Although I often stay in Kirishima Onsen, this was my first time in Hitoyoshi Onsen, so I chose a relatively new Accommodation. It turned out to be the perfect choice, and on the way home my companion and I kept saying, “We’re glad we picked this place.” First of all, the Facility itself is new and very well cleaned, so check-in felt comfortable and pleasant. Next, the baths: both the indoor bath and open-air bath are stone-built with deep tubs; the water was pleasantly hot and gentle on the skin—truly a “beauty bath” quality—and I was very satisfied. Meals were served for both breakfast and dinner using local ingredients in thoughtful detail; everything was delicious in just the right portions. When visiting Kumamoto I had been hoping for basashi (horse sashimi), but it wasn’t included in this Plan; it was available to order separately, so I enjoyed it that way. What helped us most was assistance with making Reservations for lunch the next day and for activity facilities, as well as answering detailed questions. They kindly accommodated our requests—such as “I want to eat seasonal salt-grilled ayu” and “I’d like to try pottery on a wheel”—all with a smile. Thank you also for seeing us off even in light rain without opening an umbrella. The salt-grilled ayu at the restaurant you recommended was excellent, and we each made pottery pieces (a plate, a bowl, and a beer glass). After firing them in the kiln, they will be glazed in our requested colors that same day and then shipped to our home once finished—we’re looking forward to receiving them. I would love to visit again; however, there is one disappointing point: there is only one Room type available for stays of two or more people, so I would appreciate more options. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room for three people. The exterior and shared areas were very clean, but there were a few disappointing points. First, there was no ceiling light in the Western-style room. Perhaps because it is a bedroom, but two of the three guests were elderly this time. A bed is not used only for sleeping. Since it can be difficult to stand up from sitting on tatami, we wanted to sit on the bed to chat or watch TV if there was no sofa, but it felt too dim. Another point—also from the perspective of elderly guests—was that the steamed rice seemed hard. The location right in front of the Kuma River was excellent, and the staff were wonderful, so overall we would say we were mostly satisfied. Thank you for your hospitality.

I stayed with my mother. The view of the Kuma River from the Room was wonderful, and we spent some time just enjoying it. We thoroughly enjoyed the ayu sashimi, salt-grilled ayu, and other dishes. Everything was delicious. It was also my first time trying dried-and-grilled ayu at breakfast. Along with the Ryokan itself, the baths had a sense of history, and the quality of the hot spring water was excellent. Next time, I hope to visit with my wife and children as well. Thank you very much for your hospitality. I imagine there may be impacts from the earthquake (such as cancellations), but I wish all of your staff good health and all the best.

From the moment we arrived at the Accommodation, we were warmly welcomed, and it felt very homey. The food was delicious, and everything was explained very carefully. At night, we were also able to watch a meteor shower from what seemed like a terrace or balcony, which was very satisfying.

We checked in after 6:00 p.m. because we came after the Gokase River canoeing experience, but thank you for accommodating dinner service starting at 6:30 p.m. The meal was very delicious, and we were completely satisfied. A small stream also ran right beside our Room, and its sound and atmosphere were very soothing. Next time, I would like to visit during the season when fireflies are dancing. At night we used the indoor bath, and in the morning we used the bathing Facility on site; both had great water quality and were very relaxing. I wasn’t sure whether the indoor bath was fed by Onsen water, but it had a wonderful atmosphere, and since the ceiling was a glass window, it felt like a semi-open-air bath. (It was also fun to see a gecko clinging to the outside of the glass.)

It was a captivating experience, with the Ryokan’s dignified traditional Japanese architecture and its beautiful strolling garden that lets you feel the changing seasons. The historical stories passed down at Yoshino Ryokan were truly fascinating, and I have deep respect for the way it overcame the hardship of the major flood disaster in 2020 and was rebuilt with strength. This time I chose a Plan without dinner, but the Japanese breakfast provided was high quality, and the carefully prepared dishes gave me energy from the morning. The large public bath is small, but quiet and comfortable, allowing me to relax and soothe my fatigue. The warm and kind hospitality of the proprietress and all staff left a strong impression. In a calm atmosphere that has not been overly commercialized for tourism, this is a rare, authentic Ryokan that preserves the charm of good old Japan. With such wonderful offerings, it also delivers excellent value for money—I was truly satisfied. I would love to visit again in another season to enjoy this beautiful garden.

This was our first stay at Ayunosato. I had been interested in this Accommodation for a long time, but never had the chance until this visit. In conclusion, it was a far better Accommodation than I expected. I also liked that free drinks were available. As it is an Accommodation by the river, we were able to fully enjoy the view from the terrace. I have a big appetite, so it would have been perfect if there had been an à la carte menu, but I was still satisfied with what was offered. The lobby’s design and atmosphere were great, and the staff were kind and attentive, which we really appreciated. We were able to relax in the open-air bath in our Room, and I was impressed that the washing area even had heated flooring. Since there were two of us this time, we could stay in a spacious Room and enjoy it to the fullest. It’s also worth noting that it’s close to the expressway with very little driving required.

The biggest appeal is being able to enjoy the free-flowing Onsen from the source almost all day, except for a short cleaning period in the morning. It’s also popular with locals, showing that it’s a well-loved Onsen in the community. The Room is clean and not particularly spacious or fancy, but it has everything you need—an ideal Accommodation if you’re staying mainly to enjoy the Onsen. There aren’t many dining options nearby, so be sure to buy food at a supermarket or drive to a restaurant; otherwise, you may have trouble finding something to eat.

Bathroom Reservations are available, but the changing area also has a washing machine and dryer, and some people came in to collect laundry while others were changing. It would be better to limit the Reservation area to the bathroom and changing area only, and exclude the washing machine and dryer (separate them with a curtain or similar). Also, the step inside the bathtub is slippery and dangerous, so please add a warning notice.

This was our third stay. The staff were very kind and attentive, and we had a comfortable and pleasant time. The Room was clean and welcoming, with a calming atmosphere filled with the scent of wood, making it very relaxing. There were both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, allowing us to fully enjoy a leisurely soak. In particular, there were three types of open-air baths, which the children also enjoyed, creating wonderful memories for the whole family. It was an Accommodation we were highly satisfied with, and one we would definitely like to visit again.

This was my first time staying here. Although I won’t go into details, there was a difference from what I had reserved, which initially left me confused. However, the staff responded quickly, and I was able to enjoy a comfortable stay. I feel it’s rare to find a Hotel that provides such pleasant service these days. The location is easy to find and the parking lot is easy to park in. There are set hours when staff are present, but there is a proper explanation and emergency measures are also listed. The building is old, but it is clean, and the service is very polite and pleasant. The hairdryer was a bit difficult to turn on, and there were many remote controls, so it would be nice to have a little explanation. There is also a microwave, ABEMA, manga, and DVDs, and the Onsen that was recommended was great! There was a sign saying "With sincerity," and it really comes across. I think I will be using your services again.
