    Onsen and meals were amazing!!

    This was my first stay. The Onsen is hot, but it warms you up wonderfully. The meals were beautifully presented, and even the simple dishes served in small bowls were delicious. I was completely satisfied with every dish. The Facility has many stairs, so it’s a good workout for your legs, and the hallways are lined with one painting after another—making even the long corridors enjoyable!! All of the staff were very kind as well. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us!!

    Feel the Autumn of Your Hometown

    This is our favorite accommodation, and we visit almost every year. However, this was our first time staying during the autumn foliage season. The colorful leaves around the accommodation were truly stunning, and it made me appreciate that this area is connected to Tatsuyuki Takano, who wrote the lyrics for the song "Momiji" (Autumn Leaves). This time, we also had the chance to see locals boiling vegetables at Asagama, which gave us a deep sense of hometown autumn and left us very satisfied. Every time we stay here, the delicious meals and high-quality hot springs help rejuvenate us. Additionally, all of the staff are incredibly pleasant and attentive to every detail. We look forward to coming again next year!

    Conveniently located for visiting public hot springs.

    We stayed as a family of three. The dinner, starting with a shared dish, was very delicious. The horse sashimi we ordered as an option was also excellent. However, since we don't drink alcohol, the two-hour duration felt long; quicker service would have been appreciated. The grilled fish at breakfast was also very tasty. The Room seemed to have been recently renovated and was very convenient with plenty of power outlets. It is in a great location for enjoying visits to the public baths in the area. While the indoor bath had an old-fashioned design, it had its charm. However, extremely hot steam rising from the drain in the washing area made it feel dangerous and almost caused burns.

    The bath and Room are clean and well-maintained.

    Relax in a room with a view of Asagama. The meals may vary depending on personal taste, but the dessert at dinner and the peach compote in the morning were exceptional. Sitting on a chair, resting my elbows on the window frame while gazing at Asagama, I noticed how clean and well-maintained the window sills were. The Onsen bath tiles sparkled beautifully from the mineral-rich water. Sumiyoshiya is impeccably cleaned and carefully maintained with great attention to detail. As I had a slightly larger car, I truly appreciated their guidance when departing—many thanks!

    Accommodation you'll want to visit again

    Stayed during the green season. The Onsen, meals, and room were all very satisfying. The private Onsen was especially wonderful. I would love to visit again during the ski season.

    The service and the room are excellent, but the bath could be a little better.

    Since there was no availability for the plan with dinner and breakfast included, we had to use the No Meals Included Plan, so we couldn't fully enjoy the Ryokan. However, the interior and the room were very splendid, and the service from the staff was excellent, which made us very satisfied. The distance from the front desk to the annex room was unexpectedly far, and the hallway was very cold, so if the hallway could be warmed, it would feel more comfortable. Honestly, I wished there was an open-air bath.

    The food is delicious.

    The local cuisine made with fresh local ingredients was delicious. The bath was hot, but I think it's because they value the natural hot spring flow. They kindly explained about the delicious soba restaurants and the tour of the public baths, for which I was very grateful.

    For the first time in five years,

    It was a long-awaited visit to Sumiyoshiya, and the taste remained unchanged. I enjoyed the view of Asagama from the room, soaked in the Onsen unique to Nozawa, and savored the Torimawashi bowl and autumn flavors. I would like to visit again during the snowy scenery.

    A relaxing inn

    I stayed for two nights with my parents, who love hot spring tours. The room and facilities were well-cleaned, and the water areas were renovated, giving a sense of cleanliness. The highlight was the meal, with simple ingredients beautifully seasoned and presented like a painting. We were able to try all eight types of small dishes, and the stir-fried wood ear mushrooms were particularly delicious. We even got the recipe and bought wood ear mushrooms from the previous shop to take home. The meals were served in a private room right next to ours, allowing us to enjoy them leisurely without any worries, which was very nice. The server was also very hospitable, and my parents enjoyed the meal and were delighted. The paintings displayed in the hallway gallery were also very valuable, creating an atmosphere akin to an art gallery. The spacious library was so luxurious that I wished I could have stayed longer. Upon leaving, the proprietress and the head chef greeted us, and we felt the cozy, homey atmosphere unique to a small inn. I hope it continues to be a wonderful inn in the future.

    Thank you for taking care of us.

    As the name of the village hotel suggests, the hot springs, cuisine, and the autumn scenery of harvest were all wonderful. Manga materials, pottery, Hagi, bell crickets, and memories.

    It was disappointing anyway.

    I had an unpleasant experience that made me not want to come to Nozawa Onsen. My rating is the lowest. The reason is due to the high-handed and outrageous response from the male staff at the reception. When I used the private bath (4000 yen), there were no bath towels, so I called the front desk, and was told with a sigh to go get them from the room. When I tried to shop at the store on my way back, I was told with a frown and a sigh that it was check-in time, and was treated like a nuisance. This happened after I politely said I would come back later, sensing they were busy. I've been traveling for many years, but it was my first time being glared at and sighed at, and I was truly disappointed and surprised. The female staff at Sumiyoshiya provided excellent service, so it was very unfortunate. The food is delicious, the room is good, the hot spring is excellent, and I was thinking of coming again. I politely told another staff member about my discomfort, only to be told "sorry" with a smirk, making me question if this hotel is okay. There was no apology from the problematic staff, and their attitude hadn't changed, so I decided I would never come again. Finally, when I was returning to the nearest station by taxi, the landlady and the problematic staff came to apologize. The problematic staff's face was completely different from when they interacted with me, and they apologized with a changed expression, but it didn't seem like an apology, just an attempt to protect themselves. Even when I gave feedback to another staff member, there was no apology, and they were unfriendly and high-handed, yet only at the last moment did they desperately apologize... I've never had such a terrible experience. My trip to Nozawa Onsen became a terrible memory.
