    A highly satisfying accommodation.

We stayed here a few years ago, and returned again because my husband said he “definitely wants to visit again.” The welcome sweets—warabi mochi—were so delicious that we bought some as souvenirs. The tatami flooring in the corridors and even inside the elevator felt wonderfully comfortable, and the open-air bath made us feel as if we were bathing right in a Japanese garden. Dinner was excellent; we requested a smaller portion, but it was still more than enough. The Room was spacious, and the sunken kotatsu-style table by the window was very relaxing and convenient. While many Accommodations ask guests to bring towels from their Room to the public bath, it felt great to be able to go without carrying anything. Breakfast was also delicious. We had planned to leave at a leisurely pace, but there were thunderstorms and heavy rain from midnight onward, so we ended up driving for two hours through intense rainfall. Afterward we saw news about flooding, and we are worried whether there was any damage to the Hotel or the surrounding area. We’re already talking about coming back during apple season. Thank you very much—we truly enjoyed everything.

It was a wonderful one-night stay.

My father, my husband, and I stayed in two Rooms. All of the staff were polite, friendly, and welcoming with warm smiles, and their service made us feel truly comfortable. The Accommodation itself was wonderful as well—being able to take the complimentary drinks from the first-floor lounge back to our Room, along with thoughtful touches like cold water after the bath, made the attentive service especially impressive. The baths were excellent too. Since they alternate between men and women, we could enjoy different baths on both the day we arrived and the next day, which added to the experience. The food was also delicious. We heard that a group would be staying there and worried it might be noisy, but we were seated in a separate area like a private room, so we could enjoy our meal peacefully and at a relaxed pace. If I may make one request: during the breakfast buffet, it would be very helpful to have small push carts that can hold trays. I imagine there are quite a few guests with weaker legs or backs who would appreciate this as well—though I understand it might get in the way in narrow aisles. Thank you very much for a wonderful one-night stay. We would love to visit again if we have another opportunity.

The view was a bit disappointing.

It was disappointing that the Room with a unit bath had a better view. However, I had no complaints about the large public bath or the meals, and the staff were very considerate, so I had a comfortable stay. Thank you.

Beyond expectations. Great food, great staff, and a clean Accommodation—the three simple essentials.

On my first trip to Toyama (2 nights/3 days), I was wondering where to stay for the other night besides the well-known River Retreat GARAKU. Flying in, I wanted somewhere within an hour by sightseeing taxi, and chose this Accommodation based on IKYU Reviews. I wasn’t fully confident about my choice, but when I asked AI what it thought, it reassured me: “Great food, great staff, and a clean Accommodation—so you’ll be fine.” That was exactly right. It’s in a slightly quiet area with beautiful fresh greenery, and the sound of the river is soothing. The size is just right, and the interior is tasteful and refined—no unnecessary decorations. Nothing feels dated. Everything is spotless and feels wonderful. I also liked that it’s all tatami throughout with no slippers. The shop selection is thoughtful as well. You can tell the chef is highly skilled. They timed each course to our pace perfectly—no waiting at all. The rice from their supplier was truly delicious; after being disappointed elsewhere in Niigata, I learned that Toyama’s water makes a difference, so I bought Toyama rice at the shop to take home. The outdoor sofa area is excellent. The open-air bath is clean and well designed around a small garden courtyard—safe, easy to use, and nicely contained. It made me think the owner must be very smart; everything is well considered. A few minor points: placing suitcase wheels directly on the tatami felt unhygienic to me. There were only two keys, so my mother (the third guest) was upset about not having her own—I would have appreciated an explanation upfront. A few items seemed insufficient for three people. Also, the yukata had no ties, so it came loose easily and wasn’t very comfortable. That said, these were small issues overall—it’s an Accommodation I would happily return to.

I was able to relax in the tatami-mat room.

Stayed one night on a weekday by myself. The entire property is tatami-floored, and the Room I stayed in also had tatami flooring. That alone really changes the mood. I was able to relax a lot. The in-room bath isn’t open-air, but it’s designed so you can unwind comfortably, which was great. Cleanliness was not an issue at all. The service, food, Room, and bath were all highly satisfying—I definitely recommend it. Personally, I appreciated the large desk in the Room, the delicious Rococo beer, and especially the wonderfully chewy rice!

