    Hmm—I'm not sure.

I’d been wanting to stay at this Accommodation for a long time. The staff were very kind and courteous, which left a great impression. However, I didn’t really understand the French dinner—what were they trying to serve? The flavors were heavy and overly salty. It’s about a 200 m walk outdoors from the Room to the dining area. The steps along the way are dark. The Room’s dimmer also had an issue and kept flickering. On the plus side, the temperature control of the private open-air bath attached to the Room was perfect—but that was about it. The amenities were well stocked. The meals need reconsideration.

The perfect relaxing getaway for couples.

We stayed in “Yamabuki 301” for a refreshing getaway as a couple. Although we arrived a little earlier than planned due to our own circumstances, the staff welcomed us warmly and graciously, which truly impressed us. What stood out most during our stay was the outstanding dining experience. The French dinner was delicate and beautifully presented—something to enjoy with all five senses—and we savored it to the fullest along with the wine pairing. Even after returning to our Room, we found ourselves talking together about the lingering impressions of the meal. The Japanese breakfast was also wonderful: rice, soup, and grilled fish were served at their best—perfectly warm and delicious—and we felt genuine hospitality in every detail. We would have loved it if items like the miso and nori tsukudani served at breakfast were available for purchase at the shop. One reason we chose this Room was its water garden, and it was truly soothing. In particular, the atmosphere of the in-room bath and its perfectly balanced water temperature were exceptional—it melted away all our everyday fatigue. The spa we enjoyed as a couple was also an excellent relaxation experience from start to finish, thanks to attentive service and skilled all-hand treatments. (It would be even better if there were options such as massage Plans focused on deep tissue or loosening tight muscles.) If there is one small point: since it was an extremely hot day when we visited, we wished the refrigerator in our Room cooled a bit more strongly. However, overall satisfaction far exceeded that minor concern—this was a truly wonderful Accommodation. Next time, we’d love to visit in another season to enjoy the changing scenery; in summer, perhaps choose a villa with a pool; and while the French cuisine goes without saying, we’d also like to try Japanese dinner during a Multiple Night Stay. We’re grateful to have found an Accommodation that makes us want to return again. Thank you very much.

    The Facility feature...

The Facility features a distinctive, beautiful garden. The Room feels open and spacious, offering an enjoyable sense of being in a different world. Everyone was friendly and easy to talk to, which was nice; however, during the meal, the food was served with one hand, and there were remarks that made me question what I heard—such as asking whether we could be on time—so it left me feeling uncomfortable.

    It was a luxurious experience.

A long-held wish came true, and I stayed with my pet at a villa I’d been curious about for some time. The open-air bath, water feature, and bed—everything made me feel truly pampered. The illuminated view at night was especially beautiful. The open-air bath in the Room was spacious, and I wanted to soak in it again and again. It was a wonderful Onsen, and I had a rich, relaxing time. For dinner, I enjoyed authentic French cuisine for the first time in a while. Great care was taken with the tableware and presentation, and every dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The vegetables, eel, splendid alfonsino, and venison were all outstanding. For breakfast I chose Japanese cuisine; it was also carefully prepared and delicious, especially the dried horse mackerel. There was an issue with a Room Facility, but it was handled promptly, and the next day the general manager also greeted me. It truly felt like a luxurious stay overall. Since this is a pet-friendly Room it may be unavoidable, but I did notice some areas where cleaning could have been better. This may be an overly bold request, but it would be perfect if guests could bring their dogs to meals as well (for example on a cart). Because meal times are long, I worried about leaving my dog alone in the Room. Overall it was a luxurious and fulfilling stay. Thank you very much.

    I have a small concern.

I’m a repeat guest because I love the on-site French restaurant, the Rooms, and the hospitality. Assuming I will continue staying with you, I have two requests. 1) Since the large public bath is no longer available, I use the garden open-air baths. However, of the two garden open-air baths, Aoi has no roof at all, so in severe weather like last weekend (June 20, 2026) it can be difficult. I would appreciate it if there were even a partially rain-sheltered area or umbrellas available to use (the washing area is covered). 2) Perhaps because it is foreign-owned, I sometimes encounter overseas tour groups and cannot enjoy meals in a quiet atmosphere. This isn’t your Accommodation’s fault, though.

An Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again

This was our first stay here. The in-room Onsen was wonderful, but the French dinner in particular exceeded all expectations—each dish reflected the chef’s passion and reminded us of the depth of cuisine. At checkout, everyone came out to see us off, and we were moved until the very end. This time we stayed in the East Wing, so next time we would like to stay in a villa.

    Outstanding meals

The meals were exceptionally delicious. However, I would like to see a bit more effort put into the desserts. I also wished there had been coffee after dinner. They accommodated my dietary dislikes and changed the menu to something wonderful—I’ve never had food this delicious before. It also left a great impression that the head chef came to greet us. That said, while the guest room has its charm despite its age, I was concerned about areas such as parts of the wood that seemed rotten. If possible, I would be even happier if the yukata were a bit more colorful as well.

Enjoy the feeling of staying at a private villa.

I chose the Japanese-style breakfast, but after the excellent Western-style dinner the day before, it felt a little underwhelming. Other than that, I was very satisfied with this Accommodation.

    Wonderful travel memories

About 30 years ago, when I was single, my family stayed here, and I still vaguely remember it as a luxurious time. This time, we chose it to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday and our son’s new job. The Room was spacious enough for three of us to relax comfortably, and the garden was beautifully maintained. The open-air bath was quiet with wonderful water, and it soothed our fatigue from the traffic. Dinner was French cuisine; each dish was very stylish yet gently flavored, and the staff carefully explained the ingredients. We had no complaints about any of the other services or amenities. The understated hospitality was truly moving. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

We were very satisfied with the courteous service and the delicious meals—thank you very much. We would definitely like to stay again, and next time we may try Japanese cuisine. Since we stayed in a Room with a pool, we are wondering what season would be best for our next visit.

    I usually don't writ...

I usually don't write reviews like this, but the experience was so terrible that I feel compelled to share it for future reference. This was our second stay at this accommodation. On our first visit, we stayed in a villa with a pool because our children wanted to play in the pool. Upon arrival at the ryokan, we discovered that due to an error on our part, the room we reserved did not have a pool. We asked if it was possible to upgrade to a room with a pool and were told that only the most expensive maisonette-type villa with a pool was available for an additional fee of just under 170,000 yen. Although it seemed expensive, we decided to upgrade since our children were looking forward to playing in the pool and were assured that the room would be ready by 5 PM so they could enjoy swimming before dinner. However, there was no communication about moving rooms until we contacted them ourselves. After finally moving rooms and attempting to use the pool with our children, we found that it was far too cold. When we inquired about this issue, they informed us that it would take approximately five hours for the water temperature to become warm enough for use. Despite paying extra fees and being promised by 5 PM readiness specifically so our kids could enjoy swimming before dinner, the water didn’t reach an acceptable temperature until around 10 PM—this lack of explanation is unacceptable. Our children still wanted desperately to swim and ended up playing in freezing water despite their discomfort; as expected from such exposure overnight one child fell ill next morning (though admittedly responsibility lies partially upon ourselves). When requesting special arrangements regarding breakfast given circumstances surrounding sick child staff curtly declined outright without offering alternatives whatsoever leaving impression lacking empathy altogether throughout entire stay overall operations/service quality failed meet expectations associated high-end ryokans previously visited elsewhere across Japan especially considering total cost nearly ¥450k including upgrades ultimately felt unjustified disappointing experience sincerely hope management addresses shortcomings prevent recurrence affecting future guests similarly negatively impacted experiences

    The Excellence of Dining

The meals were excellent. The bath was, of course, wonderful as well, but it is disappointing to see some tourists and even Japanese guests entering the bath without washing their bodies first despite the amazing quality of the water. Since this is such a wonderful accommodation, I hope proper manners can be encouraged. Otherwise... it might just become a ryokan known only for its excellent cuisine.

