    Remnants of the bubble era

I revisited for the first time in about eight years. Even on my previous stay, the place already felt a bit dated—like a remnant of the bubble era—but I took that as part of its charm. This time, however, it felt less like “charm” and more like noticeable aging and wear across the Facilities, which was honestly a little disappointing. Given how large the property is, I understand maintenance must be challenging, but there were several areas that stood out. It also seemed like there were fewer staff than before, and a higher proportion of international staff. Everyone was polite and helpful, but it did feel somewhat understaffed overall. The dinner venue has been nicely renovated from traditional Japanese-style rooms to a Western-style space, which was a positive change. On the other hand, the food felt a bit more modest than I remembered (though this may depend on the season). Breakfast in particular used to be memorable, so this time it felt rather simple—and for me it was the most disappointing part of this stay. To be frank, it was on par with breakfast at an inexpensive Business Hotel. Because I remember how it used to be, these changes stood out more to me; I also sensed how difficult things can be amid changing times and circumstances. Still, I hope its appeal will return again.

    First Hirado

Despite the heavy rain and strong winds, you kindly accommodated us even before check-in time. Thank you as well for preparing dinner on short notice. The Wi-Fi signal was weak, so the connection wasn’t very reliable, but we were able to relax in the Onsen. Thank you.

Hirado for the First Time in 50 Years

This was my first time back in Hirado in 50 years. Climbing the hill was tough, and I tried castella dos. I’m not sure which church it was, but it was a quiet town. This Accommodation has three buildings, so I wasn’t sure which one to choose. The Room was spacious—almost too much for one person. It was great to be able to see the illuminated Hirado Castle from both the Room and the restaurant at dinner. At dinner, the proprietress came to greet us, which is rare these days and gave it a long-established feel. The dinner menu was also very good. The tempura was served hot at just the right time.

A Trip to Honor Your Parents

There are many steps when moving to the dining area or Onsen, which might be inconvenient for elderly guests. Thank you for adding the Hirado flounder sashimi during its season. The Hirado beef steak was also delicious.

    The staff were very ...

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, the walls seemed thin, possibly due to the age of the facility, and we could hear voices from the neighboring room clearly. There appeared to be many group guests, which might explain some of the noise. The dirt and dust on the windows were also noticeable, which felt like a missed opportunity given the great location. That said, this Ryokan might appeal to those who enjoy traditional accommodations. The Onsen was far from our room and felt inconvenient. We also visited the open-air bath but were disappointed as it was not ready even after its scheduled time.

    The open-air bath is amazing!

I had a concern and consulted over the phone, and the response was prompt and courteous, which immediately eased my worries. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy my stay thoroughly. The Hotel is very large, and the view from the open-air bath is truly spectacular. Bathing while feeling the breeze is the ultimate relaxation. The staff's attentiveness was impeccable, and thanks to everyone at the Hotel, it became an unforgettable memory. If I have the chance, I would love to stay again.

    Best value for money

The facility is overall old but well-maintained and clean, leaving a good impression. During my stay, the outdoor bath boiler was out of order and unavailable. Additionally, part of the panoramic bath was under repair, with showers and other features removed. I hope these issues are truly being fixed... I had breakfast, which included many local dishes and was delicious. Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM; however, when I went after 8:00 AM, there were very few guests left and many dishes were already finished. I recommend going as early as possible. This accommodation seems to be the top choice when staying in Hirado.

    Stays are not bad, but

The toilet smelled strongly of tobacco. I think the previous guest ignored the no-smoking rule and smoked secretly, but since there didn't seem to be many guests, I wish they had considered the room allocation. Also, it was unfortunate that the outside of the guest room had a tin roof, and the sound of rain echoed all night. The staff's response was polite. The view from the large public bath was nice, and the selection of shampoos was plentiful.
