  The meals are excellent.

  I’m enjoying retirement and return to Japan twice a year (we usually live in Los Angeles), spending a month visiting Onsens with my American husband. His favorite is a famous Accommodation in Kinosaki Onsen, but even he said the food here was exceptionally delicious. We enjoyed two days of truly tasty meals—not just generous portions and many dishes, but outstanding flavor—and it made for a very satisfying Onsen trip. Transportation was inconvenient, but the food was so good it made us forget the inconvenience! Also, as coffee lovers, this was the first time we’ve been able to enjoy authentic coffee at an Onsen Ryokan. This is an Onsen Accommodation we definitely want to stay at again every year before our trip to Kinosaki Onsen. Also, the shampoo and conditioner in the Onsen smelled wonderful and left my color-treated hair smooth—I was very happy with them! Compared with Kinosaki Onsen, the proprietress and staff here were incredibly kind. I hope everyone gets to enjoy the same positive experience we did.

  It was delicious.

  The local crab was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the Onsen while watching the sunset, then savored a wonderful meal afterward. I would love to visit again.

  A Wonderful Stay

  Our family of three stayed for one night and two days. The staff were very kind and provided flexible support and assistance. The property is also close to the sea, which our child really enjoyed. The food was delicious and generous in portion size, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an excellent stay, and we would love to return.

  Disappointed

  The Room felt clean, as you’d expect after a renovation, and the view was excellent. However, I was disappointed by the lobby’s guesthouse-like atmosphere, and it was unpleasant to change into slippers that someone else had worn. Above all, the food seemed to have no creativity in either taste or presentation—I couldn’t tell where the chef’s skills were showcased. When I stayed before, the proprietress came to the Room to greet us, but this time she did not. At checkout, there was no help with our luggage and no send-off.

  I had set my expectations too high.

  I was a bit disappointed by the retro Showa-era atmosphere when I entered the entrance. The Room was spacious, but it was easy to tell which areas had been renovated and which had not. I couldn’t tell what brand the coffee provided was, and I didn’t feel like using the cups. It was disappointing that there was no after-meal coffee, and breakfast the next morning was cold, so even the fish wasn’t tasty. The only thing I truly enjoyed was that dinner was delicious.

Meals are one of the pleasures of travel, and we deeply regret that we could not provide them in a satisfactory condition.   The Room and the meals are excellent.

  The renovated Room was wonderful, with a front-row view of the sunset sinking into the sea. The in-room bath was also spacious and came with a separate washing area. The meals were very delicious—just as you would expect from a cuisine-focused Ryokan. If I had to mention one thing, it would have been even better if the laundry facilities were available; it was cool this time so we didn’t sweat much and didn’t need them, but they are apparently only available during the sea-bathing season.
