    Cherry Blossom Viewing

I think the location is ideal as a base for cherry blossom viewing, but it feels like the Accommodation is relying too much on that advantage and not making enough effort to improve. I understand the Facility is large and even basic repairs must be challenging, but depending on the approach, I believe you could increase occupancy outside of cherry blossom season as well. 1. Dinner service takes an unusually long time. Three other groups besides us were also complaining. One group refused dessert and went back to their Room. The dining hall staff and kitchen staff both mentioned being short-handed, so I think it would be better to introduce a partial buffet format or other measures that can be handled with fewer staff. 2. At breakfast, the rolled omelet (dashimaki tamago) and grilled fish were cold. This leaves a very bad impression, so it would be better to light the grill used at dinner so guests can warm them. This would increase solid-fuel costs and cleaning work, but I think it is better for the Accommodation than leaving guests with a negative impression. More Accommodations are also providing stations where guests can warm fish or nori themselves. 3. Perhaps because table assignments are not clearly set for hall staff, they do not seem to know what has been served to each table. It would be better to assign responsibility by table and install a board outside the kitchen showing each table’s serving status. Even just reducing unnecessary movement and keeping everyone from stopping in place should improve things compared with the current situation. 4. In Saga Prefecture there is an Accommodation called Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel. A property that was close to bankruptcy became able to attract guests after commissioning teamLab to develop experiences using its adjacent garden and Hotel. If Yoshinoyama, Chikurin-in, and local businesses could collaborate with teamLab as well, you could attract many visitors even outside cherry blossom season and contribute to regional revitalization. I think visiting Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel once—together with the local government tourism division, local tourism operators, companies, etc.—would help you visualize what’s possible. Of course teamLab is world-famous and partnering with them would be ideal, but they may not accept every project. In that case, another option is to hire a company in Japan that produces illumination events. If you handle simple maintenance yourselves, I believe costs can also be kept down. Your Accommodation shows attention to detail and has many things worth seeing; I wrote all of this because I hope it will improve together with the Yoshino area as well. I hope this feedback is helpful.

The quality of customer service varied drastically.

I am writing only about the service. At check-in, there were two staff members at the front desk and one was available. I gave my name and said I was checking in, but a male staff member told me to “wait on that sofa, as we are guiding guests in order,” so I waited. It did look busy, but even after no one was at the front desk, no one came to assist me. When I asked a passing staff member whether it was still okay to keep waiting as instructed, a female staff member apologized sincerely and guided me right away. Her manner was very polite, which made me wonder why I had been told to wait in the first place. After entering the Room, when I tried to have tea, the teacup was slightly dirty (which could be washed), but when I emptied the teapot there was leftover tea still inside. When I called about it, the same female staff member came immediately and apologized profusely. She seemed so apologetic that it almost made me feel bad for her—so I couldn’t help thinking this should have been taken care of beforehand. The female staff member who served us at dinner and breakfast was perfect. In particular at breakfast she even showed us around the VIP room we were interested in, which truly impressed us. However, at checkout: I was told that in addition to drinks from dinner there would also be charges for souvenirs. Since we had not purchased any souvenirs, I asked to see an itemized statement. They said they had apparently added another guest’s charges by mistake; after removing those items they processed payment by card. In general, an itemized statement should be shown and confirmed before payment is taken—it is not normal for this to be handled only verbally. Especially since this became a minor dispute where I had to request proof of details first, it should have been presented immediately. Moreover, after payment they handed me only the card slip. Only after I requested it did they give me something like an itemized Receipt as well; normally customers should receive not only the card slip but also an itemized statement—especially when there has been a billing error like this. Because they handled all of this so casually, it felt pointless to continue arguing and I gave up requesting issuance of a Receipt. I am reporting this because there were both excellent aspects of service and aspects that were more than simply disappointing mixed together. I hope improvements will be made.

Experience the charm of Chikurin-in Temple through an overnight stay.

I have visited Mount Yoshino many times because I love it, but I had always dreamed of staying at Chikurin-in. This time, that dream came true, and I am delighted to have spent such a wonderful time. The hostess shared fascinating stories about the history of Chikurin-in, which was very interesting. Being able to leisurely stroll through the historic garden at different times of the day—morning, afternoon, and evening—was truly a privilege for guests. Additionally, this stay included a plan that allowed us to participate in the nighttime viewing and morning service at Kinpusenji Temple, making it an even more special experience. The meals were delicious, the room was comfortable, and the open-air bath was excellent. Thank you for an amazing time!

