    A Wonderful, Extraordinary Accommodation

    It may not suit those looking for maximum efficiency, convenience, or luxury, but it’s perfect for solo travelers or couples who want to spend time quietly and leisurely enjoying their meals. The meals focused on quality rather than quantity, which I really appreciated. You stay in a detached annex of a renovated old residence and dine in the main building. If it rains, you’ll need an umbrella to walk between them—but that also adds to the charm. Dazaifu has become overly commercialized and crowded with inbound tourism, so staying somewhere quiet—and being able to attend the Dazaifu morning Shinto ritual from 8:30—was a wonderful, calming experience.

    Excellent service and a wonderful environment.

    The area around the Hotel was very quiet, and the room we stayed in was excellent. We had breakfast for two days; it was delicious and made with local ingredients. The staff were polite and made our stay very comfortable. We would love to visit again.

    Nostalgic yet new

    From the moment we stepped through the noren curtain, it felt special and exciting. The staff were cheerful and friendly, which was wonderful. The Room made me want to live there rather than just stay overnight. We enjoyed a delicious meal while watching the surroundings gradually grow darker. As an extra order, we had foie gras added on top of the meat, and it was excellent. Since it was an all-inclusive Plan, we fully enjoyed some great cocktails. It’s also close to Dazaifu, so we were very satisfied. I’ve already been recommending it to friends.

    You can relax and unwind.

    As last year, I stayed here to visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The Room was spacious, and the cedar plank flooring feels wonderful to walk on barefoot. The hinoki bath had a lovely scent and helped me unwind from everyday fatigue. I also had both dinner and breakfast. The French cuisine could be enjoyed with chopsticks, making it easy for elderly guests to eat, and everything was delicious. Breakfast was a Japanese meal made with locally sourced ingredients; the saikyo-yaki grilled fish and nanbanzuke were especially good.

    A wonderful accommodation with a rich sense of history

    Thank you for maintaining the wonderful main building at the front desk. We could feel the rich history of Dazaifu even from the Accommodation. All staff were very pleasant, and although the guest building is not as old as the front building, the cypress bath was excellent—we were very satisfied.

    A Special Experience Near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

    It’s in an excellent location right next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Because of that, I was able to enjoy the shrine from morning to night—walking the area almost privately, from the morning worship starting at 8:30 a.m. through evening strolls. The Room has a nostalgic feel, wrapped in wood, in a renovated traditional house. It’s so quiet that I didn’t even realize until later that there was no TV. I could hardly hear any noise from the surroundings. The meals were creative dishes made with local ingredients; everything felt new and was delicious. The portions were also very satisfying—I was completely full by the end. With careful explanations of the ingredients and helpful information about nearby events, I had a wonderful time. All the staff were kind, and it was nice to have just the right amount of conversation. Next time, I’d like to stay for a Multiple Night Stay and relax.

    We stayed with four ...

    We stayed with four relatives. It is very close to Dazaifu, making it an ideal location for visiting the shrine. The atmosphere of the traditional house, as well as the front desk reception and dining service, were all excellent. With unlimited drinks available both during meals and in the room, we could relax comfortably without worrying about extra charges. Overall, I think it is a wonderful Hotel. A few points to note for future guests: BAIKA is a short distance (a few hundred meters) from the main building where the front desk and dining area are located. The stairs up to the second floor are fairly steep and may be difficult for older guests. Wi-Fi was hard to connect to; if TV or internet is essential for you, you may be better off choosing a standard Hotel.

    The surprise trip was a huge success.

    I planned a surprise first trip for the two of us. We were very satisfied with the meals, the bath, the Room, and the surrounding area. Each staff member was full of warm humor, and we were truly impressed by their professional service. When we come to Fukuoka together again, we would love to stay here again.

    I stayed for one night and two days.

    It’s very close to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The Room is on the second floor and the stairs are a bit narrow, but the Room is spacious. It was relatively quiet at night, so we were able to relax. Many places around Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine close early, and since we didn’t have a dinner Reservation, it took some time to find somewhere to eat. Next time, I think it would be best to Reserve in advance.

    Your First Trip to Fukuoka

    On our annual trip together, we chose to stay at this Hotel near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for my daughter, who is preparing for a teacher recruitment exam. Before checking in, we decided to stop by Miyajidake Shrine, so we traveled by rental car and needed parking on short notice. The male staff member who assisted us was incredibly kind and thoughtful, and my daughter and I were truly moved. Of course, the female staff members were also very pleasant, so we had a comfortable stay throughout. In the historic guest room, there was no TV or clock, which allowed us to relax without worrying about time and enjoy a wonderful break from everyday life. Soaking in the hinoki bath was incredibly refreshing! It’s a Hotel I would love to stay at again if I have the chance. Thank you very much.

