I visited Mizuno Ryo...
I visited Mizuno Ryokan because I wanted to see the sea at the end of summer. It’s a historic Ryokan, and the building felt like a maze. The ocean scent and the meals were the main highlights for me. The attendants’ service was also very good. The food was outstanding—squid, abalone, spiny lobster, and sea urchin. The quality and portion sizes were perfect for us, and above all, each soy sauce pairing was excellent. You could really feel the head chef’s care in every dish. I’d love to come again even just for the meals. Checkout was completed in our Room, and when we left the Ryokan, no one saw us off. After we passed through the gate, the proprietress came running after us, but it still felt a little lonely.

Lose track of time in the evening glow
I stayed at Mizuno Ryokan in Karatsu. I watched the sunset, took a leisurely walk along the beach, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The squid was a bit lean—perhaps due to unusual weather—but the tempura served after the live sashimi was beautifully sweet and deeply satisfying. The conger eel soup, in particular, is a dish I’ll remember for a long time. It was a relaxing stay that truly eased my mind.

A Place Filled with Warmth
This was not just a clean Accommodation, but a place that felt like a “second home,” filled with warmth and thoughtfulness. In every corner of the Room, we could feel the host’s care and affection, and throughout our stay we felt comfortable and genuinely welcomed. The meals were also truly outstanding. Each dish was prepared with great care and sincerity—delicious, and an unforgettable taste. We had a truly wonderful time and are sincerely grateful. We would love to visit again.

I was able to relax and take my time.
When it comes to Karatsu, this Accommodation—Mizuno Ryokan—is a classic that we always return to. The samurai residence gate relocated from Nagoya Castle is full of character, and to the right of the gate you’re welcomed by a sign reading “Live Fish Tank & Japanese Cuisine Mizuno,” hinting at the high quality of the cuisine. The ocean-view Rooms overlook Karatsu Bay, a soothing scene that helps you forget everyday bustle. From the second-floor Rooms on the Karatsu Castle side, you can see the castle up close—an ideal photo spot for a memorable travel shot. Above all, there’s no doubt this is a one-of-a-kind long-established Ryokan, offering attentive hospitality and exceptional dishes featuring seasonal fish from the Genkai Sea. While the Facility and equipment are old, everything is kept very clean and well maintained. And because the food is so delicious, we can’t help but come back again and again.

Gourmet Accommodation
A recommended accommodation where you can enjoy live squid sashimi and other fresh, seasonal seafood.

The food is so delicious.
The dinner and breakfast were so delicious that we were truly moved. The fish was fresh, the seasoning was excellent, and my husband and I are already talking about coming back to enjoy Karatsu again. The location—so peaceful it felt like we had the calm sea all to ourselves—was wonderfully relaxing.

We were extremely satisfied!
I stayed here with my child. The Room was comfortable, and we really enjoyed the bath. Although it is a long-established Ryokan with a rich history, the water facilities were very clean, as if they had been renovated. Even on a very cold night, the bedding was warm without using the heater. The meals were as delicious as their reputation, and I would love to come just for the food. I’d like to stay once a year as a special treat.

It was a truly scenic culinary Ryokan.
An amazing beach view, a lovely Room, and a feast of delicious dishes—so satisfying that we didn’t want to leave. Since Yobuko is nearby, we asked about eating squid and received a very thoughtful exchange of messages. On the day, we were served fresh sasa-ika (small squid), sweet and translucent with a wonderful texture, as sashimi—and the tentacles were made into tempura, so we enjoyed it twice. In addition, there were many creative dishes and an abundance of fresh seafood worthy of a fishing town; the number of items was so generous we felt completely full. The staff’s polite, heartfelt hospitality was truly comfortable and made us feel as if we had come home to the countryside. Two local cats were relaxing happily in the parking area and garden; seeing how used to people they were gave us the sense they are loved by everyone around, which left us feeling warm inside. We regret not booking a Multiple Night Stay. For castle lovers, Karatsu Castle is about a 5-minute walk away—an unbeatable location.

