I expected too much.
The Reviews were good, and I went with high expectations for both the meals and the Accommodation, but the price of 130,000 yen doesn’t match what you get. Nothing particularly unpleasant happened, but there was no sense of being impressed either, and I didn’t feel it was worth the cost. It also didn’t “make up for it” with the food as some other Reviews suggested. The building feels old—like visiting a tacky older man’s Room who has a bit of money. I expected at least the cuisine to be outstanding, but for anyone used to dining in central Tokyo, it felt quite ordinary. Even considering recent increases in accommodation prices, at this rate I can stay at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko. One young female staff member was exceptionally good; she was the only service that felt appropriate for this price range. I hope the owner pays her a salary that reflects her level of service.

Thank you for your kind support.
This was my first visit, and I was able to arrive without getting lost using the navigation system. I wasn’t sure where to park my car. After check-in, I mentioned it, and a staff member kindly moved my car for me, so I was able to leave smoothly. The Accommodation had a lovely atmosphere and felt very clean. The staff were courteous, we had enjoyable conversations, and I had a very comfortable stay. The in-room bath was amazing—better than it looked in the photos! The hair dryer and hair iron were ReFa products and very easy to use. Since I have long hair, drying it usually takes time, but with the ReFa dryer I could dry it stress-free. It was a shame that I could only use one of the two private baths—I should have made an earlier Reservation. Both dinner and breakfast showed thoughtful creativity in the menu. Everything was delicious, and I ate a lot! Although I knew check-out was at 10:00, things felt rushed after breakfast and we ended up right at the last minute. If check-out were at 11:00, there would be more time to relax and enjoy the Accommodation a bit more. I also enjoy traveling solo, so if the price for single occupancy were a little lower, it would feel easier to visit more casually. Thank you for your consideration!

The hospitality is excellent.
From check-in to the lounge and meals, the staff were consistently courteous and friendly. The dishes were beautifully presented, making us look forward to each next course. We also felt the drink menu was reasonably priced. The breakfast rice cooked in a pot was truly delicious, but neither of us eats that much, so we ended up leaving some, which was a shame. A couple of points for improvement: when using the bath in our Room, there was no basket for clothes, so we weren’t sure where to put what we took off. Also, when going to the private bath, we had to bring towels from our Room; it would be better if towels were provided at the private bath. I assume the private bath is a renovated former public bath area, but since every Room has an open-air bath, I wondered whether a private bath is necessary. We thought it might be more convenient if it were instead a public bath available at any time. (That said, since this Accommodation is likely designed as a secluded retreat for two people, please disregard this point.) Also, because the free lounge closes at 5:00 p.m., we felt you can’t really enjoy it unless you check in at 3:00 p.m. Overall, it’s a very comfortable Accommodation and we would like to stay again. We plan to return in October with our daughter and dog.

Dining that far exceeded expectations
About 10 days before the Obon holidays, we decided to go to Nasu and hurriedly made a Reservation on IKYU at an Accommodation that still had availability. When we arrived without much prior research, we were a bit taken aback by how narrow it was—there wasn’t even space to pull up at the entrance—and the building felt like an older Facility that had been renovated into a Hotel. The shared spaces inside the Hotel were also small, and the interior design wasn’t really to my taste. However, the Room we were shown was perfectly designed for a relaxing stay-in trip, and the open-air bath taking up about one-third of the Room was incredibly soothing, with excellent water quality. What surprised me most this time was dinner. Japanese cuisine and Italian cuisine—created in collaboration by different head chefs—came together not in a gimmicky way, but as a beautifully harmonious course that flowed naturally from dish to dish. The ingredients were outstanding, of course, but you could also tell how carefully each plate had been prepared. It moved us far beyond our expectations. Among Accommodations in this class, it was easily one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Any negatives about the building or interior disappeared instantly. Thanks to the staff’s hospitality as well, we were able to spend an exceptional time here. Thank you very much. PS: If I could mention just one area for improvement, it would be the towels. Having stayed at many Accommodations, I believe towel quality is one of the most important points alongside Onsen. This time, they did not feel particularly pleasant against the skin. When you step out of a bath and wrap yourself in soft, fluffy towels while drying off, it truly makes you feel happy. I’d also appreciate having three towels in the Room if possible—and having towels prepared at private baths as well would be very helpful. Improving buildings can be difficult, but towels are something that can be changed—so I hope they can be brought up to the same level as your cuisine.

