    Family Trip

    This was our second stay. We chose to stay here to see the sunset over Lake Saroma, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. This time, our family of seven made a Reservation for three Rooms, and we were very well taken care of. We were able to relax together as a family and had a truly enjoyable time. At dinner, thanks to the seating arranged in advance, all seven of us could dine together, which we greatly appreciated and were very satisfied with. We are sincerely grateful to all the staff for their consistently courteous service throughout our stay. We would love to stay at Saroma Lake Tsuruga Resort Hotel again on our next visit in hopes of seeing the sunset over Lake Saroma. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

    The rock open-air bath was wonderful.

    I stayed here to see the sunset over Lake Saroma, but the weather was bad and I couldn’t see it. The Room seemed newly renovated—it was clean and comfortable. However, the staff at the restaurant and the large public bath were foreigners, and even after ordering, nothing arrived. They were doing their best, but I wondered whether it’s appropriate for a Hotel of this level to have staff provide service without understanding the language. Also, there were very few amenities in the bath area; items like a body-washing towel, hair ties, and shower caps should be provided.

    Hospitality

    Upon arrival, the male staff member in the parking area provided perfect service, but the female staff at the front desk and the female staff who guided us to our room had an awful attitude—no smiles and a rude, arrogant manner. I have never experienced service like this before. It put me in a bad mood right from the start. The service at the restaurant and shop was very attentive, and although they were foreign staff members, it was excellent. It is truly disappointing to think this is a Hotel under the Tsuruga Resort brand. I will probably never use Saroma Resort Tsuruga again. Would you consider providing more thorough training for your Japanese female staff?

    The dinner buffet is amazing.

    Buffet-style dining is common at Hotels, but I was amazed that this buffet also came with generous servings of assorted seafood. Everything was delicious, and I ended up eating too much. There was also a great variety of desserts, which made it even more enjoyable. That day, I went to the Tulip Festival in Yubetsu Town—after seeing the beautiful flowers, breathing in the fresh air, and enjoying a wonderful meal, it became a truly memorable day.

    The Beauty of the Sunset

    I was able to spend a wonderful time, relaxing and watching the sunset from the Room window. The front desk service was impeccable, and the food was truly delicious. The fresh scallops at dinner were exceptional. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again.

    It was very good.

    I stayed for one night on a Sunday in May. The Room was a compact twin facing Lake Saroma with a shower booth, but it wasn’t an issue because there is a large public bath. The sunset over Lake Saroma was wonderful, and I enjoyed it from the Room (it also looked like you could enjoy it from the open-air bath on the 2nd-floor large public bath or from the restaurant). After that, I had dinner, and everything—from the raw oysters to the meat dishes—was very delicious. By chance, my sister who was staying with me had her birthday, and we were touched when they kindly treated us to one alcoholic drink each that we had added to dinner. Breakfast was also a well-thought-out buffet, and we were able to relax. The large public bath was kept very clean and comfortable thanks to a young staff member from Vietnam who diligently checked and cleaned in detail. The Onsen water was rich in iron and warmed me up well, but it didn’t quite match my personal preference, so I’m giving it 4 stars. I hope I can visit again.

    What we liked: The sunset view from the Room was very beautiful. What we would appreciate improving: It would be helpful to have a place near the sauna entrance to put sauna hats. We would also appreciate it if you could provide sauna mats, or leave an extra towel in the Room for sauna use.

    Room temperature

    Overall, I had a comfortable stay, but I felt the room temperature was set too high. Although I could adjust it myself, it was difficult to fine-tune. I wish there had been some instructions.

    The quality of the hot spring water was excellent.

    The Onsen water quality was excellent, and it warmed me up thoroughly. The meals, made with a focus on locally sourced ingredients, were delicious and very satisfying. However, there was no guidance about the amenities, and there was no explanation of how to close the Japanese-style Room door (fire door), so I would have liked more attentive service and instructions. Also, I would like towels to be available in the large public bath. Since there is only one set per person in the Room, it is difficult to reuse a wet towel each time.

    Room, Facility

    The Room was very small for the price, and I was dissatisfied with the Facility. The sink being next to the bed and the lack of individual air conditioning in the Room were disappointing. However, the bath and meals were good.

    It was our honeymoon!!

    We arrived just in the evening, and unfortunately, the timing to park the car coincided with the best sunset view... I wish we had arrived a bit earlier. However, the view from our room was absolutely stunning! Just before sunset, we were able to see a fox walking along the lakeside from our room! My husband and I were thrilled! Although there was no announcement about it, we later realized that we had been upgraded to a larger room than what we reserved. Thank you so much for your kind gesture. It's not often that we get to visit this area, but it was such a wonderful hotel that we'd love to stay again when sightseeing nearby!

