    Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration

    We made a Reservation to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was very calm, and it was so quiet and relaxing that we almost forgot we were in Dogo. The Onsen was wonderful, and we were amazed by the generous breakfast. We enjoyed a luxurious meal in the morning and then relaxed again in the Onsen. The hostess and all the staff provided outstanding service. We would love to stay here again.

    A Highly Rated Ryokan

    I searched for and made a Reservation for a high-end Accommodation in Dogo Onsen through IKYU. Due to my travel schedule, I couldn’t have dinner or breakfast, but everything was outstanding—the Room ambiance, the well-stocked amenities, and the high quality of the Onsen. The proprietress and staff were also refined, and I felt their commitment to hospitality was thorough. Next time, I’d like to consider a Plan that includes dinner and breakfast.

    Excellent hospitality

    Among the hundreds of places I’ve stayed, this Accommodation is No. 1 for service. Staff training must be exceptionally thorough. Not only the welcome and send-off (surprisingly, many high-end Ryokan still fall short here), but also the in-house guidance, service during meals, and many other aspects—every staff member shows attentive, thoughtful care. That reflects not just individual effort but the quality of the organization as a whole. It may be thanks to the refined proprietress’s guidance (or the owner’s management policy—or both). In terms of facilities or food alone, there may be other Accommodations that surpass it, but with its outstanding hospitality added in, it’s no exaggeration to call this place the best. Considering that point, the price (not cheap by any means) feels very reasonable. Both the indoor bath in the Room and the open-air bath were excellent. In short, it was a wonderful experience. My sincere thanks to all staff members, and I highly recommend this Accommodation to everyone.

    A truly comfortable Accommodation. You can really appreciate the quality of the ingredients, the wonderfully balanced seasoning and salt level, and the chef’s dedication.     A harmonious blend of Japanese and Western design, paired with exceptional service

    Since we usually live with a sofa and a bed, we chose this Accommodation because it offers both rather than being purely traditional Japanese style—and it was the right choice. The interior and our Room had a Japanese atmosphere, beautifully arranged with seasonal touches. The meals were delicious, and the tableware and presentation were wonderful as well. Thoughtful details throughout the Room made it very comfortable to spend time in. We also relaxed in the stone open-air bath; the view through the bamboo blinds was lovely, and we could unwind at ease. The service was excellent, and the gentle smiles of the staff and proprietress remain in our hearts along with our memories of Dogo Onsen. If we have another chance to visit Dogo Onsen, we would love to stay again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    I was able to relax.

    I had such a good impression when I stayed here years ago that I decided to return after a long time. Of course, it does feel more aged than it did back then, but the calm atmosphere remains unchanged. It was a Multiple Night Stay, and each day they provided different tea sweets and small treats without repeating the same items—this is truly “the Onsen Accommodation,” where you can feel the proprietress’s thoughtfulness and sense of style in every detail. I came and went freely, yet never felt I had to be overly considerate; I’m also grateful to all the staff for their friendly, smiling service each time. I would love to visit again.

    Everything was satisfactory.

    The staff were attentive, the Room was spacious and relaxing, and the open-air bath surrounded by fresh greenery was wonderful. The service and meals were excellent—everything exceeded our expectations. The proprietress made us feel truly at home. We made a lovely memory on the last day of our trip, and we would love to return again.

    Everything was excellent except for the meals on the first night!

    We finally got to visit Dogo Onsen and made a Reservation at this Accommodation. Since it was raining that day, we asked at the last minute for a pickup from Dogo Onsen Station, and they kindly accommodated us, which was a big help. The Room, the open-air bath attached to the Room, and the view from the balcony were all outstanding! The only disappointment was the meal we had been looking forward to. The lemon garnish was browned in the center, strings were left on both sides of the snap peas, and there seemed to be sand where the green and white parts of the scallion meet... Maybe I’m just particular, but it left me feeling a bit disappointed. The staff member serving us didn’t seem to take it very seriously at first, but when I honestly said it wasn’t pleasant, the proprietress came right away to apologize. I was impressed by her prompt response.

    Simply wonderful.

    Unlike many other hotels, it isn’t a high-rise, yet the luxurious lobby space is truly overwhelming. The welcome service (matcha and sweets) and greetings from the proprietress show that Japan’s finest traditions are being carefully preserved. We were told that the ornaments in the lobby and hallways are selected by the proprietress herself. Many of the Hina dolls and Lladró figurines are essentially works of art, and it was wonderful to be able to show such fine pieces to our high school-aged child. The Room is spaciously designed. It was more than large enough for our family of three, and the wet area was properly separated. We also enjoyed the Onsen at a relaxed pace; no matter how many times we soaked, it felt just as pleasant each time—an Onsen that left that kind of impression. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals as well. First of all, the plates and bowls used were handled with great care; many had a calm, refined feel, and we could sense real attention to detail. In particular, the clam shinjo soup and tilefish simmered with grated daikon were exceptionally delicious. (It did seem like slightly too much food for my wife.) Our high school-aged child said, “I want to be able to come back to places like this again.” I truly hope this kind of Accommodation will remain for years to come, and I would love to return if given another opportunity. Thank you very much.

