    The meals are delicious.

    I stayed on a Plan with dinner included. Dinner was served in the large hall, but I was able to enjoy it slowly in a quiet area. The service was excellent, and the staff clearly explained each dish. The seared bonito was straw-grilled, and it was great to be able to watch it up close. Breakfast also had a wide variety of options, and I couldn’t finish everything. It was a very good Ryokan and Hotel.

    Facility and service were excellent.

    The stay included breakfast for one night, and everything was satisfactory. Both the Facility and staff manners were excellent. I would like to stay again. It was nice that the searchlights illuminated Kochi Castle even after the light-up ended, as seen from the large bath's lounge area.

    The chef's dishes are incredibly delicious.

    I have visited many Ryokans, but the taste of the cuisine here was the best I have ever experienced. However, one disappointing point was the massage chairs on the floor with the baths. If there were a display showing how many minutes are left, it would be easier to wait. Some people occupy them continuously after finishing or even fall asleep after use. I hope this issue can be improved.

    We stayed here for a family trip. As mentioned in the reviews, the staff's hospitality was excellent and very comforting. Although we initially chose a smaller room and were worried if it would be okay, they kindly upgraded us to a larger room where six of us could relax comfortably. During dinner, when our child didn’t eat much, we asked if it would be possible to have rice balls in the room later, and they gladly accommodated our request. Thank you so much for everything! This is an accommodation where elderly travelers or families with children can stay with peace of mind.

    A Long-Established Hotel in Kochi

    A long-established Ryokan in Kochi City, also frequented by the Imperial Family. The room was upgraded to a spacious and high-quality one as it was available, leaving a great impression. The meals were plentiful, though too much for an elderly couple, so we requested to skip the last two dishes. While we were very satisfied during our stay, it was disappointing when we asked for an additional hour for my elderly wife to use the room and were told curtly that it would cost 9,500 yen per hour.

    Overall, I think this is an excellent accommodation. It stands out in many small details compared to others. For example: - Breakfast buffet cart - Proper hand towels - Scheduled sauna löyly sessions - Free massage chairs - Live straw-grilling demonstration and so on.

    Good.

    The staff were all very pleasant, making the stay comfortable. The bath Facility was excellent, and I was satisfied to use it during less crowded times, though some guests with poor manners were noticeable. I couldn't finish the meal as the portion was too much for me. The view of Kochi Castle from the window and the serene Japanese-style room allowed for a relaxing stay. The convenient streetcar access made for an enjoyable trip.

    Would love to stay again.

    Traveling by tram was a delightful and nostalgic experience. Additionally, the bicycle rental service at the hotel was very convenient for visiting Kochi Castle and public facilities. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious options. I wish I had the chance to try the dinner as well. The bath was relaxing, and the changing rooms and powder rooms were impeccably clean, making it a pleasant experience. Enjoying yuzu tea while gazing at the castle after a bath was especially delightful. I will definitely choose this hotel again when I visit Kochi.

    The food was delicious, and it was great to watch the straw-grilling right in front of us. The Room had a great view, allowing us to relax comfortably. The view from the large public bath was also wonderful, making for a pleasant experience. We were also given recommendations for sightseeing spots, which made our trip even more enjoyable.

    Traveling with a 3-Year-Old

    It was a comfortable accommodation. The parking guidance and check-in process were smooth, thanks to the multiple staff members available. Everyone was friendly and left a good impression. The room attendant, in particular, stood out with their kindness, even during busy times. They were attentive to our child and thoughtfully recommended family-friendly tourist facilities. In the room, they provided a small chair, slippers, and cutlery for children—all featuring Anpanman designs—which delighted our child. For dinner, we were kindly allowed to have it served in our room. This made it easier as we didn’t have to worry about our child walking around. It had been a while since we could enjoy such a relaxed meal. Every dish was delicious. We also enjoyed watching the live demonstration of straw-grilled bonito at the workshop with our child. The announcement just before it started was very helpful. The breakfast buffet featured various local specialties from Kochi Prefecture like "Hat Pan." The corn from Kibi Kaido was so delicious that we ended up buying some after breakfast! It was great to try small portions of many different Kochi delicacies. Having tray carts available at the accommodation made it convenient for selecting food while holding a child in my arms. The timing for refilling food and clearing empty plates was excellent as well. At the post-bath lounge area, there were free drinks including barley tea that children could also enjoy. Additionally, there was an interesting feature where pressing a button lit up Kochi Castle—a fun touch! It’s an excellent accommodation where both children and adults can feel comfortable staying. We would love to stay here again when visiting Kochi!