    Family Trip

    I stayed in a 12-tatami mat Japanese-style Room for one night with my parents because my mother had previously stayed here and mentioned how beautiful the view was. The good points were that although the Room showed some age, it was relatively clean. Unfortunately, due to rain and thick clouds, we couldn't see the sunset, but the wide lake view was still breathtaking. I would love to come back on a sunny day for another try. The Onsen was also fantastic. Every dish we had for meals was delicious, and we ate until we were completely full. The downside was that there was dust inside the refrigerator and on the glasses provided. While I didn’t use the glasses, I needed to use the refrigerator and ended up wiping it myself. I look forward to staying here again! Thank you very much!

    It was excellent.

    The Room was great, and the sunset over Lake Saroma from the Room was amazing. The French dinner was delicious, and the wine was excellent as well. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance.

    Had a great trip!

    The staff provided courteous service. I was satisfied with the meals overall, but I gave 4 stars because there was no explanation about the sashimi boat served for dinner. When I returned from the buffet, it was already on the table. Not knowing this, I had taken plenty of seafood from the buffet beforehand, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, everything was delicious.

    Excellent

    The view from the window showed about half of a rusty roof, and the trees were a bit obstructive—that was my only complaint. But being on the second floor, it’s understandable. Everything else was perfect. I especially enjoyed the fresh oysters—ate almost all by myself! I had 7 and didn’t feel unwell at all. The sunset cocktail at the bar was delicious too. I will definitely come back again—absolutely! It was amazing. Thank you so much!

    Enjoy a Multiple Night Stay at Lake Saroma and experience the majestic nature and sunsets.

    In mid-June, we stayed for two nights in the [Lake & Sunset View] Deluxe Suite (formerly Royal Suite) during our trip to Hokkaido. This was the second accommodation from the Tsuruga Group on this trip, following "Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza." Located quietly along Lake Saroma within Abashiri Quasi-National Park, this white Western-style building offers nothing but its majestic scenery. Convenience is not a feature here, as it takes about 10 minutes by car to reach the nearest convenience store. However, the beauty of sunsets over the lake is truly captivating and adds a special charm to your journey. Lake Saroma, Japan's third-largest lake (and largest brackish water lake), features stunning views such as its sand spit separating it from the Sea of Okhotsk, Cape Kimuaneppu area, and Lake Saroma Observatory—all of which are easily accessible from this accommodation. While the surrounding environment is undeniably superb, unfortunately, the hotel itself shows significant signs of aging (both in rooms and shared areas), and customer service fell short of expectations for a Tsuruga Group property. Meals were primarily buffet-style with nothing particularly noteworthy; however, we enjoyed pairing fried oysters and asparagus tempura with Abashiri Drift Ice Draft Beer. The seafood platter served at dinner was also delightful—especially fresh oysters from Lake Saroma. We provided direct feedback regarding various issues—including parking guidance at check-in, service at reception and dining areas, as well as room defects—to both the manager and front desk supervisor verbally during our stay; thus detailed descriptions are omitted here. We hope for improvements in these areas moving forward (though we must commend one female staff member at the gift shop who was exceptionally helpful with arranging souvenir deliveries). Overall evaluation: Unfortunately not an experience that matched its price point.

    Non-smoking room with noticeable odor

    This was likely a Room where smoking was previously allowed, as the smell lingered noticeably. Considering current social trends, it would be better not to have smoking rooms within the facility.

    It was a good Hotel.

    The Facility is old, but the excellent customer service makes up for it. Even the staff with a "new employee" badge greeted us with a smile. Additionally, the buffet staff provided outstanding service. Thank you very much. The food was good as well, but instead of serving crab, perhaps focusing on fresh scallops—since this is a city known for them—might make your buffet stand out more? Just a thought!

    The large public bath facilities are limited.

    The Japanese staff were not very friendly or smiling. The foreign staff were pleasant, but some had difficulty understanding Japanese. Even if the Japanese is broken, that's fine, but when ordering wine, I couldn't understand the explanation about how to use the coins. Clear explanations would be appreciated.

    Satisfied.

    This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied. They kindly accommodated my 7 PM arrival, and the staff took care of my car. The front desk staff were also very polite. Both dinner and breakfast had a wide variety of dishes and were very delicious. The open-air bath was available, and the water temperature was just right. In the morning, the view of Lake Saroma from the room was beautiful and refreshing. When I asked for currency exchange at the shop on departure, they kindly assisted me. I would love to visit again!

    Room with a view of Lake Saroma.

    I reserved a room with a sunset view. To my surprise, the room not only offered a stunning sunset but also came with a monocular telescope to enjoy views of wild birds and the Wakka Wildflower Garden. It was the largest room in the Hotel, featuring a separate bedroom. I could relax while watching the serene sunset and the bustling movement of scallop fishing boats in the morning.

