The Onsen was wonderful.
We stayed again this year, following our visit last year. While many nearby Ryokan have closed, this property has been renovated and reborn with excellent Facility—I felt it is the best in Yuhama. In particular, the Onsen was pure free-flowing hot spring water from the source, with no added water or heating, and it was wonderfully comfortable—I kept sweating for a while even after bathing. Since our Room had a splendid private free-flowing Onsen bath, we enjoyed it many times. Unfortunately, there was light rain and the sea was rough with whitecaps, so swimming was prohibited. However, we are not really at an age to play in the ocean anymore, so we enjoyed walking around the Hotel area instead. There were about ten cats nearby; they were friendly and fun to be around. They had ear marks indicating they had been spayed/neutered, so it seemed the town manages them well. It left us with a good impression of a town that cares for animals. Meals were different from last year: they served them efficiently with fewer staff in a spacious Room renovated from an annex building. The quality felt slightly below last year’s level, though that may simply be personal preference. It also made us feel how challenging operations can be after COVID. We were happy to have a chance to speak in the morning with refined people who seemed to be the proprietress and her son. We would like to visit KAMEYA again next year as well—a place proud of its 200-year history. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

The meals were well ...
The meals were well seasoned, and the recommended drinks were delicious, so I was very satisfied. However, when I asked for a second serving of rice at breakfast, some parts were hard, which was disappointing. Also, because it was wrapped in paper, it was difficult to take out. I had been looking forward to enjoying Yamagata’s delicious rice at breakfast…

Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the sunset.
During the first half of Golden Week, we drove a rental car from Yamagata and visited KAMEYA for the first time in 41 years, enjoying the contrast between Mt. Chokai and the spring rice paddies along the way. The impressive lobby and gardens were truly grand, and the staff provided attentive, thoughtful service that never hinted at today’s labor shortages—it was very comfortable. The meals were also delicious and full of seasonal flavors. On the other hand, soaking in the Onsen is the greatest pleasure of my trips, but I found it disappointing that I couldn’t fully relax: in our Room bath, the water inlet protruded into the bathtub and was awkward to use, and in the large public bath area, the women’s baths are split into two sections with a men’s bath in between. Not being able to see again the magnificent sunset I still vividly remember from 41 years ago—I accepted that as my own bad luck. A 12:00 checkout is greatly appreciated.

Think of your wife during your trip.
The view of the sea from our Room on the 8th floor was beautiful, especially at sunset. The meals were delicious and suited my preferences. I was also touched that you prepared a meal for my wife as well.

I was thrilled to stay in my dream Room.
We stayed in the special concept Room we had always wanted to book. From the moment we entered, the view was exactly as we imagined, and it was a wonderful space. From check-in through meals, one attendant took care of us throughout, and we were able to spend our time comfortably. The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied with the in-Room bath and the sauna as well. The sake tasting in the storehouse was also a lot of fun. We also appreciated that check-out is 12:00 by default. We were able to relax properly in the morning too. Since the meals change seasonally, we’d like to visit again in a different season. One small point: our car got quite dirty from the sea breeze after just one night, so it would be even better if some measures could be taken to help keep cars from getting too dirty where possible. Thank you very much!

Plan with Abalone and Steak
I stayed for one night at the end of January. The meals were served in my Room and were very delicious. The steak was brought out hot, and everything exceeded my expectations until the very end. The Onsen was also excellent—a chloride spring that warmed me up wonderfully.

Great atmosphere, view, spaciousness, and bath; meals could be better.
Stayed in the concept room "Sagan." The room met expectations with a great view, ample space, and the convenience of taking a bath whenever I wanted. It was excellent. The accommodation felt like a traditional Onsen inn upgraded to modern standards, maintaining its classic Japanese charm while being beautifully renovated. The sauna was also fantastic. While it would have been perfect with a view, the spacious area made up for it as there were only 2-3 other people around, making it feel almost private. However, some aspects were slightly lacking overall. The sauna's system and location were hard to understand due to insufficient explanations. There are three elevators, but not all responded when buttons were pressed; signs for "Ryugu-den" appeared on both the 3rd and 5th floors with slight differences in kanji; large towels were available at the sauna but no small ones; towels for sitting in the sauna were too small and slightly uncomfortable due to heat; tea was provided in the room but no coffee; there was no light switch near the sink—these little details gave an impression of incomplete attention to detail. As for meals, they left much to be desired. Everything felt average at best with hardly anything memorable or delicious. For breakfast especially, having pre-set dishes on tables instead of a buffet was disappointing—it seemed more about hotel efficiency than guest satisfaction since food quality suffered from being cold or less fresh. Additionally, I found it odd that despite serving alcohol at their dining lounge/bar area(?), service ended by 6 PM. A proper bar would have been ideal but perhaps understandable given customer demand. It was also inconvenient that there weren’t instant noodles or simple desserts available at their shop—I had to go out to a nearby convenience store instead which felt like extra hassle since it's rare not to find cup noodles stocked. Overall though, considering value for money (cost-performance), I’d love to return again under No Meals Included conditions!