I was very dissatisfied with the phone support before my stay.

We were satisfied with the Onsen and the meals. In particular, the children’s meal felt exceptionally well prepared compared with other Onsen accommodations we have stayed at. There were also no issues with the hospitality or services during our stay. However, we were very disappointed with the phone support regarding the Shuttle Service before our stay. I was looking for an Onsen accommodation that could be reached using public transportation only (with a Shuttle Service provided by the Accommodation). When making our Reservation, I confirmed that the site stated “Shuttle Service available from Shin-Takaoka Station” and “Reservation required at least 2 days in advance,” and I made a Reservation in March for a stay in May. However, four days before our stay (April 30), when I called to request the Shuttle Service from Shin-Takaoka Station, I was told that “if you have a preschool child, you cannot use the Shuttle Service because we do not have child seats.” We have used multiple Onsen accommodations with children before, but we have never been refused a Shuttle Service for that reason. Since there was no such notice at the time of Reservation either, I was very surprised. I said, “If I had known in advance, I would not have made this Reservation,” but throughout the call the response felt cold, and there was no explanation of circumstances or suggestion of alternatives. In addition to being told things like “you’ll have to come by taxi or bus” and “you’ll just need to understand,” there was also a remark implying “this decision was made by management; it wasn’t my decision,” which felt extremely unpleasant as a guest. Later, when I checked their official website, it stated (dated April 27—three days before my call) that “the Shuttle Service will become paid starting May 1” and that “children of applicable ages are not allowed to ride due to lack of child seats.” I understand that complying with laws and regulations is necessary. However, since we had informed them at the time of Reservation that we would be traveling with a child and planned to come from Tokyo by Shinkansen bullet train, if this policy changed shortly beforehand they could have contacted affected guests in advance. At minimum, I wish they had provided a clearer explanation during the call. Because of how poor the phone support felt, honestly it even made me want to Cancel the Reservation altogether. But since departure was close it was difficult to find another Accommodation on short notice—and it was already within a period when a Cancellation Fee would apply—so in the end we took a taxi from Shin-Takaoka Station and also used taxis on our return trip. The Accommodation itself was great overall, which is why it is especially disappointing that our impression of their pre-stay phone support regarding transportation was so negative.

    Senior-friendly Accommodation

I had previously used the bath after a memorial service meal. Friends and relatives who stayed here said it was a great Accommodation, so I wanted to stay at least once. This time, I visited with my elderly mother. They kindly consulted with us in advance about using a rollator walker and a wheelchair. They were very attentive and helpful, including arranging a Room near the elevator and accommodating our parking needs. Also,

    The room with a priv...

The room with a private open-air bath was very comfortable. However, the area around the bath was quite breezy—perfect in summer, but a little cold in March. The meals were delicious and clearly reflected careful study of Kyoto cuisine. Unfortunately, the slightly heavyset female staff member at the front desk at checkout responded rather curtly and without much warmth.

    Toyama Trip

It was a wonderful stay that exceeded our expectations. Since the entire building is covered with tatami mats, you can comfortably walk around barefoot. The open-air bath is also set within the garden, and we thoroughly enjoyed it while gazing at the starry sky. The meals featured an abundance of local seafood, beautifully presented with great care in the tableware, which made us feel truly satisfied. Above all, we were impressed by how naturally and warmly all the staff greeted us. We felt it offered value well beyond the price.

A relaxing bath, delicious meals, and a snowy landscape made for a truly satisfying stay!

Despite concerns about heavy snowfall, this was my first visit to the Shogawa Onsen. The moment I stepped into the Room, the window straight ahead revealed a breathtaking view of snow-covered mountains and the river—I couldn’t help but gasp! The meals were wonderful, and soaking in the Onsen while watching the snow was amazing. One small note: I can’t sleep well in a yukata, so I brought pajamas. If you could provide something like samue loungewear, it would help reduce luggage and would be much appreciated. In any case, I’d love to return to this comfortable Accommodation again.

It was a very lovely accommodation.

We stayed in a room with an open-air Onsen. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable to relax in. The meals were seasonal and absolutely delicious. The large public bath was very spacious, with several open-air Onsen options offering stunning views, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience. However, there was no send-off after check-out, and assistance with loading larger suitcases into the car would have been appreciated.

