This was my second stay. Last time, I stayed during a snowy season, so this time I was able to relax until dinner and fully enjoy the sight of green trees swaying and the gentle calls of evening cicadas from my clean, refined Room. The meals here are delicious both in the morning and in the evening, with plenty of vegetables. Of course, the fish and meat were also excellent—everything was flawless. Above all, the staff’s smiles were wonderful, and their service was attentive and professional, which made me feel truly happy. I will definitely come back to stay again when I have time. Thank you very much.

This was my first stay at this Accommodation, and I stayed in the “Kunugi” Room. After reading Reviews beforehand, I arrived excited about the view from the Room and the generous meals—and in conclusion: it was amazing!! The view of Mt. Yufu from the open-air bath in the Room was breathtaking, and the interior had a lovely retro feel. Above all, it was incredibly spacious! That said, I personally don’t do well with insects, so coexisting with nature was a bit challenging (lol). I didn’t use the open-air bath much; instead, I enjoyed taking in the great outdoors through the glass window of the indoor bath. It made me think, “I want to come in winter!” and “I definitely want to come again!”—I’m already checking my schedule. Just as the Reviews said, the meals were very filling. There’s no way you won’t end up full! Everything was so delicious that I even had seconds of rice. They also offered to make onigiri for a late-night snack, so I gladly took them up on it (lol). After dinner, a staff member delivered the onigiri to my Room. I’ve stayed at many Ryokan across Kyushu, but this Accommodation is outstanding in terms of value for money and hospitality—an unquestionable 5 stars!! Seeing is believing. Highly recommended!! In winter, with clearer air, I’m sure you can see even more beautiful stars—so I’d love to visit again later this year or early next year. Thank you so much for such wonderful memories.

Thank you very much for taking care of us during our 4-night Multiple Night Stay. This time, we stayed in the “Oryu” Room. First of all, every staff member was incredibly kind and clearly loves animals. Everyone greeted us with a smile, was gentle and attentive, brought anything we needed right away, and did their best to accommodate our requests. I’m truly grateful—your staff deserves more than five stars. Next, the meals. We were told they were prepared in a special-suite style, and both the taste and quality were excellent—high standard, delicious, and thoughtfully varied. Even over several days, we never got tired of them and enjoyed every meal. With longer stays, menus can sometimes become difficult for the kitchen side as well, but you handled everything so carefully. Since I’m also a small eater, you kindly let me choose from the menu and adjusted portion sizes accordingly. This also deserves more than five stars. As mentioned earlier, your care for animals was also very thoughtful and helpful. I visited with both a dog and a cat, and it seemed comfortable for both of them. The hot spring water quality was also wonderful. As for the guest room layout: there is a long corridor between the Room area and the bath area, which felt slightly inconvenient, so I deducted one star there. On the other hand, having an additional Room separate from the main living space made it easy to stay comfortably even when traveling with friends—an excellent design. Regarding amenities: there are no pet amenities provided (so bringing your own is necessary), but having at least a litter box available would be very helpful. The surroundings were also fantastic—like a hidden mountain hamlet. By chance we were able to see “Children’s Kagura,” which has deep history and is clearly cherished by the community. The performers practice extensively (twice a week), and while they are indeed children (apparently ranging from 3rd grade elementary school to 3rd year high school), their performance was outstanding and truly impressive. If your dates happen to coincide with it during your stay nearby, it’s absolutely worth seeing. (It seems Kagura is held several times a year; I’d love to see other performances as well.) I also felt that preserving traditional Japanese festivals like this is part of what makes this area so special—and I think it may become even more well-known in the future. It’s about 30 minutes by car to Yufuin Station, so even on an extended stay you can easily go shopping for necessities. Sightseeing around Yufuin should be convenient as well—and Beppu is also about 30 minutes away via expressway—so overall it feels like an excellent location for travelers who want to explore.

The private family bath was spacious and even had a waterfall feature, with the water at just the right temperature, so we could soak and relax. The atmosphere of the large public bath was also wonderful. The meals featured local ingredients, the portions were just right, and we were very satisfied! If you have mobility issues, going up and down to the first floor may be difficult, but it was a quiet place to spend time. We’d love to visit again after a hike in the mountains.