I had a relaxing time.
A hotel with a stunning ocean view right in front. The interior is very calming, and the sunset is absolutely beautiful. All rooms offer an ocean view. The Onsen was warm and soothing, leaving me feeling cozy. The cuisine was elegantly seasoned and delicious. I would love to visit again for a relaxing stay.

Enjoy a Comfortable Stay at a Historic Ryokan
We enjoyed the sunset and sake tasting. The view from the Room was great, and the morning scenery was amazing. Next time, I would like to bring my family and grandchildren.

Sophisticated Design and Hospitality
I have stayed here several times, and once again, I had a truly wonderful experience. The first-floor lobby is particularly impressive. It features various stylish chairs and a high ceiling, allowing guests to relax while enjoying the atmosphere of this traditional Ryokan. The shop in the lobby feels like a curated boutique with not only items from Yamagata but also chic accessories that were delightful to browse through. They also offer tableware, which can be shipped if needed. The souvenirs available include elegant sweets and beautifully packaged Western-style confections, and the "KAMEYA" logo shopping bag provided at purchase added a touch of luxury. With the beach right in front of the property, I enjoyed watching sunsets and taking early morning walks even without meals included. Above all, the staff's exceptional hospitality made my stay incredibly satisfying. Thank you very much!

Bold Concept Room
Stayed in the concept room "Suikyo." The idea of merging the Sea of Japan outside the window with mirrors was underwhelming. Honestly, the view outside wasn't that impressive, and what stood out more was the poor room layout—especially having a toilet right in front of a door that doesn't lock, which felt overly unconventional. Dinner was delicious (though the sake served by glass was pricey), and I had a good impression of the large public bath. However, the lack of shuttle service from the nearest station is a drawback, so I don't think I'll visit again.

The total payment wa...
The total payment was a little over 120,000 yen, but I feel 90,000 yen would have been more reasonable. Room evaluation was good in terms of size, view, and scenery. The variety of drinks was satisfying; however, the lounge closing at 6 PM felt too early—it should at least stay open until 10 PM. The bedroom did not feel worth the price of 120,000 yen. Both the mattress and duvet were disappointing. The open-air bath was decent but slightly cramped and didn’t fully take advantage of the beautiful view—what a waste! The shampoo and conditioner were terrible; my hair felt rough afterward. From a woman’s perspective, there were no proper amenities provided. The wall-mounted hairdryer is outdated—while I don’t expect something like Repronizer, at least provide Panasonic quality! Why is there only one set of bath towels? As for meals: perhaps around 20,000 yen total for dinner and breakfast? Even assuming that price point, it seems like only about 25% went into food costs. Dinner’s beef (female) was decent enough but breakfast could use an upgrade in quality. Customer service needs improvement overall—the standout exception being the friendly lady at the lounge who had a pleasant demeanor. In conclusion: if you want to charge over 120k yen per stay, you need to pay attention to details and learn from other hotels in today’s market!

The Room has been renovated, and the bath in the Room is satisfying with a continuous flow of water without needing to fill it. The food is not bad. The Room can be cooled with an air conditioner, but the hallway and elevator are uncomfortably hot. It's a pity since the Room is new.

Disappointing...
It felt like it was surviving on its past glory. I chose this accommodation near Kamo Aquarium because the reviews were good and made a reservation. Although it was said to have been renovated a few years ago, there were rusty towel racks, chipped or peeling areas around the bathtub faucet, and a bathroom with only one yellow downlight (making makeup difficult), among other issues... The breakfast was also disappointing. The customer service and hospitality were average—not bad but not outstanding either. The fact that the room had an ocean view and was spacious was nice. However, I wouldn’t stay here again. I can’t figure out why this hotel is so famous.

