    I won’t be staying here again.

    Although this is a historic Accommodation, it was renovated in 2023, so the Room was clean and nicely updated. The contrast with the areas that haven’t been renovated also lets you feel the property’s history (I happened to notice the manufacturing date on the washlet was 2026, so it seems some parts may have been updated even after 2023). The Onsen is small but sufficiently sized. The toiletries were POLA (for men) and MIKIMOTO (for women), which was a plus. Being able to view the garden from the Room is also likely one of those highly rated points typical of historic Accommodations. Up to here are the positives. However... We stayed one night at Dogo Onsen the day before and then visited here, and when you stay two nights in Accommodations in a similar price range, comparisons are inevitable. Some weaker points stood out, and some issues were unacceptable even without comparison. What stood out in comparison was that the service didn’t come close. At dinner, tea was self-service, and water didn’t come unless we asked. At both dinner and breakfast (different staff each time), their movements weren’t polished—they seemed rushed and cramped, as if they had no breathing room. Perhaps they were simply understaffed? It didn’t feel like an atmosphere where you could eat calmly. And most importantly: the meals were still at a “Showa-era rural inn” level. Just by looking at them you could predict the taste—honestly, wouldn’t an Accommodation costing two-thirds as much serve food at about this level? The creative dishes looked good but lacked flavor. The sashimi menu said seasonal fish and hon-maguro (bluefin tuna), but there wasn’t a single piece of tuna included. The ingredients overall felt mediocre. And I had been looking forward to the main steak, but it was terrible: six pieces were served, yet all were almost completely white—mostly fat. One piece filled me up; I somehow managed a second; forced down a third with rice; by the fourth I felt sick and rushed to the restroom, leaving the rest uneaten. I eat steak in many places—and on this trip we even splurged on Matsusaka beef—so I do know what good meat tastes like. When I asked staff if they really serve this as-is, they said yes—so I’d call it “premium wagyu tallow steak.” Given how highly rated it is in Review(s), my expectations were high, but this is unquestionably one star for me. Did renovation costs go too far—leading them to cut quality across various areas and reduce staff? I will not be returning.

    First-class hospitality

    There is nothing flashy, but the Room was thoroughly cleaned, the bathroom was spotless, the meals were beautifully presented and full of variety, and the warm, heartfelt hospitality made me feel this Accommodation is first-class in every way. The hot spring water quality was also excellent. The only slight downside was that there are only four washing stations, so it can get crowded at times, but I’m glad I could spend a quiet stay overall. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again.

    A relaxing Ryokan.

    I stayed here for a one-night, two-day solo trip. Since it was before an event in Hagi, there were fewer guests, and I was able to relax in peace and quiet. What I especially liked: - The building, garden, and Room are wonderful - All staff were kind while keeping a comfortable distance - Everything is very well cleaned - The food is delicious (they make an effort to serve hot dishes hot) - The souvenirs sold in the lobby are great One small downside: - No cold drinks are sold inside the property (one bottle of water is provided; otherwise you need to order drinks with meals or buy them in advance at a convenience store, etc.) Solo travel can sometimes feel a bit tense, but I was able to truly relax here. The bath is compact but extremely clean with a nice atmosphere—more than enough for me. There was also a wide selection of alcoholic drinks at dinner (extra charge), and the meat was very tender. I would love to visit again.

    We stayed here for a...

    We stayed here for a long-awaited parent-and-child Onsen trip. I chose this Accommodation so my elderly parents could relax, soak in the Onsen, and enjoy a sense of luxury and an escape from everyday life—and it was truly wonderful. The Onsen had excellent water, and both the Facility and cleanliness were outstanding. That said, while weekdays in the off-season should be fine, I did wonder if it might feel crowded during peak periods. Since we visited on an off-season weekday, it was perfect with no issues. Our room overlooked the garden and was soothing to look at; it was clean, quiet, and very relaxing. I would have been happy if there had been a slightly wider selection of drinks in the room. I forgot my cleansing product, but they provided MIKIMOTO cosmetics amenities, which I really appreciated. Both the attendants and all staff were full of hospitality, and the service was excellent. The lobby had a lovely atmosphere, and the garden—beautifully lit up at night—was also stunning during the day. The displays of Hagi ware pottery and carefully selected items (which didn’t feel like a typical gift shop) were also wonderful. I would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    It is a great accommodation.