The dogs will be delighted.
We were warmly welcomed. The dogs were very satisfied as well. The food seemed to be very delicious. Of course, we also enjoyed the delicious meals. The hot water was great, and we relaxed with the massage chair and stone sauna. Thank you very much.

It was an Accommodation where adults could relax at a leisurely pace.
On a simple whim to visit Nasu Highlands, this Accommodation caught my eye. The service was prompt and very polished. The Room was clean, uncluttered, and relaxing. The in-room free-flowing Onsen seemed to be from the same source as the Imperial Villa. My wife requested a massage and was happy that it relieved her fatigue. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with explanations provided, featuring local ingredients. If we return to Nasu in another season, we will definitely stay again. Thank you very much.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
Everything was wonderful, and I was especially impressed by how spacious the private bath was. Of course, the bath in the Room was also very relaxing, the meals were delicious, and the staff were kind and attentive—I loved everything. If I could make just one indulgent request, I would appreciate it if you could offer more savory snacks in the lounge (I wouldn’t mind paying for them), rather than only sweet items.

It was a great Accommodation with wonderful people. I’d love to visit again.
I love Onsen, and a few times a year I stay at Accommodations around Japan with Rooms that have private open-air baths. Because I’m usually busy, what I look for in a trip is an escape from everyday life, effortless relaxation without having to be considerate of others, and—most of all—the quality of the spring water. From the staff’s demeanor and the way they spoke to us, their sincere hospitality really came through. The furnishings and appliances in particular were beyond satisfying—truly attentive in every detail—and I could feel the care that went into everything. It was so comfortable that I didn’t feel any inconvenience at all. The meals were elaborate, beautifully presented on lovely tableware, and the portions were just right even for someone like me who doesn’t eat much—though some men might find it a bit light. I was worried whether I’d be able to finish the late-night ramen, but it was delicious (lol). When choosing an Accommodation, I inevitably rely on information from the website and Reviews. I was a little confused this time as well; these may be areas that have changed, but I hope this helps future guests. - Reviews mentioned alcohol in the Room refrigerator, and the Accommodation also stated “Beer is provided in the suite Room refrigerator,” but there were only soft drinks. - The “secret door” shown on the website wasn’t introduced or mentioned when we left, which was disappointing. - The lounge is listed as available from check-in until 17:30, but last order is 17:00. This time, snacks had already been cleared away by around 16:50. Perhaps because of the short hours, it was crowded during the 4 p.m. hour and seating felt congested. Unusually for this class of property, there was no welcome drink offered at check-in; rather than timed free drinks, I would have liked to relax without watching the clock. - The bath in our Room was spacious and comfortable; however, the water flowing in was cold and only dripped slowly. Even when it overflowed there was no additional flow added—it seemed to circulate within the tub. Is temperature control applied? This may be my misunderstanding, but it felt different from what I expected from “free-flowing hot spring water,” which was very disappointing. It would have been helpful if this had been explained on the website. Including the private bath(s), floating matter and slipperiness were also noticeable. This is certainly not an inexpensive Accommodation, so expectations naturally rise. Everyone looks for different things when traveling; however, when reality falls below what’s conveyed beforehand online—even slightly—overall satisfaction inevitably drops. Because it is pet-friendly—a rarity among luxury Accommodations—I get the impression its overall ratings are higher for that reason as well. I love animals myself; if there’s space available then pets staying here relaxing in the lounge would be more than welcome—and it’s also a shame I didn’t get to meet any cats—but…

This time, I stayed at Tsuki no Akari.
This was my second visit, following my stay in May. The kaiseki cuisine centered around teppanyaki served in a private dining room, the attentive service from the staff, the Onsen, and the atmosphere of the Room were all wonderful! I would love to visit again.