Best location for viewing Yoshino's cherry blossoms.

The perfect location to enjoy Yoshino's cherry blossoms, housed in a historic and traditional building. However, the large facility raises concerns about whether its maintenance aligns with the income from the ryokan. Despite visiting during peak cherry blossom season, the price feels excessively high considering the facilities and meal quality. Guests can access an attached garden for free; while it is a nice garden, it is unfortunate that maintenance seems lacking.

The accommodation was not worth the price.

The accommodation is in the luxury price range, so I had high expectations, but it was disappointing. - The room had an open-air bath, but it smelled like sewage and made me feel unwell. The odor was so bad that I initially mistook it for sulfur springs and couldn't use it. - The WiFi signal was poor and wouldn't connect. - The sashimi was discolored to the point where I couldn't tell when it had been prepared. - After completing credit card payment at checkout, I was asked to redo the payment without any explanation. At the very least, they should have explained why a redo was necessary. It is high season for Yoshino cherry blossoms, and I assume occupancy rates were high as well. Under such circumstances, I think the staff managed things well overall with no particular complaints about their service. However, based on the price range and photos provided beforehand, this accommodation did not meet my expectations or justify its cost.

    This is the first ti...

This is the first time I’ve had to think so much about writing a review. While there may be various circumstances such as the limited high season, location, securing staff, and maintaining the facility, my satisfaction with the price is reflected in my rating. If the accommodation fee were 15,000 yen, my satisfaction level would be 2 or 3. Having stayed at many accommodations before, I felt it would be disrespectful to their efforts in comparison.

It was during the high season, but...

It is indeed the busiest and most crowded high season, so I understand and was prepared for it... However, I was utterly speechless at the high prices.

    Unfortunately

I stayed knowing the price would be high during cherry blossom season. The open-air bath seemed like an afterthought, not connected to the indoor bath, and it was unbearably cold. The meals lacked creativity and were quite ordinary. However, the garden with its fully bloomed weeping cherry blossoms made the stay worthwhile.

    The meals were disappointing.

The Facility, including the garden and building, was excellent. However, despite paying a considerable amount (over 120,000 yen for two people), the meals were very disappointing. The futon seemed to have mites as both my wife and I felt itchy.

A property with a calm atmosphere where you can learn about the history of Yoshino.

It was a historic property where you could learn about the history of Yoshino, such as En no Gyoja and Kumano sacred mountains. Although it is a property, it is also a temple, so we were able to receive a goshuin stamp. The large garden had many trees such as plum trees, and it is said that Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi also visited and enjoyed his time there. Folding screens that were given as gifts when he visited are also displayed. Many historians have served as the host (actually managed by the proprietress), so books that convey history are also available. In addition to high-quality onsen, there were very kind and gentle staff members who made our stay very peaceful. Thank you very much.

    History is nearby!

The building exudes a sense of good old history, and the hospitality and service were heartfelt. The Shuttle Service to Yoshino Station was very helpful. Above all, the spacious garden was full of negative ions, and the autumn breeze was pleasant. The autumn leaves from the open-air bath were wonderful. Unfortunately, although the meals were professionally crafted with care, most of the dishes, including the tempura, were served cold. I hope they develop unique dishes that focus on local production for local consumption, rather than the typical menu found everywhere. I hope they will make full use of the spacious grounds and rich history to explore new management.

    Do not expect too much.

Passing through the temple gate and entering the old and splendid entrance is satisfying enough. However, as a Ryokan or Hotel, it did not feel particularly special.

Experience the beauty of Mount Yoshino in Nara.

It's truly unfortunate that not many visitors come to Yoshinoyama, despite its beautiful scenery and numerous World Heritage temples and shrines. The inn's staff are kind and create a homely atmosphere that is very soothing. Each dish is prepared with care and is delicious, and I sincerely hope many more guests will come. I thought it was the perfect place to spend three days letting time flow slowly and reflecting on oneself. Let's support and cherish Japan's wonderful traditions.