Enjoy panoramic views of Karatsu Bay
We stayed for one night on a calm day after the cold wave had passed. The view of Karatsu Bay from our second-floor Room was wonderful, with Takashima—its mesa-like landform—right in front of us. You can clearly see people walking along the beach, which also means they can see you, so you can’t really wander around in an unguarded state (laughs). It made me wish I had brought my watercolor set. Before dawn, when there was hardly anyone around, I opened the blinds and enjoyed the view of Karatsu Bay as day broke from the Room’s hinoki bath. When I opened the window, perhaps because there was no wind, I couldn’t hear either the waves or the sound of wind through the pines—just the faint jingle of a dog’s bell on its morning walk. It was a wonderfully quiet morning. Because of how the bath and toilet are laid out, I was slightly bothered by water splashing toward the toilet side when rinsing off. The meal was described as a lighter course, but there was still plenty of ara and squid. We were also delighted to have kabura-mushi—a winter favorite we thought we wouldn’t get to eat before spring this year. We enjoyed both E-Karatsu and Joseon-style pottery as well. The rice was delicious. An iconic samurai residence gate from the Keicho era, and castle stone walls built from stacked granite leading up to it—this Accommodation let us enjoy a sense of history too.

The sea is right in ...
The sea is right in front, giving a resort-like atmosphere for a relaxing stay. One night felt too short. The meals, centered around fresh fish, were incredibly delicious. The staff at the Ryokan were very kind and hospitable. I would love to visit again during the warmer season!

Highly satisfied!!
This was our first time staying at this accommodation. As expected from the high ratings and positive reviews, everything including the service, hospitality, cuisine, accommodation, and cleanliness was excellent and exceeded our expectations! My son was especially impressed by the Ise lobster and the incredibly fresh squid sashimi. Despite causing inconvenience due to an unexpected urgent matter on our side, we were deeply grateful for your warm response. It truly helped us a lot. Since we often visit Karatsu, we would love to stay here again as a family. This time we stayed in a separate villa which was amazing. Next time, we'd like to try staying in the main building!

The building of Nami...
The building of Namishizuka was beautifully designed and stylish. The functional layout made us say, "We'd love to live in a house like this." Everything was spotless, with not a single fingerprint in sight, making for a very pleasant and comfortable stay. The meals at the main building were absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced, and left us completely satisfied! Although we don't drink much, when we requested beer for a toast and mentioned it was the same as the one in our room during our conversation, the staff kindly offered to replace it with beer from the Diamond Member's room. We were deeply touched by their thoughtful gesture—thank you so much! It was slightly disappointing that there wasn't an Onsen; however, the bath in our Room was still very enjoyable. Thanks to everyone's warm hospitality, this trip became an unforgettable and wonderful memory. We truly appreciate it!

A very comfortable and relaxing accommodation
The Saga beef was delicious, but since it was Karatsu, I wish I could have enjoyed more seafood. Next time, I would like to make a special request for the dishes.

Cuisine
The food was extremely disappointing. The quantity and quality were completely different from the photos online, and the hostess's explanation lacked sincerity, leaving us very disappointed. After traveling 6 hours and paying a high price, it simply wasn't worth it. We are deeply regretful and dissatisfied.

Traditional and Serene Hospitality
A serene accommodation facing the sandy beach of the picturesque and calm Karatsu Bay. While its traditional Japanese design made it slightly less convenient compared to a hotel, the warm hospitality and thoughtful care from the hostess and staff were truly delightful. The unpretentious breakfast menu, with its natural and gentle flavors, was especially appreciated, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The dinner, rich in local seafood flavors, was also delicious.

