    Your First Stay in Kyoto with ANA

    This time I stayed here on a business trip. I had been wanting to stay at this Hotel, so it was a great opportunity. The lobby was spacious, quiet, and relaxing, and the service was pleasant. I stayed in a renovated Room on the top floor. It had a great atmosphere and was very comfortable, so I enjoyed spending the evening in the Room instead of going out for a walk. Although it is a unit bath, the bathtub was spacious and the sink area was wide and easy to use. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and you can take your time. They even provided a coffee pot at the table, which was excellent. The chef-made omelet needs no comment, but I was surprised by how delicious the shumai were. I drove for this business trip, and guests can use the underground parking for free—this service was also great. It’s a Hotel that made me want to come back for leisure next time and enjoy a Multiple Night Stay at my own pace.

    Gozan Okuribi (Kyoto Bonfire Festival)

    For many years, I had dreamed of seeing the Gozan Okuribi, and as soon as I found this Plan at the Hotel, I made a Reservation right away. Perhaps because I booked early, the Plan details were not posted on the website or elsewhere, so it was hard to picture what it would be like. I called to ask directly, but even then the explanation was unclear. I would appreciate it if clear information about what the Plan includes could be provided from the time it is released so that any staff member can answer questions. (Also, one person at reception was not very friendly, which honestly left me with a slightly negative impression.) As for the Gozan Okuribi itself, Daimonji was especially easy to see. (The other characters varied in distance and visibility, but we still enjoyed them.) The room, bath area, and facilities were clean and well maintained, making our stay comfortable. Nijo Castle is also nearby, so we were able to take a relaxing morning walk there as well.

    There is an issue with the software.

    I stayed in the 8th-floor penthouse with a Plan that included access to the rooftop to watch the Gozan Okuribi. At check-in, I was only given a single leaflet and received no detailed guidance, so I ended up going back and forth and felt lost. For guests staying on the 8th floor who have rooftop access, I think there should have been different support. Also, I was told that because there are many guests, they couldn’t say whether I would be able to pick up my delivered package. It may have been a matter of how it was communicated, but this was the first time I’ve ever been spoken to like that at a Hotel. I understand you were busy handling group tour guests. However, I would like you to consider how you treat individual guests who chose your Hotel. Even though I stayed on an expensive Plan, there were many careless responses, and I was disappointed.

    This is the best Hotel!!

    My daughter-in-law’s parents live near Nijo Castle, and we stayed here to coincide with her second homecoming childbirth. Parking was free, and although there was a minor issue in the Room, it was handled promptly. The free shuttle bus to Kyoto Station was also very convenient. I’ve stayed overnight in Kyoto many times, and I truly feel we should have used this place much sooner. The area in front of the banquet hall on the second floor was spacious as well, and even though it was scorching hot outside, we were able to relax and play with our two-year-old first grandchild—making this a stay we are deeply grateful for.

    The Room was spaciou...

    The Room was spacious, and the view of Nijo Castle from the window was wonderful, making for a very pleasant stay. However, I felt the bathroom floor was a bit too slippery and difficult to use. Also, IKYU stated: “You may use the exclusive 8th-floor lounge [Top Floor Lounge]. Hours: 15:00–20:00. Soft drinks, alcohol, snacks, etc. are available. *Please note that it may be unavailable depending on the COVID-19 situation.” But when I asked at the front desk, I was told “There is no such lounge”—not that it is temporarily closed. Since there is no mention of it anywhere in the in-room information booklet either, it seems IKYU’s website is incorrect. If this is not considered important enough to correct, that is extremely disappointing.

    Please provide an unobstructed view of Nijo Castle without any decorative lights.

    I had been dreaming of a plan to enjoy the Nijo Castle view for years. Finally, the timing worked out, and I was able to stay. However, the view from the smaller-than-expected window was obstructed by decorative lights! It was shocking. From outside, it seems there are rooms without these lights crossing the view. Some of them were lit up, but others appeared broken and were not illuminated. The bathroom lacked curtains, so I had to be careful about water splashing everywhere. As for amenities, I feel it would be more convenient if guests could choose only what they truly need themselves. The coffee at breakfast was surprisingly bad. The staff seemed unprofessional or inadequately trained overall; that was my impression. I wanted to write something positive about this accommodation, but unfortunately, I couldn't find anything worth mentioning.

