; however, taking them back to my Room felt like too much trouble so I didn’t use that option often. Despite these minor inconveniences, the stunning views and delicious food make me want to visit again!

Highly recommended Hotel for sauna enthusiasts.

I stayed in a Room with a sauna, and it was amazing! The sauna was over 95°C before doing löyly, and despite being a relatively small barrel sauna, the stove was impressive. After doing löyly, it became intensely hot. The cold bath was very spacious and remained refreshingly cold even during this intense heatwave. If staying with six people (the maximum capacity), it might be tight for everyone to use the sauna at once, but for two people, it felt very spacious! I also appreciated that there were ion water bottles in the Room's refrigerator. The view was absolutely stunning. I could enjoy the scenery all day—morning, noon, and night. You can see the view from inside the sauna as well as while enjoying an outdoor cool-down session—it was perfect! Since it's located in the mountains, there were quite a few insects at night. However, turning off the Room lights when using the sauna at night helped reduce them significantly. The meals were beautifully presented and incredibly delicious—I was thoroughly satisfied. The service staff were also excellent. The lounge remained open throughout my stay; alcohol could be enjoyed until 2 AM and could even be taken back to your Room—a nice touch! As for amenities: only shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hand soap are provided. You'll need to bring your own toothbrushes or skincare products—something to keep in mind. Overall, I had an amazing experience! However, one thing that caught my attention was the air conditioner in the bedroom. It made quite a loud noise due to dust buildup on its filter. It would be great if this could be addressed during cleaning. As someone who loves Hotel stays and saunas alike, this has become one of my favorite Hotels! I'd love to stay in this Room again but am also curious about trying another type of Room next time—and experiencing their private saunas too. I will definitely return—thank you so much!

Worth coming to Himeji just to stay here.

"Setre Highland Villa," which I had been curious about for a while but hadn't stayed at due to its less convenient access, finally became an option when I had the chance to visit Himeji. Luckily, there was availability during my trip. Although the price was higher compared to other hotels in the area, I decided to stay. In conclusion, it was well worth the cost, and I would definitely like to stay again. The highlight of my stay was the private bath and sauna, but other aspects were also highly satisfying. I used the private bath and sauna shortly after check-in before consuming any alcohol. With no surrounding buildings obstructing the view, it offered a stunning panorama that included Himeji Castle (though visibility might be limited on rainy days). Since this visit was in summer with bright daylight, I plan to return in winter when night views can be enjoyed before dinner. The terrace also provided a great spot for enjoying night scenery (personally loved seeing Heatherwick's Spun chairs there). The lounge featured an open and spacious design where various drinks could be enjoyed comfortably for hours. On the other hand, while the restaurant offered semi-private rooms that lacked scenic views, they provided a sense of privacy conducive to focusing on food and drinks. However, there were no call buttons for staff assistance; orders could only be placed when staff passed by or during service moments—a slight inconvenience (though opting for pairing eliminates this need). Additionally, drink orders took time on two occasions requiring follow-ups (the staff promptly addressed these with apologies upon checking). This minor issue slightly affected my rating. For breakfast details: although chopstick rests were absent—something that could enhance ambiance—it wasn’t inconvenient overall. Both dinner and breakfast showcased diverse menus featuring local ingredients presented beautifully with high quality exceeding expectations despite limited nearby dining competition. Access remains challenging; however free shuttle buses from Himeji Station (reservation required) proved helpful despite some waiting time at stations due partly because Shinkansen schedules didn’t align perfectly with shuttle timings. Next time around—I’ll make visiting here itself reason enough!

A wonderful Hotel with a view of the night scenery

I was looking for a Hotel to visit Himeji Castle and initially planned to search near the station. However, I came across IKYU.com by chance and instantly fell in love, so I made a Reservation right away. The only drawback was that it took about 20 minutes by shuttle bus from Himeji Station, but the overall experience was so satisfying that it didn’t feel like a downside at all. The Room was spacious, the lounge was well-equipped and open until 2 AM, and there were even private saunas available for 90 minutes (the staff informed me during the bus Reservation process and highly recommended it). Most importantly, the front desk staff provided exceptional service—very attentive and helpful with various information for which I am truly grateful. I also owe much gratitude to the shuttle bus driver who showed great kindness with their passion for sharing Himeji’s charm. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again. However, not having any amenities available was slightly inconvenient.

Please provide two suggestions for improvement as I would like to visit multiple times.

Two points of concern: 1. Although it was before summer, the natural environment surrounded by mountains meant there were many insects. Some entered the Room, but the front desk addressed it when informed. However, please consider providing insect repellent, pesticides, and mosquito coils as standard amenities. Additionally, we would appreciate more maintenance around the cold bath near the barrel sauna; overgrown plants could use some care. After leaving the barrel sauna, I encountered a centipede which was a bit frightening... 2. It would be helpful if you could vacuum up dead insects from the window sashes inside the Room. It was quite noticeable when closing the blinds. Aside from these two points, everything else was wonderful—the lounge was excellent and dinner beautifully presented. The staff during dinner service were especially pleasant and attentive. I look forward to visiting again! Thank you in advance for your attention to these details!

It was a truly memorable trip!