    I had a pleasant stay.

It was delightful to walk on tatami mats throughout the accommodation after taking off our shoes at the entrance. The tabi socks provided with the yukata were incredibly useful. The baths, including both indoor and open-air options, were very clean with beautiful water. The meals featured plenty of fresh fish from Toyama and were absolutely delicious. Even the rice sparkled beautifully. Since we didn’t use the room’s bath, it was perfect that there wasn’t one included. We also appreciated the free drinks available anytime. This is an accommodation we would love to visit again in a different season!

A delightful public bath experience after a long time

I stayed at this accommodation because I wanted to experience both highly-rated hotels in Shogawa Onsen (I stayed at the other one during winter). The room was compact but convenient with a comfortable bed. The large public bath was truly spacious, especially the open-air bath, which had various options and was very enjoyable. You can admire the vast sky and mountains, and I imagine it would be breathtaking during the autumn foliage season. The meals were incredibly delicious. The portions were slightly large for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed both the fish and meat dishes. The ayu fish and the corn rice served at the end were particularly exceptional. The ayu fish was small but very tasty. The rolled omelet served at breakfast was also absolutely delightful. It’s no surprise that this place has high ratings! Both accommodations are fantastic, and I would love to stay again!

    It was a blissful moment.

It was my first time staying here, and since it was a weekday right after the Obon holiday, there were few guests. I was warmly welcomed, and check-in was done at the café next to the lobby with a welcome drink. The front desk staff were friendly and calm, making me feel very comfortable. The hallways were covered with tatami mats, thoroughly cleaned, and I didn’t notice any dirt even walking barefoot. The room was, of course, impeccably clean as well. The bath allowed me to relax while enjoying views of the mountains and river in the onsen. As for meals, everything I ate was delicious and carefully prepared dish by dish. Since I felt full after dinner, I could take my dessert back to my room to enjoy later. This ryokan had no flaws whatsoever; it’s a place I would love to stay again if I visit this area in the future!

    Tatami Ryokan

In the Ryokan, you can spend time without using footwear, which was highly appreciated by my companions and children. We stay here once every 2–3 years, and this time being a repeat visit, we received special service during dinner. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

    I had a comfortable stay.

We stayed as a family of three and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and the buffet-style breakfast was great as it allowed everyone to adjust their preferences and portions. There were five types of grilled fish, all in enjoyable sizes, which we appreciated. The Onsen was lovely, but having one bath with slightly hotter water would have been even better. The coffee provided in the Room was uniquely packaged like a tea bag. The drink service in the lobby was also excellent.

    Solo Travel

Before the summer holiday rush, I enjoyed a solo trip to Hokuriku and stayed at your accommodation. The onsen was spacious with an open-air bath, making my stay very pleasant. The staff were also very kind and helpful. Here are some points of concern: - At check-in, the staff immediately explained about additional dinner dishes, which felt off-putting. It made me wonder if the standard meal would be insufficient without adding extras. It might be better to present this as part of a plan during the reservation process for a smoother experience. - Breakfast was served buffet-style, but when I went, it seemed like I arrived just after other guests had finished eating; simmered dishes and salads were scattered and not replenished, which dampened my mood. The grilled fish also seemed overcooked from sitting out too long and felt disappointing. While I did see salads being replenished later and fish being freshly grilled on a large central grill during my meal, it may have just been bad timing on my part—but considering the price point, it felt like poor value for money overall. If you continue with buffet-style meals at this price range in the future, more attention should be given to these details. - I used the shuttle service from Shin-Takaoka Station to your accommodation. The ride took about 30 minutes; since regular check-in starts at 3 PM, I assume that's why there’s a 2:30 PM departure time from Shin-Takaoka Station? However, it would be more convenient if you could align shuttle times with train arrival schedules instead—especially since there are limited bullet train or local train services available and no cafes inside the station where one can pass time comfortably while waiting.

    It was excellent.