    A bit disappointing

I hope for future improvements and would like to share my comments. Regarding parking, there was no one at the entrance to assist, and even after unloading luggage and waiting for a while, no one came. The parking location was unclear, which left me feeling uneasy. Eventually, I was guided late, but there was inconsistency in whether check-in should be done at the front desk or in the room. Upon being shown to the room and waiting there, it took a long time for staff to arrive. The TV in the room was small as well. On a positive note, the room was very well-maintained and clean—extremely satisfying. The semi-open-air bath in the room and private Onsen were also very clean with excellent water quality. Meals were Japanese-style with elaborate dishes both at night and in the morning—very satisfying as well. However, frequent visits by serving staff made it hard to relax during meals. The unlimited Häagen-Dazs ice cream offering was appealing! There were also various types of alcohol available; however, I couldn’t find any vending machines, and the selection at the shop felt lacking. I stayed in a main building room but wonder if villa-type accommodations might offer something different? While I appreciated how well-maintained everything was along with great food and Onsen quality—the overall experience didn’t quite match up to expectations given that we paid nearly 200,000 yen; those "uneasy points" stood out more because of this price point.

Birthday celebration for a family of three

My 93-year-old mother has difficulty walking, so moving around in a wheelchair was challenging, but the very kind staff were a great help. There are stairs at the entrance and to the dining area, which can be inconvenient for elderly guests with mobility issues. The French restaurant also required going outside, which was a bit difficult, but once inside, the atmosphere was wonderful. The consomme soup made from wild boar bones, served first, was delicious, and adding sake for a flavor change was enjoyable. Both the venison and wild boar were tender and free of any gamey taste, so even my mother could enjoy them. It was nice to see the chef at the end of the meal. The Room had a beautiful garden view, providing a relaxing atmosphere. In the morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and an unfamiliar sound, which turned out to be a squirrel. Next time, I’d like to stay in a villa. I’m looking forward to the opening of the large public bath and would love to visit again.

    It was a great accommodation.

The room, meals, bath, and hospitality were all equally satisfying at this accommodation. Access was convenient as the shuttle service from the train station took only about 10 minutes. It was the most relaxing accommodation I’ve visited recently. I would love to visit this accommodation again.

    I felt luxurious.

We stayed at this accommodation again because my wife and children, who had stayed here before during a trip to Izu, wanted to return. This time, we tried the French dinner for the first time. The portions were just right, the food was delicious, and the wine pairing was excellent. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the large public bath due to construction work, which disappointed our whole family. Our child remembered getting ice cream from the vending machine from when they were very young. After bathing, we enjoyed it together as a family, which made our child very happy. Thanks to this accommodation, we had a wonderful holiday weekend. Thank you very much!

There was a lack of consistency throughout the service.

I stayed at the villa, but walking to the main building for each meal felt inconvenient. While dinner was excellent, the breakfast rice cooked in a pot had a sticky texture like glutinous rice, and the seasoning was somewhat lacking, creating a noticeable gap in quality between dinner and breakfast. At this accommodation, drinks in the room, including alcohol, are complimentary, and ice from the vending machine in the main building is free. However, drinks during meals are charged—especially Japanese sake being quite expensive—and since there is no freezer function in the room's refrigerator, I couldn't bring ice cream back to my room. It seems that as more villas are being added to this facility, services have not been fully standardized yet. Additionally, since there is a bath in the room, it would be nice if extra towels were provided.

    Comfortable hospitality

The building has a historical charm, but it was well-cleaned and I had no issues relaxing. Dinner was French cuisine, which was incredibly delicious with beautiful presentation, and I was especially impressed knowing that a young chef prepared it. For breakfast, I enjoyed Japanese cuisine served by a woman in traditional attire whose hospitality made the experience truly pleasant. One suggestion for improvement would be to provide casual clothing options in addition to the yukata for more comfortable lounging.

It exceeded my expectations and was wonderful.

We stopped by during a motorcycle touring trip as a couple. Although the weather was unstable, the Villa we stayed in had parking right in front of the room, which was very convenient for unloading. The staff kindly carried our luggage, checked us in directly at the room, and even served us matcha tea. The room was spacious and impeccably clean. Despite its size, it was very functional. The garden featured a water basin and beautifully maintained trees. Soaking in the open-air bath while admiring the garden helped relieve our fatigue from touring. For dinner, we enjoyed a locally sourced French course meal at Yamamomo within the premises. The wine pairing came with detailed explanations, and both the food and service were exceptional. We also had an enjoyable time chatting about motorcycles with one of the staff members. Breakfast was served at the main building where we chose between freshly cooked rice or porridge alongside sashimi, dried fish, and other dishes—all of which we finished completely. Upon departure, they even gave us souvenirs to take home. We had another lively conversation about motorcycles with one of their bike-loving staff members before leaving reluctantly. The staff waved goodbye until we were out of sight—filling both our hearts and stomachs to capacity. This accommodation truly exemplifies outstanding hospitality. We would love to visit again someday. Thank you so much!

