Before each stay, it has become our tradition to visit Niutsuhime Shrine—a UNESCO World Heritage Site about five minutes away by car. This time, we joined a talk held from 5:00 PM in the lobby lounge about Niutsuhime Shrine. The storyteller shared fascinating behind-the-scenes stories that only someone closely connected to the shrine could tell; before we knew it, around 30 minutes had flown by. The next day after checkout, we visited Niutsuhime Shrine again and also explored nearby historic spots we learned about during the talk. It allowed us to worship from a completely new perspective—and we discovered power spots we never would have found on our own. The traditional house café near the shrine that was recommended to us was also wonderful, making this trip even more meaningful than ever! We heard these talks will continue on an irregular basis—if one happens during your stay, we highly recommend joining. We also heard that on some days there is a guided visit starting at 7:00 AM (meeting at the lobby lounge) for worship at Niutsuhime Shrine. No matter how many seasons pass or how much time goes by, this is a place we want to return to again and again. A luxurious Facility where extraordinary koi swim. We were able to enjoy a sand bath, a ceramic bath experience, and a private open-air bath at no additional charge. All staff were kind and provided attentive service. The Japanese cuisine served at the Yakusugi cedar counter was exquisite, with tropical fruits used throughout that were as beautiful to look at as they were delicious. The entire property was spotless and impeccably maintained, and the star-filled sky we gazed at late at night from the free-flowing natural hot spring open-air bath in our room was beyond words.

We arrived after climbing the slope of Mt. Daisen for a while in light rain and mist. Seeing the word “Church,” we hesitated for a moment, but when we opened the wooden lobby door, we found a charming space unified in an antique style—like stepping into a Kenji Miyazawa story. You can truly feel how much the owner couple and staff value and care for their guests. Once shown to our room, the fog gradually lifted, revealing beautiful views of Yonago’s cityscape in the distance, along with the Sea of Japan and Lake Nakaumi. The open-air bath on the terrace was pure luxury, soaking while taking in the spectacular scenery. Dinner was exceptional both in presentation and taste. We also enjoyed chatting with the dining staff, and the timing of each course was perfect. In this quiet natural setting, we spent blissful time that felt well beyond its price. It was a pity that the entrance gate was still under construction, with cones and blue tarps scattered around (I understand that unexpected earthquakes and heavy rain can take up manpower). This time, the meals were upgraded and were a delight to both the eyes and the palate. For breakfast, I would have been even happier if there had been a choice of bread. Because my husband is from Nagaoka, we come from Tokyo to Niigata every year during the Obon season. Our usual routine is to go swimming at Kakudahama Beach first, then stay at Hotel Asuka. The made-to-order dinner buffet is delicious, and the food comes out quickly. The dishes you can pick up anytime are also great, so I always end up eating too much. Both the long-time staff and the newer team members are truly pleasant and welcoming—it makes me feel at home. This is my favorite hotel that I look forward to visiting every year. It was outstanding... Everything was impeccable—the attention to detail throughout the Accommodation was wonderful, the staff were warm and welcoming, every dish was delicious, and the Onsen was so amazing I wanted to soak in it again and again. Since we came to enjoy hot spring hopping and relax, having a small TV actually felt like a plus. We truly felt that simply spending time there had value. We stayed here on a trip with my parents-in-law. Our top priority was finding an Accommodation that could provide a low-sodium diet for my father-in-law, who became seriously ill last year. If possible, we also wanted to bring our dog along, since my parents-in-law adore him. Those two points are why we chose this Accommodation. From the parking guidance to our Room, we were warmly welcomed by staff with wonderful smiles. They also prepared chairs for my elderly father and even a chair for the in-room Onsen bath, so within 30 minutes of arriving at the Ryokan we already felt truly happy. What impressed us most was the meals. We were told they would “accommodate as much as possible,” and they really did—removing mentaiko, providing low-sodium soy sauce, and preparing dishes without salt or pepper. Thanks to all these adjustments, my father was able to finish almost everything. Since his illness, even eating out requires constant caution, so being able to enjoy a meal together at the Ryokan made us genuinely grateful. Some Reviews mentioned there were no dog amenities, but there were lint rollers and paw wipes available, so we had no issues. The usual overnight set you’d bring when leaving a dog at a pet hotel (pee pad tray, food bowl, water bowl) was enough. The in-room Onsen bath was very spacious, with perfect water temperature—I used it many times. In Uchiko, Ehime Prefecture. After driving from Kochi, we arrived at the hotel; as soon as we pulled up, a staff member came right out and guided us. After an exceptionally smooth check-in, we didn’t add any sightseeing at all—we spent our time simply enjoying the hot springs, the special guest room, and reading. As it was a weekday right after Silver Week, there were hardly any overnight guests or day-use bath visitors, and we were able to savor the luxury of feeling as if the entire property belonged to just the two of us. Above all, dinner far exceeded our expectations. My wife was deeply moved by how delicious everything was—so much so that after the meal she even asked both the chef and sommelier to sign our menu. Not only was each dish outstanding in itself; its elegance on refined tableware conveyed a sense of care and intention in every plate. By candlelight at our table, we were able to take our time and fully enjoy both the food and drinks at our own pace. The in-room hot spring bath was also memorable—especially the haiku placed alongside it, which added a quiet resonance to our time in the water. Personally, I felt this inn’s appeal lies not in extravagance but in being able to truly enjoy “the luxury of doing nothing.” Visiting on a weekday allowed us to appreciate that value even more deeply.

We stayed in the detached Room “Gion” with an open-air bath, and it was very spacious with high ceilings; the dark brown beams and pillars gave it a charming atmosphere. There were two semi-double beds, and they were fluffy and very comfortable. The in-room open-air bath was spacious and amazing (the view would likely be especially beautiful in late autumn or when it’s snowy—though getting there might be a bit challenging).
