    Enjoy Kyoto’s charm with a large group! The Facility has a few drawbacks, but it’s a wonderful stay.

    We stayed here for a family trip to Kyoto with relatives. We chose a machiya because we thought an ordinary Hotel would feel a bit bland, and it was absolutely the right choice! Since it’s an entire house rental, we could enjoy ourselves together without worrying about noise for the neighbors. The location was great, and the distinctive charm and atmosphere of a machiya made for a special experience that’s hard to find in everyday life—everyone was delighted. The front desk and all staff were also extremely kind and left us with a very positive impression. The only disappointing point was some aging around the water areas and Facility. The bath (hinoki cypress tub) felt more worn than it looked in the photos, and even when we filled it, the water seemed to drain away from somewhere, so we had no choice but to keep the hot water running while bathing. Also, perhaps due to traditional machiya fittings, one of the doors didn’t fit well and took some getting used to when opening and closing (at one point it wouldn’t close completely, so we contacted the front desk and they helped us). There were a few inconveniences, but overall it became such a wonderful memory that we could even consider them part of the machiya experience. The catered meal we ordered was delicious as well.
