The building itself felt a bit old, and I noticed a slight odor inside, but the Onsen and seafood were truly outstanding. Since the large public bath alternates between men and women, I only used one side, but it was spacious and comfortable. The water left my skin smooth and moisturized—it felt amazing. There wasn’t a place inside the tub to sit (with about half your body out), so I couldn’t soak for too long, but the open-air bath had a great atmosphere and I could relax without worrying about others. Our Room came with a private open-air bath, and the tub was even larger than it looked in the photos—there was plenty of space for two people to stretch out comfortably. It might even fit around three people with ease. Best of all, it was free-flowing natural hot spring water, so fresh water kept pouring in continuously—it felt wonderfully luxurious and incredibly relaxing. The crab I’d been looking forward to was also delicious—I think it was my first time ever getting completely full from crab. I was very satisfied with the sashimi and the salmon at breakfast as well. Of course, the steak was also very juicy and tender... That said, it seems rice and miso soup at dinner were brought after we asked for them (I’m sorry—I must not have listened carefully because I was captivated by the beautiful crab right in front of me). By the time they arrived I was already quite full, so I wished I had requested them earlier. There were thoughtful touches throughout as well—like a footbath inside the property and self-serve coffee in the morning. Everyone at both the dining area and front desk greeted us with smiles and were very kind, so we felt comfortable throughout our stay; it ended up being a truly refreshing trip that helped us unwind. I would definitely like to stay again.

The necessary amenities were prepared in the room, which was reassuring. The location, twin room, service, Onsen, and breakfast were all comfortable at this Hotel. During our 4-night trip to Eastern Hokkaido, this was the most comfortable stay.

I stayed here with my daughter on a trip to Yamaguchi. We drove from Shin-Shimonoseki to the Ryokan by rental car. Right after arriving, we enjoyed the footbath, then the granite bath. After a walk around, we returned to the Ryokan for the open-air bath. After dinner, we used the bath in our Room. In the morning, we went to the hinoki-wood bath. After breakfast, we used the Room bath again. We really enjoyed all the Onsen. It may just have been how I felt, but when I woke up in the morning my fingers weren’t stiff like usual—maybe it was an Onsen effect. The food was delicious, the riverside scenery was beautiful, and there were few tourists, so it felt like a hidden gem. The staff at this Ryokan were also very welcoming and made it feel homey. The building showed its age, but that gave it character. The only disappointment was that the air conditioner in our Room didn’t cool well and it was uncomfortable. Maybe it’s an older unit? Also, there was a musty smell in the Room (different from sulfur) that bothered me. Still, I’d like to visit again if I have another chance, and if friends ask me for recommendations for a good Onsen getaway, this is an Accommodation I’d suggest.

I always choose this Hotel to enjoy a relaxing bath. However, this time, I experienced something unusual. It seemed that someone had washed their body in the bath, and when I tried to take a second bath late at night, there was a large amount of scum floating on the surface. I tried to scoop some out myself, but there was too much to handle. Feeling cold, I reluctantly used the cleaner side where water was flowing for a short time. When I reported this issue to the front desk, they responded promptly. The next morning when I went back to the bath, it had been cleaned thoroughly. It seems they checked and cleaned it several times during the night because by morning it was spotless and I could enjoy soaking comfortably again. Additionally, perhaps due to my distress over the situation, I completely forgot my glasses in the bath and couldn’t see well enough without them. When I mentioned this at reception, they kindly helped me search for them until we found them together—I truly appreciated their help as I'd almost given up hope of finding them. Thank you so much! This experience reminded me how important proper bathing manners are among guests. I look forward to staying here again!

The meals were delicious, and the horse sashimi we had for dinner was outstanding. The staff were very welcoming, from our arrival at the Ryokan to their attentive service during meals. It became a wonderful family travel memory. Thank you very much.

I’ve stayed here many times, and this was the first time I was impressed that breakfast seating was open. Also, since it’s bonito season, they served a generous portion of delicious bonito sashimi in the morning! This is an area where even the grilled salmon is unbelievably good, so breakfast was already high quality—and then they added sashimi too. I was very satisfied! The Room and Facility are a bit old, but if that doesn’t bother you, I think it’s a great Accommodation. It’s also close to a convenience store.

This was my second stay. The food already has an excellent reputation, and everything I tried was truly delicious—especially the desserts. I’ve had many buffet-style meals before, and this is my No. 1. The financiers served in the lounge as a late-night snack were also very tasty. The baths go without saying. I also appreciated that the service wasn’t overbearing. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

I found Sugatani Onsen while looking for an Accommodation where I could stay with my pet, without knowing the name beforehand. It was very comfortable. I brought pet pads, but if possible, I would like you to provide some spares. There is no need to lay out the futon during meals; I worry my dog might bark, so it makes me more concerned. The air conditioner noise felt a little loud. The meals were very delicious. It is a quiet location away from the crowds.

I came back for a second visit right away!! As expected, this place was amazing! I was so happy that the proprietress remembered me. The meals were delicious as always! The hot spring water was wonderful! I’m already hoping to come back for a third time!