    Highly satisfied.

    We stayed for one night to relax and also visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for the New Year. This was our second stay. Our room this time was located at the back of the restaurant building, so we noticed some voices and noises around meal times. However, it was convenient to go to meals without wearing a coat, which kept us warm and comfortable (laughs). The room's interior and facilities were clean, sophisticated, and very lovely. All the meals were absolutely delicious. The fish dish at dinner was especially amazing—it left a lasting impression! (Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of it... such a shame!) Since we chose an all-inclusive plan, we enjoyed plenty of drinks as well! (Maybe a bit too much laughter.) The staff's service was excellent. In particular, one male staff member showed thoughtful gestures during dinner and even carried our heavy luggage to the parking lot when we left (we had an enjoyable conversation along the way). His kindness truly made us happy. Thank you so much! We definitely want to stay here again in the future. Next time, we'd like to try staying in another room. Thank you very much!

    It was a Hotel I would love to visit again.

    It was my first time staying at a decentralized Hotel, and it was a wonderful opportunity to experience the historic building and feel like living in the town. The meals were also accommodating to allergies, allowing me to enjoy delicious dishes with peace of mind. The staff's warm and thoughtful service was truly appreciated. I would love to stay in other Rooms as well, so I definitely want to visit this Hotel again.

    Accommodation you'd want to recommend to family and friends

    We stayed in Dazaifu for two nights to pray for our son's university acceptance. We had heard through reviews that the accommodation and meals were excellent, but beyond that, the hospitality of the staff and the exclusive nighttime formal visit to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for guests were truly exceptional, making it an unforgettable stay. My husband and I are now considering staying at other hotels in this group as well. Thank you very much!

    It was an accommodation with thoughtful attention to detail.

    Due to the aftermath of the linear rainbands that hit Kyushu, train services were suspended, and I had to transfer between available trains, arriving much earlier than planned. Despite this, I was warmly welcomed for check-in—thank you very much. The accommodation was a renovated traditional house but provided excellent private spaces. I could relieve my travel fatigue by soaking in the cypress bath at leisure. The amenities were thoughtfully prepared with women in mind, which was very helpful. Being located right next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine allowed me to enjoy a morning visit, which was wonderful. Although it was just a one-night stay this time, I plan to book a multiple night stay next time!

    I had a relaxing time.

    The Room was spacious with a modern Japanese-style design. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and served in just the right portions. The convenient access to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine early in the morning was very helpful. Although it is an old house without soundproofing, we did not hear voices or noises from next door. However, the only downside was that on the following morning, cleaning noises echoed, and a dog (possibly next door) kept barking continuously.

    First Decentralized Hotel Experience

    I stayed at a VMG hotel for the first time. This decentralized accommodation is designed by dividing a large traditional Japanese house into several rooms. Both the entrance and the room have locks, ensuring secure accommodations. I stayed in Room 203, which featured a calming wooden interior. The space was thoughtfully designed, utilizing old beams while incorporating new wood for the floors and ceilings, creating an overall serene atmosphere. The cleanliness was impeccable, especially in the bathroom where the walls and hinoki cypress bathtub were remarkably spotless. The front desk was located in a separate building. What impressed me most was the high quality of service. The check-in process was explained clearly, and all my questions were answered accurately. They provided detailed information not only about my stay but also about sightseeing spots in Dazaifu, souvenir shops, dinner menus, and beverages with great care. It was such an excellent experience that I found myself searching for other VMG hotels afterward!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    This accommodation boasts an excellent location, just steps away from the Tenmangu Shrine gate yet removed from the hustle and bustle of the main approach. A beautifully restored traditional house, it combines modern comfort with a cozy atmosphere. The French-style dinner and Japanese breakfast were both delicious, featuring plenty of local ingredients. The sesame mackerel served at breakfast was particularly memorable and lived up to its reputation. One minor drawback was that beyond the lovely garden, signs for a neighboring parking lot and neon lights were visible, slightly disrupting the serene ambiance. Adding bamboo fencing or similar screening could enhance the sense of escape. Even with this small issue, it remains an exceptional accommodation.

    A very warm and welcoming Hotel.

