We stayed for one night with breakfast included. The Accommodation accepts only three groups per day, and the bath and toilets are shared; however, the bath is a private family-bath style. Since we have a daughter who dislikes large public baths with strangers, this was the deciding factor. We were able to book a two-room suite-style Room, with a separate living area and bedroom—spacious and relaxing. Perhaps because it used to be a traditional restaurant, the entrance area of the Room (shoe-off space) is open, and each Room is secured by locking its sliding doors (fusuma). The locks are screw-type locks for sliding doors rather than typical cylinder door locks, so younger guests unfamiliar with them may be confused at first (as our kids were). Also likely due to the building’s traditional structure—with fusuma and shoji screens—soundproofing is somewhat limited, and TV noise or conversations can be heard from the hallway (according to our daughter). That said, the property itself is generally quiet. The layout also seemed designed with noise in mind—for example, keeping relaxation spaces separated. There was one other family with small children staying that day, but it didn’t bother us. There is no washbasin inside the Room; instead, paper cups are provided at the sinks in the bath area and by the toilets for brushing teeth and washing up. Everything was well maintained and pleasant to use. Breakfast the next morning was served in a large hall on the second floor. It was an excellent Japanese-style breakfast—delicious.

I visited during a solo motorcycle trip. Since it was near a ski resort, it seemed off-season, so there were few guests, and I was able to relax and fully enjoy the Onsen. Although I chose a no-meal Plan, I received complimentary coffee and freshly baked croissants in the morning. The croissants were freshly baked and delicious. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

We had a wonderful family trip during the New Year. The meals were incredible, with an abundance of crab and sashimi, followed by tempura and chawanmushi just when we thought we couldn’t eat any more! The final dish of zosui was absolutely perfect. The private baths at night allowed our family to relax together comfortably. The staff provided such warm and welcoming service that it felt like returning home. A special thank you to the driver who kindly took us on an outdoor hot spring tour despite the heavy snow! We will definitely visit again.

The uphill walk from the station is definitely tough, but aside from that, we were satisfied. Since taxis sometimes don’t come to the station easily, we recommend planning accordingly depending on whether it’s a weekday or a weekend/holiday. Grilling dried fish and warming up fish cake was fun.

It was truly amazing! The staff were wonderful, the Room was clean, and the Onsen was fantastic! Nothing to complain about!

Close to the business destination and the most affordable option in the area, I chose this accommodation for a rare opportunity to stay at Arima Onsen. Although I was slightly concerned due to unclear reviews and parking inquiries beforehand, the customer service was excellent—polite and kind. They also promptly issued a proof of stay upon request, which was very helpful. Guests staying at Hataya can use the onsen at Kamioobo, and their guidance regarding this was very thorough and pleasant. The onsen itself is old but atmospheric, located in an underground-like setting. Since it was late at night when I visited, there were few people (I had it all to myself), making it a relaxing experience. The guest room in the accommodation was clean and well-maintained. Being sensitive to smells, I appreciated that there were no unpleasant odors—just a traditional Japanese scent that added charm. The location is excellent: about a 3-minute walk from the famous Kin-no-Yu bathhouse, with convenience stores nearby as well as restaurants and souvenir shops within close proximity. As for drawbacks: - The smoking area is only available in a narrow space near the entrance, which could inconvenience those entering or exiting. - The walls are quite thin; sounds from neighboring rooms are noticeable, requiring extra consideration not to disturb others. - While there’s a desk and chair provided on wooden flooring near them (which amplifies noise), combined with limited space due to having a refrigerator nearby made working challenging—I ended up using the low table instead. This place may not be ideal for business purposes but poses no issues otherwise for leisure stays. Lastly—and not specific just here—accessing parking by car requires caution as roads in central Arima Onsen are narrow; pre-checking directions thoroughly is essential since some paths can make maneuvering difficult if you get lost. Despite listing several concerns above, my overall experience felt like an escape from daily life—it left me appreciating its charm even more after returning home!

Kurokawa Onsen is quite expensive due to inbound tourism, so if you're just looking for a place to sleep, this property should suffice. You can enjoy the atmosphere of the onsen by going on an onsen tour. As others have mentioned, the stairs are steep, but it's manageable if you have little luggage. If you borrow the bath, it seems to be shower-only, so I highly recommend the Kurokawa Onsen tour. Also, the onsen recommended by the owner was great! The owner's personality was as good as other reviews have mentioned. I didn't use the bath at the stays, so I can't evaluate it.

I stayed at the accommodation with elderly neighbors. The BBQ area was on the second floor, so carrying luggage and preparing was a bit challenging for the older guests. There was no dining table on the second floor, only a table on the terrace, so I thought it would be nice to have a small counter. There were no cleaning cloths or dish towels available, which made it difficult to dry plates and pots. Next time, I plan to bring my own supplies. The Onsen was fantastic! The beds were spacious and very comfortable for sleeping. The elderly guests said they would love to visit again!

