I was looking for a Room with an open-air bath and in-room dining. About a 45-minute drive from Kanazawa, with a zoo and the mysterious Hanibe Gankutsu-in nearby, it felt like the perfect place for the first night of our 2-night, 3-day trip, so we decided to stay here. First, when we arrived about 10 minutes past check-in time, everyone was waiting outside in this heat, and since we weren’t used to that kind of welcome, we felt truly apologetic (lol). I was surprised by how vast the grounds were—our Room was spacious, and best of all, it had the semi open-air bath I’d been hoping for! Having a dedicated staff member (?) take care of us throughout our stay also made us feel at ease. This time it happened to be my companion’s birthday month… and when I casually mentioned it, they gave us a birthday gift at dinner. On top of that, the proprietress even put on a surprise (no spoilers), which made it such a fun and memorable experience. We heard the meals change daily, so I think even a Multiple Night Stay would be enjoyable. There are also two large public baths that are more than enough to enjoy even without an in-room bath—we were able to relax and unwind. Above all, we really appreciated the warm hospitality from all the staff. In the end everything worked out well, but since it was their birthday month I requested an additional dinner item in advance; however, on the day we were told that if we ordered that menu they would like to serve dinner not in our Room but in another private dining room instead. Since I had been looking forward to in-room dining as well, I would have appreciated being informed at the time of ordering that this might happen. That said, the room they prepared for us was private—and actually it worked out better for messy people like us because we didn’t have to rush around tidying up before dinner—so we were very satisfied. Next time I’m thinking of visiting during my own birthday month so I can experience the proprietress’s surprise again. Thanks to you all, it turned into a wonderful Kanazawa trip. I stayed here with my sister and her husband while it was snowing heavily. The Accommodation has both a first and second floor, making it a Room layout I had never experienced before. The in-Room bath had plenty of hot water flowing continuously, which was perfect for a morning soak. The meals were also very delicious.

Just 12 minutes by train from Kanazawa Station, with a free Shuttle Service from the station, it was a nearby Onsen. I had been curious about the “Tanbo-no-Yu” bath. It was a trip for three sisters in our 60s, and the open-air “Tanbo-no-Yu” bath was wonderful. Maybe because rice planting had just been done around the baths... the chorus of frogs created a great atmosphere. The meals were delicious as well. The staff were from overseas but spoke Japanese very well, and worked hard to provide warm hospitality. It’s an old Hotel with history, and as you walk through the building you can still see impressive old beams, a large cauldron once used to cook rice, and antique chests of drawers. Modernizing the Facility is nice too, but this Accommodation let us truly feel traditional Japanese charm. I think I would recommend it to international guests as well. The price was reasonable, and I will come again. Thank you very much.

A serene Accommodation surrounded by rows of trees. With spacious hallways and a limited number of Rooms, we rarely encountered other guests and were able to relax and enjoy a peaceful stay.

I stayed here when visiting the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. Since this is a pension, please consider this review as an evaluation of a different type of stay than a typical Hotel or Ryokan. Room The Room was very simple and clean. It was also spacious enough to relax comfortably. The bed felt slightly small and has a frame at the foot, so taller guests may find it bothersome. At 185 cm, my feet were completely hanging off the end. Facility The bath, toilet, and refrigerator are shared. The bath was a fairly large communal bath for a pension. Although it feels a bit old, it is kept clean. Meals For dinner you can choose BBQ or a set course meal. I chose the BBQ; it was mainly pork, with plenty of vegetables, and I ended up very full. Next time I’d like to try the course meal as well. Breakfast was a classic Japanese-style breakfast—well balanced and satisfying. Overall The Room was clean, the meals were wonderful, and the owner was very friendly and welcoming, making for an excellent experience. As it was the off-season, the price was also very helpful. It’s about an hour from here to the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, so I highly recommend this pension for anyone visiting there. Because it’s deep in the mountains in Ishikawa Prefecture, nights are cool and air conditioning wasn’t necessary. However, since it’s in the mountains there are insects in summer (they take precautions but can’t eliminate them completely). That said, this is normal for mountain pensions like this one—you just need to be prepared for it. Highly recommended for those who enjoy pensions or mountain lodges.
