A relaxed 5-minute w...
A relaxed 5-minute walk from Kawazu Station. The welcome drink was fragrant matcha served over ice, whisked by a young male staff member himself. He said he has not formally studied tea ceremony, but the fine foam was evenly distributed—an impressive performance. You could truly feel the spirit of hospitality. Inside the Accommodation, fresh ikebana—now rare to see—was beautifully displayed, and the Buddhist statues lined up on shelves in the corridor were also striking. The many small Buddha figures spoke of Kawazu’s once-flourishing Buddhist culture, and I found myself instinctively putting my hands together in prayer. As for the meal I had been looking forward to—my thanks to the head chef. The courses that left the strongest impression were the seasonal soup and the palate cleanser. The seasonal soup, made with ichiban dashi (often said to best reveal a chef’s skill), was clearly crafted with great care; when you lifted the lid, its aroma—and then its umami at first sip—showed meticulous workmanship. The palate cleanser featured flying fish, myoga ginger, octopus, squid, and salmon sashimi arranged over kiwi fruit and finished with ume vinegar (the chef’s original creation?). The kiwi’s sweetness and the ume vinegar’s acidity brought out the fish’s flavor beautifully. It was a texture experience I’d never had before. Even the supporting elements were thoughtfully chosen: pickles such as Ichiyama’s “wasabi stem sanbaizu pickle,” and salt labeled “Sotoura salt.” Outstanding. A quick note on breakfast as well: five kinds of small juices (La France pear, carrot, green smoothie, grape, mandarin orange) were vividly colored—a beautiful way to wake up (five cups). The three types of bread were wonderfully aromatic and fluffy; refills are a must. The attendant who looked after us was flawless in her attentiveness: her explanations flowed smoothly and clearly, and when spoken to she responded instantly with perfect timing. Her quick thinking was remarkable and made dining even more enjoyable—a true professional. This is an Accommodation I want to stay at again and again in every season.

It was a great stay.
The staff’s service was courteous and flawless from our arrival to our departure. The meals were generous, and we ended up eating too much. The bath in the Room was an Onsen where we could relax and soak for as long as we liked, so we didn’t mind the view outside the window. The road noise was a little loud, but it wasn’t noticeable inside the Room. One disappointment was that the bed was a narrow single, and I worried about falling off.

It was my first time staying here.
All the staff provided excellent service. The meals were delicious, featuring mainly local fish, including sashimi. The coffee mill was a nice touch as well. We will visit again.

After the Kawazu che...
After the Kawazu cherry blossoms had finished, I visited Kawazu expecting there wouldn’t be any crowds. As it is a small Accommodation, it was very quiet and I was able to relax and take my time. You can see the sea from the Room, but when sitting in the chair by the window, you couldn’t see it. Instead, the sea view from the open-air bath in the Room was wonderful, and I was able to soak many times while enjoying the view. The staff member who took care of our Room and meals was very pleasant, making it a comfortable one-night stay. When checking out after settling the bill, someone at the counter said “Happy Birthday.” It felt like a polite courtesy, but it still made me happy. My favorite simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) didn’t quite meet my expectations, but everything overall was very delicious and I finished every bite. Outside of cherry blossom season there isn’t much besides the sea, but this is a recommended Accommodation for anyone who wants to spend a calm and relaxing time.

It was an Accommodation I’d love to visit again someday.
The Room, bath, meals, and staff were all excellent—this Accommodation offers outstanding value for money. The second-floor Rooms feel very close to the seaside promenade, and depending on the season, you may notice the sound of the waves, sea breeze, or beach activity. If that might concern you, it’s a good idea to check with the Accommodation in advance. That said, thanks to its location you can really feel the ocean from the Room windows and the bath, so I hope future guests enjoy it to the fullest. Lastly, about breakfast: on our stay it was Western-style only. It may be unusual for an Onsen Accommodation not to offer a Japanese option, but since there was no choice menu, we were pleasantly impressed by how substantial and satisfying the Western breakfast was. (If I had one wish: a bit more effort and creativity with the bread.)

Morning Tomato
This was my first stay. With only a few Rooms, it was quiet and relaxing. The service was warm and welcoming, like family and friends. One small disappointment was that I would have liked the coffee set to be available in the living area.

An Accommodation with outstanding hospitality
We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We hadn’t mentioned it to the Accommodation, but perhaps they noticed during our toast at dinner—they quietly spoke to us, took a family photo, and even placed it in a frame for us. Their thoughtful, understated kindness made us very happy. We also had two children with us, and the staff treated them politely while keeping just the right distance. It was the first time in a while that we’ve stayed at an Accommodation with such comfortable service. The meals were delicious and generous—we were completely satisfied. The Room also has an Onsen bath, and it was great that there is a private indoor bath available by Reservation as well. With the sea right in front of you, we’re already saying how fun it would be to come back in summer!

