  The Ryokan’s atmosphere, interior design, and our Room were all wonderful, making this a truly memorable birthday trip. Above all, the staff were exceptional—kindly checking in on us and even waving until we were out of sight when we left, which made us feel genuinely happy and welcomed. We would love to stay again.

  The Perfect Place to Stay When Visiting Naoshima

  I visited with a friend while we were touring art museums. We were contacted several times before our stay, and the phone support was very pleasant. We also considered staying at a Hotel inside a museum, but we chose Ro Kasumi because we wanted to spend a calm, relaxing time. They provided Shuttle Service from the port to the museum and from the bus stop to the next museum, and chatting with the cheerful, fun driver became a great memory. The meals were excellent in both quality and quantity. Since you need to go outside from your Room to reach the dining area, it was a bit cold depending on the season. Similarly, I wished the shower area by the open-air bath in the Room had been a little warmer—but thanks to that, we ended up soaking in the tub longer (laughs). For two women traveling together, having two sinks and bright lighting was really nice. We could truly feel their commitment to heartfelt hospitality. We made wonderful memories on Naoshima. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

  Two senior couples visited Naoshima for the first time!

  We stayed in two rooms, the Kasumi Suite and the Junior Suite. While the service was adequate, there were some disappointing aspects, particularly during dinner. We wanted to enjoy craft beer since we had come all the way to Naoshima and Okayama, but despite it being on the menu, only small bottles of Asahi beer were available as the craft beer was sold out. Additionally, when we ordered a bottle of wine later on, it turned out to be from Kofu rather than Okayama, which was also disappointing. This time we dined at the counter; while this might be a modern style I’m not familiar with, I found it odd that there was no greeting or interaction from the chefs behind the counter—they served in silence. For our second round of drinks at the lobby lounge after dinner, we enjoyed some after-dinner drinks; however, there wasn’t much atmosphere as it felt like just us four drinking alone without any staff presence around. Overall, while we had high expectations for this accommodation due to its reputation and interior design focus, unfortunately our experience left us feeling somewhat disappointed beyond just its aesthetics.