    We could see cherry blossoms.

    The Room layout and the open-air bath were wonderful. The trees visible from the Room were amazing. A friend joined me for dinner, and the woman who served us was very pleasant; the other staff were great as well. The entrance and lobby were also very clean, and I was very satisfied. The Onsen water was silky-smooth and left my skin feeling soft and glowing. Thank you very much.

    Welcome back.

    This was a return visit. We stayed here previously. While resting in the lounge at check-in, the proprietress came over to greet us and said, “You stayed with us about seven years ago, didn’t you?” I was truly impressed. Since we made a Reservation for the same Room as last time, it felt wonderfully nostalgic. The Room, lobby, and open-air bath were all excellent, and the kaiseki cuisine in particular was outstanding. The portions were so generous we couldn’t finish everything. My wife was delighted as well, so if we have another chance to visit Matsuyama, we will definitely stay again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    A quiet, understated Ryokan

    Rather than forced hospitality, the quiet, understated service—along with the interior design, meals, and overall atmosphere—feels truly comfortable. It brings a genuine sense of openness and helps release tension in both mind and body. The Onsen is gentle; it doesn’t feel especially like a hot spring, and there is no sauna, but the traditional ambiance is soothing. It feels like the Showa era has been recreated for today with clean, stylish interiors. (Memories may romanticize it, but the real Showa era had unbearably dated design and unclean corners in the Room.)

    It was a very satisfying accommodation.

    The Accommodation cost is high, but the experience was well worth it. Rather than a large high-rise Hotel, it’s a small three-story building with a limited number of guests, and the attentive hospitality made for a truly relaxing stay. The Room was spacious, and the open-air bath in the Room was kept filled with hot water at all times, so I enjoyed it again and again. In the lobby, soft drinks as well as draft beer are free of charge, and after-bath drinks (such as bottled milk) are also provided by the outdoor open-air bath. It was a wonderful experience.

    I felt relaxed and rejuvenated.

    The meals and the private open-air bath in the room were excellent. The meals had a wide variety of dishes, and it was great that each person could choose between fish or meat for the hot pot ingredients. The room faced the accommodation's garden, offering a quiet atmosphere, and we could enjoy the view of fallen leaves from anywhere in the room. The luxurious decor throughout the accommodation added to its charm, and the staff provided calm and attentive support, making our family feel very comfortable. The only downside was that the detached public bath was small in size, but this might not matter if you only use the private open-air bath in your room.

    This Ryokan, located...

    This Ryokan, located slightly up a gentle slope next to the Dogo Onsen Main Building, exudes the atmosphere of a hidden accommodation as its name suggests. It is about a 5-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station, and I regret insisting on a pick-up without realizing this. I was humbled by the warm welcome from the proprietress, which is rare these days. Her refined demeanor and elegant gestures left an impressive impression. Additionally, I was deeply moved by the sophisticated hospitality of all female staff members who attended to us during meals. Their perfect timing in serving dishes and detailed explanations enhanced our dining experience. Even my less-than-graceful jokes were met with good humor, creating a pleasant atmosphere that made the food even more enjoyable. The male staff at reception also provided valuable advice for our sightseeing plans. The cuisine was exceptional. Being particular about Japanese food, I had made specific requests to the proprietress beforehand and now feel embarrassed about it. Most dishes featured locally sourced ingredients of top quality in season, prepared with advanced techniques for both taste and presentation using exquisite tableware. The portions were generous, making every dish equally delightful. The room was impeccably clean with thoughtful attention to detail throughout. However, my wife mentioned that having a small stool at the room's entrance would be helpful when putting on shoes due to her knee issues—a minor suggestion for improvement. Although high-rise buildings could be seen outside the window, we were so impressed by the hospitality, meals, and ambiance of our room that it did not bother us at all. Both the open-air bath and large communal bath were thoroughly enjoyable with excellent water quality. It is rare to encounter such an outstanding team of staff led by such an exceptional proprietress at any Ryokan I've visited before. My gratitude extends also to the head chef for skillfully crafting high-end dishes using local ingredients in line with "local production for local consumption." This was my first visit to Shikoku but staying here made me feel it was truly worth coming all this way—and especially visiting Dogo Onsen. As someone elderly with health concerns who usually decides not to revisit accommodations after staying once—I must say this time feels different thanks entirely due largely because everything including hospitality from everyone involved (proprietress included), delicious cuisine & relaxing open-air baths exceeded expectations beyond measure! Please continue maintaining your current standards; thank you very much!

