    We had a wonderful two-day stay.

    From arrival through checkout the next day and all the way until we drove home, we were treated with exceptionally attentive, outstanding service, and truly enjoyed a perfect holiday. The food was simply superb, and the butler’s thoughtfulness and service were also excellent—thank you so much to all the staff. We would love to stay again!

    The food is excellent.

    I’d been looking forward to the food for so long, and arrived full of excitement. The Room has a calm interior that makes you feel like you’re in the forest. You can look out over the river, listen to the stream, and relax in the open-air bath. What was disappointing was that the window crescent lock was covered in dust… Also, it’s nice that the toilet and washbasin are combined, but there’s no lock, so it was a bit unfortunate that someone could open it while it’s in use. Amenities were provided only for women; even if you want to wash your face, men have no facial cleanser, which was inconvenient. The food was something you enjoy with both your mouth and your eyes—absolutely delicious with nothing to complain about. (It was a shame only the bread was cold.) The view of trees behind the open-kitchen-style counter looked like a painting—wonderful. We were seated at a table on a slightly raised platform; it was easy to sit down and move around, but perhaps it wasn’t locked properly because it wobbled throughout and I couldn’t relax while eating. (They noticed they’d forgotten to lock it by dessert.) Breakfast also had a “forest picnic” theme, and we could choose our egg dish, which we enjoyed. With such an open kitchen, I would have liked to change seats between dinner and breakfast—I wanted to experience more of that live kitchen atmosphere. Still, setting aside those minor disappointments, I’d love to come back again just for that amazing food.

    We stayed here for a relaxing Obon holiday. From the warm welcome and guidance to our Room to dinner escort service, the staff were wonderful in every way. The creative French cuisine was not only delicious but also playfully presented with a sense of humor. We will be back again to enjoy the flavors of each season.

    Your First Authentic Auberge Experience

    At my daughter’s request, we visited this authentic auberge for the first time. Lately my appetite has been smaller, so I was hesitant about a full course meal at first, but we decided to go because it also has an Onsen. The creative presentation and delicate seasoning were outstanding, and we finished the nearly three-hour course in no time. The next morning’s meal was just as impressive—an omelet cooked by the chef himself, beautifully presented and wonderfully seasoned. It truly felt like dining with heartfelt hospitality from a remarkable chef. The Onsen was also excellent, and all the staff who welcomed us made our stay very comfortable.

    Worthy of the name “auberge”

    The meals exceeded expectations. Beautifully presented, richly aromatic, and delicately balanced in both flavor and texture—Chef Itoi’s dishes, crafted with Izu ingredients, satisfied on every level. My wife was completely captivated. The Room was simple-modern and kept impeccably clean, and the open-air Onsen allowed us to truly relax while listening to the river and birdsong. It would be even better if there were handrails on the garden steps and by the bath. As you’d expect from reading the Reviews, there are many glowing comments about the cuisine, but what stood out just as much was the exceptionally high quality of the staff. From welcome and farewell to the attentive support of our butler and conversations with each team member, their hospitality was outstanding. Most impressive of all was the morning housekeeping staff: in the garden as we returned to our Room after breakfast, a staff member who caught my eye stopped cleaning and bowed gracefully for a while. Even though we were far enough away that they could easily have assumed we wouldn’t notice, that thoughtful gesture left us feeling warmly at ease throughout our stay. We will gladly return in another season.

    The Ultimate Relaxation Time

    The Room came with a private Onsen, and it felt wonderfully luxurious to soak whenever I wanted, as many times as I liked. Relaxing in the bath while gazing out at the lush forest right in front of me felt like enjoying forest bathing and an Onsen at the same time—truly soothing for both body and mind. Most impressive of all was the dining. Both dinner and breakfast exceeded my expectations. Each dish was so beautifully presented that I couldn’t help but say “Wow!”—like a work of art, a feast for the eyes as well. The pairing with four wines was excellent, and every course made the most of high-quality ingredients, allowing me to savor each plate slowly. In this quiet space surrounded by nature, I was healed by the Onsen, delicious meals, and pleasantly scented amenities, and enjoyed the ultimate time to unwind. This is a truly wonderful Accommodation that I would love to visit again.

