The 100 m² Japanese-...
The 100 m² Japanese-style Room is exceptionally spacious. Few Accommodations offer a Room of this size. It’s very relaxing.

Kaicho-ro is also perfect for a Multiple Night Stay.
This time, we booked a Multiple Night Stay again in the same guest room we stayed in previously: a garden open-air Onsen bath room (15-tatami main room + 4.5-tatami tea room). For impressions of the Room itself, please refer to my comments from last year. First, I’d like to share how wonderful a Multiple Night Stay is. 1) The cuisine is outstanding. As introduced on the website, the monthly menu is crafted into a course using seasonal ingredients of that month, with careful attention to presentation and tableware. That alone is excellent, but the Multiple Night Stay menus are an even more diverse lineup—an explosion of the head chef’s creativity using seasonal ingredients. Both dinner and breakfast feature menus that are almost entirely different from the monthly offerings. Truly worthy of a master artisan. 2) You can enjoy the open-air Onsen freely. Although it’s an in-room open-air Onsen bath, with only one night your time to enjoy it feels limited. With a Multiple Night Stay—especially on the second day—you have much more time for the open-air Onsen and can fully relax and enjoy it. 3) Perfect for sightseeing in Ikaho. With a Multiple Night Stay you need to leave your Room during cleaning, but if you go sightseeing in Ikaho there’s no issue at all. If you head out toward the stone steps street from Fukuichi’s side, you’ll be right below Ikaho Shrine. The shrine is close by, and from there it’s easy to find your way for a round trip to Kajika Bridge as well. The Ikaho Ropeway is also comfortable to reach—it feels like going slightly downhill from the shrine area—and on your way back you can rejoin the stone steps around the middle and enjoy various shops as you walk back up toward Fukuichi. Next, I’d like to express my gratitude for the wonderful service during our stay. The attendant who served us at dinner on our first night was someone who had also taken care of us during our previous visit. In addition to being surprised with having a Multiple Night Stay menu served on day one, she carefully explained each dish as well as three coordinated alcoholic beverages selected for pairing. I’m truly grateful, and I would love to request her again next time. From breakfast on day two onward, our attendant was also serving as Kayokoro’s sommelier. At dinner on day two, when I asked on the spot for sake that would pair well with large turban shell caught off Ito off Izu Peninsula (Daesazae), he recommended Isojiman—an excellent match for the food. He told me he studied hard and earned his sommelier qualification; very impressive indeed. I was also surprised that his name is almost identical to mine; I hope he continues thriving as Kayokoro’s sommelier. We requested Shuttle Service both ways this time, and both drivers provided calm driving along with courteous assistance when getting in and out of the vehicle—thank you very much. After checkout as well, thank you sincerely to staff who continued carrying our heavy luggage and guided us on our way out. This has gotten long, but our Multiple Night Stay at Kayokoro was simply superb—we definitely want another Multiple Night Stay next time too.

Wonderful
The Room, open-air bath, garden, meals, and service were all excellent. We can’t wait to visit again during the autumn foliage season and when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

An accommodation where you can savor both the cuisine and the room’s ambiance
Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. Points that stood out: - The large public bath is shared with Fukuichi. I understand it depends on the time of day, but since I often stay at Accommodations with fewer Rooms, I was disappointed that it felt crowded and noisy. - The refrigerator and coffee stand were set up far from the entrance, so we had to put on sandals to go there. I wondered if this is also the case for other Rooms. Staff service: Your staff were attentive to details, and they answered even small questions clearly, which made us feel at ease. Room atmosphere: It was a calm space with plenty of room, featuring both a tatami area and a sofa. We were able to relax in the open-air bath in the Room and on the deck. Meals: Not only was the Japanese kaiseki delicious, but we could also sense the intention behind the choice of tableware; it had a playful touch and was wonderful. Next time, we would like to visit again in a different season and stay in an upstairs Room. Thank you again for your hospitality.

The food was excellent.
I stayed here with my elderly parents. We requested smaller portions in advance, and the amount was perfect. We usually end up leaving some, but we finished everything. Every dish was carefully prepared, and the tableware was lovely. It was truly delicious. The Onsen in our Room was also wonderful, and my parents enjoyed it many times. The staff were very courteous and thoughtful in many ways. Thank you very much. We would love to visit again!