    Enjoy Dogo Onsen

    The room offers a view of the garden, and the scenery is truly stunning. Who would have thought such a beautiful garden exists in the heart of Dogo? I would love to stay again during the autumn foliage season. The meals are also incredibly delicious. However, I wish there was more explanation about the ingredients, such as their origin in Ehime and their background. It might be difficult for staff to explain everything, so including detailed information on a menu could enhance the experience by making guests feel they’ve truly enjoyed Ehime’s local delicacies during their visit to Dogo. Overall, my stay exceeded expectations and was highly satisfying. If given another opportunity, I would definitely stay at this accommodation again. Highly recommended!

    The meals are delicious.

    Overall, it was great. The free drinks were a nice touch! For dinner, you can choose between meat or fish for the hot pot. However, I noticed that the udon noodles placed under the raw meat absorbed some of the red juices from the meat, which was a bit unpleasant. That said, the food overall was delicious. It would be even better if freshly cooked rice in an earthenware pot was offered!

    The finest hospitality and the best rooms

    From the moment we arrived, we received exceptional hospitality, though we felt a bit shy due to not being used to such attentive service. The private open-air bath in our room was spacious and offered the luxury of having it all to ourselves. We were amazed by the freshness of the lettuce in the breakfast salad—it was so crisp that it made a sound! It would have been better if the lockers near the separate open-air bath were arranged to avoid overlap with other guests. Even so, this Ryokan was outstanding and well worth traveling from afar. It became an unforgettable family trip!

    The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were flavorful yet gentle and very delicious. The Onsen water was smooth without the typical sulfur smell, leaving the skin silky and feeling amazing.     Family Trip

    A Ryokan that you will always feel was a great choice no matter how many times you visit. The food, bath, and service are impeccable. Even though there was heavy rain at night, no sound could be heard from the Room, allowing us to sleep peacefully until morning. My daughter was very happy and said that out of all the places she has been to, Oborozukiyo is her favorite. We will definitely visit again!

    The meals, staff hospitality, and the Room were all very satisfying. However, one small point is that perhaps due to the chef's enthusiasm for service, not only was the food delicious but there were so many dishes that I couldn't finish them all, which made me feel sorry.

    The Best Accommodation

    This was our second stay with my elderly mother and sister. We have stayed at other accommodations in Dogo, but this is truly the best. The hostess greeted us three times, making us feel genuinely cared for. The open-air bath has handrails, allowing my elderly mother to use it safely and comfortably. From the private dining room, we could enjoy a view of the garden along with the delicious cuisine. We are already looking forward to staying again in autumn!

    A Wonderful Journey

    It was an exceptional accommodation, so perfect that it was hard to find any flaws. The meals were outstanding, not only in taste but also with the joy of experiencing different tableware each month. I enjoyed the private open-air bath multiple times and relaxed in the adjacent rest area, fully embracing a sense of tranquility. The free drinks in the room included a wide variety of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, more than I could finish. Although it was just a one-night stay, I genuinely wished to extend it to two nights. If I were to suggest areas for improvement, it would be the garden view. The courtyard visible from the room lacked appeal and had overgrown grass. Additionally, from the open-air bath, fences or windows were visible, which made me slightly concerned about privacy—wondering if anyone could see inside. Lastly (though this is unavoidable), there was a large spider enjoying the open-air bath with me. For those who might be bothered by this, informing reception would likely resolve such issues promptly. As for me, I endured it as an attempt to appear brave!

    A calm and relaxing accommodation with exceptional hospitality from the hostess.

    During Golden Week, traffic is heavy everywhere, so this time we decided to enjoy a trip within 30 minutes from home and visited Dogo. Our first stay at Oborozukiyo was delightful with its cleanliness and the excellent hospitality of the staff. Shortly after our arrival, we were welcomed with our favorite Yamadaya Manju and matcha tea. The proprietress came to greet us—petite, elegant, charmingly playful—and I instantly became a big fan of hers. The interior featured tastefully displayed decorations like Lladró helmets and dolls. We stayed in a ground-floor room overlooking a lush garden that was very relaxing; however, as we usually choose accommodations with ocean views, it felt slightly lacking in comparison. Regarding the room: - The selection of tea sweets and free drinks was excellent. - The bed size was small, and there was an awkward pillar close to my face that felt cramped. - The sofa size was also small and not designed for lounging comfortably. - The private bath in the room was spacious with high-quality water. - Amenities were somewhat low quality; there wasn’t even a sponge for washing the body. - Coffee brewed from beans selected at the lounge was delicious and satisfying. - At dinner time when visiting the dining area, everyone greeted us warmly by bowing deeply—a gesture reflecting the accommodation's prestige. - Dinner dishes were visually appealing and flavorful; however, I would have preferred freshly cooked rice made in an earthen pot. After dinner, we took a stroll to enjoy the onsen town atmosphere—it’s conveniently located at just the right distance from Dogo Onsen Honkan. In such peaceful surroundings while enjoying music borrowed from their lounge... I indulged in luxurious moments soaking leisurely in onsen water said to be identical to Dogo Onsen’s quality—choosing only our private bath this time. I look forward to meeting the proprietress again someday for another healing experience!
