About 10 years ago, my wife underwent breast cancer surgery. As her condition stabilized, we stayed at this hot spring inn with the surgeon’s approval, on the condition that a simple (non-sulfur) spring would be fine. It was a refined ryokan where we could enjoy an elegant hot spring experience—including a cave bath—and delicious cuisine. However, when we arrived, my wife didn’t have much of an appetite, perhaps due to the effects of treatment. I still remember promising her, “Once there’s no risk of recurrence, we’ll definitely come back.” Now that 10 years have passed and the risk of recurrence is gone, we finally returned together—and both the second- and third-floor baths offer a wide variety of options where you can soak at ease. The bathing areas are also kept in absolutely perfect condition! In addition, each dish in the morning and evening kaiseki meals is beautifully seasoned with exquisite dashi flavors. Coming here in such a rush 10 years ago made me realize how much we were both preoccupied with illness at the time. From now on, we’ve decided to stay here every October without fail. That’s how wonderful this hot spring inn is. I can recommend it to everyone with complete confidence. P.S. I’ve attached photos of dinner and of the waterfall visible from the connecting corridor.

We stayed at the very end of summer vacation, and everything was wonderful—the meals, the baths, the renovated Room, and the excellent service from all staff. During meals, we often saw how thoughtfully they looked out for our young children, and the front desk staff were also very kind, making our stay truly pleasant. We had almost given up on using the pool because of the rain, but it cleared up on checkout day, so we were able to fully enjoy both the pool and the slide—our kids were thrilled. Thank you as well to the staff member watching over the pool for regularly skimming leaves and sharing helpful information. It was a perfect way to end summer vacation, and our whole family is very satisfied with these great memories. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Thank you for taking care of us on our family trip. The building was old, but the bath and the Room were clean, so it didn’t bother us. The parking attendant, the front desk staff, and all other employees were very pleasant, and we were able to stay comfortably. There is no refrigerator in the Room, but there was a shared refrigerator in the washroom area that we could use. Tea was also provided in the hallway. Since we used the bath late at night, it was almost like having it to ourselves and we could relax. The open-air bath was also very nice. Breakfast was mainly Japanese-style, and the rice was especially delicious. We were told it is cooked in a traditional pot, and it even had some crispy browned rice. We also heard that staff draw the water themselves, and it tasted great as well. Our family has been saying we’d love to come again.

We stayed here for the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival. The building seems old, but the Room, floors, and Facility are clean. The meals are very delicious. There was plenty of rice, vegetables, and side dishes, and we ended up eating too much at every meal. The Onsen has several types of baths, so you can relax and enjoy it comfortably. We would love to stay here again for the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival next year.

Although it was a shame that we couldn’t go out for a walk because of the heavy rain during our stay, everything else was wonderful. The dinner in particular was carefully seasoned, vegetable by vegetable, and I was surprised at how delicious every dish was. We chose a Room without a view this time, but next time I’d like to stay in a Room with a great view. Thank you very much.

We stayed in a detached Room with our dog during a long holiday. We came without high expectations, but were pleasantly surprised. We have stayed at various Hotels and so-called luxury Accommodations, but this was one of the very few places where we truly felt they excel at creating generous time and space. We were able to spend our stay feeling deeply fulfilled. The dog run was also more than sufficient—spacious enough that even a large dog had no issues. Both the evening course meal and breakfast were truly wonderful, and we were completely satisfied with the delicious food. If you stay here, I highly recommend trying the meals. The staff’s attentiveness is also excellent, and even if you visit with small children, they will make sure you can enjoy your mealtime with peace of mind. This is one of the few Accommodations that makes us want to return. Next time, in winter...

Although the building is old, the facilities were clean and well maintained, and my stay was comfortable. With unlimited Asahi Super Dry included at the dinner buffet, plus a breakfast buffet, I was satisfied with the price. I would like to stay here again.

I stayed with my child who lives alone in Niigata, and our dogs. Since there was no fee for dogs, we were told to bring everything ourselves, so we prepared accordingly. As there was no extra charge, I won’t complain. The Room was spacious, and the dogs were thrilled to run around. Although it is an older Ryokan, it was kept very clean. The tea sweets were also delicious. The bath was spacious and relaxing. I was happy that it was available from 3:00 PM to 9:00 AM. The meals were delicious as well. The Uonuma rice came with free refills, so we had seconds at both dinner and breakfast. Great quality for this price—easy on the wallet and a wonderful memory.

The Room was clean and uncluttered, with nothing unnecessary. The essentials were more than enough. Since the bath water can get very hot, there were clear and detailed instructions on the door and inside the bathroom, which made everything easy to understand. The shower pressure was strong and great as well. I can’t sleep without my own pillow, so I brought mine—and I slept very well! I’d love to stay here again when I travel to Niigata Prefecture.

