As my parents have gotten older and we don’t know how many more trips we’ll be able to take together, I invited my brother and brought my daughter for a family trip. Because my mother has rheumatoid arthritis, we chose this Accommodation on the conditions that the Room had an open-air bath and that all five of us could stay in the same Room. It turned out to be far better than we imagined. We arrived late for check-in, but we were warmly welcomed and given a courteous explanation. Women can choose their preferred yukata pattern to wear inside the Accommodation. The lobby offered complimentary drinks including alcohol; I had a drink for the first time in 10 years, and it was delicious. There were also three kinds of cookies, all of which we enjoyed. Many of the staff were young, and everyone provided very polite service. Because the Accommodation is small and intimate, we rarely ran into other guests, which allowed us to relax completely. Every meal was excellent. Thank you as well for accommodating my child’s allergies. For breakfast, they served a Western-style option for children, so there were many items my child could eat, which made us very happy. Both the Room and the open-air bath seemed new and were spotless—there is nothing to complain about—but above all else, the view is outstanding. The river flows right in front of you, and you can enjoy it almost privately not only from the lobby but also from your Room. We were truly moved by it. We heard that peak autumn foliage is around early November, so next time I would like to make a Reservation around then if possible. If I may make one request: I would appreciate it if cleansing oil could be provided in the Room. When I asked at reception they kindly brought it right away so it wasn’t an issue in practice; however, some guests may use only the in-room open-air bath without going elsewhere, so I hope you will consider it. Lastly, thank you very much for helping us create such wonderful memories on this trip.

We were highly satisfied with everything—the Room, the Onsen, the atmosphere throughout the building, the service, and the meals. Since there were three of us this time, we booked a quadruple Room. Usually the third person ends up on an extra bed, but here it was a proper spacious bed, so we could truly relax. The entire building is covered with tatami mats, so you can walk anywhere barefoot or in socks and feel relaxed as if you were at home. It was also fun being able to choose a colored yukata. In addition, several types of pillows were placed in the hallway on each floor along with pillowcases so guests could choose—this really felt like exceptional hospitality. The process of taking the slope car to reach the Accommodation was enjoyable as well, and everything about how we were guided was smooth—we really felt how good the service was. The meals were delicious and thoughtfully prepared, making them visually enjoyable too. We also had a dedicated staff member who carefully explained that no allergens were included and provided detailed guidance about each dish—their attentiveness was outstanding. It was truly a wonderful stay.

The riverside open-air bath was closed, but we used the outdoor Onsen reached by going down 300 steps. The staircase is so narrow that only one person can pass at a time. We were told it’s open until 11:00 p.m., but we were worried about our footing at night, so we went in the evening and again in the morning. While soaking, we enjoyed the river’s flow and the mountains, listening to the sound of the water. The stairs were tough, but I truly felt glad we came. The semi-open-air bath down about 20 steps was also wonderful, with a clear view of the mountains right in front of you. The temperature was perfect for me. I didn’t expect much from the indoor bath, but it had large windows and felt very pleasant; there was a jacuzzi, a reclining bath, and a hotter pool where we could relax comfortably. Everyone at the Accommodation was very kind and welcoming. Dinner came in many small dishes. The beef and the meatballs in the hot pot were delicious. Even simple items like the beef sauce, hot-pot broth, and pickles were all excellent. The portions were just right for us as a couple. I think you need to be fairly fit to visit an outdoor Onsen that requires going down 300 steps—but I’m really glad we did. This isn’t about the Accommodation itself, but both the bus driver from Nasushiobara Station and the person at Shiobara Onsen Terminal who explained a map of Shiobara Onsen were incredibly friendly, which made our memories of this trip even better. We stayed here with a couple of friends on the middle day of a three-day holiday weekend. The exterior felt a bit old, but the Room had been well renovated and was clean. In addition to the large public bath, there are six private open-air baths that can be locked, including one beside the gorge.\nWe were able to forget about everyday life and truly enjoy our time as a couple.\nAlthough it is a large Ryokan, it feels like a family-run place and has a warm atmosphere. We plan to stay again.

Set in a quiet location surrounded by a tranquil forest, it feels very relaxing. The Room has a retro vibe. The refrigerator and toilets are shared, but they are well organized and easy to use. As for Room security, the door locks with an old-style push-button knob. Please keep valuables with you. The sheets for the futon are changed daily. Everything is very clean and fluffy. The lighting feels a bit dim, so it would help if it could be brighter. The bath water is clear brown, with a relatively high pH. Leaning against the main pillar of the pyramid-shaped building (inside the bath), you might feel some kind of energy?? It’s refreshing. Both morning and evening, the bath is not crowded. I hope the 95-year-old owner is doing well. If the timing works out next year, I’d like to stay again. A hands-off Accommodation that’s just right for me.
