    Why not stay with us at least once?

    An Accommodation nestled in the Kasugayama Primeval Forest, about a 10-minute walk from Kasuga Taisha Shrine. This is an even older Accommodation than Nara Hotel, originally established as a venue to host the Governor of Nara Prefecture. I had a wonderful stay at this Accommodation. The building shows its age, but everything—from the floors to the private hinoki bath—was beautifully polished, whether waxed or wiped with rice bran, and it felt spotless and very pleasant. You can really see the steady care and effort of the staff. The highlight is the food. Every dish had an elegant, gentle flavor, and the pacing was calm and unhurried. The simmered dishes in particular were outstanding—I was truly impressed by their depth of flavor. We often hear about Kyoto kaiseki; perhaps this could be called Nara kaiseki. All staff members were attentive without being intrusive, thoughtful about small details, and consistently pleasant. Their teamwork also seemed excellent. A deer even greeted us near the entrance. If you don’t require full barrier-free access or a Room that looks brand-new above all else, this is an Accommodation I highly recommend.

    Thank you very much.

    The greenery from the Room was beautiful. On the way to Kasuga Taisha Shrine, seeing the river and small waterfalls was refreshing. The meals were just the right portion, and we enjoyed them along with the tableware. The bath temperature was perfect, and the scent of wood was soothing. Thanks to the thoughtful staff, we had a wonderful stay. We think it would be even more lovely during the autumn foliage season. Thank you very much.

    It was a quiet and lovely Accommodation. The food was delicious as well. In the morning, a deer appeared in the garden visible from the window.

    It was the best accommodation!!

    We stayed at “Sakura.” The Room was very spacious and spotless! The Accommodation is surrounded by trees, and the view from the window was beautiful and truly relaxing. The meals were delicious, and we were very satisfied—the decorative cuts of the ingredients and the stylish tableware made everything look adorable as well. We could enjoy our meal calmly with in-room dining. All staff kindly helped us with everything, including welcoming us, adjusting the meal content (for pregnancy), and lending us a steam iron. Their warm, gentle hospitality really stood out. The bath was a large hinoki-wood bath, and amenities such as shampoo and lotion were Aesop with a wonderful fragrance. It’s also close to sightseeing spots like Kasuga Taisha Shrine and Nara Park, so we highly recommend it if you’re visiting Nara! We made unforgettable memories. We’ll be back as a family of three after our baby is born!

    A Japanese Spirit Nestled in Nara’s Okuyama

    We stayed over a weekend with our family of four, including our adult children. We stayed in the Bamboo Room, and our meals were served in the Great Hall. The Room was comfortable, and in the morning we could see deer from the Room, and we could also hear Japanese bush warblers singing. Both dinner and breakfast were delicate, beautifully presented Japanese cuisine and absolutely delicious—we kept saying how good it was as a family. Even after check-out, you kindly allowed us to park our car, so we were able to walk to Mt. Wakakusa, Nigatsu-do Hall, and Kasuga Taisha Shrine and fully enjoy Nara. We would love to visit again.

    An exceptionally comfortable and wonderful accommodation

    I arrived with high expectations, but it turned out to be an outstanding stay that far exceeded them. The Accommodation is based on traditional Japanese architecture, but the Room has been renovated, so you can spend your time comfortably without any inconvenience. By chance, my stay coincided with the Nara Park fireworks, and they kindly provided transportation to and from the park, allowing me to enjoy both the fireworks and the illumination event. Each dish was carefully prepared, and since meals are served in your Room, you can relax and enjoy them at your own pace. Drinks in the Room and lounge are basically complimentary, and I was especially grateful that they brought additional water when I ran out. All of the staff were gentle and polite yet friendly, which made it easy to relax and fully enjoy my time here. I definitely want to visit again. (I rated the bath 4 stars not because I had any complaints—if I had to mention something, it would be that the drain stopper seemed slightly broken. That said, it was a wonderful hinoki-scented bath, so I still enjoyed it.)

    It was my first time, but I had a relaxing stay!

    Thank you for the hospitality; it was a comfortable stay. However, as a modern individual, I found it difficult to pass the time without TV or audio music. I would appreciate the availability of TV and radio. The in-room dining reminded me of traditional hospitality, which was nostalgic and delightful. The new Room was clean and refreshing. Thank you to all the staff members!

    It was a great trip.

    Despite the busy season, the relaxing hospitality allowed me to forget daily life and unwind. It was unfortunate that the bath in the room cooled down quickly and did not warm up easily even after adding hot water. I was impressed by the creative dishes and delightful tableware, making this accommodation a place I want to visit in every season.

    I enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing time.

    The accommodation provided a peaceful space, allowing me to relax both physically and mentally after a hectic schedule before check-in. The staff were kind, the food was delicious, and the room had a spacious bath that I could use freely. Since the room was renovated in 2024, it was clean, and I didn’t notice any insects that I had been concerned about based on prior reviews. Located within the primeval forest of Kasugayama, you may feel close to nature in both good and challenging ways. Additionally, Kasuga Taisha Shrine is just a 10-minute walk from the accommodation, making it convenient to visit for an early morning prayer before breakfast. Although there was no internet connection (despite free Wi-Fi being available) or TV—offering an environment far removed from daily life—I was very satisfied with my stay at this accommodation. Thank you to all the staff members!

    Simply outstanding.

