    A Satisfying Stay

    While the building may not be brand-new and the service may not be flawless, this Accommodation offered a satisfying stay with a warm, relaxed atmosphere. In the Room’s tokonoma alcove, elegant fresh flowers were arranged; in the private dining room, a hanging scroll and seasonal flowers were also displayed; and throughout the corridors, framed pieces and furnishings conveyed the Accommodation’s history. The meals showcased the chef’s creativity and skill, and every dish was delicious. The spacious public bath also featured abundant free-flowing hot spring water, soothing away travel fatigue. I visited on a fast-paced trip, but if possible, I would like to stay here at a more leisurely pace.

    The free-flowing Onsen water pours vigorously from the wall into the indoor bath, and in the open-air bath it cascades like a waterfall from the rocks—something Onsen lovers will truly appreciate. This was my father’s favorite place, and he was very happy. The meals were delicious and just the right amount. On the way to the large public bath, it was fun to see carp gathering where the spring water flows and bathing under it like a waterfall shower. The Room felt refreshingly cool with lush green trees outside. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    A perfect summer retreat, where a lush green garden and crisp, refreshing air soothe and restore you.

    Beautiful scenery, a resort-like atmosphere throughout the property, and carefully prepared seasonal dishes. The service was attentive, courteous, and truly pleasant. The cool natural air and enjoyable walks made me very glad I visited. Breakfast was also brought to our table, allowing us to relax and enjoy the meal at ease. I appreciated the Shuttle Service from Yudanaka Station, and taking a short break in the lounge was a wonderful time as well. Although it was a trip during the heat, I felt refreshed and ready to get through the summer with renewed energy. I am turning 77 this year. I want to continue enjoying wonderful trips—dressing up and savoring stays at Resort Hotels and Ryokans.

    The Hotel has a great atmosphere, and the monkeys saved me.

    A Showa-era retro Hotel. The entrance staff welcomed us with a smile. The entrance, lobby, and corridors leading to the Room were decorated with paintings and fresh flowers, which raised our expectations, but the Room amenities lacked taste; the faucets were rusty, and even the toilet paper holder was a basic household type. Travel is supposed to feel special and out of the ordinary, but there was none of that here. Dinner was also not good. Breakfast was enjoyable, so it felt like a different chef had prepared it. The price was fairly high, but this Hotel did not live up to it. However, the snow monkeys we visited at Jigokudani after checkout were charming and fun. They are well worth seeing.

    Rooms with a private Onsen are highly recommended!

    From the pleasant experience when I called to arrange the Shuttle Service, I felt reassured and was able to visit with confidence. The Yudanaka hot spring water is very hot, so you can’t soak for long and need to dip in briefly and often—choosing a Room with a private Onsen was absolutely the right decision. The private dining room was calm and comfortable, which made it easy to enjoy the meal. The menu is vegetable-focused and healthy, so it feels perfect for a trip to rest both mind and body. I was a little sad there wasn’t any Champagne, so next time I may bring my own (lol). The occasional evening classical concert was truly soothing. Many of the audience members were guests from overseas, and it felt like a shame that there were fewer Japanese attendees. Since Japanese pieces are included as well, I hope more people will join. One disappointing point was that some foreign guests who didn’t know Japanese Onsen etiquette brought bath towels into the bathing area. They were even drying themselves inside the large public bath, so it may be helpful to clearly explain Onsen manners at check-in as well. There were English notices in the changing room (such as washing before entering), but they didn’t seem to be read… Perhaps providing a separate handout with photos would help? Since this is such a wonderful Onsen, I hope everyone can use it comfortably. This ended up being long, but I would love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Late Autumn in Northern Nagano

    This time, we enjoyed a relaxing stay with IKYU's value Plan, featuring a spacious Room with Onsen and private dining at a traditional restaurant. The final dish of matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi was delightful, showcasing heartfelt cuisine. The piano and flute lobby concert brought back memories with its beautiful melodies, creating a wonderful experience. Blessed with good weather, we admired the snowy mountains and viewed apple orchards, distant ranges, and the Chikuma River from the Nagaden express private compartment while reminiscing about Shimazaki Toson’s poetry in lively conversation. Staying at such excellent Accommodation allowed us to savor the lingering charm of our trip. Thanks to Diamond Member services, we also received house wine as a gift before leaving. It was truly a lovely late autumn journey.

