We enjoyed the soothing sound of the river and the hot spring.
This is a place where you spend your stay with only oil lamps—there is no electricity. There is no mobile signal, and there are no power outlets in the rooms. Some reviews mentioned that the hot spring is lukewarm, and it may indeed feel a bit on the cooler side. However, because it was slightly lukewarm, I could soak for a long time and really enjoy it. One of the open-air baths was mixed-gender, but they set aside women-only hours, so I was able to enjoy it then. Also, there are no showers—only wash buckets—so washing long hair may be difficult. There’s no hair dryer either, so your hair will have to air-dry; if that bothers you, it might be better to skip washing for a day. It also made me realize how convenient showers usually are. At dinner, refills of rice and soup were unlimited. They served side dishes that paired well with rice, and I happily went back for more—it was delicious. That said, the dining room was also lit only by lamps and felt quite dim at night, so it was disappointing not to be able to see the food clearly. Breakfast had fewer items than dinner, but rice and soup refills were also unlimited, and everything tasted great. Staying with only lamp light was a truly rare and memorable experience.

Anyone who wants to stay here is a kind of eccentric—someone who enjoys a digital detox and the pleasure of having nothing. So for individual Facility scores, “1” is actually a high score because it fits the purpose. I had an amazing time.

Accommodation offering relaxation with the sound of a flowing river and autumn leaves.
We arrived by car. The steep slope and distance from the parking lot to the accommodation made it quite challenging, especially with suitcases. The accommodation itself was clean and well-maintained, including the room, toilet, and bathroom, which made for a pleasant stay. The lamps placed throughout created a unique atmosphere that was very charming. However, I did wonder how other guests spent their time in the dimly lit rooms aside from enjoying the onsen. It was refreshing to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in a remote mountain area where even smartphones couldn't be used, surrounded by the sound of a flowing river and autumn leaves. I would love to visit again once the open-air bath is restored.