Facing Miyuki Street, the surrounding area was easy to walk around. It was convenient to have a convenience store (Lawson) and the Shirahama Bus Center nearby. The unit bath includes a toilet with a bidet function. Wi‑Fi was available, but the signal showed only one bar. The door lock is secure, but it felt unusual to carry a standard key when going out. The Room was on the second floor, and there are only stairs, so please be careful if you have heavy luggage.

Excellent access to the Shiga-Kusatsu Road. The Room was spacious and relaxing. The Onsen was very pleasant. The staff were kind and made us feel at ease.

Although it was a self-service stay in a traditional hot-spring therapy style, the host/manager provided very courteous service and clear explanations, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. In the Room, there was what seemed to be a protective mat for placing luggage (likely to prevent dirt from suitcase wheels), and an extension cord was thoughtfully placed by the bedside—small touches that really impressed me. The yukata selection included many sizes, so each of us could choose one that fit perfectly. I booked a no-meals Plan, but I had no dinner plans, and I was told nearby restaurants could deliver to the Room. Since it was hot outside and I didn’t feel like going out to eat, I really appreciated that (haha). The bath was nicely hot and felt great. I think it helped boost my immunity. Because of the timing, I didn’t run into other guests, so I could bathe comfortably without worrying about anything. Despite the reasonable rate, I truly felt their wholehearted hospitality and was very satisfied. I’d love to stay again next time.

As one of the most established Hotels in Tamatsukuri Onsen, it was sure to be a solid choice, and I was especially pleased with the excellent breakfast buffet. There was a great selection of seafood, and I also enjoyed the shijimi clam miso soup; if you prefer, you can also choose Western-style options, salads, and cornflakes. The view overlooks Lake Shinji, though the bridge structure of the San’in Expressway is hard to ignore.

We stayed in the Luxury Suite as a family of four. The Ryokan slippers were a bit hard and uncomfortable to wear. Other than the distance and cold walk from the Room to the large public bath, everything was excellent. The rental yukata and hair accessories were lovely. On snowy days, we recommend avoiding the Yamanami Highway. We are grateful for the front desk's kind advice on the best route home.

Last time I stayed in winter and enjoyed the snowy scenery, but this time it was midsummer, so the atmosphere felt completely different. After exploring the town, I checked in and was happy to be welcomed so kindly by everyone. When I entered the Room, the air conditioning was on and it was wonderfully cool—I felt relieved right away. The meals featured Hida beef throughout, and they somehow seemed even more delicious than last time. One small disappointment was that I couldn’t find a bug net in the women’s bath, so a few insects were swimming there. Still, I’d love to stay again.

The facility is old but kept very clean, making for a comfortable stay. The meals were perfectly suited in terms of ingredients and portions for us as an older couple, and they were delicious. The host family was incredibly kind and welcoming. The Onsen was exceptional and even helped improve my joint pain. Plus, having a Japanese-style room with an Onsen at such a reasonable price is amazing! We will definitely visit again. Thank you very much!

We enjoyed being able to drink the Onsen water, the nearby Jigoku Onsen, and the many private family baths.

We’ve been staying here during the Obon holiday season since last year! Above all, the meals are delicious! My daughter, who is a picky eater, was so happy and said it was truly delicious—she even ate my portion as well. The property has a long history, but the Room is clean, and we really appreciate the thoughtful touches such as providing water. All of the staff are polite, and their smiles are wonderful. We’d love to stay again next year. Thank you very much!

It’s very close to JR Futsukaichi Station, so you can walk there even with luggage such as a suitcase. A flashy sign that looks like an imitation of Thomas is the landmark. The staff member who assisted us at check-in was also a foreigner, and was very polite. The Room feels like a studio apartment. There is a shoe cabinet, a washing machine, and the toilet is separate; the bathroom is a unit bath. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The closet is also large. There’s a refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, and sink, so you can cook if you want. Detergent for both laundry and dishwashing is provided—please feel free to use it. The bed is a queen-size low bed. The mattress was as soft as a waterbed; if you like soft mattresses it’s great, but if you prefer something firmer it might hurt your lower back. There are mirrors in the bathroom or on the closet—two full-length mirrors—so when doing your hair or makeup (especially using a hair iron), there wasn’t an outlet nearby and there was no extension cord, which made it a bit difficult to style my hair right at the limit of the cord length. An outlet near the mirror would be convenient (though outlets near water may be unsafe). It’s inexpensive, clean, and convenient with a convenience store nearby. I’d like to stay again.