I was able to relax for the first time in a while.
We chose this Accommodation because the open-air bath in the Room is fed by Onsen water. From Saitama, it’s closer via the expressway than Kusatsu, so travel time is shorter, and you can enjoy the Onsen and great food. It was my first time visiting Ikaho’s stone steps; it’s compact, but even on a weekday many shops were open, and I enjoyed it. The air conditioner wasn’t working properly at first and I thought it might spoil things, but the staff handled it well, and I’m glad we chose this Accommodation. I’d love to stay here again.

This is my third time this year.
This was my third stay, about every two months. As soon as I entered the Room, I was reminded that this Accommodation offers a spacious, open feel and is truly relaxing. The meals featured seasonal selections—pike conger, sweetfish, sea urchin, and more—and the house special virgin olive oil was delicious. I ordered the sake pairing, but this time there was a rosé wine that didn’t really suit my taste. There was no tasting. Next time, I would like to have a tasting. After arriving at the Accommodation, I mentioned that I had forgotten to tell you it was my birthday stay. You suggested a commemorative photo, so I had high expectations, but it was forgotten. My husband’s slippers were taken by mistake at the large public bath; when we informed you, we were told you would bring a new pair, but they never arrived. Is this season a training period for new staff? The service on this visit was disappointing.

A Hot Spring Getaway for Two
Staying in a Room with a private Onsen was wonderful—I could soak anytime I wanted, and the water temperature was just right. Meals were served in a private dining room, with hot dishes kept hot and cold dishes kept cold, and I could really feel the care of the kitchen staff. At dinner, we enjoyed wine and sake selected by the sommelier, and it was truly exceptional. The Room was clean, the service was excellent, and we had a very satisfying holiday.

Perfect for a special trip on an ordinary day
About my experience at Kaichoro What stood out most was that the cuisine was among the best of any Accommodation I have stayed at. I told them that I cannot eat raw fish, and they kindly prepared the fish that was originally planned as sashimi as tempura or simmered dishes instead. Thanks to that, I could enjoy meals that felt the same as what my husband (who traveled with me) was eating, and we were able to share the experience with joy and genuine appreciation. At other Accommodations, I have often been served completely different ingredients or had it changed to shabu-shabu, so I was truly moved by this thoughtful approach. In addition, the concierge assigned to our Room and everyone who served our meals were impeccable—hospitality was perfect. Both male and female staff were beautifully groomed, and their kimono were so elegant that I found myself admiring them. Our Room was one of the most affordable options in this Accommodation, but it had everything we needed; it was clean and comfortable. That said, because some services are shared with Fukuichi, there were a couple of points I would like to mention. 1) Thalgo body massage I chose the highest-priced service. The aromatherapy treatment used is likely expensive, but there was no explanation at all—for example, what ingredients were in the oil and whether it should not be rinsed off afterward, or which areas were particularly tense. That said, I did appreciate that the therapist focused fully on the treatment for 90 minutes without unnecessary conversation. 2) Shopping at the shop When shopping at the store, they asked whether we needed a bag. When I asked if an S-size bag would fit my purchases, I felt their response was a bit cold. Since there was a sample display showing bag sizes, it came across as “you can tell by looking,” which made me uncomfortable. This may have been my mistake: because the bags were white, I didn’t realize where they were placed—and being corrected made me feel sorry and sad. If possible, it would have felt more considerate to say something like: “We have samples here; S may not fit these items so we recommend M,” which would have made shopping more pleasant. I mentioned two concerns above; however overall it was an extremely satisfying experience. A typhoon was approaching and we debated whether to go at all—but we are truly grateful you made us feel glad we came. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again in the future.

This was the best Ryokan I’ve stayed at in recent years. Everything was excellent. I plan to return in autumn for a Multiple Night Stay.