    The location is near Shoin Shrine, a little outside the city center, with good transportation access. There are no downtown areas or shops nearby, so it was quiet. The building seems old, but it is well maintained. It’s a long-established place. Various items from around the Meiji Restoration period are on display. The Room offers a high level of privacy and feels like an annex. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the garden. I didn’t feel there was any shortage of amenities. I was surprised to see two calligraphy pieces by Tsuyoshi Inukai displayed in the Room. The Onsen bath area has wooden interiors and high ceilings, giving it a charming atmosphere. The meals felt like classic Ryokan dinner fare, with each dish carefully prepared; in particular, the wagyu shabu-shabu was delicious—tender meat with plenty of lean portions. The service also struck a good balance and felt comfortable.

    With warm smiles and heartfelt hospitality, a beautiful space blending Japanese and Western styles, and gentle Japanese cuisine made with local ingredients, our stay was truly wonderful. The Room is comfortable, combining a Japanese-style room overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden with a cozy bedroom.     It was relaxing.

    The historical building and garden are meticulously maintained, and the staff's hospitality was exceptional. The person in charge of our Room shared insights about the cuisine and the charm of Hagi, making it a wonderful trip. The fish-centered meals were delicious. We enjoyed a relaxing time at night while gazing at the garden from the corridor. The bath is small but cozy, and during the off-season, we could enjoy it leisurely. The hot spring water was excellent as well. Our Room was on the second floor and very peaceful; while it seems that the best garden view is from the first floor, we were satisfied as we could still enjoy it from the corridor. Definitely planning to return!

    2 Years Belated Pearl Wedding Anniversary

    A traditional Ryokan with exceptional hospitality!

    From arrival to departure, we received exceptionally courteous service throughout. The in-room dinner featured a creative autumn-inspired menu, and every dish from appetizers to dessert was absolutely delicious. My family and I were thoroughly satisfied. The room was spacious, with a layout resembling a private annex, giving the feeling of having the Japanese garden all to ourselves. Thanks to the attentive care of the staff, our stay in Hagi became truly memorable. Although we usually stay at hotels, this experience allowed us to deeply appreciate the charm of a traditional Japanese Ryokan once again.

    The price was overal...

    The price was overall reasonable for the stay. Dinner was creative and enjoyable, showcasing originality. Breakfast felt slightly lacking, but the freshly grilled horse mackerel was delicious. One downside was that the bedroom did not get completely dark, which affected sleep quality. However, the staff at the accommodation were very kind and made the stay pleasant.

    Pride of a Long-Established Ryokan

    It was a wonderful Ryokan with excellent service and meals. The staff's smiles truly warmed our hearts. I would love to visit again next year. However, for someone with knee pain, it would have been nice to have a chair in the Room.

    No powder room available.

    A twin-bed Japanese-Western style room with a garden view. Overall, it is a calm and mature accommodation. However, there were some inconveniences: the women's powder space is only in the washroom and lacks a chair. There are no bedside tables by the beds to place items like smartphones. Soundproofing between rooms is insufficient, so noise can be heard. Since in-room dining is the only option, it was inconvenient not being able to leave luggage spread out in the living space. These small details can cause stress due to poor usability.

    It was the best accommodation.

    We planned a trip to Hagi on a whim, inspired by my husband's idea. Recalling a feature in a magazine, we booked an accommodation plan that included one night's stay with two meals. Upon arrival, the gentleman who first assisted us was very pleasant, giving us a glimpse of the quality of the accommodation. We were also delighted with his thorough explanation of the Diamond benefits. We were surprised to find that our attendant was male, but he was incredibly kind—taking multiple photos for us at the gate and sharing information about Hagi souvenirs and the Yamayaki event at Akiyoshidai. Dinner was served in our room, and both its taste and presentation were exceptional. The staff at the shop and reception were all friendly and provided warm service. The bath area was compact but clean, with both hot water and cold water available. Personally, I loved the scent of Mikimoto body soap. Everything was impeccably clean; doing my daily sit-ups on tatami mats felt much more comfortable compared to doing them on hotel beds. Thank you so much for your hospitality—it truly stood out as one of the best accommodations we've experienced in recent years (including hotels). We look forward to visiting again if we have another opportunity!

