    It’s close, but it falls short in several ways.

    I stayed for one night during the August high season. This is purely my personal opinion, for reference only. [Price] Even considering the season, it was priced quite high. [Service] The front desk staff and attendants were all very friendly, which left a good impression. [Room] The Room with a private Onsen felt dated, but it was well cleaned. [Onsen] For water quality alone, it’s a solid 5 stars. It’s also a plus that you can enjoy multiple large public baths, including those at affiliated Ryokan. However, there were many dead insects floating in the open-air bath, which put me off from using it. The open-air bath attached to the Room was extremely hot, and perhaps due to the lighting, mosquitoes and hornets gathered around it, so I could hardly use it—disappointing. [Meals] A complete letdown. The sashimi was enjoyable, but overall the menu was simply conservative—harshly put, lacking creativity. Even for summer there were too many cold dishes in a row, and they were served far too cold. I understand the attendants are busy, but even though I chose a Plan that included shabu-shabu, they forgot to bring the dipping sauces at the right time so I couldn’t enjoy the meat properly. At breakfast as well, service mistakes such as continuing to heat yudofu until it became overcooked were serious issues. [Overall] Around 3.5 stars seems fair. In a good way these old-style Japanese inns are valuable in their own right, but this one lacked something extra that truly wins guests over.

    Mother-and-daughter trip

    It was a wonderful stay. The serene atmosphere and the warm welcome from the staff were truly soothing, and soaking in the hot natural spring left me feeling refreshed from the inside out. The meals served in our Room were exceptional, and I was completely captivated by the delicious, beautifully presented dishes. I’ve already promised my mother and sister that we will definitely come again! I’m so glad we found such a lovely Accommodation.

    It was a very comfortable Accommodation.

    We stayed here as a family during the Obon holidays. We arrived a little earlier than the check-in time, but we were allowed to use the parking lot and enjoyed sightseeing in the area. This time we stayed in a second-floor Room. The building itself felt a bit old, but it was very well maintained, and we were able to spend our time comfortably. The private indoor bath in the Room had a lovely hinoki scent, and the water temperature was just how we like it, so we enjoyed it many times. We also used each large public bath, which was great as well. (However, since it was summer, it seems water is added to adjust the temperature, and I felt it could have been a bit hotter.) Both dinner and breakfast were excellent in appearance and taste. This time we chose the steak upgrade Plan. It was very delicious, but if I had to ask for more, I think it would have been even better if there were other seasonings such as wasabi or salt so we could enjoy different ways of tasting the steak. Overall, it was a wonderful Accommodation that left us very satisfied. The staff who assisted us during our stay were also extremely helpful. If we have another opportunity, we would like to stay again in autumn or winter and try a different Room.

    It was excellent.

    This wonderful Accommodation made us feel truly elegant. The food was delicious—beautiful kaiseki cuisine and Oita Wagyu shabu-shabu were outstanding. It is a charming, atmospheric Accommodation that perfectly matches the image of where you would want to stay in Yufuin. We would love to stay again.

    Highly satisfied

    It was a very cozy Accommodation. The staff member in charge was friendly and provided excellent service. We stayed for two nights, and unfortunately it rained so we didn’t go out, but we were able to spend a relaxing time in the Room. My mother also said she would definitely like to come again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

    Satisfied!

    I stayed here with my mother while visiting Oita. Even though we made a last-minute Reservation, we were able to enjoy a relaxing in-room meal, and the Onsen was wonderful. It was also very helpful that we could use the parking lot when we arrived a little early and on the day of check-out. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again.

    I had heard that the...

    I had heard that the food here was delicious, so I was curious to try it. As rumored, the dishes were incredibly tasty, and I was very satisfied. The open-air bath in the Room was at a perfect temperature, and I enjoyed it multiple times. I was lucky to witness the morning mist over Lake Kinrin due to the season. The staff member who took care of our Room was very polite, kind, and engaging in delightful conversations—I would love to meet them again. If given the chance, I would love to visit again. Thank you so much!

    The Room's bath was spacious, the hot spring quality was excellent, and I enjoyed it multiple times with great satisfaction. The meals were also very delicious.

    It was a wonderful trip.

    The room was a Japanese-style room without an open-air bath on the second floor. Open-air bath rooms are very popular, and we couldn't make a Reservation, so we recommend booking early. The room was very clean, and we were able to relax with in-room dining. There are four types of large public baths available, which alternate between men and women. I was able to enjoy a quiet soak alone without encountering others. The meals were delicious, and I even had seconds of the Oita beef. The staff were kind and even came to greet us at the parking lot. I would love to stay here again!

    I was very satisfied this time as well.

    We have been visiting the same room and enjoying the same meal course every year for four years as a couple. We look forward to traveling from Yokohama to Yufuin for the cuisine and baths. The meals are perfect in quality, variety, and quantity—always exceptionally delicious, thanks to the chef. The cypress bath has a large tub with plenty of water, offering an indescribable comfort when soaking deeply. We also appreciate the kind service from the front desk staff and the efficient assistance from the attendants. This is our favorite accommodation as a couple, and we will continue to visit in the future.

    I had a relaxing time.

    We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. It was our first time in Yufuin, but we were able to truly relax and enjoy the Onsen and meals. Additionally, the staff kindly assisted us throughout the three days, which made both my spouse and me very happy.

    It was a comfortable stay with friends.

    A friend from my student days visited from outside the prefecture, so we decided to stay at Tanokura-san, where I had wanted to stay for a long time. We stayed as a group of three, and the room was spacious enough. Since meals were served in the room, we could enjoy long conversations without worrying about our surroundings. The large public bath was not very spacious, but it had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, offering a gentle Onsen experience. The amenities were also well-equipped. The welcome and farewell were courteous, and the service was heartwarming. In particular, our room attendant, Takahara-san, was very helpful, with a perfect balance of courtesy and friendliness. We enjoyed a wide variety of dishes. It seems my friends also had a good impression of Yufuin.

    Wonderful (especially the hospitality of the Nakai-san)

    2 nights and 3 days stay (Room with open-air bath). 2 adults, 2 children. Highly rated aspects: 1) Hospitality (The staff was wonderful). 2) Meals (The content, quality, and quantity were overall good). 3) Bath (The open-air bath was particularly pleasant). 4) Room (It was spacious and it was nice to see the beautiful courtyard). 5) Location. I would love to stay again.

    It was a very lovely Stays!

    We stayed at Tanokura for a girls' trip. The purpose of the trip was to relax at the property, and we truly enjoyed a leisurely time. The food was especially delicious...! We had many seasonal dishes using local specialties that we rarely get to enjoy elsewhere. The portions were just right. The spacious and clean room was separated from others, so we weren't bothered by noise from other rooms, and we could chat freely. The service was also very attentive and pleasant. We would love to stay again when we visit Yufuin.