    Choose your Room carefully.

    This was my first stay at this accommodation. I was torn between the Senju and the renovated room but chose the Senju High-Grade room. Unfortunately, there were stains on part of the wall and some wear and tear on a section of the toilet wall. It was very disappointing, especially since I opted for a high-grade room. If you prefer stylish and clean rooms, I would not recommend choosing Senju.

    Seared bonito is the best.

    The Facility and equipment were a bit outdated, which was slightly disappointing, but the staff's hospitality was excellent, making the stay very pleasant. The meals were creatively prepared with local touches and were very delicious.

    The service was excellent. I felt confident and comfortable using it.

    Stayed in a Superior Twin Western-style Room for a solo trip. The staff's attentiveness, from guiding at the parking lot to assisting with check-in and carrying luggage to the room, was excellent. Many accommodations no longer offer luggage assistance these days, so this left a positive impression. Used the large public bath and jacuzzi open-air bath. It seemed to be during a quiet time, allowing for a relaxing experience. The facilities were clean and had all the basic amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Dinner was served at the counter with warm hospitality from the chef, who engaged in friendly conversation—this added to an enjoyable dining experience. The Western-style room was clean and without issues; however, it might have been more relaxing if it were designed for walking barefoot comfortably. As an accommodation with historical significance, I could see considerable effort put into renovating its older structure while maintaining its charm.

    A long-established Ryokan well-known to all residents of Kochi Prefecture.

    I stayed for about two weeks due to my mother's illness, which required tests and surgery. While we stayed at another hotel in Kochi, we found a great plan here without dinner included. Since we dine out for dinner, we enjoyed a luxurious time with the large bath and breakfast provided. My mother especially loved the large public bath, and recently we've been staying here exclusively. After her discharge from surgery, she still experienced pain, so we borrowed a wheelchair and extended our stay by three days. Upon explaining our situation, they kindly allowed us to stay in the same Western-style room without having to move rooms, making it comfortable even for me with limited mobility. Josai-kan is such a renowned ryokan in Kochi that people are often surprised when I mention staying there. It has an image of being a high-end ryokan with in-room dining for guests from outside the prefecture, but I was delighted to stay under an affordable plan. I would love to stay again!

    I always stay here whenever I visit Kochi. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the Onsen allows for a relaxing experience. The breakfast is also excellent. The hotel staff are all polite, making the stay very comfortable. Although it is a bit far from the downtown area, it is quiet and peaceful as a result.

    I had high expectations.

    The room was clean and well-maintained, and the live demonstration of straw-grilled bonito was enjoyable. However, there were a few concerns that I would like to share in this review. We arrived by rental car, but there was no valet service upon arrival. While staff provided instructions for parking in the multi-story garage, it felt uncomfortable rather than helpful. I understand this might be to avoid risks such as damaging the car, but it would be nice to have the option of having ryokan staff park the car instead. The provided towels were thin ones typical of traditional onsen ryokans. It would have been better if they were thicker and softer. Since there were plenty of amenities and we enjoyed the bath facilities, this aspect felt particularly disappointing. Dinner had generous portions but was neither particularly impressive nor disappointing in terms of taste or variety. For breakfast, it would have been nice to have an option for a Japanese set meal in a separate venue for a quieter dining experience instead of just a buffet. I appreciated that yukata sizes matched our heights perfectly. If pajamas had also been available, it would have been even better. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay; however, perhaps our expectations were too high given that this is an established ryokan known for serving members of the Imperial Family.