    A Wonderful Space

The amenities, facilities, and everything else were thoughtfully designed and excellent. There was no front desk service, but the meals were delightful, especially the rice, which was so delicious they even made rice balls for us. The only downside was that there was no large public bath as shown in the photos, which was disappointing.

    The bath was excellent.

We stayed for one night to celebrate our shared birthday month. It was my first visit, while my husband had stayed here over 20 years ago during a company trip. Despite the years, it was a beautifully maintained and charming accommodation. The room featured floor-to-ceiling glass windows, offering views of yamamomo trees with several squirrels—such a relaxing sight. This scenery felt incredibly luxurious and delightful. We usually stay in the Yugawara, Hakone, or Izu areas, but I think this place had the best garden bath we've experienced. Surrounded by trees, I happened to have the large bath all to myself—it was so amazing that I didn’t want to leave! The public bath was also empty when I used it, making for an incredibly indulgent experience. The amenities here were also the best I've encountered; using fragrant Bulgari products really lifted my spirits. The meals were impeccable and served at just the right timing—not too much or too little food—perfect for enjoying with drinks. My husband especially enjoyed having fresh squid (aori-ika) in the morning; it made him very happy. If there’s anything to mention as a downside: upon arrival we were shown directly to our room but no help was offered with carrying luggage. Additionally, we never figured out who exactly was the manager or hostess throughout our stay—a bit disappointing. Even so, both of us would love to return again someday! Next time we’d like to try staying on the first floor.

It was a great trip full of bath and gourmet experiences.

There are six types of Onsen, and I enjoyed a variety of baths, including the Onsen in the Room. It was also nice that it was not crowded whenever we went. We had Japanese cuisine for our meals, and the depth of flavor in the dashi and the freshness of the local fish were particularly exquisite. We were blessed with good weather, and it was nice to see Izu Oshima and Toshima during a morning walk nearby. In the Room, we enjoyed drinks from the all-inclusive menu while relaxing on a sunken kotatsu or reclining chair!

    New Year's Stay

It was my first time staying from the beginning of the year. I booked the same villa as last time (Obon period). The pool and sauna are outside the room, but since it was warm this year and the pool temperature was high, I was able to use them comfortably without any problems. I think the sauna in the large public bath with the stone bath was better. It was fully booked during the busy season, but the large public bath was in a private state. For meals, I chose Japanese food for dinner on both days. It felt like high-quality and local ingredients were creatively prepared, and it was very delicious and enjoyable. The food is exceptionally delicious. Different dishes are served each time, so a multiple night stay is not a problem. As with last time, I was pleased that the head chef came to greet us despite being busy. For breakfast, I had Western food at a separate building's restaurant, starting with champagne, followed by soup, chicken salad, eggs benedict, and elaborate desserts from the morning. It was a satisfying breakfast. Regarding the room, it was a villa, but it was very warm and there were no problems. The amenities are also abundantly available. There was even a ReFa iron. Regarding room management, there were issues such as the remote control for the TV stand on the second floor not working, the sauna temperature control key being locked, and the in-room safe not being usable. I understand it is quite busy, but I would like everything to be checked before check-in. After contacting, they responded immediately. This time, I used the train, so I requested a shuttle service, and it was helpful to be picked up and dropped off at the villa. I had a good New Year's trip. I would like to visit again.

    A wonderful birthday celebration

I made a reservation to celebrate my birthday at my favorite property, Zagyoso, to enjoy delicious meals. The dishes were beautifully presented in carefully selected tableware, featuring fish from Izu, vegetables, and meat, all of which were delicious. They also prepared a dessert plate with "Happy Birthday" and even gave me a wonderful gift, making it a very memorable birthday at Zagyoso. I would like to visit again in early spring, but unfortunately, I heard that renovation work on the South Building will start in February. I am looking forward to enjoying the newly renovated South Building and the open-air bath for my birthday next year. Also, the Haagen-Dazs ice cream is one of the things I look forward to. Thank you very much.

I was a little concerned about the age of the facilities, the cobwebs on the guest room terrace, and the top of the outer gate, but overall it was a wonderful property. Thank you for the shuttle service from the annex to the main building dining area.