I visited Himeji City to see Himeji Castle and had the opportunity to stay at SETRE, which I had always wanted to try. The staff provided excellent service and their friendly attitude was very pleasant. The room I stayed in was a Japanese Modern Room, which had been beautifully renovated and left a good impression. However, the sink was small, so when washing my face, water splashed around quite a bit. Dinner was creative and included dishes like pike conger and seaweed somen noodles that gave a sense of summer. The main dish of beef was tender and delicious, while the anago (eel) rice was exceptional! Breakfast featured a traditional Japanese set meal served in a basket with every item carefully prepared. Particularly memorable were ingredients like squid, salmon, fresh whitebait, okra, yam—all served in jars to be poured over rice for an amazing seafood bowl experience. I also enjoyed using the sauna at HARB; the breathtaking view made it incredibly relaxing. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again—thank you very much!

Highly recommended for families and sauna enthusiasts.

Located about a 20-minute drive from Himeji Castle, the property sits atop a gentle hill, offering excellent access and a stunning view of Himeji city. At check-in, we were introduced to the private sauna. Since we had children with us and were unsure about using it, the staff kindly suggested that it could also be used as a family bath. We made a reservation and thoroughly enjoyed it. The private sauna included a cold bath, regular bath, outdoor relaxation area with panoramic views of Himeji, and more. While we indulged in the sauna experience, our children had an amazing time enjoying the private bath and breathtaking scenery. It was perfect for families to relax together while also enjoying the sauna facilities. After bathing, savoring beer in the lounge was absolutely refreshing. The property also features plenty of activities such as scenic terraces, libraries, and meditation spaces—making early check-ins highly recommended to fully enjoy everything on offer. The meals were exceptionally delicious with delightful pairings that highlighted local ingredients and businesses—a thoughtful touch that left a great impression. Being all-inclusive meant there was no need to worry about additional charges during our stay—a definite plus! The warm hospitality from staff made our experience even more comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommended for families with children or sauna enthusiasts!

The room, lounge, large public bath, and sauna were all excellent. Especially in the lounge, there was a great selection of drinks and snacks to enjoy! The private sauna and food were excellent.

We enjoyed a variety of drinks during our stay. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, with generous portions that left us highly satisfied. While the Room and Facility showed some signs of age, renovated areas such as the lounge and relaxation spaces were exceptionally clean and beautiful. The newly added private sauna was also spotless and provided a relaxing experience. We would love to visit again if we have the chance!

We fully enjoyed the sauna in the private bath!

I stayed at this accommodation while planning a trip to Himeji Central Park, and the 90-minute private bath is highly recommended! - Access to the Hotel and Parking There is about a 2km mountain road with no streetlights leading to the hotel, so be cautious if driving late. The parking lot is outdoors without a roof; park in an available spot and head to the hotel entrance. (For those not traveling by car, walking to a convenience store for forgotten items like toothbrush sets can be challenging.) - Room The room had a unique smell, possibly due to the tatami mats, but it was cozy and charming with great views. Since there’s no bath in the room and no amenities provided (e.g., toothbrush set or comb), prepare these in advance. The large public bath is open until 2 AM. Additionally, there are older board games available within the hotel as well as various intriguing spaces like meditation areas. - Lounge Open 24 hours, you can enjoy light snacks along with Maruefu beer (a paradise for fans), soft drinks, or coffee while admiring outdoor views. Offerings slightly change between morning and evening. Items from the lounge can also be taken back to your room; however, carrying multiple glasses on trays might require some balance! - Private Bath & Public Bath While the public bath offers nice views but remains standard overall, don’t miss out on trying their private baths! Reservations are required along with swimwear for entry into private baths that feature saunas, cold baths, hot baths as well as outdoor relaxation areas—perfectly set up for an extended enjoyment of up-to-90 minutes! We booked Harima's private bath at night this time around where we relaxed under starry skies during our outdoor break. - Breakfast A delightful Japanese-style breakfast served beautifully inside baskets was both delicious & satisfying—with unlimited refills offered on rice/miso soup followed by coffee enjoyed back at their lounge afterward! - Other Notes Due perhaps due last-minute reservations made only one day prior—the comments left regarding requests such tickets/time slots concerning either Himeji Central Park admission/private-bath scheduling weren’t acknowledged properly resulting unavailable preferred timeslot upon arrival instead informed post-check-in directly onsite itself ideally better communication via email beforehand even same-day confirmations would've been appreciated

It was a sudden plan, but we had an enjoyable stay.

The lounge, sauna, meals, and overall experience were satisfying. Thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful and courteous service. It was a wonderful accommodation with great views. The suite's facility was limited, but the meals and service were excellent.

The eco-friendly approach is appreciated, but the lack of amenities can make traveling with children challenging due to increased luggage. Receiving sweets at check-in was a nice touch, and it would be even better if there were tea sets in the spacious Japanese-style Room, giving it a Ryokan-like feel. The size of the suite Room was sufficient, and the flat beds ensured no worries about children falling off, allowing for a restful sleep. While the Room is not new and some stains on furniture like sofas are noticeable, the toilet felt slightly cramped and difficult to use. There is a terrace next to the suite Room; however, on windy days, the door slams shut loudly, creating startling noise. It can feel noisy at night when people go in and out to enjoy the night view. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent with impeccable service—truly enjoyable experiences. If hospitality could also reflect more in Facility aspects, it would enhance future stays further. Thank you for your care during our visit!

The dinner and alcohol pairing is excellent.

I visited with my mother. The room had a high ceiling, which felt great. The snowy scenery visible from the window was also fantastic, quiet, and soothing. Dinner and the pairing drinks were truly wonderful. It had been a while since my mother strongly wished to revisit, so I was pleased. Thank you to all the staff as well. They flexibly accommodated changes in shuttle service times, and the bus driver was also very kind to us. We will visit again. Thank you very much.