The ocean view is wonderful.
The Room was not as spacious as I imagined from the photos. There is a counter and chair by the window where you can sit and gaze at the ocean endlessly. Having meals at that counter is wonderful. However, the meals I had high expectations for did not suit my taste very well. Considering Yamagata is known for its delicious rice, I was surprised that the rice wasn't tasty. The drinks also didn’t suit my palate, and surprisingly, the coffee made from the machine on the 1st floor was the best. It’s truly disappointing because of how amazing the women’s hinoki bath and view were. The Room staff were reserved but answered questions politely and shared various information with me, making our conversations enjoyable. I visited some recommended spots they suggested, which turned out to be fantastic. Thank you so much!

The meals are excellent! However, some aspects may not feel top-notch...
The Japanese cuisine was the best I've ever experienced among all the accommodations I've stayed at. However, there were a few points that made me feel it wasn't quite first-class. That said, none of these were disappointing enough to ruin my stay; they were minor issues but left a slightly negative impression when expecting top-tier service. Here are the details: 1) After check-in, we had no problem carrying our own luggage to the room, but it felt insincere when the staff asked us if we needed assistance only after seeing us handle our bags ourselves. It seemed unnecessary to ask in such a manner. 2) The security box in the room was placed at floor level, making it difficult for me (70 years old) to read instructions or set up codes without bending down completely. When I couldn't set up the code properly and encountered an error, staff promptly came to reset it for me, which was appreciated. 3) The razor provided in the amenities kit was of very poor quality—unlike anything I've seen before—and barely worked; shaving with it was painful and incomplete. There weren't any additional razors available in either the room or bath changing area, which made this inconvenient as I wanted to shave twice (on arrival day and morning). 4) While this hotel's sauna facility is one of its highlights, I found that there wasn’t proper protection around the stove inside the sauna room—it lacked even basic wooden fencing typically used for safety purposes. Although accidents are rare, falling near such an exposed stove could result in severe burns and potential liability for management. Despite these criticisms—which stem from high expectations—I didn’t have any unpleasant experiences overall. Positive aspects: 1) The kaiseki dinner was absolutely exquisite—the best Japanese meal we've ever had! (For French cuisine lovers: Hakone Highland Hotel excels there; for Japanese cuisine: here.) 2) In our accommodation plan, using the sauna required an additional fee of 2,x00 yen per person but allowed access on both arrival day and following morning with excellent high temperatures early in the day. Would I revisit? Despite pointing out some negatives—overall yes!

It was excellent.
Stay at Akagane. The room comes with floor heating. The bathroom in the room features an onsen, available anytime. There is no refrigerator in the room. Meals are served on beautiful Royal Copenhagen tableware, featuring local ingredients. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Breakfast is served in a traditional box tray style. The lounge offers free soft drinks. Gassan Beer is also available for purchase at the shop—regrettably, I should have enjoyed it in the room! Overall, the service strikes a perfect balance between attentiveness and privacy, making for a pleasant stay.

Enjoy a warm New Year for both body and mind with our guest room Onsen featuring five natural hot spring sources!
Since it is on the Sea of Japan side, it was impossible to see the sunset in winter, but on New Year's Day, when the sun peeked through, I was able to relax and warm up in the cypress bath, and my chronic neuralgia subsided, allowing me to spend a relaxing New Year. The staff worked hard to provide service, but perhaps some were inexperienced, as there were instances where explanations at the dining venue were insufficient depending on the person, and although it was a Multiple Night Stay, the consideration for ingredients I disliked on the first day was forgotten on the second day? There were also points that made me feel there might be a shortage of staff over the New Year, such as the lack of shower caps in some baths and no tea in the lounge. However, the scale of the Property and the quality of the Onsen were satisfying enough to naturally say, "Let's come again."

Good for sightseeing, but not convenient for business.
Although it was for business purposes, I am not fond of the small rooms in Business Hotels, so I was attracted by the room size and Onsen and stayed for the first time. The room size was as expected, but the interior, with gray walls and tatami mats aside from the furniture, dampened my mood. Additionally, there was no lighting on the desk, making it difficult to work, and the shallow washbasin caused water to splash onto my clothes, which were concerning aspects. The breakfast had a wide variety, but despite using it first thing in the morning, the main grilled fish was cold, and the miso soup contained long-lasting ingredients like dried wheat gluten and seaweed, which was disappointing. Starting at 7:30, it was inconvenient for business as it made me arrive late in Tsuruoka City after finishing.