    A high-quality and tranquil accommodation without extravagance

    In recent years, I have enjoyed Onsen at accommodations in Yudanaka, Shibu Onsen, and even during skiing trips to Shiga Kogen. Each Onsen has its own unique characteristics. This was my first time staying at this accommodation. Kanbayashi Onsen is a small hot spring area with only a few Ryokan and Hotels. However, this adds to the feeling of a quiet and relaxing holiday stay. The accommodation has a rich history and is said to have hosted the Emperor during his time as Crown Prince. While the building itself seems old (you can feel its history in the fittings, doors, faucets, etc.), the interior has been renovated and is clean with an atmosphere of Showa Modern or Taisho Modern charm. It’s not flashy but offers a comfortable and leisurely stay. The Onsen features an abundant flow of fresh natural spring water directly from the source—its freshness is outstanding. The water quality feels gentle compared to other nearby Onsens. The open-air bath provides such comfort that you could soak for hours. The meals were delicious as well. Although it was slightly early for autumn foliage during my visit, I can imagine how stunning it must be when fully colored. Winter also seems like it would be wonderful here too. This place is perfect for those who are tired of expensive and overly flashy accommodations that have become common in popular hot spring areas recently!

    A nostalgic and relaxing accommodation.

    It has been two years since my last visit. I love the atmosphere of Obuse town in Nagano Prefecture, and every time I visit, I stay at this accommodation. The food, the room, and the bath all bring a sense of calmness. The meals are delicious and something to look forward to; however, as I age, I find it harder to finish everything. While I hesitate to leave food uneaten, it would be wonderful if there were an option for smaller portions of delicious meals. Would that be possible?

    Excellent location. Enjoy beautiful views of the garden and the Northern Shinano mountains from both your room and the lobby, offering a truly relaxing experience. The monthly changing cuisine is carefully prepared, full of seasonal flavors, and absolutely delicious. Breakfast offers a variety of tasty dishes including rice and morning porridge; it was so good that even my son emptied the rice container! The lounge in the lobby is tastefully designed, providing a space for genuine relaxation. All staff members are polite, sincere, and welcoming, making us eager to return again. The Shuttle Service from Yudanaka Station was greatly appreciated, as well as the benefits for Diamond Members. This stay beautifully combined resort-like comfort with traditional Japanese Ryokan charm while creating wonderful memories amidst Shinshu's stunning scenery.

    I was intrigued by the excellent reviews and decided to stay at this accommodation. The room photos appeared to show a duvet-style bed, but it turned out to be the traditional style, making the room feel older than expected. The male breakfast staff worked efficiently and greeted us warmly, which was very pleasant. The majority of guests seemed to be elderly.

    The Onsen in the room was excellent.

    The temperature of the Onsen in the room was perfect, and I enjoyed it multiple times both at night and in the morning. It was a very pleasant Onsen experience. The staff were all very kind and welcoming. The meals were absolutely delicious. During dinner, I asked for extra rice, and they gladly brought plenty, leaving me completely satisfied. The Diamond benefits made for a delightful souvenir. After checking out, I visited Shiga Kogen. It’s close to Senjukaku, and with great weather, it was a refreshing experience.

    A Wonderful Luxury Ryokan

    A luxury Ryokan near Shibu Onsen. Known as a prestigious Hotel where even members of the royal family have stayed, the staff are well-trained, and although the restaurant servers were foreigners, they were attentive and skilled despite speaking quickly. The Onsen is on the hotter side, but the open-air bath was comfortable even in this season. Above all, the cleanliness of the spacious interior and guest rooms was outstanding, making for a very comfortable stay.

    Thank you for the wonderful experience. This stay was at the strong request of my wife, and we are so glad we chose this accommodation. Although we felt a bit uneasy walking through the snowy path from the bus rotary, our feelings completely changed by the time we left—we already wanted to come back again. As an onsen enthusiast, I can confidently say that this was one of the best onsen experiences I've ever had. The meals were prepared with delicious local ingredients, beautifully presented, and easy to enjoy, allowing us to fully savor seasonal local flavors. While the onsen warmed our bodies, it was truly your staff's hospitality that warmed our hearts during this stay. This is an accommodation I can wholeheartedly recommend to someone special.

