    We stayed for two nights on a family trip. The younger staff were very attentive and kind, which truly impressed us. I’m not usually a fan of buffet dining, but the space was roomy, there were no lines, and we could pick up dishes smoothly. Everything tasted great and we were very satisfied. Many guests seemed to be visiting with three generations, and the wide variety of dishes felt like something everyone could enjoy together. The building felt older than it appeared on the website. With such a large property, cleaning must be difficult, but if you look closely there are some areas that stand out. That said, the views from both the Room and the baths were wonderful. Even though it rained, it suited the Matsushima coastline scenery and had a charming atmosphere. It had a classic feel, but our children seemed to enjoy the distinctly Japanese ambiance and being able to wear yukata. Overall, it was an Accommodation where we really felt the warmth of the staff’s personalities.

    Fully satisfied, with cherished memories of my mother!

    I had always remembered that my late mother stayed here about 35 years ago and said it was a wonderful Hotel, so I decided to stay this time. We originally made a Reservation for two Rooms for six people across three generations, but one person couldn’t come due to work, and then two days before our stay my father and brother (in a separate household) came down with fevers from colds. In the end, our group was reduced by half, but despite the repeated changes, you handled everything very kindly and thoughtfully. Thank you. We arrived at 11:30 after checkout time and planned to park our car first and go sightseeing in Matsushima by the Hotel shuttle bus. However, your staff told us we could complete check-in procedures in advance, and when we returned they arranged it so we could simply pick up the key at a separate counter and go straight to our Room. This helped us avoid crowds and was truly appreciated. Because I have difficulty walking, I requested an ocean-side Japanese-Western style Room. The view was excellent, the Room was very comfortable, and the air conditioning was just right. We could see the sunrise directly in front of us. For dinner we chose the seafood buffet; there were many kinds of sashimi and grilled items, each dish was high quality—it was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed it. At breakfast as well, they cooked items like cheese omelets individually on the spot for each guest. The food exceeded our expectations! As for the baths, there were no issues at all. At sunrise time, watching the sun rise over Matsushima Bay right in front of the open-air bath moved me deeply. For someone like me with limited mobility, getting around was easy—the layout made sense and walking distances were reasonable—so it wasn’t physically taxing. It helped me truly understand why my mother, who had limited use of her hands and feet due to a similar condition, said this Hotel was so good. With check-in at 14:00 and checkout at 11:00, being able to relax without rushing is another great point. The staff service; the view from the Room; amenities; meals; baths—everything made this an excellent Hotel. When I come to Matsushima again, I sincerely want to stay at Taikanso again! Since expectations are high now that I know how good it is firsthand next time I'd like a Multiple Night Stay so I can enjoy other meals as well. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

    The view from the Room, the meals, and the bath are all wonderful.

    I have stayed here several times, and the Facility, meals, and the staff’s service are excellent. The shuttle bus drivers are also very kind, and the frequent service is greatly appreciated. One request for improvement: I made a Reservation for the same Room type as last year, but although it was still in Shōinkaku, last year it was in a newer building while this year it was in a different one. Even on the official website it appears to be booked under the same category, so I would appreciate an option to specify and reserve the newer building I stayed in last year. We look forward to staying again next summer.

    We had a wonderful t...

    We had a wonderful trip with a great view of Matsushima. We invited our adult daughter and stayed as a couple with our three children in a 10-tatami, ocean-side Room. Even though it was on the first floor, we could still see Matsushima very well. Both the dinner and breakfast buffet were delicious, and we ended up eating until we were completely full. Our high school–aged son was also happy that he could enjoy so many tasty dishes. When I called to add one more person a week in advance, the response felt a bit cold, so I rated “Hospitality & Service” as 4. However, on the day of our stay, everyone—from the welcome staff to reception to the restaurant—was very pleasant. The view, meals, and bath were all excellent! It was an enjoyable trip for both our children and us as a couple.

    It was very good.

    First of all, the location from our 5th-floor Room was excellent. The Japanese, Western, and Chinese buffet was also delicious. One slight disappointment was that the kitchen staff were chatting loudly without wearing masks. The open-air bath had a great view and was very good as well. It was a very nice Hotel.

