    The entire property—...

    The entire property—including the Rooms and Onsen—was clean and stylish. The food was delicious, and it was a place where we could truly relax. The lobby also has a great view, making it perfect for unwinding. The Onsen in particular was clean and refreshing, with a view of the Kinugawa River flowing in front of it. They also prepared a kids’ meal that children will enjoy. Adults will be satisfied as well—the portions are generous, the flavors are excellent, and you’ll leave feeling full. We would definitely like to stay again.

    It was a very lovely...

    It was a very lovely Accommodation. It was a bit disappointing that the open-air bath has fairly high surrounding walls, so you can’t see much of the outside scenery. The meals were a little different from what we expected, which was also slightly disappointing.

    A Relaxing Accommodation in Kinugawa

    We chose this Accommodation for our family spring break trip because we wanted to relax in a quiet setting. Everyone was very kind, from the Shuttle Service between stations to the service during meals, and we had a very pleasant stay. As parts of the property are being renovated, some of the Facility felt a bit dated. The areas that were well cleaned didn’t bother us, but… There was dust and small cobwebs—noticeable even to our second-grade daughter… We’re sensitive to house dust, so it made our noses feel itchy… The meals were very delicious, but for us as a couple the portions were quite large (lol). Also, at age 8, dishes like vinegared miso and firefly squid might have been a bit challenging (lol). We’d be happy if there were just slightly more kid-friendly meal options…

    Because it is a litt...

    Because it is a little away from the Kinugawa Onsen area, it was very quiet, and the view of the Kinugawa River from the Room was wonderful. The dinner was exceptionally delicious. It was the best meal I have had at any Accommodation in the past few years. It made for a very fulfilling solo trip combining sightseeing in Nikko with Kinugawa Onsen.

    Arrived earlier than expected, but the staff welcomed us warmly without any complaints. The facility was quite cold... Make sure to bring your own innerwear. Meals were served in a completely private room!! We enjoyed them leisurely and they were delicious! The futon was prepared for us, making it a very comfortable stay. The view from the Room was amazing! However, it was quite cold overall.

    I was satisfied and rebooked, but it was terrible.

    Despite booking the accommodation just a day before the May holidays last year and being impressed with the meals and service, this time was disappointing. Upon arrival, three staff members greeted us as we descended the slope. The warm welcome at check-in remained consistent with previous experiences. We arrived around 5 PM, filled out the guest register, and were informed that dinner would be at 7 PM and breakfast at 7:45 AM without any consideration for our preferences. Since we checked in late, we didn’t mind much and proceeded to our room. This time, as there were no nearby convenience stores to purchase supplies for restocking the fridge, I decided to drink water from it but found not even a single bottle of mineral water inside. For a price of ¥41,500 per night during peak season rates—though understandable—it was my first experience staying in a Ryokan charging over ¥40,000 without providing even one bottle of mineral water. The service was entirely handled by foreign staff who had been working there for less than a year according to what I heard. Regardless of staffing shortages, more thorough training on hospitality should be implemented. For instance: before lighting up the shabu-shabu pot flame properly during dinner service, rice bowls with pickles placed on top were served alongside miso soup; sake bottles were brought out hastily side-by-side only for pouring quickly before leaving immediately afterward. There’s no end if complaints are listed further here—while last visit earned top marks from me previously; unfortunately now deserves lowest rating instead due lackluster experience overall compared prior expectations met earlier times spent here previously enjoyed better standards upheld consistently beforehand altogether! If employing foreign employees ensure proper training regarding serving etiquette thoroughly conducted moving forward please rectify shortcomings observed noted above addressed accordingly future guests satisfaction guaranteed maintained reputation intact long-term success achieved mutually beneficial outcomes desired ultimately attained shared goals aligned priorities fulfilled effectively     Despite the great view.

    Overall, the experience was average with a little extra. The meals were suitable in portion for elderly guests, but it would be appreciated if they could be seasoned with less salt and more broth. The Room faced the mountain stream with a great view, but it was unfortunate that the windows couldn't be opened due to an infestation of insects.

    It was a cozy and tranquil place.

    Located slightly away from Kinugawa Onsen, this tranquil Ryokan is surrounded by bamboo groves along the Kinugawa River. Rooms are available from the 4th to the 6th floor, and with elevator access to dining areas and baths, there’s no need for long walks—very convenient. Meals are served in private rooms, featuring kaiseki cuisine where warm dishes are served warm and cold dishes cold. Even the miso soup was piping hot! For the first time in a while, I almost completely finished both dinner and breakfast. Despite booking just a day prior, it turned out to be a great choice. Special thanks to our room attendant for their thoughtful service. However, it was slightly disappointing that only one bath towel per room was provided for use at the onsen. This place seems suitable even for solo travelers; I’d love to visit again during off-peak seasons!

    The design of the Room is very poor.

    The air conditioning is not effective in certain areas. Two single beds are placed in a narrow space, making it difficult to get into bed. The essential Onsen is not sourced directly from the spring. During the cold season, the water temperature is lukewarm and does not provide sufficient warmth.

    It was a courteous hospitality.

    It was my second visit, and the hospitality remained courteous. The Room was clean, and the amenities were well-prepared. However, many of the staff handling Room guidance and serving meals were from foreign countries. They were doing their best after receiving training, so I had no complaints, but there was inevitably a lack of smoothness and efficiency, which made the waiting time feel long. I thought it might be better if they received a bit more training before handling these tasks. Nevertheless, it was clear that the Ryokan staff properly conveyed manners. I felt the exceptional hospitality that sets them apart from others during my previous visit, so I would love to visit again once improvements are made.
