    Good value

The staff provided attentive service, and we had a very comfortable stay. The restaurant has semi-private seating, which allowed us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace without worrying about others. The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied. Our Room was in a separate annex, with privacy well maintained, so we could truly unwind. This is a wonderful Accommodation where we would love to stay again if we have the chance to visit Kurashiki.

A long-established Ryokan in Kurashiki’s Bikan Historical Quarter.

A historic Accommodation in the Bikan Historical Quarter. A wonderful Accommodation thoughtfully renovated to make the most of its charming traditional architecture. The Room was clean and the food was good. There were many international guests, so it was a bit noisy at times, but the proprietress responded courteously and attentively, which left a very positive impression. If I visit Kurashiki again, I would like to stay here again.

It was quiet and we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. I’d love to visit again if I have the chance. The fresh flowers arranged throughout the property little by little were a lovely touch.

Experience the feeling of living in the Bikan Historical Quarter.

The meals may need improvement. For the price, it didn’t feel like good value. The atmosphere was perfect.

    Delicious Meals

The meals were outstanding. Featuring local Okayama ingredients, everything looked beautiful and tasted amazing. The Room was originally a storehouse, so it can feel a bit enclosed, but it is spacious enough and comfortable. You can make a Reservation for meals and the bath after you arrive, so there’s no waiting. The location also makes it easy to step out for a short walk during your free time, which was great.

    A Great Accommodation

Everyone was very kind again this time. It was also refreshing to see the staff who have come from overseas to work here taking their roles so seriously. Flowers were arranged at the Room entrance and in the washroom, which really lifted my spirits. The underfloor heating throughout (including the bathroom washing area) was extremely comfortable. We stayed in the Pine Room, and as is often the case with renovated old houses or storehouses, the windows are small and you can’t really see outside at eye level, so some people may feel a bit closed in. However, unlike NIPPONIA, there is a TV, so it was fine. As for the meals—one of the joys of traveling— the dashi was very delicious. That said, compared with last time, items like the ingredients in the soup course were clearly more modest, which made me resent today’s rising prices. I chose rice porridge for breakfast, but I was handed just a light single bowl of porridge with no mention of refills, and since I was seated facing the window, I didn’t notice the small pot behind me… I think it would have been better if someone had mentioned it briefly. Even so, this is certainly a good Accommodation.

    The meals are incredibly delicious!

Located in the heart of the Bikan District, the location is excellent. The food was incredibly delicious, especially the rice and broth! The amenities included cosmetics made from Japanese sake, which were amazing—I’m considering purchasing them for personal use. It would have been perfect if the guest room bath had been an Onsen, but strangely enough, the water felt silky smooth. The underfloor heating also made for a very comfortable stay!

    It was very cold.

I was looking forward to staying at this historic Ryokan. However, my impression was that there were too few staff members, and the front desk area always seemed empty. I had to ring a bell to get assistance, which was inconvenient. Additionally, the entrance area had no heating and was extremely cold. Since you have to pass through this area when going for meals or using the private bath, it felt like you needed a coat just to move around. Even if there's no air conditioning, I wish they would at least provide a heater or stove. The dining area was also very cold; I shivered while eating. Although they lent me a lap blanket, I honestly considered wearing my coat during the meal. The private bath's water temperature setting was too low as well, making it too cold for me to enjoy bathing properly. It's been quite some time since I've experienced such coldness at a Ryokan. The Room itself had low ceilings that gave off an authentic historical vibe, which I liked; however, once the futon was laid out, it felt very cramped inside. There was also an electric kettle placed on the floor—I tripped over its cord twice! One of those times happened after boiling water and could have been dangerous. The tea set being placed directly on the tatami floor instead of on shelves also raised hygiene concerns for me. On a positive note: The New Year's special meal served here tasted delicious! It left such an impression that I'd want to return just for their food again someday—though unfortunately not in winter due to how unbearably cold everything else felt during my stay here!

    Healing Accommodation

All the staff involved in the accommodation were kind and attentive, allowing us to have a very comfortable stay. Thank you so much for accommodating our requests with such willingness. The meals were all extremely delicious, beautifully presented, and we ended up eating more than usual for both dinner and breakfast. Although there is no dedicated parking lot for guests and the bath is not an Onsen, the convenient location for sightseeing makes this a truly wonderful accommodation overall. We would love to stay here again.

A Ryokan to Fully Enjoy the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter at Its Best

Enjoy the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter at its best with this perfectly located accommodation. This ryokan itself is a part of the sightseeing experience. While the building has historical charm, the interior has been functionally renovated and is very clean. The exterior retains a traditional Japanese style, but the terrace room in the public space features Western antique-inspired decor, which was delightful. Complimentary drinks and tea snacks here were also a nice touch! The room was spacious enough to feel luxurious for just two people. The bath made of Koya-maki wood added an extra sense of indulgence! Everything was spotless, making our stay very comfortable. The complimentary beverages in the fridge were another pleasant surprise—especially three types of rich and delicious fruit juices from Okayama Prefecture. The meals were a highlight, featuring locally sourced ingredients from Okayama Prefecture and Seto Inland Sea prepared with care and beautifully presented. Every dish had a gentle flavor that we enjoyed until the last bite. Any leftover seasonal rice cooked in an earthen pot was made into rice balls and delivered to our room—a thoughtful gesture that made for a perfect late-night snack. They even included details like wasabi sheets and pickled plums! During dinner, soft warabi mochi awaited us back in our room—a memorable touch of hospitality. Staying within the Bikan Historical Quarter allows you to enjoy stunning nighttime illuminations or peaceful morning strolls through this beautiful area—an unforgettable experience. The ryokan staff were all friendly, approachable, and happy to share recommendations for exploring Kurashiki. One small suggestion: when leaving for walks around the quarter, there were times when no one was near reception to take care of our room key despite ringing the bell provided at the entrance. A system like having a "key deposit box" might improve convenience for guests heading out. If you're staying in Kurashiki's Bikan Historical Quarter, "Ryokan Kurashiki" is truly unmatched! I look forward to returning during another season to try out different types of rooms next time. Thank you so much!