    The cleanliness of t...

    The cleanliness of the facility, the beauty of the garden, and the completely different atmosphere from the hot air outside made it very relaxing. I sincerely hope that such a Ryokan will continue to exist for years to come. The only disappointment was that the main dish for dinner, a hot pot, contained just three slices of pork and mizuna greens, along with dried sweetfish. Personally, I would prefer dried fish to be served in the morning.

    History, charm, garden, azaleas

    This accommodation carries a rich history of the local area, truly a 100-year-old establishment. The garden was enchanting and beautiful. I was able to spend a relaxing time here, thank you for your hospitality. Regarding the announcement about rice refills during breakfast, it would be more helpful if we were informed that refills are available right after the meal is served, rather than being asked when most of the side dishes have already been eaten. The meal itself was delicious.

    Rooms with a garden view are wonderful.

    The room was a renovated Japanese-Western style Room, originally two connected Japanese-style rooms. The entrance and bathroom area were spacious, and the garden view from the Room was delightful. The alcove and hanging scrolls added a touch of elegance, and there was also a small space for luggage. Although the bath was small, it was clean and well-designed. It was exciting to stay at a Ryokan where in-room dining is still available these days. Enjoying sake tasting was fun, and with the Western-style bedroom separated by sliding doors, it felt comfortable to relax before or after meals without worry. While the food wasn't bad, having had delicious sushi at Sea Mart for lunch made me think simpler dishes that highlight quality ingredients might be better suited here. Chatting with the staff added to the experience, making me want to visit again!

    I had a very meaningful and relaxing stay. The room was very comfortable, and the meals were very delicious. The Onsen was also very pleasant.     A trip for two夫妻

    I wanted to visit Hagi and Tsuwano, so I searched around. I decided on this property based on the reviews, and it turned out to be a great choice. The well-maintained garden and spacious rooms provided a sense of privacy and allowed me to relax completely. The food was also very satisfying in both taste and quantity. I traveled by car, and upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed, and they saw me off until I left the gate. It was a property that made me want to repeat my stay. The bathtub was spacious, and although it was a pity that it wasn't an onsen, it was still a very satisfying stay. I highly recommend this property.

    It was a very lovely Stays.

    It was a long-awaited trip with my parents. The room was a bit far, but it was clean and tidy, and from the room, we could see a well-maintained garden, making it a wonderful property. The service was courteous, and it made us feel very good. The entire property is designed to have views of the garden, and it is beautifully lit up at night. The meals were elaborate kaiseki cuisine with carefully prepared dashi, leaving us completely satisfied both physically and mentally. My parents were also very pleased. We would love to use it again.     It matches the atmosphere of Hagi, but the meals are disappointing.

    The service was very good. There are few ryokans that accommodate solo travelers, so it was very helpful. Meals were served in the room, and I felt a bit sorry since I was alone. Unfortunately, I was dissatisfied with the food. The teriyaki yellowtail was very small, about 5mm thick, and hard, and the appetizers were overly seasoned and poor. The Yamaguchi beef shabu-shabu was extremely delicious. The dried horse mackerel for breakfast was cold and hard. I would have preferred fewer dishes if it meant having warm food.

    It was truly a wonderful place.

    The memories created at this accommodation were truly wonderful, to the point where I wished time would stop so they wouldn't fade. The room, the meals, and all the staff—everything was beyond words. I am truly grateful. Borrowing a bicycle and exploring various parts of the town was also an amazing experience.

    A prestigious and historic Ryokan

    As one of the prominent Ryokan in Hagi, it featured a refined design with traditional fittings and walls, and a stone-paved corridor extending from the lobby, offering a serene space to view the garden. The lobby displayed ceramic works by artists, allowing us to discover wonderful Hagi ware. The service was courteous, and we were able to relax greatly. If there is anything to note, it might be a matter of preference, but there were many creative dishes, and it seemed there were fewer dishes that utilized the ingredients or allowed us to taste the flavors of Hagi. It was a very good Ryokan, and I would like to visit again.