I’m truly impressed.
Everything was wonderful from the welcome to the send-off. The Room was clean, and I enjoyed the open-air bath many times while looking out at the garden. The large public bath was never crowded, and I was able to enjoy both the Silver Bath and the Golden Bath. Since I was traveling with my 94-year-old mother, I requested that the food be cut into smaller pieces, and I was truly moved and grateful for the chef’s thoughtful attention to detail throughout. Every dish had a subtle extra touch—delicious, beautifully presented—and we were able to enjoy our meal in a quiet private dining room at a relaxed pace. Even the flowers on display reflected such considerate care. My husband and I have been visiting Ryokan of this level every two months since turning 60, and this has become one of the Ryokan we would like to return to. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

I was satisfied.
This was our first stay, and we were very satisfied. We hardly ever encountered other guests thanks to the layout inside the Accommodation. The Room was surrounded by fresh garden greenery, and the open-air bath overlooking the garden was truly soothing for both body and mind. As for the meals, we were satisfied with both the quality and quantity at dinner and breakfast. The dishes were a feast not only for the palate but also for the eyes. If I may mention one point, my spouse and I (in our 50s) felt that the white rice cooked in a clay pot at breakfast was a bit firm. This may come down to personal preference. Also, regarding the drinks in the Room refrigerator, compared with other Accommodations of a similar grade, we felt there were slightly fewer options. We would love to stay again in a different season. Thank you very much.

I’m truly grateful.
Thinking this might be our last family trip, my sister and I brought our parents and stayed with you recently. We are truly grateful for everything, including your wonderful hospitality. My father had not been able to bathe for over 10 years, but he was able to use the open-air bath outside our Room, which deeply moved him—and my mother and sister were also thrilled. Thank you as well to the staff in charge of our Room and the young woman at the dining area for kindly accommodating my father’s final request. Next time, I hope to stay with my wife and children. On behalf of my family, thank you again for your exceptional hospitality.

Looking forward to future improvements!
This time, we stayed with high expectations given the rate of over JPY 110,000 per person, but honestly, we did not feel the level of satisfaction matched the price. When I checked the Hotel Reservation site, the average rate was JPY 80,000 even outside holiday periods. The Room was clean, but in terms of size and furnishings it lacked a sense of exclusivity or luxury for this price range. In particular, stains on the carpet stood out to me and made me question attention to maintenance in the details. The amenities also did not feel premium. As for the meals, they were centered around fish. I understand preferences vary, but at this price point I would have liked to see meat dishes such as branded beef included as well. Overall, it was disappointing that there was no “memorable dish.” The flavors themselves suited our taste. Regarding service, while their effort came through, there were signs of inexperience in etiquette and explanations, and it felt lacking in terms of refined service expected from a high-end Ryokan. A staff member came to our Room to escort us for dinner and breakfast; I am not sure if that is meant to convey a luxury Ryokan experience—this also left me doubtful. The attendant asked us to decide breakfast time immediately and suggested settling payment the day before because checkout would be crowded; however, when we went to the front desk to pay, we were told payment would be handled in the Room tomorrow. There were many inconsistencies in what the attendant told us. Overall, I could accept this experience at around JPY 50,000–60,000 per person/night range (or similar), but at the current pricing it would be difficult for us to return. This is a harsh review, but I hope for improvements going forward. There is room for improvement in both strict Hotel-style naming and pricing that raises expectations too much. Also, after checking my Receipt now (I did not notice earlier because my companion paid), I found that the massage charge amount was incorrect. While this may partly be our oversight as well (not noticing sooner), overall it did not feel like an experience worthy of an expensive Ryokan.

Before the Start of Summer
Although it was before the start of summer, I visited during a season with extreme temperature swings. I was surprised to learn that this is set as part of Fukuichi’s large Ryokan, but the open-air bath attached to the Room was soothing, with fresh green maple leaves in the garden and borrowed scenery beyond. Both dinner and breakfast were truly wonderful, and with each dish I could feel the care put into its flavor. I was fully satisfied—more than deserving of a rating above 5. The hanging scroll, “Koboku Meigeki-zu” (A Shrike on a Withered Tree), was also impressive and well worth seeing. If I had to mention one thing, I would have loved it if there were a large public bath exclusively for Kaichoro guests, or a private reservable bath, so I could enjoy a change of pace outside the Room. If I have another chance to visit Ikaho, I look forward to staying again.

