    It was a luxurious Room.

    I planned this trip as a surprise getaway for my friends and chose this Ryokan. We selected the entire-floor Room on the 5th floor, and it was absolutely the right choice. There were three open-air baths in the Room, and it was very spacious—my friends were truly amazed. So much food was served that we couldn’t finish it, and we almost felt bad about it. It was a truly luxurious trip, and we were very satisfied.

    A Japanese Ryokan Accessible for Wheelchair Users

    This was our first stay. As my spouse uses a wheelchair, we chose the “〇久 Suite with Open-Air Bath & Barrier-Free” Room. The Room was spacious, with wood flooring and step-free access throughout. The in-room bath could be reached by wheelchair right up to the tub, and the toilet was reasonably sized as well. It felt thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind. The property was quiet and relaxing. Dinner was high quality. Steaming the abalone ourselves added a nice touch, and the grilled splendid alfonsino was beautifully presented. Although new, our staff member was very capable and took care of us from check-in through departure. What stayed with us most was that they kept waving until we were out of sight at send-off. We hear Shuzenji is especially beautiful during the autumn leaves season, so we would like to visit again then.

    I arrived 30 minutes...

    I arrived 30 minutes early, and I really appreciated you opening up for me, especially since it was raining due to the typhoon. Thank you as well for accommodating my allergies. The property is barrier-free, so I was able to get around easily in a wheelchair. There was also an Onsen in the Room that I could use 24 hours a day, which allowed me to relax and enjoy it at my own pace. All of the staff were kind, and everything was excellent. Thank you very much.

    Overall, I was satis...

    Overall, I was satisfied. The Facility was clean, the staff were kind, and the food was good. If I had to mention one drawback, there were only three washing stations in the bath area, so some guests had to stand and wait. It was also mostly barrier-free, which was excellent; however, there is a step along the route to the toilet and washbasin area, and my elderly mother almost tripped. I hope something can be done about that. The service matched the price, but there still seems to be room for improvement—if improvements are made, I think you may gain repeat guests.

    A Relaxing Moms’ Getaway

    From the warm welcome on arrival to the send-off at departure, everything made for a truly pleasant stay. The suite Room was spacious, spotless, and wonderfully relaxing. Dinner offered a wide variety of dishes, all of excellent quality and absolutely delicious. The carefully selected tableware was also beautiful. We were soothed by the private sleeping bath as well. The young lady who looked after us provided outstanding service. Thanks to her, it became the most relaxing trip we could have hoped for. This is a Ryokan we would love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    The bathroom is disappointing.

    It was our first time staying. For a Ryokan, there were quite a few rules that were somewhat difficult to understand, but we assumed it might be due to the current labor shortage. The service was excellent, especially the young male staff member assigned to us who was very professional and made our stay pleasant. Thank you very much. One disappointing aspect was helping my 92-year-old mother with bathing—it was quite challenging and we couldn't manage it. Although it mentioned being barrier-free, wheelchair access to the room's open-air bath, private bath, and public bath was all difficult. We believe this is due to our lack of knowledge and skills in assisting her with bathing. We hope to learn more and try again next time!

    The facility of the ryokan was excellent, and both breakfast and dinner were visually appealing and delicious. I have stayed at ryokans of this class several times, but this accommodation was very satisfying. I would love to stay here again.

    We would have appreciated a photo showing the sofa converted into a bed.

    〇Kyu Suite with Open-Air Bath & Barrier-Free (Japanese-Western Style Room) We visited with my 92-year-old mother and four daughters, a total of five people. Since my mother has back pain and usually uses chairs in her daily life, we chose this room thinking we could enjoy chatting on the sofa. However, as the bedding for more than two people involved converting the sofa into a bed, there was no place to sit after dinner in another room. We requested a room change. It would have been helpful if there were photos or descriptions indicating that the sofa turns into a bed. Additionally, although it was stated that refrigerator drinks were complimentary, there were only four drinks provided despite being a group of five. Many Japanese-Western style rooms in hotels have tatami areas aside from beds; this was one of the few rooms we found meeting our needs, so it was disappointing.

    I recently stayed in...

    I recently stayed in the Premium Suite during the three-day weekend. The accommodation had three baths, each with unique features and great views, which were very relaxing. Regarding the room, one minor inconvenience was the lack of an outlet in the bathroom, making it slightly difficult to use devices like a hair iron. However, the massage chair was truly excellent. As for meals, a whole simmered sea bream was served for dinner, but it was somewhat difficult to eat. Sharing one fish between two people also felt inconvenient. Additionally, it might be better if staff placed dishes more gently; even my child mentioned that they wished plates were set down more quietly. On a positive note, the dried alfonsino served at breakfast was absolutely delicious. I would love to stay again!