This was my third stay at this Accommodation. Last time I had breakfast only and it was delicious, so this time I chose a Plan with both dinner and breakfast. Everything was seasoned just the way I like, and I really enjoyed it. There were so many dishes and such generous portions that it was more than I could finish.\n\nThe bath was quite hot, but very relaxing. Perhaps because it was a weekday and there were few guests, it felt almost private and I could soak at ease.\n\nI would love to stay again.

We visited as a family trip. Because we arrived late, we checked in, picked up the welcome sweets, took a look at our Room, and then headed to the Onsen. The outdoor bath “Shirogane-no-Yu” was wonderful—my skin felt so moisturized! We stayed in a Villa Suite. It’s a log-cabin cottage style Accommodation, and the Room was spacious, very clean, and truly relaxing. There aren’t any paintings or decorations in the Room, but the sky, mountains, and trees seen through the window feel like a framed work of art—I could watch it forever (laugh). It made me realize how long it had been since I lived without thinking about time. For dinner we went to Restaurant Aoyama Ryokusui. You can enjoy dishes that reflect Oze’s nature, such as game meat and wild mountain vegetables. Even while waiting for the next course, staff brought ingredients to show us, so we enjoyed the time between dishes as well. Before bed we went to another Onsen inside the Facility. We were told it uses the same water as Shirogane-no-Yu, and it was perfect for a slow soak at night. The next morning we drove to Shiori Pass to see Takigumo (waterfall clouds). We were lucky enough to see them! Waking up early was worth it. It’s just a short drive from the Facility, so I highly recommend it. Breakfast included seasonal vegetables and wild mountain plants as well as river fish—and above all, the rice was delicious! Many of the staff are young, but everyone was polite and greeted us with warm smiles, which helped us relax throughout our stay. If you arrive earlier there also seems to be a kitchen tour; I’d love to join next time if I have the chance. Honestly, my only thought is that I wish we could have stayed longer… We definitely want to come back!

They serve truly serious cuisine! You can feel the chef’s dedication, and it’s genuinely delicious! Even the standard course included this much!

We stayed as two couples, my husband and I, along with my sister and her husband. The accommodation provided shuttle service to the nearest station, and the staff's hospitality was excellent. The meals were outstanding; the rice from Uonuma was so delicious that both the porridge at dinner and breakfast the next day left us thinking we had never tasted such amazing rice before. If I had to mention one minor disappointment, it would be that the beef steak served at dinner was cold. However, all other dishes—appetizers, wild boar dish, sashimi—were absolutely delightful. As a parting gift, they gave us souvenirs which included a photo taken during our meal from the previous day—a wonderful keepsake of our stay. Thank you very much!

At first, the building’s age made me wonder if it might be a letdown, but everything was very clean, the food was delicious, and the service was courteous. I was very satisfied. I’d like to stay again when I’m in the area.

At first, based on the photos, I didn’t have very high expectations when we visited… but they prepared a very spacious Japanese-Western style room for us. On the table there were small, adorable rice balls—such a thoughtful touch. As expected from Uonuma, Japan’s top rice-producing region. Both at dinner and breakfast, the service was incredibly kind and attentive. Not only was the rice excellent, but all of the food was delicious—and thanks to the wonderful hospitality, we enjoyed it even more. The hot spring water felt great, and by the next morning my skin felt silky smooth. Everything also seemed very well cleaned. The open-air bath is small, but since it’s on the rooftop, the night view was beautiful. Inside the building there were various nostalgic items on display—we ended up reminiscing and even got absorbed in playing some games. As we left our room and waited for the elevator, a staff member who had been cleaning nearby went out of their way to bow politely and see us off with “Thank you very much—please take care.” All of the staff greeted us with warm smiles, and we truly had a comfortable stay. These days many places rely on overseas staff where communication can be difficult at times, but here we were happy to receive such courteous and gentle service. It became an inn we would definitely like to visit again. The building itself feels old and shows its age, but it is carefully kept clean—once you visit, it isn’t an issue at all. One note (my own carelessness): I slightly cut my finger on an inner edge of the towel rack. It may be good for children or elderly guests to be a little careful around it. Thank you very much.

I love Onsen and have stayed at many Accommodations across the whole country, including luxury Ryokan, but Koguriyama Sanso stands out for its deeply satisfying meals, the best Onsen where you can always soak in peace and relaxation, the wonderful view from the window, and the quiet, luxurious time surrounded by nature—along with the hostess’s bright and welcoming personality. It is a memorable place I want to visit again even if it’s far away. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family, or in a group, I highly recommend this Accommodation for warmly welcoming everyone.

The Onsen accommodation was excellent except for the outdoor bath having a cover and the volume of breakfast. The heartfelt cuisine, in particular, was truly impressive.

Stayed for one night from a weekday to the day before a holiday. Both the building and the Room had a classic feel, but it was comfortable. Above all, the rice at breakfast was delicious. I ate various meals after this as well, but this was the best. The aroma and moisture level were perfect.