I had a relaxing time!
The room... Very clean, and the coffee service was excellent. At night, I was surprised to find a spider on the bed, but the male staff quickly handled it, so there were no major issues. The open-air bath in the room... The location along the main road is a bit concerning. Other than that, I could relax without any worries! Meals // Dinner... Everything was delicious. Meals / Breakfast... Coming to Izu and having Western-style breakfast? Honestly, I thought Japanese-style would be better. However, the Western-style breakfast was also delicious and definitely acceptable! Staff... Even though we arrived a little early, they welcomed us with smiles right away. The young female staff member who attended to us was friendly and accommodating, allowing us to relax without any stress. This accommodation is definitely a repeat for me!

A cozy and compact accommodation
I made a reservation a year in advance to catch the Kawazu cherry blossom season. I arrived slightly after 2 PM on the day. After leaving my luggage at the accommodation, I headed to the riverside promenade lined with cherry trees. Unfortunately, most of them were still in buds, which was disappointing. Upon returning to the accommodation, I found that my luggage had already been placed in my room. All guest rooms are located on the second floor (only seven rooms), and since the stairs were steep, this service was much appreciated. After being welcomed with matcha and traditional Japanese sweets in the lobby, I reserved a private time slot for using the large communal bath (private use is available except during certain hours) and relaxed in my room afterward. Dinner was served in generous portions—almost too much—but I managed to finish most of it over two and a half hours. The large communal bath can accommodate about three people at once but felt almost exclusively private even outside reserved times due to each room having its own open-air bath as well. The baths use flowing hot spring water mixed with additional water for temperature control; they warmed me thoroughly without causing chills afterward. Breakfast offered only Western-style options: grilled fish, scallops or bacon alongside an omelet. There were also six types of juices (+ smoothies) served in small portions to keep things interesting—a nice touch! However, being in Izu made me wish for dried fish and rice as part of breakfast too... Although I missed seeing full-bloomed cherry blossoms this time around overall satisfaction from trip remained high!

We enjoyed the bath, meals, and scenery.
I became interested in Kawazu after reading about it in my favorite novel, so I decided to visit. The deciding factors for choosing this accommodation were the guest room with an open-air bath and the kinmedai (golden eye snapper) shabu-shabu. Since the accommodation is located by the roadside (though efforts have been made to ensure privacy), you need to be cautious when using the bath, but once you're in, it's very relaxing. I was able to enjoy a leisurely sunrise. The meals were delicious, especially the shabu-shabu with its outstanding broth. Breakfast was Western-style, and I ended up eating too much of the all-you-can-eat bread (laughs). The staff's attentiveness was also wonderful. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Relax with the sound of the waves, Onsen, and exquisite cuisine.
I first visited this accommodation after it was introduced as a sister ryokan during my stay at Nara Shinonosato "Gyokusui." Located right in front of Kawazu Beach, I was deeply relaxed by the sound of the waves while soaking in the onsen in my room. The cuisine featured fresh seafood kaiseki, which I enjoyed immensely with local sake. The dashi, in particular, was exceptionally delicious and I drank every last drop. Additionally, the hospitality and warm smiles of the staff made for an incredibly comfortable stay. However, there were two minor disappointments. First, while tissues were provided in the bathroom, paper towels would have been more convenient. Second—and likely just an unfortunate coincidence—the private onsen "Tsuboyu" we had reserved was completely drained and unavailable when we arrived to use it. As a couple who visits onsen ryokans almost monthly, this is definitely an accommodation we plan to revisit!

The supermoon was beautiful.
Private 296th Accommodation. From shuttle service to check-in and check-out, the attention to detail was exceptional. While it may have felt slightly over-the-top at times, the staff's hospitality was outstanding. The welcome included matcha tea and traditional Japanese sweets. 〇 Room Corner room "Oshima." The ocean stretches out in front, but so does a road. With the windows closed, no noise can be heard. The terrace is spacious, allowing you to relax on a sofa after enjoying the open-air bath. There is a coffee station right next to the sink area, which felt slightly awkward in terms of placement. Bathrobes, samue (traditional Japanese loungewear), and colorful yukata are provided. Amenities are well-prepared; however, it would be great if towel warmers were installed. Watching a cloudless supermoon from the terrace was truly delightful. 〇 Private Baths Two private baths with different atmospheres are available; one does not have an open-air bath. Time slots for free use were set up so no reservation for private use was necessary. I used them three times without encountering anyone else and thoroughly enjoyed them. Only face towels were provided here along with milk service and two massage chairs. 〇 Meals Even for one person, the sashimi platter served on a boat-shaped dish was luxurious with delicious local fish varieties. Both quantity and seasoning were satisfying overall; however, I hadn't realized breakfast would only be Western-style. Since I'm not particularly fond of bread but rice was offered instead upon request—it made me happy. Next month I'll visit another accommodation in this chain: Nara Shinobi Gyokusui! Thank you very much for your hospitality!
