The fresh fish dishes are exquisite.

The fresh fish sashimi was outstanding. The meat dishes were also delicious, and we were very satisfied. The service was courteous and attentive. I think this Accommodation would be comfortable with no issues for guests up to their 60s. As Tokiwaya is a traditional Ryokan, I felt there are many challenges in terms of accessibility. I stayed with my 95-year-old mother, so I made a Reservation for a Room with a private bath, but there were many steps inside the Room and the bathtub was deep (my mother was able to step over it), which unfortunately made it difficult to use.

    Enjoy a worry-free family vacation.

I stayed in Room 402 and was very satisfied with the view of the sea and Morokuchi Shrine from the window. The open-air bath (family bath) was very pleasant to use, but I was a little disappointed to find brown water stains on the chair and bucket in the shower room of the room. However, everything else was perfect, and both adults and children had a very comfortable stay. The hotel staff were very kind, which made us feel warm and reassured.

    Minimum, frustrating!

I rarely write reviews, but I was truly upset with this hotel! I booked a Simmons twin bed Japanese-style room for one person, but the hotel only replaced sheets and duvet covers for one bed. While that would have been fine, they were extremely dirty, mismatched in color with the pillowcase, and even had yellow stains on the sheets! The other bed had no sheets or duvet cover at all, leaving the dirty mattress exposed. Just as shown in my photos! When I called the front desk, there was no apology. Later, a staff member replaced them with completely clean sheets and duvet covers—proving they did have clean ones available! While it may not have been intentional, there was absolutely no sense of care or respect for guests. As for breakfast and dinner—they were very basic and just barely edible. I hope this review is helpful to others.

    Comfortable even for wheelchair users.

We stayed in the 【Stone Private Bath Japanese-Western Room】, a barrier-free accessible Room, as a family member uses a wheelchair. Both the toilet and bathroom were well-equipped for accessibility, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. The elevator was slightly narrow but posed no issues. The temperature of the private bath in the Room was not ideal, possibly due to boiler issues, but it was promptly adjusted after we contacted staff. Thank you for your quick response!

There are employees with zero hospitality.

At check-in, I was told the dining location and table number. When I went for dinner, an older woman asked, "What is your table number?" and when I couldn't remember, she said in a strong tone, "I told you earlier, didn't I?" After giving my name and Room number, she confirmed and guided me to my seat, but I was shocked when she muttered, "There's no point in telling you." There were only five groups of guests at the time, and only one other pair besides us. The names were placed on the tables, making it easy to find our seats. I couldn't understand why she would make such a sarcastic remark. I felt uneasy throughout the meal, and every time she passed by, I got irritated. I was looking forward to the meal, but it was ruined. The meal itself looked sophisticated and delicious in the photos, but in reality, it was quite different. It was a typical Ryokan meal with many dishes lined up, self-service water, and no warm tea served with dessert. I was so upset that I went to the front desk after the meal and mentioned that something rude had happened. When I returned to my Room, another person came to apologize, which was nice, but during the conversation, they said, "I confirmed with her, and she admitted she said it. I will give her proper guidance," using polite language towards the employee, which left me astonished. Is she perhaps a very intimidating senior staff member? It was truly a disappointing Ryokan. However, the breakfast the next day was delicious, and the young man who served us was very polite and kind. I should add that there were some good points. I will never go again, but for those planning to visit this Ryokan, be aware that there are employees with zero hospitality.

I was very satisfied with the ryokan.

I was looking for a ryokan in Nishi-Izu where I could enjoy a reasonably priced yet luxurious meal, and I found Tokiwaya. We stayed with our family, including a 2-year-old, and the staff were kind and attentive, which made us very satisfied! The building itself feels like a traditional ryokan, but it is well-cleaned and beautiful. The room was a spacious Japanese-style room with a sufficient view of the sea. There are two private baths, and you can use them if they are not crowded. The large public bath is not particularly noteworthy, but it was spacious enough to enjoy comfortably. The meals were very luxurious! They included a boat platter (so much that we couldn't finish it) and seasonal dishes, which were delicious! We were very satisfied. I would definitely like to use it again if I have the opportunity.