    Moved by the stay after a long time

    This trip was for skiing in Shiga Kogen. While staying at accommodation close to the slopes seemed convenient, I couldn't forget the wonderful experience from my previous stay here, so I chose this place again. It has been about 10 years since my last visit. Although I had wanted to stay here many times before, it was often fully booked and I had to give up. This time, my wish finally came true. One of the children traveling with me wasn't feeling well—no fever but low energy and little appetite. However, after soaking in the onsen and resting until dinner, they regained their energy and enjoyed a hearty meal. The next day, they were able to ski all day long. We stayed in a room with an onsen again this time and spent our time relaxing. The room was clean, with a small origami crane placed thoughtfully by the prepared futon pillows—a lovely touch that warmed our hearts. The large public bath was not crowded either, allowing us to enjoy soaking in the abundant onsen water at leisure. For dinner, we were served soba noodles even though it wasn’t listed on the menu—it was absolutely delicious! Even ingredients I'm usually not fond of tasted great here; everything was so flavorful that I ate it all without hesitation. The rice was also excellent—I ended up having several servings! For breakfast, we chose Japanese-style dishes which were plentiful and equally delicious—I overate once again! If I may make one suggestion: including an egg dish like tamagoyaki or onsen eggs would be delightful even if it meant reducing one other item. Due to skiing plans, we checked out early but wished we could have relaxed until 11 AM checkout time instead. The view from the garden was also beautiful. Next time I'd love to bring my parents while they're still healthy enough to travel together!

    The hospitality is excellent.

    The kaiseki cuisine at the Japanese Ryokan always seems to have a lot of dishes, but often the taste is not impressive, and this time was no exception. Although the ingredients were sourced locally and the dishes were elaborate, I think it would be better to reduce the number of dishes and make the presentation more beautiful, providing dishes that are easy to understand for guests from overseas. I also felt that the futons need to be thicker and more comfortable to sleep on. The paintings and furnishings inside the building were beautiful.

    Third time, a wonderful Hotel.

    This is my third time. I happened to get a cancellation for a Room with a bed. My wife was very pleased and said that staying only one night was a waste. There is a sense of openness from the lobby, and it is also very clean. The staff are extremely courteous. The large public bath was spacious, perhaps because there were many foreigners, and despite being fully booked, there were only 1-3 users at a time. The meals were excellent in both quantity and quality, and the drinks went down well.

    Free-flowing Onsen, beautiful architecture and interior, delicious food, excellent service - I have experienced many Onsen Stays, but this Property was perfect. I would definitely like to use it again if I have the opportunity. I understand why the Emperor has visited many times. Thank you very much.

    The best Onsen

    Above all, the greatest attraction is the abundant flow of Onsen. The temperature is neither too hot nor too cold, truly the best Onsen. My wife also says she wants to come here every year. The food and tableware are impeccable. Additionally, the staff excel in hospitality, which warmed our hearts. We look forward to staying with you again.

    Late autumn in Shinshu, with snow-viewing baths available.

    Amidst the beautiful late autumn scenery, the seasonal menu, including the last matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi of the season, is incredibly delicious and offers a sense of wonder and enjoyment no matter how many times you visit. This time, the occasional snowfall felt like a gift from the heavens. Despite the many guests, the lobby and lounge with their calm and serene interiors provided a relaxing atmosphere. The heartfelt service and polite language were pleasant, making me want to visit again. The wine service for IKYU Diamond members was also delightful. The property's shuttle service was courteous and much appreciated.

    A relaxing onsen Stays

    This time, I stayed in a room with an onsen bath. However, I was more attracted to the large public bath and the open-air bath, so I didn't use it much. The food at this hotel has always been excellent in both quality and quantity, but compared to before, it seemed to have declined a bit.

    Mother-daughter trip

    I stayed here at my mother's request. I was warmly welcomed upon arrival. The facility, though old, has a charming appearance, and there were many interesting paintings displayed inside. The hot spring water was also very good. My skin feels smooth. It relieved my daily fatigue. It's nice to be able to enjoy the hot spring 24 hours a day.