This is the best Hotel our family has been using for three generations! We live nearby, but we still choose to stay here. Even though it was a busy season, I was truly impressed that you kindly accommodated our same-day requests to set up a baby guard and arrange a birthday surprise. Every time, the meals are delicious, the Facility and Onsen are spotless and well maintained, and the cleaning is thorough. The staff are always wonderful as well—everything is perfect every visit! It’s a Hotel that makes me want to work hard so we can come back again. We’ll be back!

I realized the day before our stay that I had mistakenly made a Reservation for a smoking Room, and when I called, you kindly changed it to a non-smoking Room—thank you very much. Our trip could have been ruined otherwise. Also, as a pleasant surprise, we found out at the restaurant that alcohol was included with the meal. I wish this had been stated on the booking site. The children said there were not many soft drink options. The Facility itself is old, but the service was great and everyone left satisfied. The price is reasonable, so we would like to stay again.

Although our trip was rainy, the staff kindly came to the parking lot with an umbrella to welcome us as soon as we arrived at the Accommodation. After that, everyone continued to treat us gently with warm smiles at all times, making it one of our favorite travel memories. The Onsen temperature was just right, and I ended up soaking for about an hour... Dinner was delicious, but breakfast was even better—an amazing variety and great flavors. We felt happy and completely full from the morning! It’s an Accommodation we would definitely love to visit again!

This was my third stay. I visited twice before in May, and this time I came for the first time in autumn. Last time I was deeply moved, thinking, “What an incredible Accommodation,” and on this visit that feeling only grew stronger. A sense of unhurried calm and quiet fills the entire property. The Japanese paintings and seasonal tea flowers displayed along the corridors are beautiful, and tasteful touches can be felt everywhere. The Room is spacious and impeccably clean, and even the furnishings reflect the owner’s refined aesthetic and excellent taste. I was especially captivated by the small sewing kit, letter box, and other thoughtfully placed items—each one quietly charming. Rather than emphasizing luxury outright, I believe this Accommodation’s greatest appeal lies in how much care is devoted to every detail. I originally found this place while looking for an Accommodation where I could truly enjoy the cuisine, but even among similarly priced culinary Ryokan featured on IKYU.com, the food here feels a level—or two—above. Not only are the dishes crafted around seasonal ingredients; everything is outstanding: the choice of tableware, presentation, and even the dashi in each soup bowl. There is no end to what I could write—every single dish moved me. The staff member who introduced each course (perhaps the young proprietress) was also wonderful. It wasn’t just an explanation of what we were eating; it naturally stirred our imagination, anticipation, and appetite even before we began. This too felt like hospitality unique to Toryukan. This time as well, I traveled with my elderly parents. Each trip with them carries a quiet thought that it may be our last together someday, so we cherish every moment we can share. We were truly grateful for how warmly all of your staff treated us—it remains deeply in my heart. Thanks to you all, we once again spent a wonderful time together as a family and created unforgettable memories. I feel Toryukan is not simply an Accommodation where you stay overnight to rest—it is a place that lets you savor time itself as it flows there. Beautiful surroundings, exceptional cuisine, a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, warm hospitality. We would love to return again to enjoy each season’s beauty—and its cuisine. This was my first stay. The staff were exceptionally well trained, and their attention to detail was outstanding. We had dinner at Ryozen inside the Hotel; both the portion size and the taste were excellent. We also enjoyed many delicious wines. The amenities were great, and I would love to visit again soon.

We traveled to Kagoshima to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday and stayed here for one night during our three-night trip. This Accommodation’s meals were incredibly generous in portion size. Every dish let us fully enjoy the natural flavors of the ingredients, and everything was delicious—we were completely satisfied, to the point of feeling like we could barely eat another bite. Because it was a 60th birthday celebration, we requested a size 4 decorated cake in advance, and it was prepared for us at dinner. Afterward, we enjoyed it together as a family in our Room while celebrating at a relaxed pace, making it a truly memorable time. The view from the Room was wonderful as well. Just after 7:00 a.m., our whole family took a walk to the footbath in front of the Hotel. Soaking our feet there in the crisp morning air felt amazing and was deeply soothing. There were also several local community cats around, and their adorable presence brought smiles to everyone in our family. All of the staff were kind and welcoming throughout our stay, and we were able to spend a wonderful time that felt perfect for such a special trip. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again when visiting Kagoshima. Thank you very much.

Thank you for your hospitality the other day. When I told you I can’t eat raw fish, thank you for preparing alternative dishes. The food looked great and tasted wonderful, and we also enjoyed the complimentary extra dish. The bath warmed me up so well that I stayed warm for a long time afterward. The detox water after the bath was also delicious. It was great to be offered a draft beer as a welcome drink at check-in—it was the perfect refreshing drink after a long drive. I would love to stay with you again.

Thanks to you, we had a wonderful trip. Spending a full day relaxing in complete privacy, without meeting anyone and without worrying about time, was truly a luxury.
