I was looking for a Hotel around Lake Toya where I could stay with my dog, and chose this Hotel— it was truly an outstanding experience. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptionally delicious, and I was completely satisfied. The facilities were clean and modern, and all the staff were wonderful. The only thing I noticed was that although you should be able to enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Toya from the bath, the outside view was blocked for privacy reasons. That part was a little disappointing. Other than that, everything was perfect, and we had a very comfortable stay with our dog. I would love to visit again!

I had long wanted to visit this Hotel, but it was a bit far and I rarely had the chance. This time, I was finally able to stay for two nights. The sky was cloudy and looked like it might rain, so I was a little worried about whether we could enjoy the view, but there was no need to worry at all. We were able to take in stunning scenery, and it was well worth the effort to make the trip. The meals and baths were excellent, and all of the staff were very pleasant, making our stay truly comfortable. It is a wonderful Hotel that makes me want to visit again.

I visited again for the first time in six years. It was during the hot season in July, but as expected, Unzen Onsen at this higher elevation was about 3–4°C cooler than down below. I enjoyed the wonderful scenery and Onsen for three days as always, and the Japanese-Western fusion meals were truly delicious; even the tableware matched each dish beautifully and added to the experience. I was disappointed that the French toast I loved at breakfast before was no longer available, but that was more than made up for by the satisfying meals focused on locally sourced ingredients. I also appreciated the warm, unpretentious hospitality from all of the staff. It’s such a lovely Hotel that you find yourself planning your next visit on the way home.

The building is showing its age, but it is carefully cleaned, and the furniture and furnishings are well maintained. The ikebana arrangements are beautifully displayed and are said to be rearranged each time by the staff. The chef is from Nemuro and sources fresh seafood from there. The vegetables and meat are locally sourced from within Hokkaido. Every time, both the presentation and the flavor are excellent, and we enjoy our meal with genuine admiration. We plan to visit again next year to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

This was my first trip to Kusatsu Onsen, and I stayed at Tsutsujitei. All 10 rooms come with their own private bath fed by natural hot spring water—an absolute dream for onsen lovers. Being able to soak whenever I wanted, as many times as I liked after check-in, was truly wonderful. By checking in early, I could relax in the room and enjoy the hot spring at a leisurely pace—it felt like a real luxury. In fact, I came down with a fever the day before and called to ask whether it would still be possible for me to stay. Even then, they responded with such kindness and care, and they even called the next morning to check on how I was feeling. I was genuinely grateful for their warm consideration. Thankfully my fever went down, so I was able to visit as planned. After checking in early, resting in the room, and enjoying a soak in the hot spring, it was time for dinner—the moment I had been looking forward to. Each dining space is a private room, so you can enjoy your meal at your own pace without worrying about those around you. The attendant who looked after us this time was such a delightful person that conversation flowed naturally, making not only dinner but even the next morning an enjoyable time. Thank you very much. Kusatsu Onsen itself—my first visit—was also incredibly charming. As you walk around town you catch that distinctive onsen scent in the air; even without any particular plan, simply wandering around is fun. Tsutsujitei is located slightly away from the lively hot spring town center, in a very quiet and relaxing setting. The beautifully arranged flowers throughout the property were impressive, and the carefully maintained garden is another highlight. Including both the interior spaces and the garden grounds, it felt as though calm time flowed through the entire inn. Out of the 10 rooms, four are separate annex villas (hanare), where meals can also be served in-room. Because this stay was so comfortable, next time I would love to book one of those annex rooms and enjoy both meals and hot springs slowly in complete privacy. With their thoughtful concern for my health as well, this became an unforgettable trip to Kusatsu Onsen. Thank you very much.

Although it’s a secluded Accommodation deep in the mountains, it’s relatively easy to access by car and not difficult to reach. The Accommodation features classic, traditional Japanese architecture, yet it feels clean and has been thoughtfully renovated for comfort and ease of use. It was clear how much care goes into its upkeep, which I truly admire. The surrounding nature is lush, and the greenery and gentle sound of the river are very soothing. That said, the bedding mattress felt a bit firm for me personally, which was a small minus point (I didn’t wake up sore the next morning, so this is purely my personal impression). The hot spring source is around 37°C and lukewarm, but there are also heated baths, so it wasn’t an issue. If I had one wish: since I’m not fond of lukewarm water, I would have liked the heated tub to be larger. Meals were mainly simple countryside dishes, but everything was very delicious. Younger guests might find it a little light; in that case, I recommend ordering additional dishes. For us it was just the right amount—and we could get refills of rice—so we were very satisfied. Many of the staff were young, but they were always smiling and pleasant, with excellent attentiveness and consideration. This is an outstanding Accommodation that makes Japanese guests feel at ease—I hope it never changes. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was our first overnight stay at Kokori-an. The room had a spacious layout with a Western-style room, a Japanese-style room, and a bed area, and the bedding was very comfortable. We had an in-room bath that we could use anytime, but since check-out was at 10:00, I was a little disappointed—if it had been 11:00 or 12:00, I could have enjoyed one more relaxing soak in the morning. Dinner was a Kaga cuisine course with rich dashi and refined flavors; we were extremely satisfied. Breakfast also offered a good variety of dishes, and both my husband and I enjoyed it very much. My husband rarely gives compliments, but he said, “Let’s come again!” We were able to unwind in the hot spring for the first time in a while, and we are grateful for Kokori-an’s hospitality.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary trip. From the moment we arrived until the very end, we truly had a wonderful time. The Room was spacious and spotless, with thoughtful attention to every detail. It was so comfortable that we honestly wished we could stay there forever. We were also delighted to receive a Room upgrade this time—thank you so much. Above all, the meals were beyond words—absolutely delicious. Every single dish was outstanding, and the dining experience itself became a special memory. Because it was our anniversary, you even prepared a surprise dessert plate for us. We were deeply touched by your unexpected kindness. All of the staff were warm throughout our stay, full of attentive care and hospitality, and we found ourselves thinking again and again how glad we were to have chosen this place. The Room, the meals, the Onsen, and especially the staff’s thoughtfulness—everything was exceptional. We couldn’t be more satisfied with our stay. We have stayed at many Accommodations over the years, but this is without a doubt the best one we have ever experienced. We are truly glad we chose “Hakone Gen” for such an important anniversary. The breakfast and dinner buffets were outstanding and truly exciting. I was especially amazed by the wide variety of breads at breakfast. Everything was delicious, but I regret that I couldn’t try them all. We also enjoyed drinks and sweets in the lovely lounge, and the staff’s attentive service made our stay very comfortable. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again.

