  All-inclusive

  All drinks were free under the all-inclusive plan. However, even with the creative French dinner, we had to choose from a fixed selection of beverages; there was only one white wine and one red wine, and there was no champagne or sparkling wine. Since such wonderful dishes were served, I would have liked more explanations about the ingredients and cooking methods, as well as to hear the chef’s thoughts behind the cuisine. It would have been even better if there had been someone in charge of beverages (even if not a sommelier), along with optional paid drinks or a pairing menu to match each course. For breakfast, the tableware—such as pieces by Seirin Ichikawa—was coordinated with Kutani ware, and instead of the typical clay-pot rice often served at breakfast, we had onigiri, which were delicious. The bathroom was private-use only, but the air conditioning did not work and it was extremely hot. The guest room had many steps and level changes, and I often stumbled.