    Unmatched "Tosa Bold Style"

    The "Tosa Dynamic Style - Grilled Bonito Head" from the Katsuo Full-Course Meal was truly impressive. As a big fan of bonito, I had never experienced such exquisite flavor before, and I was overwhelmed by its depth and richness. It is delicious on its own, but adding condiments like grated daikon with soy sauce, green onion mustard miso, or citrus vinegar brought delightful variations to the taste. I highly recommend the "Tosa Dynamic Style" at Hotel Jouseikan to all bonito lovers across the whole country. The name of Japanese cuisine head chef Masatoki Matsumoto has become unforgettable for me. Another must-try at Hotel Jouseikan is their breakfast buffet. It's like a festival celebrating Kochi's culinary richness with dishes such as tea leaf tempura, simmered bonito scraps, fried eggplant in broth, and bamboo shoots cooked Tosa-style. To finish off your meal, don't miss the sweet potato brûlée—it’s so delicious that I ended up having three this year! My apologies! This hotel overflows with hospitality and offers both happiness and culinary delight. Highly recommended!

    It was extremely comfortable. The staff's attentiveness was excellent, and the Room itself was perfectly cozy. Even small touches like having ice water set up in the Room added to the comfort. Watching Kochi Castle while sipping yuzu drink at the relaxation area after a bath was simply wonderful! The Ryokan had a traditional charm without being overly extravagant, embodying the image of an old-established inn. It seemed to be loved by locals for weddings and family celebrations. The dinner was especially delicious, with plenty of fresh sashimi that left us completely satisfied. The course flow was well thought out, making me want to revisit just for this dinner alone!

    Room soundproofing needs improvement.

    It may depend on the room. The Room was spacious and comfortable, which I appreciated. The adjustable indirect lighting made the nights pleasant. However, despite having double windows, I could still hear the sound of cars passing on the street outside even with the windows fully closed. There was also a sound throughout the night that resembled heavy rain—possibly from water running through a downspout pipe—which gave an impression of insufficient soundproofing. I did not use the bathroom in my room, but in the public bath area, while it was nice to see ReFa showerheads installed, I felt that the water pressure was very weak.

    We had a comfortable and pleasant time.

    This was my first trip to Kochi, and I’m so glad I chose this Hotel! The highlight was watching the bonito straw-grilling show and tasting the incredibly delicious bonito tataki. Just having this dish made me feel it was worth coming to Kochi! The Room was comfortable, and all the staff were kind and welcoming. I would love to stay at this Hotel again if I have another chance. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

    A long-established Ryokan in Kochi

    If you're looking for a slightly upscale accommodation in Kochi, this would likely be one of your top choices. Conveniently located near Kochi Castle and right in front of a tram stop, it's perfect for sightseeing. The service is impeccable, and the facility is kept exceptionally clean. The large public bath on the top floor is fantastic. Dinner was delicious (though the choice of tableware and presentation could use some improvement for a ryokan of this class). Breakfast was satisfactory in terms of content; however, it was served in what seemed to be a large banquet hall used for wedding receptions with small tables set up, which made the atmosphere less relaxing than expected.

    Accommodation Josai-kan, a place I have always wanted to stay at least once.

    After check-in, I was told that the staff would assist me, but no one was there, so I entered the Room by myself. I wondered if this was normal. There was no particular guidance or send-off after check-out either. I wondered if this was normal. The food was very delicious, and the staff greeted me properly and provided good service, which made me satisfied. I found it inconvenient that there were no stairs to the large public bath, only an elevator.

    The building and Facility may be old, but I was impressed by the meticulous cleaning that made it unnoticeable. The breakfast buffet offered many dishes made with local specialties and was very delicious. It was also rare to see a ReFa shower head used in the large public bath. The staff's service was excellent, making it a pleasant Hotel to stay at. I would like to stay again in a different season.

    Very satisfied.

    We stayed here for our first trip to Kochi as a family of five. We were offered an upgrade due to a Room becoming available, and when we entered the Room, the whole family was thrilled with the spacious and beautiful Room. Thank you very much. The Onsen was also clean, with a sauna and outdoor bath, which made us very satisfied. The meals, of course, were very delicious and impressive. When we asked the staff serving us about sightseeing spots, they responded very kindly. The staff at the front desk also kindly guided us to places to buy souvenirs, making this Property perfect in every way. We would love to stay here again.