    Obon Holiday Trip

    I stayed for one night with my mother during the Obon holidays.\n We had a twin Room with an ocean view, and from our 5th-floor Room we could see across Matsushima Bay—it was truly impressive.\n It happened to be the day of a fireworks display, and we were able to watch it from our Room.\n The Room was described as on the small side, but even with two adults and our suitcases opened, it wasn’t a problem at all.\n The Japanese/Western/Chinese buffet was excellent—the shrimp in the chili shrimp dish were large and springy. Sashimi, tempura, crab, desserts…everything was delicious.\n The ramen at the end was served in a coffee-cup-sized bowl, which made it an easy portion to enjoy.\n There was also a wide variety of desserts such as fruit and cakes.\n Breakfast also had plenty of options and tasted great; the seafood rice porridge in particular was hearty with lots of ingredients and very flavorful.\n I was surprised by how wonderfully thick and chewy the Zao yogurt was.\n The Hotel itself feels like an older building, but there are USB ports by the bed area, so I could tell they’ve been renovating thoughtfully in small ways.\n The bath facilities were also great—an open-air bath with a wonderful sense of openness overlooking Matsushima felt amazing.\n When sightseeing in Matsushima, being able to leave luggage at partner shops affiliated with the Hotel is also a very helpful service.\n This was my first time visiting Matsushima, and it became a wonderful memory including both the sightseeing spots and the Hotel. Thank you very much.

    Relaxed and satisfied with breathtaking views and soothing piano music

    The Accommodation’s signature open-air bath. Soak up to your shoulders and take in the view—countless islands of all sizes, Matsushima, one of Japan’s Three Most Scenic Spots, praised by Date Masamune and Matsuo Basho! A luxury that lets you forget time and Clear away everyday fatigue. We enjoyed a Japanese-Western-Chinese buffet while listening to live piano music—so grateful. They even took our requests, which lifted the mood, and we ended up enjoying a bit more alcohol than usual. Our daughter and my wife were also captivated by the pianist’s elegant performance. Roast beef carved right in front of you, freshly fried tempura, crab, spiny lobster—and sometimes ramen. We made wonderful memories.

    July: Even rainy Matsushima becomes a wonderful memory.

    I chose Taikanso after seeing Matsushima’s beautiful scenery on TV and finding photos that matched that image, which made me look forward to a trip with my fiancée. Unfortunately, all three days of our two-night stay were rainy. Even so, thanks to the frequent Shuttle Service from Matsushima-Kaigan Station, the courteous service at the lobby reception, the polite hospitality in the dining venue, and the staff support in the Onsen changing area—down to the smallest details—we were able to spend our time comfortably throughout the property. The biggest surprise was the buffet: an impressive variety of seafood dishes already plated and ready to enjoy. As a big eater who loves seafood—and with my fiancée also having a great appetite—we were both very satisfied. I got tipsy quickly with the three-sake tasting set, but that has become a fond memory as well. The scenery along the Senseki Line was also soothing. It turned into a wonderful trip. Even in the rain, a cruise around Matsushima Bay is well worth it. Zuihoden Temple (associated with Masamune Date) is also highly recommended. If I had to point out one area for improvement compared with other Hotel reviews, it would be only the amenities.

    The view from the room is amazing!

    Overall, this is a highly recommended Accommodation. The view of Matsushima from the Room is breathtaking. You can also enjoy the scenery from the open-air bath. The meals are buffet-style, with a wide variety and generous portions for both dinner and breakfast, so you should be satisfied. With the Onsen and sauna to enjoy as well, a longer stay at the Hotel (check-out at 11:00) might be ideal. The only drawback was that it was difficult to adjust the air conditioning at night.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    We chose this Accommodation because the Reviews were great. The staff went above and beyond our expectations, making this a truly wonderful trip. We were very satisfied with the amazing views and delicious food. Thank you very much for today! We would love to visit again, bringing our son who couldn’t make it on short notice.

    We were extremely satisfied!!

    We stayed for two nights in the “Ocean-side / Two Types of Japanese-Western Room.” It felt like the first time in a while that I’d stayed at a truly 100/100 Hotel. [Location] We explored the town thoroughly and even visited a recommended café with a view overlooking the town from the mountains, but the Matsushima view from our room at this Hotel was more beautiful than from any sightseeing spot! [Dining] For dinner, we chose the kaiseki-style course at the restaurant—and it was absolutely the right choice!! Every dish was exquisitely seasoned; I felt it was on par with what you’d get at a top-class traditional restaurant. Breakfast also offered a well-balanced selection of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and each item was deliciously prepared. If everything is this consistently good, I couldn’t help thinking that the executive chef must be exceptional. [Staff] Everyone’s service was wonderful. In particular, Mr./Ms. S, who took care of us at dinner on the first night, not only explained each dish but also gave us sightseeing tips. The next day we followed those recommendations and were able to visit all of the main attractions very smoothly. Mr./Ms. S, thank you very much. The weather wasn’t great that day and the sky over Matsushima looked gloomy (I’ve attached a photo taken from inside during a brief sunny spell on day two), but because we were so satisfied with this Hotel, it still turned into a truly lovely trip. Thank you to everyone at the Hotel.