Visited during a relatively quiet period before the summer vacation. The tatami-floored interior allowed us to move around comfortably without slippers, just with tabi socks. The bath was spacious, and the moments spent in the lounge after bathing or meals were absolutely delightful. The meals were meticulously prepared, not only delicious but also beautifully presented on exquisite tableware, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Would love to revisit during tulip or cherry blossom seasons, as well as in autumn for the foliage. The only downside was that we couldn't adjust the air conditioning in the Room properly.

    Mother-Daughter Trip

It takes 30 minutes from the station to the accommodation, but I am very grateful for the shuttle service. The staff were very attentive, and the seasoning of the dinner was absolutely delicious. I also appreciated the thoughtful touch of having floor heating where you step out of the open-air bath so it wasn’t cold. The entire facility is covered with tatami mats starting from the main entrance, which felt amazing, and everything was impeccably clean. I did think it would be perfect if there was a massage chair in the room—just a luxurious thought! Still, it was an incredibly relaxing and healing accommodation. Thank you very much!

    It was wonderful.

As expected, it was a wonderful accommodation. The tatami was excellent. It felt great. Both breakfast and dinner were very delicious and enjoyable. The quality of the food received high praise. Another highlight was the garden. Every corner was meticulously maintained—truly amazing. It's nice to have a relaxing spot in the garden. The bath was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. All the staff were pleasant as well. Thank you very much! One regret is that the koi fish in the garden pond looked thin and pitiful. I would love to visit this accommodation again!

    Birthday of Sakura

My husband wanted to stay at Accommodation Yumetsuzuri again, and his wish to visit during the cherry blossom season for his birthday came true. We enjoyed a wonderful birthday surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms. The view of Shokawa Sakura and mountain cherry blossoms from our room was soothing, and we could gaze endlessly at the cherry blossoms while in the open-air bath. The meals were gluten-free, allowing us to enjoy them without any worries. Most of the dishes at the breakfast buffet were also gluten-free, which made us feel very cared for and happy. However, there were a couple of disappointments: The bedding—sleeping on futons directly on tatami without mattresses caused slight back pain upon waking up. It would be great if futons suitable for this setup could be provided instead. Another point was that 20 years ago, samue (traditional Japanese loungewear) was available but no longer provided now; we hope they bring it back as it allows for comfortable relaxation without worrying about it becoming untidy. The lounge offered welcome drinks and free beverages, making our stay even more relaxing. Thank you very much! If given another opportunity, we would love to revisit this accommodation again!

Delicious meals for both breakfast and dinner!

Dinner featured a variety of fresh seafood, including grilled sweetfish, and was absolutely delicious. The Japanese-style breakfast offered a wide selection, all rich in flavor and equally delightful. The large public bath, including the open-air bath, provided an incredibly relaxing experience. The hospitality was warm and pleasant, making it easy to understand why this accommodation receives high ratings. The only downside was the lack of an electric kettle or beverages in the room, which was quite disappointing. While drinks were available in the lobby, it would have been nice to enjoy them in the room as well.

We had a relaxing time with my mother and daughter.

This accommodation is mostly visited by local guests, making it a quiet and relaxing place to stay. I appreciated how you checked my food preferences based on previous information. The dishes were delicately seasoned, highlighting the ingredients' natural flavors, and the variety of shapes and colors of the tableware made dining enjoyable. For breakfast, I was treated to glossy local rice and various types of dried fish grilled over charcoal, which felt like a luxurious start to the day. The teamwork among the staff is excellent! Information was well-shared among them, and they kindly interacted with me. Perhaps due to its rural location, there were a few staff members in the lobby or lounge who seemed expressionless or blunt. However, other staff members warmly covered for them with cheerful words. I found this aspect charming as well. In front of the property flows the Shogawa River; its gentle murmuring still lingers in my ears. The scenery with fresh greenery was stunning. The garden is also well-maintained and beautiful. I left feeling enriched at heart. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much!

    Comfortable

I have visited many times and always enjoy my stay. I love that you can walk around freely in bare feet or socks without needing slippers inside the facility. The meals are incredibly delicious, and I never get tired of them no matter how many times I visit. The Onsen water is slightly lukewarm, which is perfect for me as I prefer it that way, allowing me to relax and soak comfortably. All the staff members are kind and gentle, providing thoughtful service without being overbearing, which I truly appreciate. Since it’s close to my family home, I look forward to visiting again with my mother in the future!