    I had been curious about this Ryokan for a while. Even when searching on Google Maps, the directions ended before reaching the destination, adding to its mysterious charm deep in the mountains. I stayed here for one night during my visit to the National Treasure Hall at Kasuga Taisha Shrine for an exhibition of traditional armor. The room I stayed in was "Take-no-Ma," which had been renovated last year. Before check-in, I left my car and luggage with them and drove towards Kasuga Taisha Shrine and Mount Wakakusa as guided by their staff over the phone after my GPS stopped working. Upon arrival, all I could hear were insects and birds—absolute tranquility. After enjoying the armor exhibition at the National Treasure Hall, I walked back to the Ryokan under a hot sun. The room assigned to me was like a private cottage with a refreshing scent of new wood—a spacious suite with separate bedroom and living areas. Before dinner, I took a bath as suggested by their staff; it was in an impressive large wooden (Koya-maki) tub that emitted a pleasant woody aroma. Dinner consisted of numerous dishes served over two and a half hours by attentive staff who presented each dish carefully—it was all delicious. Dining amidst silence while listening to birdsong at dusk felt like pure bliss. Due to insect prevention measures, some windows were fixed shut including those on the veranda; though slightly disappointing, it’s understandable given how deep into nature this place is located. The bed was very comfortable, ensuring restful sleep. Filling up the wooden tub took about 30 minutes but soaking again in it during morning felt equally delightful. All staff members provided excellent service throughout my stay—perfect for experiencing something extraordinary away from daily life. Although it was too hot outside during this visit so I stayed indoors mostly—I’d love to return during autumn foliage season someday for leisurely walks through Kasugayama Primeval Forest!

    I stayed at Tsukihitei in Nara. This accommodation, located in the sacred area of Kasuga Taisha's Oku-yama, was enveloped in tranquility and beauty, like a different world. It is a very special place where the history and nature of ancient Nara harmonize perfectly. The room featured traditional Sukiya-style architecture with a charming atmosphere, offering views of the mountains that change with each season through its windows. The sight of the mountains shrouded in morning mist was particularly magical and left a deep impression on me. The meals were kaiseki cuisine made with local ingredients from Nara, showcasing seasonal flavors and meticulous preparation in every dish. I especially enjoyed unique local tastes such as Yamato vegetables and Narazuke pickles. What stood out most was the profound tranquility and mystical ambiance created by its location surrounded by Kasugayama Primeval Forest. It provided an extraordinary experience that cannot be found in urban areas—a true escape from everyday life. The staff offered heartfelt hospitality with subtlety, allowing me to feel the essence of Japan’s traditional "omotenashi" spirit. One point to note is that during my stay over Golden Week, it was difficult to find taxis due to high demand, making transportation slightly inconvenient. I recommend checking transportation options beforehand and planning your travel schedule with ample time during busy periods. Even so, this accommodation offered a rare opportunity to deeply enjoy both nature and culture in historic Nara—a truly valuable experience for those seeking special moments away from daily life. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an extraordinary stay; just keep peak-season traffic conditions in mind when planning your visit!

    I was able to spend my time quietly and leisurely.

    I visited after several years. I relaxed with matcha and Japanese sweets upon arrival, and each dish at dinner and breakfast was very delicious. Thoughtful attention to detail was evident everywhere, the bath was spacious, and I could spend my time in a very quiet and calm manner. I think properties with such an atmosphere are quite rare.

    Stayed for one night with my spouse on New Year's Day.

    Since it is located in the Kasugayama Primeval Forest, I took a taxi from Kintetsu Nara Station, which was hard to come by. The car came to a complete stop around the intersection near Todai-ji Temple and showed no signs of moving. Upon inquiry, I was told it was due to traffic congestion waiting for parking at Kasuga Taisha Shrine. With no other choice, I decided to get off there and walk to the property. After walking uphill for about 20 minutes, I finally arrived and found myself sweating despite it being winter. At such times, I wished there had been a shuttle service from near the parking lot. The property consists of several separate buildings connected by corridors that follow the mountain's terrain. It is quiet and allows you to spend time without ever encountering other guests. To my surprise, while walking along the corridor after reserving a private family bath, there was a deer in the middle of the hallway! It looked at me with an appearance similar to those seen in Nara Park without any fear. The room is Japanese-style with air conditioning and underfloor heating beneath tatami mats for comfortable living; however, be cautious of temperature differences when going to the washroom or toilet as they are not heated. Meals can be enjoyed in an adjacent room without having to walk down long corridors so that you can savor kaiseki cuisine leisurely. The staff were all kind-hearted making this property one where you could relax peacefully.

    Located just a 5-min...

    Located just a 5-minute drive from Kintetsu Nara Station, this is the only Ryokan situated within the vast primeval forest of Kasuga Taisha. It consists of four separate Japanese-style buildings, all detached rooms. I stayed here once a few years ago and was completely taken with it, so much so that I thought there was no other place to stay whenever visiting Nara. However, my wife's knee condition worsened and unfortunately, since there were only Japanese-style rooms available at that time, we had to give up staying there. But recently I learned that they have opened Japanese-Western style rooms and made a reservation. In addition to the unchanged surrounding environment and hospitality from before, the splendid detached building offers room sizes larger than necessary. The bath uses Koya Maki instead of Hinoki wood; this was my first experience with it and I enjoyed its indescribable woody aroma. As for meals, although I have a friend who is a master of Japanese cuisine whose cooking I considered the best, this might surpass even his dishes—it's impeccable. The only concern was the lack of handrails on stairs leading to the entrance and uneven corridors between bedrooms and toilets or Japanese-style rooms which could cause stumbling during night trips to the bathroom for us elderly guests; it would be nice if they could consider making these areas barrier-free. Nevertheless, we are very fond of this place so much that jokingly told staff unless they make it barrier-free we won't come again—but surely next time when visiting Nara we'll definitely want to stay here again!