The Onsen water was excellent, and the meals were more than satisfying. Although this is a long-established Ryokan, it doesn’t feel overly formal, and the check-in guidance was efficient and pleasant. With a good balance between service, Facility quality, and price, I think this Accommodation can satisfy most types of guests. There are three main bathing areas, each offering different spring qualities with free-flowing hot spring water. I especially liked the bath called “Saru-no-Yu.” It’s a large Ryokan, but the Onsen is so good that even hot-spring enthusiasts should be satisfied. The dining area is also very spacious; we were told all 96 rooms were fully booked on our stay, but at the times we went for dinner and breakfast it felt relaxed, with only about half of the tables in use. There is also a wide selection of alcoholic drinks, so guests who enjoy alcohol should have plenty to choose from.

I visited Izushi to pay my respects at a family grave, and stayed at Nishimuraya Shogetsutei in Kinosaki Onsen for the first time in a while. The room was spacious. At Kinosaki Onsen Station, there is a place at the tourist information center where they can store your luggage and deliver it directly to the hotel, so I was able to travel light—going to Toyooka and then on to Izushi. The hotel’s baths were also large, and I could relax. I also enjoyed visiting the public bathhouses; although it’s a bit far from the station, I appreciated that there is a shuttle bus. Dinner was delicious. Breakfast was a buffet, but this time I kept it light. There was a good variety of options. Next time, I’d like to come for crab. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

I had a very comfortable 3-day, 2-night stay in a quiet setting. The meals were delicious, and the nightly mini concerts in the lobby were truly relaxing. As I was traveling solo, it wasn’t cheap, but the Facility and the quality of the cuisine more than justified it. If I had to mention one thing, the toilet paper in the Room was thin and a bit inconvenient to use. It was a wonderful and comfortable Hotel that will likely make me want to return again in summer.

From arrival to departure, the staff provided attentive and thoughtful service throughout. My plans before check-in took longer than expected and I arrived late for my spa appointment, but they kindly adjusted the schedule for me. The spa was wonderfully relaxing, and I was able to unwind. Dinner in the room was a delight for both the eyes and the palate, making full use of seasonal flavors and local ingredients. The bath I had been looking forward to met my expectations, and the open-air bath in the room felt refreshing; I also enjoyed it at a leisurely pace in the morning. They were truly supportive with everything, including arranging a taxi and advising on our next sightseeing plans. I would love to visit again when I have the chance.

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday. Above all, what left the strongest impression was the warm hospitality of the staff. Since it was a birthday trip, everyone was very supportive, and every staff member treated us with genuine kindness. We were able to spend our entire stay feeling comfortable and welcomed. The meals were also excellent—each dish showed great care and attention to detail, and everything was delicious. What I remember most is the rice at breakfast. It was so good that I kept asking for refills, and in the end they brought the whole clay pot to our table. That rice was truly amazing as well, and I ended up eating far more than I intended. We really appreciated this kind of thoughtful consideration. The Room felt completely private, and since we were quite tired after hiking the day before, we were able to relax deeply and recharge. The only reason I rated the Facility a 4 is that it would have been even nicer if there had been something like a large public bath. That said, the bath in our Room itself was very spacious and could be opened up like a semi-open-air bath, with direct access out to the balcony—an excellent design. Overall, we were more than satisfied with our stay. The staff’s hospitality, the food, and the Room were all wonderful, and we’re truly glad we chose to spend such an important birthday trip here. We would love to visit again.

We stay here every year around this time. The calm atmosphere remains unchanged, the food is delicious, and the staff are wonderful, so we are always very satisfied. Until now, we have visited as a couple, but this year we brought our two children and came as a family of four. Our children also had a very fulfilling time and were extremely happy with their stay. We would love to return next year as a family of four.

This was our first stay as a couple with our dog. From the moment we arrived, the owner and all the staff welcomed us with thoughtful care and warm smiles, and any tension quickly melted away, leaving us feeling at ease and at home. We were soothed by the free-flowing natural hot spring Onsen in our room, and enjoyed the calm retro-modern atmosphere throughout the property that felt like stepping into an anime or fairy-tale world. While savoring outstanding, healthy, locally sourced cuisine, we could almost feel impurities gently leaving our bodies and energy returning. We were able to truly relax both body and mind. We will definitely be back.

The garden was magnificent. The bath was also an Onsen that warmed us to the core, and the meals were very delicious. We would definitely like to stay again. The cake included with the anniversary Plan was exceptionally good, and enjoying it with the complimentary coffee made for a truly happy time.

I visited Niseko to see Mt. Yotei. Unfortunately, it was raining and I couldn’t see it, but the delicious meals made up for it. Thankfully, the next day was sunny and I was able to see Mt. Yotei in all its glory. The Italian set course was excellent—each dish was delicious, and the flow of the course felt natural and very well put together.