    I was extremely satisfied and became such a fan that I’d love to stay again.

    Last time, two days before our stay, I suddenly came down with a fever and sore throat, so we unfortunately had to postpone. I recovered about a month later, and this time we made a new Reservation and were able to visit in good health. First of all, the hospitality was outstanding. The front desk staff who assisted us, the person who explained everything in our Room, and the restaurant team—everyone we met was sincere and professional. Both dinner with pairing and breakfast were creative, delicious, and truly memorable—we enjoyed them so much we lost track of time. The Room was clean and very comfortable. We also loved soaking in the open-air bath on the balcony again and again while listening to the sound of the Kano River and birdsong. My wife and I ended up finishing the Harada Maha novel provided in the Room while relaxing on the balcony and indoors. We make Reservations through IKYU every month, and this stay added another favorite Accommodation that we would love to revisit.

    This was my second s...

    This was my second stay, and I came straight here without stopping anywhere else. The food was excellent. What disappointed me was the Room. Right after entering, the wallpaper on the partition wall was peeling, and it was the same on the opposite side. When I looked up at the ceiling from the bed, it was peeling there too. It was disappointing.

    This was my first stay, and I’ve decided to return.

    This was an Accommodation I’d had my eye on for some time, and it turned out to be even more perfectly aligned with our family than we expected. Quality time in the Room, wonderful meals at the restaurant—simple, yet refined, and truly memorable. Needless to say, the restaurant and cuisine were outstanding. The course conveyed the chef’s playfulness and dedication throughout, supported by a strong team whose efforts could be felt in every detail. We were completely full, yet it never felt heavy—perhaps thanks to the generous use of vegetables. Breakfast was also a delight. I also appreciated that there was no “music” in the restaurant (or perhaps it was so quiet you couldn’t hear it), which made it easy to focus on the food. The service, Room, and bath were all high quality. The amenity selection suited us well. I usually avoid strongly scented body lotion before meals, but this one had a natural fragrance and posed no issue at all even before dining. There were colored pencils in the Room set up for watercolor painting, and our younger son spent ages drawing out on the terrace. It’s not something we can easily do in our busy everyday life. A new butler who had only been with the company for one month handled our check-in; their warm hospitality left a great impression. I rated this 4 with high expectations for further growth (especially in Japanese language usage). I was truly moved that the chef came all the way out to see us off at the road. We will definitely return.

    A Blissful Culinary Experience

    As a bit of a hotel enthusiast, I’ve stayed at many Hotels, including five-star properties in Japan and abroad, and this may honestly be the best. Everything was wonderful, and I will definitely return in a different season! Because children are not allowed to stay, it wasn’t easy for me to visit, and before I knew it 10 years had passed. But I felt that perhaps now—more than I would have back then—I can truly appreciate how extraordinary the stay experience at this Accommodation is. It felt as if I were inside a story. The cuisine, in particular, is beyond words…! The sheer professional excellence that makes you want to come back just to eat those dishes again is so powerful that, as someone who also works for a living, I can’t help but feel a little jealous. I’m happy to have found such a wonderful Accommodation—one that makes me want not only to return myself, but also to bring someone truly important to me.

    True to the rumors...

    This was my first visit to an auberge I’d been wanting to try for a long time. It lived up to its reputation—if anything, it slightly exceeded my expectations. We chose the River Terrace Suite Room, and everything was flawless: the space, Facility, and amenities. We also thoroughly enjoyed the bath along with the view. The dining was equally impressive, with beautifully presented dishes. As someone who loves drinks, I paid close attention to the pairing menu, and the pairings—including sake—were outstanding. The additional bottarga pasta was exquisite as well. Breakfast was also visually delightful, and I appreciated being able to choose both the cooking style and sauce for the egg dish. The service was perfect too. I’d love to return again in a different season!

    I first visited last year and was truly impressed, so I returned to try the cuisine in the next season. The result was a meal that exceeded my expectations—I was completely satisfied. Now I’m already tempted to come back again, which is a pleasant problem to have. As this was my second visit, I was also looking forward to possibly seeing the person who kindly took care of me last time, but unfortunately we didn’t get to meet. To the butler who looked after me so well this time, and to the wonderful female restaurant staff member whose attentive care in every detail stood out—if I have the chance to visit again and see you, I would love to thank you in person. However, as we may not be able to meet again, please allow me to express my sincere gratitude here. Thank you for making my stay so comfortable.     This place was definitely the right choice.