We were extremely satisfied with our two-day stay!
My wife and I stayed here on our trip. It was a very satisfying one-night, two-day stay. From check-in, we were welcomed warmly and courteously. The open-air bath in the guest room was incredibly relaxing, and after bathing we enjoyed a comfortable time on the terrace next to the bath while feeling the evening breeze. The food was also delicious, and we had a wonderful time. At breakfast, the unique cheese fondue and beef curry were especially tasty. When moving around inside the Hotel, we hardly encountered other guests, so we were able to fully enjoy our time as a couple. It was also very convenient that we could access Ikaho’s Stone Steps Street directly from within the Hotel, making it easy to explore nearby sights. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. We would love to stay again if we have another opportunity.

Would definitely stay again.
It was disappointing that the amenities were not fully provided, but everything else—the Room, the in-room open-air bath, the view, the food, and the staff’s hospitality—was outstanding. It was the best Ryokan I have ever stayed at.

It was a truly wonderful stay. I felt completely stress-free throughout my visit and was able to relax from the bottom of my heart. The room with a private open-air bath was spacious, quiet, comfortable, and simply perfect. Nice and traditional, yet modern.
Although we only speak English, the staff were very helpful and did their best to explain everything in detail. The room was fantastic, and the hot spring was really nice. However, the room could use some touch-ups, as parts of the wooden deck and the blinds were already damaged. Overall, we loved this ryokan.

This is different from the photos!
Ikaho Onsen I’d wanted to visit for a long time, but I couldn’t find an Accommodation that felt right, so I hadn’t gone. Then a friend told me the Japanese Suite Room at this Accommodation might be good, so I checked it out and thought, “Yes!” So I made a Reservation and stayed here—thank you for having me. Result: Different from the photos. The meals were supposed to be good, but they were just average. That said, I’m not really a fan of traditional Ryokan cuisine in the first place, so if you like Ryokan meals, you may enjoy it. The large public bath is shared with the main Onsen facility, so it was extremely crowded. Overall, it was quite a disappointing trip.

Very satisfied
While looking for a place to visit Ikaho’s Onsen, I found this Accommodation. In conclusion, it was a wonderful stay exactly as described on the site and in the Reviews. Because it is located in a separate area away from Hotel Fukuichi, we hardly ran into other guests, and it felt like staying at a private Accommodation. It was also close to the main sightseeing spots, making it easy to explore on foot. When we moved for meals, they came to pick us up at our Room, and their service—from guiding us to the Room onward—was consistently attentive and courteous. The meals were truly delicious. Since we had seats facing the wall at dinner, we were guided to seats with an outside view for breakfast, which gave us a different atmosphere and was very enjoyable. The open-air bath with a garden and the excellent meals made this stay special—I would love to visit again in another season.

A reliable Accommodation you can enjoy with peace of mind every time. The meals and the Onsen are both very satisfying.

The only disappointing part was the large public bath.
Excellent service and tasteful furnishings in both the Room and shared areas. While the meals do not feature premium items such as fatty tuna or A5-grade wagyu, they make generous use of excellent seasonal ingredients, and you are served dishes that clearly reflect the skill and care of a talented chef. The paired drinks were also very good. The only drawback was using the large public bath. You use Fukuichi’s large public bath, but even early on it overlaps with day-use visitors, so it was hard to relax and I ended up using it only once. I think it would be nice to have a dedicated bath where you can fully enjoy Ikaho’s brown hot-spring water. Aside from that, including the staff’s attentive manner, it was a very satisfying stay—truly a luxury annex created with serious commitment by a long-established Accommodation.

Excellent Accommodation
I stayed for one night on January 18th. The quietness and the quality of the room were, of course, excellent, but above all, the quality (training) of the staff was truly outstanding. Everyone who assisted with the room or meals answered questions accurately without hesitation. For those seeking a slightly higher level of service, this is an excellent accommodation. The only downside—though it was purely coincidental—was that a young couple in the neighboring room made noise until 2:30 AM. However, when I noticed it and contacted the front desk, they promptly handled it. This was just an unfortunate incident with some unusual guests; I assume they might end up on a blacklist after this! Despite this rare occurrence, overall it was a very quiet and comfortable accommodation where I would love to stay again personally. Looking forward to my next visit! One note: not about the accommodation itself but climbing stairs can be quite challenging!