Disappointing
I chose this property because the Reviews were good and was really looking forward to it, but the food was a bit disappointing. First, the dinner time was mistaken, which made me uneasy. I received a call to my Room, but I think you should confirm before contacting guests. For breakfast, the miso soup was meant to be warmed at the table. I was told, “I will remove the lid, so please don’t touch it,” but it was forgotten and ended up boiling over. I would have liked it served at an appropriate temperature. I understand it may be unavoidable due to the Room layout, but ants even came onto the bed, so countermeasures are needed. The private bath was very spacious and comfortable. I kept thinking that if it were a large public bath, I would have used it many times.

Below expectations
I was disappointed that I did not feel a warm welcome upon arrival. The Room was small and uncomfortable, and there were no shared spaces outside where I could relax. After dinner, there was nothing to do but lie down on the bed and sleep, which did not feel like a healthy way to spend the evening. The front desk was always unattended, giving me the impression that there were not enough staff and they were unable to keep up. Compared with other Onsen Ryokan, I felt the service was lacking.

It was a wonderful Accommodation with a unique atmosphere.
The interior, furnishings, and meals were all filled with the owner’s unique sense of style and playful touches (the classic black telephone and the hammock in the hallway were wonderful), making our stay both enjoyable and relaxing. In the spacious open-air bath in our Room, we soaked in the Onsen at a leisurely pace while gazing at the greenery outside, and afterward we were able to comfortably ease our travel fatigue in the massage chair in the Room. The meals were full of surprises, with Japanese cuisine and French-inspired flavors appearing alternately, and each dish was beautifully presented on lovely tableware—every time a plate was brought out one by one, we couldn’t help but exclaim “Wow!” Every menu item was perfectly seasoned and portioned, and everything was delicious. It seemed that chefs from various culinary backgrounds were involved, so there was a wide range of dishes to enjoy. All of the staff were very kind, and whenever we seemed unsure of what to do, they would quietly appear to help us. Thanks to their excellent service, our stay became even more memorable. Thank you very much.

A Hidden Retreat for Adults
1) Room & amenities The Room had toiletries such as toner and lotion, and there was also a separate set of amenities in small pouches. The hair dryer and iron were ReFa. The Room also had an open-air bath, and everything felt clean and well maintained. 2) Hospitality & service We arrived by car and were greeted at the entrance, with staff helping carry our luggage. As others have mentioned, the welcome drinks exceeded expectations. All drinks and snacks were complimentary; I enjoyed a beer, and there were also wine, juice, light bites, and more—perfect for relaxing. 3) Onsen / bath There is a private bath available, but since the Room has its own Onsen water supply, that was more than enough for us. The open-air bath felt wonderfully spacious. 4) Facility & equipment Designer chairs were placed throughout—perhaps the owner’s personal taste. With thoughtfully separated spaces, it felt like an adults-only hideaway-style Accommodation. 5) Meals We were satisfied with everything. While dinner alone might feel a bit light for some men, we appreciated the 9:00 PM “late-night ramen” service delivered to our Room. 6) Overall satisfaction This Accommodation offers great value with well-balanced pricing, service, and food. It helped us unwind from everyday work fatigue, and all staff members were courteous and attentive.

A truly comfortable and reassuring Accommodation filled with warm hospitality.
I have stayed here several times, and every time the Room, Onsen, and meals exceed my expectations, making for a truly wonderful stay. When traveling with my elderly parents, our choice of Accommodation is inevitably limited, but at this Accommodation we could relax with complete peace of mind, and everyone felt genuinely at ease. The staff are very kind, and their warm, thoughtful hospitality toward guests can be felt throughout. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again. Thank you very much for providing such a lovely time. I look forward to staying with you again.