    My spouse and I used to visit here for each other’s birthdays, but last year we strayed and stayed elsewhere. This was our first stay in about a year. Needless to say, the purpose was Chef Itoi’s cuisine. Delicate, beautiful, and delicious—both in presentation and flavor. We ended up enjoying five wine pairings as well. An auberge that never disappoints! Everything was delicious again today!! While the main dishes such as the meat are excellent (of course), I especially think the cooking and seasoning of the vegetables are outstanding. The creativity and beauty of the plating too. We couldn’t help ordering à la carte items and cheese as well, so we were completely full—but we just can’t stop. I’m simply a big fan of the chef. Please take good care of yourself, and I hope you will continue to serve beautiful, delicious dishes for many years to come. Thank you again for this visit. It was a wonderful meal.

    Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

    The food was wonderful both at dinner and breakfast! For dinner, the Amagi gamecock and burdock dish was excellent, and for breakfast, the homemade ham was delicious. The dining space was lovely as well! Above all, I was truly impressed by the butler’s service. When we went to eat with our AI pet from the Room, we found a bowl of water placed next to it when we returned. Moments like this become cherished travel memories and warm the heart. I didn’t get to see you on departure and couldn’t thank you in person, so I’d like to express my gratitude here. I would love to visit again.

    First Auberge Experience

    This year, I traveled a lot and stayed at many accommodations. For the final trip of the year, I wanted to stay at a memorable and wonderful place, so I chose Arcana Iz. Unlike my usual style, this was my first time staying at an auberge. Excited about what to expect, I found the room and onsen satisfying; however, compared to other accommodations I've stayed in before, there are still better ones out there. That said, the meals were in the French category—something I rarely eat—and both their presentation and taste were unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. Honestly surprised by how amazing they were, I thoroughly enjoyed anticipating what would come next with every dish served. It was truly a delightful experience! This was my first time feeling this way about dining; even breakfast was delicious and enjoyable. The meals here are undoubtedly the best I've ever had! I genuinely wish to return during another season to enjoy their cuisine again. On our way back home after a long time away from traveling together as a couple, my wife and I excitedly talked about wanting to visit again soon. Thank you for making it such a memorable journey for us at Arcana Iz. While there are some minor areas that could be improved upon overall satisfaction combined with exceptional dining makes this place rank third among all stays earning it an overall rating score of five stars personally

    A truly special accommodation for a unique experience

    It had been a while since my last visit, but the food seems to be getting even better. The tapas presentation remains as stunning as ever, and I found myself excited throughout the meal, wondering what surprises were in store. Guests at nearby tables were also expressing their delight, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. This restaurant truly exudes happiness. From the welcome sweets to breakfast the next morning, the dining experience here is unparalleled by any other Hotel. There’s always a unique sense of wonder that can only be experienced at Arcana Izumiya. I stayed in The Suite, and while its interior now feels simple compared to today’s luxurious Hotels, it has a charming mountain lodge vibe that I personally love—it’s very relaxing. The wooden flooring was polished beautifully as well. The open-air bath was spacious with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source at just the right temperature (adjustable with cold water if needed). Soaking in this bath while surrounded by refreshing views of the mountain stream allowed me to fully enjoy nature's beauty.

    It truly is a wonderful place.

    I have visited several times over a long period, and I am glad to see that it remains as wonderful as ever. I was concerned that some of my favorite aspects might have changed due to recent unavoidable circumstances, but nothing has changed, which made me very happy.

    It was an absolutely wonderful auberge.

    The weather was perfect, and I had a relaxing stay. The dinner and breakfast prepared by Chef Itoi right in front of us were beautifully presented and tasted as expected (the additional menu of sweetfish paired with wine was exceptional). The open-air bath under the starry sky and the time spent listening to music were truly unforgettable experiences. The staff provided excellent service, which explains why it’s so popular and reservations are hard to secure. I look forward to visiting again in a different season!