    Stunning views

    The view from the Room was truly amazing. The Room amenities were also excellent. I was especially impressed that the wash area was fully stocked with paper hand towels—something you don’t often see. The meals were wonderful as well, with a wide variety of dishes that never got boring. One small thing I noticed was the slipper area at the large public bath. Since there didn’t seem to be a designated place to put them (or I couldn’t find it), many slippers were left scattered around where people take them off. It might be helpful to add something like numbered clips or a slipper rack. It was a fantastic Ryokan!

    I stayed here while ...

    I stayed here while sightseeing in Matsushima. Above all, the view of Matsushima Bay from the Room was outstanding, and I fully enjoyed the breathtaking scenery as it changed throughout the day. The Room was also well cleaned, making for a comfortable stay. On the other hand, some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, so I hope to see renovations in the future. As for dining, I had high expectations after seeing strong reviews in travel YouTuber videos beforehand, but personally it felt more like a well-organized buffet that was above average rather than an especially memorable feast. That said, being able to sample a wide variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes little by little is appealing, and I think guests of all ages can be satisfied. Also, since the all-you-can-drink Plan limited certain brands, I ordered my preferred drinks separately; however, I found those prices somewhat high. Overall, I think this Accommodation’s greatest strengths are its location and views that let you fully enjoy Matsushima’s scenery. While there were a few minor points that stood out to me, my stay was comfortable and generally satisfying.

    Breathtaking Views of Matsushima

    I stayed for one night with a friend. The view from the Room was truly wonderful. It was cloudy, but the next morning it cleared up and we enjoyed an even more amazing景色. The meals were average, with many Asian-style dishes, but they were tasty. I was surprised that the Hotel staff were so young. I was also surprised that they were all Japanese employees. The young Japanese staff were very pleasant and welcoming, and it really felt like experiencing Japan. In places like Ito, Hakone, and Atami there are many foreign staff as well—which is fine—but I’m happier when young Japanese staff welcome me at a Hotel! Keep up the good work—I’m cheering you on!

    Everything was attentive and well taken care of, from the front desk to the dining staff. The meals were elaborate and very delicious. The Room also had a great view from the 5th floor. I think this Hotel’s staff training is among the best. I had a fun and comfortable day.

    This time, four women in their 70s, including my mother, stayed here. The Japanese-style Room had an amazing view—like a postcard. The large public bath also features an open-air bath with a direct view of the ocean. They said they were very satisfied with both the breakfast and dinner buffets. The free Shuttle Service from the station was also very helpful. I made the booking, but seeing how happy my mother and her friends were—meeting again for the first time in decades—made me truly glad we chose to stay here. Everyone praised it and said they want to come again next year!

    Accommodation for the Last Day of Golden Week

    We stayed on the last day of Golden Week. It was our first time staying in Matsushima, and to sum it up, this was a wonderful Ryokan that made us truly feel, “We will definitely come again.” From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. The guidance for parking, help with our luggage, and the service from the entrance to the front desk were all extremely courteous and efficient—it had been a long time since we’d been welcomed so pleasantly at an Accommodation. What stood out most was each staff member’s attentiveness. Even when we were simply looking around inside the building, someone would naturally ask, “Is there anything you need?” Their greetings were bright and energetic yet still polite. We felt genuine hospitality beyond what any manual could provide. These days, a Ryokan with such thorough training is truly rare. We chose the seafood course for dinner, and honestly it exceeded our expectations. Not only was everything delicious, but the timing of each dish, attention to hygiene, and thoughtful service were outstanding. Our children enjoyed themselves from start to finish. On top of that, a staff member proactively offered to take commemorative photos for us, which made us very happy. We felt that this kind of human warmth is what gives this Ryokan its true value. The view of Matsushima from both the baths and our room was also amazing. Because it is located on higher ground, it offered not only beautiful scenery but also a sense of security—we were able to relax completely. This Accommodation naturally made us think, “This must be what a Ryokan that lasts for generations is like.” It’s rare these days to have an all-Japanese staff team as well; their attentive service and overall atmosphere are part of what makes this place so special. The festival-style games also became a wonderful memory for our children. We’re truly glad we chose to stay here on the last day of Golden Week. We will definitely return. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

    At check-in, some guests were escorted to their Room, while others were only given a key. The ocean-side twin Room in Shofukaku has a very small washbasin area and toilet—similar to a business Hotel—so those who are sensitive about space may want to avoid it. The view from the open-air bath is excellent, but it was disappointing that it is not an Onsen.