    Memorable Trip

    We stayed as a family of four, including my husband who is recovering from an illness and uses a wheelchair, and our two sons. We chose a barrier-free Room due to the wheelchair accessibility. While the facility was generally barrier-free and convenient, it was quite challenging for my husband, who has no mobility in his legs, to use both the private bath and the Room's bath. I had assumed that the bath shown in the Room description would be available, but upon seeing it after being guided to our Room, it turned out to be a round ceramic tub with a lid. I was worried about whether he could use it; however, with help from our sons, he managed. It would have been nice if there were more options for selecting different types of Rooms. I also wanted my husband to rest on a large comfortable bed in the main bedroom; however, his wheelchair couldn't fit between the beds there, so he ended up using an extra bed instead—this was disappointing. As for meals, we felt that both breakfast and dinner portions were slightly small—perhaps because we have several men in our family—and they didn’t feel sufficient overall. Regarding the Room's bath area: adding something like bamboo blinds or other coverings on windows could provide privacy while allowing them to be opened without worry about visibility from outside. Despite these concerns though—my husband enjoyed three baths (private bath & Room’s bath), which made him happy—and that’s what mattered most! I hope these comments can serve as helpful feedback moving forward!

    It was a comfortable stay.

    As with the previous visit, we enjoyed a relaxing time with Onsen and meals. This time, we even got to enjoy fireflies, an unexpected event... Thank you always for your thoughtful hospitality.

    Security guard?

    When I tried to go to the large public bath at night, a man who seemed to be a security guard was there. However, without any greeting, he silently went towards the women's bath and opened the door for what appeared to be an inspection. There was no one else around, and it felt scary. I went back to the front desk and took a quick look, but I couldn't see any staff members present. Judging by his workwear-like outfit, I assume he was a security guard, but it was very unsettling. My family who came with me also said it felt eerie. If there had been a polite greeting, my impression would have been different. Additionally, from the beginning, amenities were missing in the Room. When I called about this issue, it seemed that the foreign staff member could not understand Japanese well and brought something different to our Room instead. In the end, we had to call again and speak with Japanese staff for resolution. I hope these issues can be improved upon.

    It was a family trip!

    This was my first visit to Shuzenji, even though I live in the same prefecture. I usually look for accommodations near the sea, but this time I chose a quiet place with a view of the mountains. I was worried because I have small children, but we were able to relax and enjoy the private bath—it was perfect. The room was also clean and comfortable. However, perhaps due to the season, there were insects in the open-air bath attached to our room, so my daughter and I didn’t use it, which was unfortunate. The food was delicious and paired well with drinks. The staff were kind and attentive. Thank you for taking care of us!

    I would definitely like to stay again!

    The atmosphere of the facility and the staff's kind hospitality were wonderful. The meals had a light seasoning, allowing us to enjoy the natural flavors of the ingredients. The Onsen was at a comfortable temperature, and the reclining bath provided great relaxation. The Room bath was an open-air bath, and even though it was just a one-night stay, we felt very relaxed. We are already talking about visiting again in a different season to enjoy another experience. Thank you for providing such a lovely stay!

    It was a nice Property.

    The Property was clean, and the Room, being a suite, was more than spacious enough. The meals were satisfying. Perhaps because it was a weekday, it was calm and allowed for a relaxing stay.

    In Search of Autumn Leaves

    I visited Shuzenji for the first time in decades in search of autumn leaves. I was a little surprised to see how the shops around Shuzenji had changed. Among the renovated hotels, I stayed at Maru○ Ryokan. However, regarding the bath, the indoor bath was small, there was no open-air bath, and there were only three washing areas, so I couldn't fully enjoy the Onsen. The meal was kaiseki cuisine, but it was not very satisfying. I arrived before 15:00, but I was surprised that I couldn't enter the hotel. I thought the staff's response was good.

    Trip with Grandmother and Three Grandchildren

    I was looking for a place nearby where four people could stay in one room and the entire facility was barrier-free, but I couldn't find one easily. When I expanded the search area, this Ryokan came up. I was hesitant to make a reservation because it takes time and distance to travel from Tokyo without a car, but the result was very good, and I would like to visit again. Everything was flat, and we could move smoothly inside the facility. My grandmother could relax in the barrier-free room, and there was an Onsen in the room, which she happily used many times. The food was delicious, and she looked very happy. However, the Wi-Fi in our room was weak, which was a bit disappointing! The handmade manju was also very delicious, and I ate it as soon as I got home. I would recommend this Ryokan to families with wheelchair users.

    Well, it's average.

    I made a reservation on the day of stay. The first night, I stayed at Futari to Wani En near Dogashima. Unexpectedly, I stayed another night in Shuzenji. When I checked in, I was asked about drinks for dinner, so I made a request, but when it was time to eat, they were not prepared, and I had to remind them and wait for a few minutes. I would appreciate it if they could be prepared in advance. Another concern was the staff's breath odor. Please be mindful of this as it is a service industry! Due to these points, I have given a critical review.

    Thank you for taking care of us.

    After the first anniversary memorial service for my father, our family, including my one-year-old grandchild, stayed at the accommodation. We enjoyed the hot spring with a half-open-air bath in our room, which was a natural hot spring flowing directly from the source. The meals were Japanese-style, which suited our family's taste, and we enjoyed them very much. The crispy fried Amago fish bones were unexpectedly delicious. There were many dishes, and my grandchild was biting into the corn. The dried fish for breakfast was also very delicious, and we had souvenirs sent to us on our way home. Thank you for providing children's yukata, toothbrushes, and towels. The only disappointment was that the bath on the first floor was a bit small, and it would have been nice to have two relaxing chairs in front of the sauna. The room was a combination of a bedroom and a Japanese-style room, but I think it would have been more comfortable to sleep if there had been a door at the entrance of the bedroom.
