An Accommodation where you can relive the charm of traditional Japanese living

All the other guests besides me were international visitors. Many were travelers from Europe rather than Asia, and everyone had a calm, relaxed demeanor, which made my stay very comfortable. The bath was used as a private bath on a time-slot basis. I assumed this system might be in place because there are many international guests, but after trying it, I found it to be a wonderful luxury—allowing me to enjoy quiet, private time at my own pace. The meals were also excellent, making for a highly satisfying stay. This time I stayed in a Room with an irori hearth. It was spacious and full of character—a lovely Room—but perhaps due to the season, I noticed a slight damp, mold-like smell. Even in summer, measures such as lighting the irori for a short time to reduce indoor humidity might make the stay even more comfortable. Overall, it was very cozy Accommodation and one I would like to visit again.

    大阪おっさん

I went there expecting to do nothing, and it was absolutely wonderful.

It took about two hours to travel from Osaka to Takayama, and then we enjoyed a walk before arriving at the Ryokan. The staff member, Mr./Ms. A, was wonderful, and we were able to truly relax. There is nothing around, so it’s perfect if you want to focus on spending quiet time there.

Stepping through autumn leaves in the mountains...

After approximately 40 years, I revisited Takayama City. Seeking the fleeting autumn, I booked accommodation at Wanosato, a place I had long wanted to visit. I enjoyed relaxing in the hot springs and indulging in delightful cuisine that pleased both my eyes and palate. On the way there, I encountered wild deer, and after breakfast, I was able to watch a parent and child Japanese serow grazing along the banks of Miyagawa from my room for a while. The soothing sound of the flowing river was incredibly comforting. I hope to visit Wanosato's accommodation nestled deep in the mountains again someday.

    My Luxury

Enjoy a tranquil bath and delicious meals while escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life. Immerse yourself in the soothing sounds of the river, the rustling trees swayed by occasional breezes, and the abundance of nature. This precious time here feels so luxurious that it makes you sleep almost twice as much as usual. Upon waking, you may feel disheartened knowing it's nearly time to leave. Every visit leaves you wishing for more time to relax and stay longer...

    A whole new world

It snowed the day before, and we were able to enjoy the snowy scenery from the large glass window in the room. Since we stayed in the annex rather than the main building, we wore boots to go to meals and the large public bath. Although I almost fell, it was a fun experience that you can't have in the city. I was attracted to the hearth in the main building and made a reservation at this property, and it turned out to be the hearth experience I had hoped for. The property is located 20 minutes by shuttle service from Takayama Station, nestled in the mountains, and you can't hear any artificial sounds from the surroundings, providing peace for both body and mind. The meals were plentiful and the taste was exceptional, and I am very grateful to the head chef. The sake warmed in a bamboo tube by the hearth was also exceptional. By chance, the guests were mostly foreigners, so I was able to enjoy an exotic atmosphere while still in Japan. Highly recommended.

The meals, onsen, and room were, of course, wonderful, and I was able to spend a relaxing time while feeling the sound of the river flowing. More than that, I thought it was a property that paid attention to detail. The towels in the bath were very fluffy. I enjoyed the sake tasting. At checkout, I received a warm heating pad. I was healed.

    As always

Coming to the Stays and leaving the Stays, my mind is full of work, but this is truly a pleasant Stays. I don't know how many times I've been here, but I'm always allowed to indulge myself and leave the Stays feeling warm and relaxed. Thank you very much.

An inn that feels like you've slipped through time into another world.

It was a wonderful inn that felt like slipping back in time to the Edo period. The nostalgic scent of the room made me excited, wondering if this is what traditional gassho-style houses have always been like, and I was simply amazed by the irori hearth. The sound of the river was pleasant and very soothing. The staff's hospitality was truly excellent, leaving me with a warm feeling. The meals were all gentle on the stomach, and I finished everything with ease. The rice was really delicious. I could even eat the grilled river fish, including the head, crispy and all. I didn't want to leave so much that I wished the checkout time would never come, haha. The stairs in the facility are steep, and the path to the detached rooms is a bit challenging, so it might not be suitable for those with weak legs. It's an inn I would like to visit again.

    A very courteous inn

We stayed as a family. About the ambiance The traditional house nestled quietly by the clear stream and forest, occasionally greeted by the crackling of firewood in the hearth. Entering the clean Japanese-style room with large windows overlooking the clear stream and greenery, I felt I could switch off and relax, finding mental peace just by occasionally gazing at the hearth's fire. About the meals and service The meals, which show a very careful consideration for each guest and ingredient, are not lavish but pair well with sake, offering a harmonious dining experience. We were particularly moved by the freshly cooked rice. Additionally, through casual conversation with the person in charge of meals, they kindly prepared a special offering for my recently deceased grandmother, who loved delicious food. This surprised our entire family, but it allowed us to have a wonderful time reflecting on her memory with a toast. About the bath The bath, heated from a cold spring, offers a unique service where it alternates between a large public bath and a private bath depending on the time, which is possible due to the limited number of guests. There are two large baths, a rock bath and a cypress bath, each with its own characteristics, allowing you to enjoy hot, cold, and lukewarm temperatures. Overall, we were very satisfied with the relaxed and unobtrusive hospitality, and I was impressed by the careful attention to not only the meals but also the setting and service. I hope to enjoy the changing seasons here as one of our regular accommodations in Takayama.

An inn that stays in your heart

We were able to immerse ourselves in the best hospitality and had a wonderful time with our family. The meals in the morning and evening were excellent, and the attentive care of the staff, as well as the conversation with the storyteller grandfather after dinner, made it a memorable inn where we could experience a special and extraordinary time. We will come again.