The bathrobe is too worn out.
The delicious meals and wonderful Onsen were very satisfying. However, the bathrobe was so worn out that it was disappointing. Also, I believe the “all-inclusive” advertised on IKYU is being used with a different meaning.

A dog-first accommodation
We stayed here as a family, including our dog, to celebrate my husband’s birthday. From the advance phone consultation to the kind support from all staff on the day, everything was thoughtful, and we truly enjoyed our Multiple Night Stay in comfort. We also added the teppanyaki option for two days, and both the seafood and meat were far better than expected for the price. Since my husband has high blood pressure, we requested reduced salt, and every dish was still delicious. Our dog seemed to love the teppanyaki meat as well. If possible, it would be wonderful to have an additional option not only for a dog dinner but also breakfast (it may be possible if asked). The two types of private baths were also very relaxing. It was a little disappointing that reservations aren’t available in the morning, but since there is an Onsen in the Room as well, we were completely satisfied. Both of us love Onsen and saunas, so it was great to enjoy both during cold February weather. The outdoor air bath had that special winter charm with light snow in the air, and while the sauna temperature isn’t extremely high, being able to do löyly made it incredibly refreshing. Our dog seemed to like the Onsen too and looked very comfortable soaking in it. Although it wasn’t intentional, we accidentally damaged a sauna handle. When we contacted you, you kindly checked whether anyone had been injured—we felt truly sorry for causing trouble. Your considerate words meant a lot to us and were very reassuring. Thank you again for a wonderful 2 nights and 3 days—we made great memories with our dog and my husband. Our dog received so many compliments like “cute” and “so well-behaved,” that he may have been even more satisfied than we were (laugh). My husband and I are already talking about visiting again during autumn foliage season. Reservations seem quite competitive, but this is an excellent Accommodation that I would recommend at least once to any family who values time spent with their dog. If we have another chance to stay with you again, we look forward to it sincerely."""

Highly Satisfying Accommodation
Eternal Accommodation Annex Kagerou no Tsuki Staff, Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful time. We deeply appreciate your warm hospitality towards my mother, who has difficulty walking, and our demanding dog. The fatigue of this year was healed in just one night. The room and meals were absolutely satisfying at this accommodation. We look forward to visiting again someday. Thank you for everything. This is the best accommodation!

A good Ryokan, but here is a critical review for future improvement.
Visited for a special occasion. 1. Room: Chose a pet-friendly room. It was quite luxurious, but there was a noticeable pet odor and a meaty smell in the theater room. If the current soundbar becomes outdated, upgrading to one with better acoustics might be nice (just my personal suggestion, feel free to ignore). 2. Service and Facility: I had seen various YouTube videos beforehand, so I was expecting welcome drinks and homemade potato chips, but unfortunately, there were none during my stay. The homemade potato chips (priced at 300 yen?) are very delicious and would make an excellent welcome snack again. The complimentary sparkling wine in the room was appreciated; however, it was disappointing that red and white wines were unavailable this time. Other drinks seemed unchanged (still complimentary with plenty of options). The beer server at the Onsen was reportedly broken; it might be better to either repair or remove it. 3. Onsen: The semi-open-air bath in the guestroom is said to use natural hot spring water directly from the source; however, with a heater? It felt quite hot. Additionally, around 10:30 AM, the hot spring flow stopped unexpectedly—this caught me off guard. The private Onsen baths were also fairly hot overall but included one lukewarm bath that allowed for longer soaking—this was enjoyable for those who prefer milder temperatures. 4. Meals: Enjoyed teppanyaki dining in private rooms for both dinner and breakfast—it was delicious! Thank you for accommodating my partner’s many food preferences; they were very satisfied as well! However, having a wine list alongside recommended alcohol options would be helpful since we ordered without knowing prices beforehand—it could prevent potential complaints during checkout. 5. While my review may seem overly critical at times, this is truly an excellent Ryokan! Many thanks to the manager as well as all staff members including chefs who took care of us during our stay! Although I’m not fond of animals myself—I’d love another chance to visit this Ryokan just to see Tama-chan? (the cat manager) again!

