    We stayed as a group...

We stayed as a group of four friends and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The spacious accommodation, excellent service, sauna, meals, and activities like the bonfire were all exceptional. It was a luxurious summer vacation where we could forget about daily life and enjoy a relaxing time. The building had a charming and impressive appearance, and every room was truly beautiful. It gave us a unique feeling of both being uplifted yet relaxed at the same time. The expansive garden and courtyard were lovely, with clean sauna spaces offering peaceful areas to unwind both indoors and outdoors. In this private setting, it was so quiet that we could only hear the distant sounds of insects while enjoying complete relaxation. The meals featuring plenty of Yamanashi ingredients were delightful, as was the complimentary Yamanashi tea provided—it was incredibly delicious! We are also very grateful for the staff's attentive hospitality throughout our stay. Despite some hectic moments during check-in or dinner times, they handled everything with care and flexibility, allowing us to feel at ease. Having previously stayed at another property in this series of accommodations built from traditional Japanese houses (kominka), we found each one has its own unique charm despite sharing similar origins. We would love to return for another special occasion in the future!

Spacious and relaxing, the children had a blast!

We stayed at this accommodation in July 2025 with our child's friend's family. We took the train heading towards Yamanashi, and upon arriving at Higashi-Hanawa Station from Kofu, we were immediately struck by how fresh and different the air felt. Even the children remarked, "The air feels different," which confirmed it for us. Although it was hot, the accommodation is about a 10-minute walk from the station. Having a convenience store nearby was also very helpful. As we approached the accommodation, we were amazed by its grand entrance that gave a sense of spaciousness. Just as we were feeling nervous about staying in such an impressive place, a staff member warmly welcomed us. The staff member was incredibly kind and provided clear explanations about the facility and dinner times before seamlessly blending into their tasks like part of the atmosphere. They were attentive to children's needs and flexible with requests like adjusting sauna times—thank you so much for your help! The room was so spacious that even two families had more than enough space to enjoy comfortably. The children were thrilled to find toys such as Daruma Otoshi (a traditional Japanese game), ring toss, and bamboo stilts—thoughtful touches that showed great consideration. In today's digital age where tablets are common for kids, it felt refreshing to have them detox from screens here. For adults, there was a counter-like area near the kitchen where we toasted together and relaxed for some time. Since we had set an early dinner time, it wasn’t long before dinner began—and what a meal! Grilled sweetfish with salt or pork roasted over an irori hearth made us truly appreciate each ingredient's value. The salad made with Yamanashi-grown vegetables in jelly dressing was also delicious. After dinner—which ended while it was still evening—we enjoyed activities like sitting around a campfire or playing with fireworks until nightfall when our children quickly fell asleep after all their excitement. Later on, adults spent quiet time at the counter enjoying music through excellent sound equipment connected to an iPad—a perfect way to complement this traditional house's charm while relaxing together. At night came nature’s symphony: frogs croaking loudly from nearby rice fields; observing cicadas emerging on trees; spotting stray cats wandering around—all these moments brought us closer to nature’s beauty. It felt like returning home—a nostalgic yet heartwarming experience at this wonderful accommodation where we'd love another chance someday soon!

The Ultimate Summer Getaway for Adults

We stayed as a group of four friends in June for an early summer vacation treat. - The building was magnificent and beautiful, offering an extraordinary accommodation experience. - The bonfire and irori (traditional Japanese hearth) were wonderful. - Having the dishes washed for us was greatly appreciated. - The view of the courtyard from the bathroom was delightful. - We enjoyed brewing our own coffee, with plenty of great spots to drink it (on the veranda, at the hallway table, or various places indoors). - The complimentary tea in the refrigerator was delicious.

    The Perfect Anniversary

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday, and it was the best accommodation we have ever experienced. The most impressive features were the charming earthen floor and the traditional hearth. The intricate design details throughout the property added a special touch, making our stay truly delightful. The bath and sauna were incredibly relaxing, and the spacious hall allowed our entire family to enjoy quality time together, much to the children's delight. It was a perfect place for celebrating a special occasion, and we would love to visit again.

Take a morning stroll in the spacious garden, relax in the sauna – the perfect getaway.

It was a wonderful accommodation with a spacious tatami room and an impressive garden! We enjoyed a relaxing time with the bonfire and sauna, making it a luxurious experience. Unfortunately, the cloudy sky hid the stars, but lying on the sauna chair was incredibly comfortable and soothing. In the morning, we took a stroll through the large garden, enjoying moments surrounded by nature. It was such a special place where we could spend unforgettable moments—I would love to visit again!

A high-quality traditional Japanese house stay where you can truly relax.

We stayed as a group of four friends and enjoyed a luxurious stay in this 130-year-old traditional Japanese house, rented out entirely for our use. While preserving its historical charm, the facility was modern and comfortable with updated amenities like plumbing and air conditioning. It was clean and provided peace of mind even for first-time whole-house rentals. Upon arrival, the staff kindly explained how to use the accommodation and enjoy the surrounding area. Even during their absence, we had no issues and could fully appreciate the private atmosphere. The staff maintained just the right level of presence, making our stay very comfortable. The meals were truly impressive. From freshly cooked rice in an irori hearth to dishes made with local ingredients, everything was delicious. The attention to detail extended even to the tableware, creating a memorable dining experience. The healthy flavors left us feeling rejuvenated after each meal. The bath and sauna were exceptional as well—offering a serene space for complete relaxation of both body and mind. With check-out at 11:00 AM, we appreciated being able to enjoy our time until the very end. There was also a space for enjoying a campfire at night, adding another layer of enjoyment to our stay. Next time, we'd love to try activities like fireworks too. This accommodation left us wanting to return again—it’s truly unforgettable. We’re also eager to visit other properties in their series and would confidently recommend this experience to loved ones!

Size is justice, and the sauna is excellent.

The number of rooms itself was impressive, but the spaciousness, including the ceiling height, was remarkable. Despite the vastness, each room had its own charm, making the stay fulfilling. The sauna, cold bath, and regular bath were compact yet well-constructed and of high quality, providing a refreshing experience in the clear air. Entering through the imposing gate into the expansive grounds, including the garden, evoked the feeling of being a wealthy merchant from the Edo period. It was a property that made me want to stay again with other members.

    Overwhelming from the exterior

The traditional Japanese house hotel I stayed at this time was overwhelming from the moment I passed through the gate with a feeling of "Oh, this is amazing...". It has a traditional charm, yet is well-maintained and has a calming atmosphere. To the left after passing through the gate, there is a magnificent garden that truly embodies the beauty of Japan. The garden, which seems to offer seasonal views, has beautifully arranged trees, and just being there made my heart feel calm. Spending time gazing at the garden allowed me to forget the hustle and bustle of the city, providing a very relaxing experience. Meditation is recommended. In addition, the bath and separate sauna were also wonderful. Without disrupting the atmosphere of the traditional house, modern facilities are properly incorporated, and the bath has a spacious area with the best wooden scent! I felt my tired body being gently healed. The sauna is designed with perfect temperature and humidity, allowing for a long, leisurely enjoyment, and there is a well-prepared space to cool down while feeling the outside air, which was truly pleasant. I think it's an irresistible point for sauna enthusiasts. The beautiful blend of traditional Japanese beauty and modern comfort made for a very satisfying stay. It was truly a healing space.

The building was a lovely traditional house, but the meals were too poor and I don't think they were worth the accommodation price.