A Rewarding Trip for Yourself
I traveled alone, but the staff kindly arranged a sightseeing taxi for me, making my tour of Karatsu very enjoyable. The accommodation was charming from the entrance gate, offering a view of Karatsu Castle and creating an amazing atmosphere. From the room, I could see the calm sea, and both dinner and breakfast were delightful as I enjoyed them while admiring the ocean view—truly a feast for both the eyes and palate. Although it was unfortunate that the bath was small, it was interesting to see the fish tank located before entering the bath area. Next time, I plan to visit with my wife. Thank you in advance!

The staff's thoughtfulness was truly comforting.
The building is a registered tangible cultural property, a small former samurai residence located near Karatsu Castle. The garden maintenance could use some improvement. The bath is not an Onsen but a small two-person size, newly renovated, hygienic, and offers a sandy beach view. Meals are served in a separate room; the highlights include live squid sashimi, grilled cutlassfish with salt, medicinal steamed egg custard, and steamed sea bream bones—all exceptionally delicious. Service from check-in to check-out was attentive and top-notch. The hostess even took our photo in front of the entrance. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality!

First-Time Accommodation
This was my first stay at Mizuno Ryokan, and I was deeply impressed by the charming and emotional atmosphere of the accommodation. The room offered a private feel with an entire building to ourselves, and the ocean view from the room was absolutely stunning. The meals were rich in fresh seafood and truly delightful. The staff provided excellent service and gave precise answers to all our inquiries, for which we are very grateful. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

Both the Room and the meals are highly satisfying.
We stayed at "Castle Side Villa Namishizuka" as a couple this time. The room was unexpectedly delightful, in a way that surpassed the traditional image of the long-established Mizuno Ryokan. Being a maisonette-style villa (rented as an entire unit), it offered a private and comfortable space, almost like a model home. Outside the window, you can see Nishinohama Beach right in front of you; opening the window to gaze at the sea and listen to the sound of waves is truly soothing. It’s an oceanfront space with an open and extraordinary atmosphere. All drinks in the room's refrigerator are complimentary. Dinner is served in the charming main building. Passing through Mizuno Gate, which is recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, we approached the entrance where sliding doors quietly opened to welcome us inside by what seemed to be the young proprietress. The dining room was private (I forgot its name) and offered stunning views of the sea from its purely traditional Japanese design—a stark contrast to Villa's modern style but equally captivating. By this point, we were already deeply impressed and satisfied; our expectations for dinner were high but still exceeded by every dish served. Beautifully presented on exquisite Karatsu ware plates, each dish was delicious beyond words. The hospitality from everyone—the proprietress, young proprietress, and staff—was exceptional. It wasn’t about luxury or extravagance but rather heartfelt service that left us feeling truly cared for. Thank you very much for such an unforgettable experience! We would love to visit again soon!

A whole building rental like a model room of a historic Ryokan
A wonderful building with the sea spreading out in front of you. We were able to spend our time leisurely as if we were living there. Meals were enjoyed at Kanfutei, which is recognized as a nationally designated registered tangible cultural property. We had beautifully prepared dishes such as Ise lobster, squid, and Kue sashimi, all served on Karatsu ware. The bath was not an Onsen, so I deducted points, but it had a jet bath function like those seen in model rooms. The proprietress and all the staff provided pleasant service. It was too spacious for just the two of us, so next time I would like to come with my daughter, her husband, and my grandchildren.

The Ryokan with a great location
The room faces the beach and offers a wonderful view, and you can also see Karatsu Castle from the dining room, which added to the travel experience. The Ryokan is old, but it is well-cleaned, allowing for a pleasant stay. There is a large window facing the sea, which is kept clean, allowing for a pleasant view of the scenery (I think it must be difficult to keep the windows facing the sea clean as they tend to get very dirty). The meal was the "Seafood Delight Plan," featuring fresh seafood dishes that made the most of the ingredients, and it was delicious. However, what concerned me was the staff's response; while it could be described as friendly, there were a few instances where it felt a bit careless. It seemed that proper training in customer service etiquette and manners was lacking. This was a slightly disappointing point.