For a gratitude visit to Izumo Taisha Shrine

Two years ago, I stayed here with my daughter when we visited Izumo Taisha to pray for good relationships. This time, we stopped by on our way to give thanks at Izumo Taisha for being blessed with a good relationship, now with my husband. I really wanted him to experience staying here as well. It seems the place has been renovated since our last visit, but the fundamental concept and atmosphere remained unchanged, which made me happy. From the Room overlooking the Bikan Historical Quarter, you can see Kurashiki River below—a truly uplifting feeling of staying in Kurashiki! (laughs) The meals were delicious as well, and I’m so glad we chose to stay here again. Thank you for a truly satisfying stay!

    Recommended

Located in the heart of the Bikan Historical Quarter, this accommodation boasts a beautiful and serene atmosphere. Your anticipation for a memorable stay will naturally rise. Excellent service, meals, and guest rooms. "Yunoma" The view from the window facing the street offers a glimpse into history, with beams and decor that give you the impression of time travel—highly recommended. (Note: Some beams are low; at 175cm tall, I found myself constantly mindful of keeping my head down while indoors.)

We enjoyed a relaxing "Kurashiki time."

The accommodation room was featured in Junichi Watanabe's "Japanese Inns You Must Stay At Once" and was a lovely room filled with a calm and elegant atmosphere. Combined with Kurashiki's attractions like the Ohara Museum of Art, as well as local cuisine and sake, we enjoyed a delightful yet relaxing day away from everyday life. We look forward to visiting again in another season.

I had a very relaxing stay.

Visited with my grandmother in her 90s. The Room was clean, and the underfloor heating in the guest room ensured my grandmother, who feels cold easily, was comfortable. The male staff member who assisted us and the front desk staff were very kind and accommodating. I will definitely visit again when I go to Kurashiki.

    Date in Kurashiki Sightseeing

I used this property during my visit to Kurashiki. Among the several ryokans in Kurashiki, I chose this one for its not-too-old yet atmospheric charm. Overall, the service and quality of the food were more than sufficient for a date, and I was very satisfied. [About the Facility] The parking lot is in a hard-to-find location and is far from the facility, so when I contacted the ryokan in advance, they came to pick me up by car. The road in front of the ryokan is narrow, and there are many tourists, so I recommend not forcing your car through. It would be even better if there was a map of the parking lot available. I entrusted my car to the ryokan staff, who drove it for me. In the meantime, I completed the check-in process. The facility has a deep entrance, creating a separate space isolated from the tourist area. There is a family bath available, which can be reserved at check-in. The family bath is not an onsen, but you can relax in the hot water. Additionally, drinks such as juice are provided in the changing room, which is a nice service. It seems that the facility is locked at 11 PM, which serves as a curfew. Since I enjoyed dinner and the family bath leisurely, this time setting is a drawback for enjoying Kurashiki at night. It would be nice if there was free access. [About the Food] I was very satisfied with the taste and appearance. Each dish that came out was impressive in both appearance and taste. As seen in other reviews, it takes a little time to serve, so you should allow for about two hours. By the end, I was full due to the passage of time. On the other hand, it can be considered that you can enjoy your meal at a relaxed pace. This was not a dissatisfaction. [About the Room] I used the Matsu room. All rooms have floor heating, so I didn't feel cold at all, even in winter. I was surprised that the room bath, which seemed to be a cypress bath, was glass-walled and fully visible from the washbasin, and the toilet without a door was exposed in the same space, which might divide preferences. However, that is a minor issue, and the room is clean and new, providing a sense of security, different from the old townscape and the atmosphere of the facility. If you are using it for a date or anniversary, you can't go wrong.

    The family bath was nice.

I am very interested in architecture, so the design of the renovated Room was very helpful for my home. I was impressed by the well-thought-out slope that continuously flows in the family bath and warms the feet, making it very comfortable. I think it would be even better if the soft aspects were improved accordingly.

    Beautiful Property in Kurashiki

We visited on a very cold day, but the Room was warm and comfortable. The Property had just been renovated, and it was very clean. To be honest, I was looking forward to staying in an old building, but I was able to enjoy that atmosphere in the main building and entrance area. Since it was a sudden trip and I hurriedly made the Reservation, I didn't fully understand the details, but the local shops and tourist guides in Kurashiki all said, "This is the best Property in Kurashiki." The hospitality and meals were excellent, which made us feel at ease. We were also captivated by the charm of the town of Kurashiki, and we hope to visit again if we have the opportunity.

This is my third stay. No matter how many times I stay, it is a comfortable ryokan. The meals are delicious, the room is comfortable, and the amenities are well-equipped.