    I found this hotel while looking for accommodation near Dazaifu Tenmangu and decided to stay here! The atmosphere was very calm, and the room was absolutely lovely, making my stay very satisfying. Above all, I am deeply grateful to the staff who kindly interacted with my 1-year-old child during dinner when they wanted to move around. The dining area had a serene and adult-oriented ambiance, and I felt sorry if we caused any inconvenience to other guests. For breakfast, it was prepared in a private room, which was a thoughtful gesture that made me very happy. All the meals were absolutely delightful! The kind consideration of the staff and this wonderful hotel made for a truly relaxing and enjoyable trip. Thank you so much!

    A bit disappointing!

    I stayed for a multiple night stay. At check-in, I was informed that due to the old building, sounds might echo. However, while all guests were quiet, only the footsteps of the staff echoed loudly. Especially during dinner, the noise from their shoes was disruptive and ruined my desire to enjoy a quiet meal. The faucet in the room's sink was broken, which caused significant inconvenience. It seemed like neither room cleaning nor facility inspections had been properly conducted. How could they have cleaned the sink when water stopped immediately? The meals were delicious with beautiful presentation and tableware—such a shame! The staff appeared relatively young and their earnest efforts in customer service were commendable—again such a pity! It's truly unfortunate. I hope to stay again in the future and look forward to improvements.

    A wonderful Property that exudes warmth and a sense of harmony.

    I chose to stay at this Property because I liked the interior design. The amenities, meals, and service were all excellent. I was surprised that the Hotel and the check-in building were separate, but since the distance wasn't too far, it was acceptable. I was delighted that all the drinks in the refrigerator were free! It included alcohol and juice. However, perhaps because I stayed in a Room on the first floor, the footsteps from the second floor were quite loud and a bit disturbing. I heard them in the evening and again around 10 a.m. in the morning. Although the Room was along the roadside, I couldn't hear any noise from outside and had a comfortable stay.

    It was an exhilarating experience.

    The building has been renovated, and the Facility is well-maintained, allowing guests to enjoy a comfortable and classical atmosphere, making it a very exciting experience. (However, as cautioned, footsteps from the neighboring Room and conversations could be heard. Perhaps for this reason, earplugs were provided. Additionally, insect repellent was placed in the Room, suggesting that insects might enter depending on the season.) The service was very courteous, and the meals were extremely delicious. (However, since the dining areas are dispersed, having to walk outside for meals was a bit inconvenient.) The Room was a maisonette type, which might be challenging for elderly guests due to the steps, but it was a lovely Hotel that I would like to stay at again.

    To Dazaifu at the End of the Year

    I was able to take a sudden break, so I visited Dazaifu for the first time in a few years. I took the opportunity to make a reservation here, which I had been curious about for a while. Everything was more wonderful than I imagined, and I had a great time. Even though it wasn't an onsen, I relaxed in a cypress bath with plum bath salts. The amenities were satisfactory without any excess or deficiency. It's rare to find earplugs, which might be good for those who are concerned about the voices or footsteps from the next room. The wool blanket was warm and nice. I had meals both in the morning and evening, and they were very delicious, allowing me to relax. It was my first time at a decentralized hotel, but I really liked it. Since I had plenty of time, I enjoyed walking around the town and trying local gourmet foods. As Tenmangu Shrine was right nearby, I participated in the morning worship and was able to explore during the quiet hours, which was refreshing.

    It was a lovely home.

    This time, I reserved the flat Room Umehana 301 for my elderly mother and me. I was a bit worried about the noise issues and the room being cold, as mentioned in the reviews, but it didn't bother us much. Since there is no room service, being able to "take out from local shops and enjoy a relaxing drink in a lovely room" is a great service for both locals and tourists like us. We had breakfast twice, and each time we enjoyed completely different menus. Both my mother and I usually only have bread and coffee, so having a proper meal like dinner was very delicious. Just one thing, there are many parking lots around, so during the day, there is a lot of traffic, and we needed to be careful when entering and exiting the room. It's rare to stay in a room with a story, and the management of the old building and the staff's response were excellent, so I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

    It is a lovely Stays.

    The building and Facility are very good, I think. The customer service is not bad either. The meals are fairly good, but the breakfast surprisingly lacked a homemade feel and was a bit disappointing. Is it supposed to be an extraordinary experience? However, having a TV, a clock, and a phone connected to the front desk would provide reassurance for guests.

    Convenient for visit...

    Convenient for visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Satisfied with the atmospheric Room and meals, but unfortunately, the soundproofing and vibration from passing cars were more noticeable than expected as I stayed in a Room facing the road. Additionally, the tread depth of the stairs was too shallow, combined with the steep slope, which caused some stress when going up and down.