My spouse and I stayed here as a couple, and our detached Room came with an open-air bath and a footbath. The Room was very clean and made for a truly relaxing stay. We had our meals in a private dining room in a separate building, and even though there were many guests, we hardly ran into anyone. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the taste and portions were just right—we really enjoyed it! Above all, the morning mist in Yufuin was absolutely breathtaking. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again if we have the chance.

Despite changing the number of guests just one day before, they kindly called back and responded promptly. The private bath and the meals were excellent; the hot pot broth was so delicious that we drank it all and ended up completely full. The handmade soba had a great bite, and the freshly cooked rice was glossy and so good that we had seconds even though we were already full. The bath water had natural mineral deposits, leaving our skin smooth and soothing both body and mind from everyday fatigue. Thank you very much.

I stay here frequently. I always feel relaxed thanks to the hospitality, meals, Room, and Onsen. The meals are very delicious—so much so that I end up overeating. The Room is also great: it’s comfortable for working and comes with an Onsen, making it perfect for a refreshing break. I will definitely stay again.

Our dog weighs around 10 kg, so we really appreciated being able to walk him on a leash. The building is spacious, so we were able to relax without running into many other dogs. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The meat and fish were very fresh, with a wide variety of dishes—we were completely satisfied. Every staff member was kind and welcoming. I treated myself to a luxurious solo stay in a Room with a private open-air bath. From the deck, I could see fireflies flying right in front of me, and the bath temperature was just right for a long soak. I used it many times during my stay. Meals were served in a private dining room, so I could relax and take my time. There was an incredible amount of food, but everything was delicious, so I finished it all! There is both an indoor public bath and an open-air bath, and I tried both. The open-air bath requires going up and down quite a lot of stairs. Since the indoor public bath also has an open-air section, that alone might be enough. The layout inside the building is a bit complicated. The elevator only goes up to the second floor, but my Room was on the first floor, so each time I had to get off the elevator and use stairs to move around. If you have trouble with your legs or back, it may be better to request a Room on the second floor or higher (though Rooms with private open-air baths may only be on the first floor). I also wished there were an outlet by the bed for charging my phone (I ended up forcing it by plugging in behind the TV). On departure, I even received what seemed like a handmade souvenir. It was an Accommodation with truly warm hospitality. I’d love to visit again.

We stayed at the property after climbing Mount Kuju. It was close to the Maki-no-toge trailhead, and after having tea at Shetani, we headed to Hanashinobu. We arrived at 4 PM and received a detailed explanation of the stay from the proprietress before heading straight to the onsen. The quality of the water was good, and there were various onsen options to choose from, which was very pleasant. Dinner was at 6 PM, which was perfect timing. The dinner was luxurious and very delicious. The room was warm, and we slept comfortably. Breakfast had a wide variety of dishes, and we were very satisfied. We would like to visit again. The owner and the proprietress were kind, and it was a warm property.

I’ve stayed at many Accommodations, but both the baths and the meals felt like a completely new experience. The French & Italian cuisine was excellent, and I enjoyed visiting different baths. At Tenku-no-Yu, I could even hear the Onsen water gushing up naturally, which was truly impressive. On the way home, I parked at a free parking lot about 3 minutes downhill from the Accommodation by car and took a walk through an area where intense steam vents and residential homes coexist, fully enjoying the Waita Onsen area. I’d love to stay again.

In early June, we stayed at Kuju-san in search of fireflies. Dinner at this Accommodation was amazing! Freshly cooked, steaming rice was served with a smile at just the right times as our meal progressed, and we could really feel their thoughtful hospitality. The portions were so generous we thought we couldn’t finish, but we ate almost everything!! Even the staff were surprised!!! After dinner, the fireflies welcomed us with a jewel-like sparkle—an unforgettable natural spectacle that made us forget everyday life. Truly moving, again and again... When we asked the staff for advice about our trip the next day, they kindly offered helpful suggestions, making it a memorable journey. This was an Accommodation that is truly kind to travelers. Sorry for the late note of thanks—thank you very much to everyone for taking such good care of us.