    A charming and historic Hotel near Nijo Castle.

    Stayed for the Nijo Castle light-up event. Convenient location right by the subway station with parking available, which is a great bonus. Parking before and after check-in can also be arranged upon consultation, which is very helpful. Within walking distance, there are various dining options for both morning and evening meals, including Kyoto-style breakfast spots, Japanese restaurants, hot dog stands, and pizza places. The renovated room was comfortable with a cozy table by the window that was perfect for writing or dining. Having a bathtub was also a plus—buying bath salts from the nearby convenience store made it feel like an Onsen experience. Although there was an issue with the room facility at night during my stay, the staff responded kindly and attentively, showcasing excellent hospitality from the hotel. With rising hotel prices in Kyoto, this accommodation offers fair pricing along with comfort and convenience—a truly appreciated option!

    Satisfied.

    Overall, I was very satisfied. The breakfast was especially delicious, and the Room was very clean. The only downside might be that the bathroom could have used a washing area (though it may not be necessary for foreign guests).

    Nijo Castle was very beautiful.

    It was a pity that we couldn't visit Nijo Castle at night due to the heavy rain, but the view of Nijo Castle from the Room was very magical and beautiful. The Room had a Japanese-style design, offering a calm atmosphere and thoughtful functionality. Due to the rain, we had to dine inside the facility unexpectedly, but with limited options available, it felt slightly disappointing. We hope to visit again on a sunny day. Thank you very much!

    Elegant dance performances by Geiko and Maiko, Gozan Okuribi fire festival, and accommodation.

    The elegant dance of the Geisha and Maiko and the Gozan no Okuribi were exactly as imagined, leaving us satisfied. Afterwards, we had an Accommodation Reservation, so we returned to our Room to rest. It was very comfortable and enjoyable.

    Despite being in the city center, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, making it very comfortable to stay. The breakfast was served in a calm setting, tasted great, and was very enjoyable. The front desk staff provided polite and composed service, which gave a sense of reassurance.

    It would be apprecia...

    It would be appreciated if instructions on how to use the bathroom shower could be provided. It would be helpful to indicate that the showerhead is adjustable, that the temperature changes depending on how the faucet is turned, and to display the optimal temperature range if possible. Since the bathtub is made of a very slippery material, it might be a good idea to provide an anti-slip mat in the bath area. The Room was a comfortable and relaxing space.

    The stability of this long-established inn is outstanding!

    I stayed after the New Year holidays. This is a traditional old-established hotel with outstanding stability. The staff's response was pleasant, and I was able to spend a relaxing time. Overall, the aging of the facility is undeniable, but I feel it is within an acceptable range. However, when I used the pool and bath in the basement, I was very concerned about the gym and pool members? chatting with each other and brushing their teeth while in the bath. I think it should be made clear to the members that it is a hotel first before being a gym.

    The room smells like tobacco.

    I reserved a renovated non-smoking room, but as soon as I entered the room, there was a strong smell of tobacco. It wasn't at the level of a room previously used as a smoking room, but rather at the level of a room recently used by a smoker. It's disappointing that such a room was assigned without any explanation, as it's impossible not to notice the smell during cleaning. Additionally, the roller blinds were covered with dew, and when operated, a large amount of water flowed down. Moreover, the breakfast venue was small for the hotel's capacity, and we had to wait for quite a long time. The staff's service was also businesslike, and I didn't feel any hospitality that would make me want to return. As it is a large hotel catering to group guests and inbound tourists, the recent labor shortage might be affecting the service. There were many disappointing aspects, and I will not be visiting again.

    The renovated room was comfortable.

    I stayed with my daughter. The room was a twin room on the 7th floor, and it seemed to have been renovated, as it had a lovely design. There was a wide sofa facing a table arranged like a café by the window, allowing us to relax until bedtime. The bath and toilet were separate, and both were thoroughly cleaned, which left a good impression. Since we were staying the night before my daughter's swimming competition, we checked out before 6 a.m., but we were seen off with a smile. If we have the chance, we would like to use this place again. The only downside was the pool we used, which showed signs of aging, but other than that, we were satisfied.

    Great location near Nijo Castle, highly recommended for those with a private car!

    The spacious parking lot is good. The breakfast buffet style was good in terms of both content and location.