An accommodation where your beloved dog can relax to the fullest.
In May, we stayed for the first time with our dog. Everything was so comfortable that one night wasn't enough, so this time we booked a multiple night stay. The rooms where dogs can stay are very popular, and we were finally able to secure a reservation for multiple nights. Recently, accommodations that allow dogs have increased, but this accommodation is truly relaxing for both humans and dogs. The charm of this accommodation lies in its private spaces being well-maintained and the onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. The quality of the private onsen baths is especially outstanding. The guest room baths also feature natural hot spring water, and you can enjoy the sauna and massage chair anytime you like. In the evening, drinks including alcohol and snacks are available in the lounge. And above all else—the meals are exceptional! You can enjoy teppanyaki in a private room with your dog by your side. This time we had matsutake mushrooms and Ise lobster as part of our meal. The hospitality of the staff was heartfelt, and their selection of sake was delightful as well. Both dinner and breakfast left us completely satisfied. What stands out across everything is the warm hospitality of the staff that creates such a comfortable atmosphere. They were also very kind to our dog—thank you so much! We look forward to staying again in December! We're already excited about it!

Is there another Onsen Ryokan like an auberge?
Since March 2023, we have been staying at this charming accommodation that allows stays with beloved dogs (up to two rooms). This time, we stayed in Room 202, and the facility now includes a private dog run and a space where you can enjoy alcohol and ice cream—absolutely fantastic! Additionally, a new lounge area has been established where various alcoholic beverages and snacks are freely available, which is a delightful addition for us who enjoy a drink. For dinner, the host prepared a special teppanyaki meal for our dog. We enjoyed a delicious meal of meat and lobster (as we are not fans of abalone) and were thoroughly satisfied. This style of cooking is rare to find in accommodations in Eastern Japan that allow stays with dogs. The other Japanese dishes also had a rich, flavorful taste, surpassing those of other accommodations. Moreover, the desserts were of such high quality that they were a series of delightful surprises, unmatched by other facilities.

An accommodation ranked in the top 3 for pet-friendly stays.
I visited an accommodation in the Kanto area where you can stay with many pets, and this place was one of the top 3 accommodations I've ever stayed at. The highlight was the teppanyaki included with the room, which is also served to your beloved dog. It's truly unique, so pet lovers should definitely give it a try!

Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
We stayed for a multiple night stay with our pet, Moko. The staff's efforts to provide the best hospitality were evident everywhere, allowing us to have a very pleasant and happy trip. They were also kind to Moko. Thank you very much. There was just one minor concern. The room felt a bit humid, possibly due to the large bath with a flowing river and the rainy weather. I apologize if this is just my personal preference. The meals in the morning and evening were delicious, and the bath was wonderful. I will make a reservation again when traveling to Nasu. To all the staff, please take care of yourselves and keep up the great work!

I stayed because I was interested in the private teppanyaki room attached to the suite. I was concerned about the fact that dogs are allowed (as I’m not fond of dogs), so I called to confirm and was assured that thorough cleaning is conducted. My worries were unfounded, and I had a comfortable stay. For this room, it was possible to bring lounge food into the room and enjoy it at leisure. Breakfast and dinner were served in the teppanyaki room attached to the suite, and the nightly ramen, prepared by a rotating team of head chefs, was also delivered to the room. This allowed me to relax and enjoy my stay entirely in the room until checkout. It felt more like staying at a private villa than a ryokan. The healing stone couch in the room was so good that my parents are planning to purchase one (laughs). It was a wonderful accommodation where the owner's attention to detail could be felt everywhere. I would love to visit again.

I'm sorry, but I need more context or a complete sentence to provide an accurate translation. Could you please clarify?
We chose this accommodation as a token of our gratitude. The room, open-air bath, and staff service were excellent. However, it was disappointing that there was no response to our prior inquiry. The dinner we were looking forward to was of good quality but had small portions. On the other hand, the Japanese-style breakfast was delicious and very filling. Thank you for your hospitality.