I used it for a trip with him at the beginning of the year. It was a whole building rental, and there was a bath in the room, so we could relax as much as we wanted without worrying about the surroundings. Dinner was a special New Year's menu with fish and meat, and it was very satisfying. Above all, the rice cooked in a personal earthenware pot for breakfast was very delicious, and he was very pleased. Since it was New Year's, we were also given sake as a service on our way back. Thank you for taking care of us this time. It is a property I would definitely like to use again.

The more you travel, the more your 기준 for choosing an Accommodation shifts from “luxury” to “essential comfort.” Tucked away in a mountain gorge at 1,000 meters above sea level in Kokonoe, Oita, Tabinoyado Yamatsubaki feels like the final paradise discerning travelers eventually find. Its greatest value lies in its intentionally limited number of rooms. Far removed from the bustle of a large Ryokan, it offers complete privacy—paired with perfectly judged hospitality that is attentive without ever feeling intrusive. From the moment you arrive, you can feel everyday life quietly fade away. The open-air bath is simply unforgettable. In crisp, unobstructed air, soaking in superb free-flowing Onsen while watching the starry sky shift moment by moment becomes more than a bath—it’s an indulgent sense of oneness with nature. For an Accommodation with such a private atmosphere, the generous space throughout is exceptional and especially appealing to wellness-minded travelers. As I was visiting after business and didn’t want to inconvenience the owner couple, I booked a stay with breakfast only—but each dish at breakfast told its own story. Every bite was spot-on and far beyond expectations. I regretted not ordering dinner so much that I could only think afterward: “Why didn’t I?” I also learned that at nearby Komatsu Jigoku—reopened for sightseeing after restoration completed in summer 2025—you can make Onsen eggs yourself. They kindly sold me eggs upon request and graciously accommodated my last-minute favor. I visited in early summer, but reaching Kokonoe’s mountains when they are covered in snow will likely require some preparation. Even so, that challenge only adds to the thrill of heading into a hidden retreat. Nature, renowned hot springs, and outstanding cuisine—Yamatsubaki brings them together in near-perfect balance. It isn’t just somewhere to stay; it’s a destination in itself—a truly one-of-a-kind Accommodation worth traveling for.

The meals were even better than I expected from the Reviews, and I could tell they were prepared with great care and time. I reserved a Room on the third floor, but the stairs are steep, so I don’t think I could return unless my legs are still strong enough. Yufuin Onsen seems to have many Accommodations. I highly recommend Hakuunso.

Run by a warm and thoughtful couple. The entire property is spotless, and we were truly impressed by the carefully prepared breakfast and dinner. An outstanding Accommodation in every way.

Stayed in a detached accommodation with an open-air bath. Enjoyed multiple baths, the room was clean, and I could relax! The meals were delicious, plentiful, and very satisfying. However, the attendant was a bit unfriendly and mumbled while speaking, which was intimidating. Also, there were stairs; although they provided sandals, it felt safer to wear shoes. Overall, I was very satisfied. The food was truly delicious!

An Accommodation in Yunohira Onsen, a quiet retreat in the Yufuin area. Run by a husband and wife, it has a calm atmosphere that feels like coming back to your family home in the countryside. Dinner was outstanding—especially the Bungo beef grilled on a ceramic plate. We also enjoyed the seasonal dessert. The miso soup at breakfast was hearty with plenty of ingredients—one of our favorites. The Onsen baths can be reserved for private use: an indoor hinoki bath and an open-air rock bath. We’ll be back!

This was our fourth stay. Ever since our first visit, we’ve been impressed by the delicious meals, the relaxing Onsen, and the wonderful hospitality of the proprietress and all the staff—an Accommodation that always makes us want to return. It also has a charming, nostalgic atmosphere, and the Room was spotless and beautifully maintained—nothing to complain about. We’re planning to visit again next year, and we’re already looking forward to it.

This was my first stay in Yufuin Onsen. A week before my stay, there had been heavy rain and I was told train services were suspended, but the staff’s phone support left a very positive impression. I chose a detached Accommodation, and the Room was clean and the Onsen was excellent. There was something like insect repellent spray in the Room, so I wondered if there might be a lot of bugs, but it didn’t bother me at all. Both dinner and breakfast were very generous portions and simply delicious. The amount is more than I can finish, so I feel bad leaving food; I would appreciate it if you could offer a smaller-portion Plan as well.