    Invited by a friend's couple, I visited in the second week of September as I had been curious about this place for some time. As someone who rarely eats French cuisine, I realized coming to an auberge might have been a mistake. The room is standard for a hotel of this class. Upon entering the room, the sunlight was too strong to open the curtains, and naturally, I couldn't use the open-air bath. With no shared spaces like large baths or lounges available, staying in a room with closed curtains was my only option. The restaurant offers either counter seats or two-person tables at the back near the aisle. There are no partitions between tables, so conversations from neighboring guests can be heard clearly, and it’s distracting with many staff moving around frequently. From its system and setup, this hotel seems designed for couples; however, there is zero sense of privacy here. The grand welcome by numerous staff members upon arrival, prolonged presence of butlers in my space, and constant movement of employees in the restaurant—all were contrary to my preferences. I prefer accommodations where other guests' presence and staff interactions are minimal yet considerate when necessary. I overheard another guest mentioning how much they loved this place's cuisine and had already made their next reservation—so perhaps their food truly stands out as something special here.

    This was my first visit during the peak of summer in two years. The cuisine masterfully incorporated bold spices and refreshing citrus flavors, utilizing local ingredients to delight both the palate and the eyes. The wine pairing was excellent as well. The butlers were friendly, kind, and left a great impression with their smiles. However, I found the pajamas too thick for summer, which made it uncomfortable to sleep; having a summer option would have been appreciated—this is why I rated amenities 4 out of 5. I look forward to visiting this Hotel again. It was truly relaxing—thank you!

    A return visit with mixed feelings.

    Second stay after about 10 years. Previously visited as a self-reward during a period of intense caregiving, and this time returned as a self-consolation after completing long-term caregiving. Splurged on reserving the much-desired terrace room. The cuisine was visually appealing and delicious, perfectly paired with wine. The private onsen in the room had a soft water quality that was pleasant but required adding cold water due to its intense heat. Fishermen occasionally appeared by the riverside below, so women should be cautious when bathing. There was no shuttle service, so I requested taxi arrangements (approximately 5,000 yen one way) at the time of reservation to reach the hotel. Upon being shown to my room, I noticed heavy rain pouring onto the open-air bath on the terrace. When I asked a male butler about rain protection for bathing, he mentioned that a roof could be installed over the open-air bath. Both days of my stay were forecasted for heavy rain. While it was disappointing that no consideration for rainfall seemed to have been made during room preparation, I requested rain protection installation from the butler. Another staff member brought tools for installation but left them in the room without setting up anything before leaving. After completing check-in procedures while concerned about heavy rain falling into the open-air bath and engaging in an hour-long conversation with an experienced butler filled with interesting topics—though enjoyable—the continuous sound of raindrops hitting hot water remained distracting until I prompted again for installing rain protection over it. Although reassured with comments like "the onsen might have cooled down due to rainfall," concerns regarding cleanliness arose considering recent PM2.5 warnings issued days prior; harmful substances may mix into raindrops under such conditions—a point worth reflecting upon further perhaps?     Very good, but the bed is very disappointing.

    The meals were crafted with great attention to detail, and the ambiance of the space was truly wonderful. The room was spacious, equipped with an open-air bath, and offered a liberating view from the balcony along with the soothing sound of a flowing river. Upon returning to the room after dinner, relaxing music was playing, the lighting had been adjusted to create a calm atmosphere, and even herbal tea for relaxation was thoughtfully prepared. The meticulous service left me very satisfied. However, one major disappointment was the comfort of the bed. Among all accommodations I have stayed at so far, this mattress stood out as excessively firm—almost like sleeping on a rug placed over hardwood flooring. Although it was mentioned that Simmons mattresses were used, they felt extremely hard due to thin coils and lacked cushioning underneath. Additionally, the pillows sank too much under weight, resulting in overall body discomfort and shallow sleep. Given how exceptional everything else—the space itself, meals, and service—was during my stay here, it is unfortunate that only the bed fell short. If improvements are made in this crucial aspect of "sleep," which greatly impacts overall satisfaction during a stay at an accommodation like this one—I would definitely consider returning again!

    Arcana Izu offers the best hotel experience I've ever had, surpassing even Aman Tokyo and Four Seasons Hotel. We will definitely return again and again in different seasons. Thank you to all the staff and chefs. We truly enjoyed our stay.