    Spectacular views from the second-floor Room

    Even though our Room was on the second floor and we didn’t expect much of a view, it was breathtaking. We stayed at another Hotel the day before, but because the Room number felt unlucky, the Room somehow seemed gloomy. However, Hotel Matsushima Taikanso had well-stocked amenities, and both the semi-private dining area and the food were excellent. Of course, the view from our Room was stunning.

    We were completely satisfied with the food, service, and Facilities!! It made our trip wonderful!

    First of all, I was very happy that you upgraded the Room I had booked—thank you so much. Whenever we met the staff in the hotel, everyone greeted us with a smile, and we were able to spend our time comfortably. During meals, the chef spoke to us in a friendly way, and the other staff kindly checked in often about drinks and other needs, which we really appreciated. The tables were also separated by partitions, so we could enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. The Japanese-style seafood buffet was excellent—everything from sashimi and sushi to tempura and simmered fish was delicious. At the Japanese/Western/Chinese buffet restaurant, there was live piano music that we could watch from the upper lobby floor. I took a chance and requested a song, and they kindly played it for us—it truly moved me and became a wonderful memory. The guest Room had been renovated as well, so it was clean and comfortable. The bath was amazing too—the view of Matsushima from the open-air bath was beautiful and felt wonderfully spacious. We stayed for one night, but we were so satisfied that it made us want to stay longer.

    Wonderful

    I stayed for one night on 3/7. When choosing the Room, it said it might be a little small, but it didn’t bother me at all. It also mentioned the view might not be great, but this was a wonderful Room with a full view of Matsushima Bay—I felt lucky. The seafood buffet was very delicious and everything was fresh. I’m only sorry I couldn’t eat it all! I’ll try again next time. I traveled with my grandchild, and they kindly set up the beds for us. All of the staff greeted us with smiles, which made my grandchild very happy. I’ll be back again. Thank you very much.

    We made wonderful memories.

    It was a trip with my daughter. In the cold wind, as we waited for the bus in front of the Hotel and saw two young staff members welcoming us, I felt it was a good Hotel. The staff were cheerful and friendly while being polite and pleasant. The view of Matsushima Bay from our Room, with its ever-changing scenery, was mesmerizing, and we found ourselves gazing at it over and over again. The dinner buffet on both days was very luxurious, and my daughter and I couldn’t help but smile as we enjoyed the delicious food together. The chefs were great at recommending dishes! We left feeling full of delicious food! It became a memorable trip for us. Thank you so much! What I found disappointing was that the soup tasted too salty for me. Also, the toothpaste in the Room seemed insufficient for two uses (morning and night).

    We had a great time.

    After admiring the breathtaking view from the Room, enjoy a seafood buffet for dinner and a breakfast buffet. The flavors not only highlighted the quality of the ingredients but also reflected the time and care taken to bring out their best. It was truly satisfying.     A buffet that will leave you completely satisfied.

    The view of Matsushima from the Room is excellent, with chairs set facing the window. It is recommended to check in while it’s still bright for a better view. Unfortunately, it was cloudy the next day. I would like to visit again during summer when the days are longer. The quality and variety of the buffet were outstanding, leaving me completely full.

    The view from the window is stunning!

    Thank you for your hospitality. The top-floor sea-facing room offered a stunning view of Matsushima, which was truly wonderful. The open-air bath also had a great view and was very relaxing. For meals, the dinner was a Japanese course, and breakfast was a buffet—both were delicious. The shuttle bus from Matsushima-Kaigan Station was very convenient.

    The view from the room was absolutely stunning. You can also overlook Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots, from the open-air bath. The seafood sushi at the dinner buffet and the seafood porridge at breakfast were delicious. The women's sauna had a unique bowl-shaped cold bath, which was refreshing and enjoyable. Although it might be an older building, it is a spacious hotel that left us very satisfied. The majority of guests were Japanese, which was comforting as we were feeling a bit fatigued by inbound tourism during our trip. The hotel's shuttle bus made rounds, allowing us to leave our car and enjoy sightseeing conveniently. When we looked at the map for guidance, a staff member kindly gave us advice to explore efficiently. We would love to stay here again if we have another opportunity!

    With a one-year-old child

    We stayed at the accommodation with our one-year-old, traveling by train. The room offered a stunning view of Matsushima, which was wonderful. The facility was stroller-friendly, making it very convenient for families with children. The staff were incredibly kind—offering to take photos in the lobby, promptly providing a baby bath during cleaning in the bathing area, and warming up baby food at the dining venue. Their attentiveness made our trip truly special. The meals were enjoyable with plenty of seafood options to savor. The bathing area had a spacious changing room and even a baby bed, allowing us to relax comfortably. Although we were initially anxious about traveling with a child, this was such an amazing hotel that we would love to stay again someday. Thank you very much!