    Friendly and helpful staff

    We stayed with the Anniversary Plan. The staff who brought the cake and champagne to our room were efficient and showed wonderful attention to detail. The dinner buffet was delicious, offering refined flavors in every dish. The restaurant staff were very kind, and when we mentioned wanting to take the celebratory cake home, they carefully packed it with proper cooling for us. Their friendly conversation made for an enjoyable time, while their elegant yet approachable service left a great impression. It was a hotel that makes you want to visit again.

    Gourmet Cuisine and Hospitality

    Saroma Lake Tsuruga was a place I had always wanted to visit, and my wish finally came true at the end of January. It was a girls' trip with two elementary school children, their mother, and their aunt. We requested shuttle service between Memanbetsu Airport and the hotel, and we were deeply impressed by the driver's hospitality. Since we were the only passengers both ways, they took different routes for our journey to and from the accommodation, allowing us to enjoy sightseeing during the ride. The driver also shared stories about Team Loco Solare (mentioning how wonderful they are in person), which made us want to support them even more. The accommodation has a classic charm but is impeccably clean and provided a relaxing space. The meals were delightful; we especially enjoyed the seafood platter that exceeded all expectations—it was truly the best sashimi platter we've ever had! As it was just before Chinese New Year, there were guests from China as well. We happened to be seated next to a large Chinese family (including young children), and while cultural differences are understandable, it was challenging as children ran around while adults chatted loudly. However, at breakfast the next morning, we noticed that our table had been placed one seat away from theirs—perhaps thanks to thoughtful consideration by staff. Although we couldn't fully enjoy tranquility at Saroma Lake this time due to these circumstances, it was still an experience filled with exceptional hospitality and exquisite cuisine that makes us want to return again someday—perhaps during another season! Thank you very much for everything!

    The meal was disappointing.

    This was my second stay. The restaurant is buffet-style, designed so that you can enjoy your meal while watching the sunset from any seat. However, I was disappointed that the main menu items were delivered to the table after submitting an order card, and they were divided into categories of meat, fish, and vegetables. I was looking forward to it, but the seasoning was extremely salty or extremely bland, which was disappointing. Furthermore, this time I stayed in November, and there were no warm dishes, and the soup was a cold soup, which was surprising. As for the room, it was renovated in 2024 and was clean, but I was dissatisfied with the finish, such as the storage drawers opening on their own. The onsen was old-fashioned, but it was well-cleaned and comfortable to use. You can enjoy the open-air bath, lying bath, sauna, and more. The interior is very quiet with an atrium lobby design. The front lobby is on the second floor, with the restaurant, bathhouse, and souvenir shop on the first floor. The staff's response was very good, and their dedication was evident, which made the disappointing meal all the more regrettable.

    The melon and meat were very delicious. The standard twin room was as spacious as a Business Hotel; I should have upgraded. The sunset is amazing.

    Various disappointments

    Despite being a non-smoking Room, there was a clear smell of tobacco. While it is the problem of the previous guest for not following the rules, I question the Hotel's stance on offering such a Room as non-smoking. I appreciate the efforts of the staff in maintaining the impressive open-air bath and the old Facility. I wrote these things on the Room's questionnaire sheet, but there was no response afterward. Are good and bad things not shared within the Hotel? It was my first time at Tsuruga, but it turned out to be a disappointing experience.

    A hotel where you can experience the extraordinary overlooking Lake Saroma.

    It was my first trip to Eastern Hokkaido in 33 years, and I stayed for two nights from October 7th. The view of Lake Saroma from the Room was spectacular. Meals were buffet-style for both dinner and breakfast. The variety was abundant, and I didn't get bored even after two days. The cold soups, especially the corn soup and vichyssoise, were delicious. The scallop sashimi, raw oysters, and botan shrimp exceeded my expectations. The bath had a Japanese and European style with a gender-swapping system, but the bathing area was spacious, and I enjoyed the open-air bath. The service was also good. If I had to make a request, I would have liked a table in the Room (for example, near the bed). It would have been nice to have a table with space to read books, view documents on a computer, or place drinks. Thank you for your hospitality. I hope to use your services again someday.

    This is my favorite hotel.

    This is my fourth time staying here. I like this hotel because it is not too big, has a moderate size, and is in a quiet environment. All the staff are pleasant, and they greet you properly when passing by. What concerned me was the food; the rice at the buffet, both in the morning and evening, was dry and uneven, so I took a small portion but ended up leaving it. It was served by an automatic machine, but I think it should be maintained occasionally. It's a shame because the sashimi platter is so good.

    The thoughtfulness of the senior staff is wonderful.

    I enjoyed the local stories about deer and such from the driver who picked me up from Memanbetsu. Thank you for organizing the slippers in the bath. The view from the counter seats in the restaurant was nice, even for a solo diner. The room had a good diagonal view of Lake Saroma, but unfortunately, the counter seat by the window with a nice view couldn't be used due to people coming and going in the parking lot right in front.
