It was very good.
All staff were very courteous and attentive. Making Onsen eggs and enjoying them in the lounge was a great experience, and they were delicious. The bath in the Room felt a bit dated, but the large public bath had a variety of baths and was very enjoyable. Both dinner and breakfast were lavish and very tasty. It was a Hotel where we could be fully satisfied without a single unpleasant moment.

The food and service were both excellent.
A few days before my stay, I emailed to check on the impact of the heavy rain, and received a courteous reply with detailed information, which reassured me and allowed me to stay with peace of mind. The dining staff casually shared helpful updates, and the next morning provided even more detailed information. Every staff member was pleasant without being overly formal, making my stay very comfortable.

I visited again for the first time in over 20 years. This time, it was to celebrate my retirement. I was deeply moved to receive a surprise commemorative gift—thank you very much. For dinner, we could choose two dishes each, and while we debated what to pick, my husband and I enjoyed selecting four dishes in total. It was wonderful to be able to try a variety of foods. Thank you very much.

The large public bath was truly relaxing—I could have stayed there all day. Also, there was an issue with a cushion in the Room, but it was replaced immediately, and you apologized politely many times; we felt almost sorry for the trouble. In addition, you provided a Shuttle Service to Awara Station, so even without a car we were able to visit without any stress. What was disappointing was that dinner seemed less tasty than before, and the Wi-Fi signal in the Room was weak. Still, this remains an Accommodation we would like to visit again. Thank you very much.

I was satisfied with everything.
We were kindly offered an upgrade to a special Room. In addition to the wonderful Room, the service was excellent. We truly enjoyed a relaxing vacation. In particular, a front desk staff member (I regret I don’t remember their name) recommended great places for delicious grated soba and apple pie, which my wife and I both enjoyed. It was an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

A Long-Awaited Return to Awara Onsen
On our anniversary trip, we decided to visit Awara Onsen again for the first time in a while. After considering several options, we chose Matsuya Sensen, which was featured first on IKYU—and it was the right choice. We were especially impressed by the fresh and welcoming attitude of the younger staff members. Dinner was delicious; the portions were more than sufficient and the ingredients were very fresh. The grilled dancing abalone in particular was excellent. In addition, to celebrate our anniversary trip, the proprietress kindly gave us a very heartwarming gift, and my wife was truly delighted. We are already using it—thank you very much. If we have the opportunity, we would definitely like to visit again.

The hospitality was exceptional.
All staff were cheerful and energetic, and their service was pleasant. Not too close and not too distant—just the right sense of distance—I felt their hospitality was excellent. We stayed in the separate building on the 3rd floor. The Room even had a massage chair and a Nanoe care device. One thing I noticed was that there was no plastic liner in the Room’s trash bin, so when throwing away wet wipes I felt uneasy and put my own plastic bag in it. The bath was also very good. The large public bath is spacious, so it never felt crowded at all. The meals were delicious, and I could tell the head chef is very attentive from the care put into them. On the last day, they waved handkerchiefs to see us off until we were out of sight, which really moved me. It was a very satisfying three-night stay. Thank you very much.

I love Onsen.
This is a well-known Accommodation in Awara Onsen, and I had high expectations, but I was a bit disappointed. I was satisfied with the Room with an open-air bath. I also had high expectations for the meals, but they didn’t feel particularly local to Fukui or special. I chose this Ryokan after careful consideration, but it left me disappointed.

We had a very relaxing stay.
Thank you very much for your hospitality. The Room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable to use. The sunset view from the Room was also beautiful. The bath was spacious with plenty of washing areas, so we could relax and soak at our leisure. We also really appreciated being able to choose from three options each for the main dish and the hot pot. All of the staff were very kind as well. We would love to visit again if we have the opportunity.

It was very good.
It was a very large Onsen Accommodation, like something you’d see in a TV drama. Despite the size of the Facility, the Room, baths, and hallways were all spotless, and every staff member clearly fulfilled their role professionally—I was impressed. There were two indoor baths (or maybe three) and several open-air baths; it was a wonderful Onsen. The upgraded Room was spacious and clean, with beautiful rice fields stretching out beyond the window—very comfortable. Meals were served in the restaurant rather than in-room, but each table area was separated by partitions and there was plenty of space between tables, so we could dine at a relaxed pace. It was also fun that from 6:00 a.m., a morning market appeared selling seafood products such as overnight-dried fish from Mikuni Port. It was only one night, but it felt like a dream stay where I could truly relax both physically and mentally. I have no complaints at all, though since the fishing port is nearby, I did wish there had been more seafood in the meals (but I understand they likely cater to guests of many ages and preferences). The local sake from Awara Onsen called “Okami” was delicious. I’d love to stay again.

Kaiseki Cuisine After a Long Time
It was my first time in a while staying at a Hotel with a kaiseki course meal. The atmosphere was wonderful, and I was very satisfied. Next time, I’d like to stay with the buffet plan as well. When we travel as a family, we hold video game tournaments, but the TV is small—so please consider upgrading to a larger TV someday (lol).

Your First Awara Onsen
This was our first stay, and it was also our first time visiting Awara Onsen. Perhaps because we checked in on a Sunday, the dining area and the open-air bath were not crowded and very comfortable, and the property remained quiet throughout, which we truly appreciated. Having towels provided in the bath area was convenient, as we didn’t need to bring towels from our Room. The meals were delicious and very filling, including a sashimi boat platter—our child was thrilled. We are grateful to all the staff who served us for their thoughtful care, even toward our child. It had been a while since we slept on futons in a Japanese-style room; the three of us could sleep together comfortably side by side. We were able to sleep in a little and then enjoy a wonderful breakfast. One small point: although we turned the air conditioner off while sleeping, the air still became quite dry. This may only be from winter into spring, but it might have been even more comfortable if we could have borrowed a humidifier.

It was an Accommodation with truly warm hospitality.
I traveled through Fukui with my mother, who is nearly 90, retracing a trip we took when I was a child. She didn’t seem to remember much, but for me it was a wonderful reminder of one of our few family trips. This time we stayed at Matsuya Sensen and had a truly pleasant time. The baths were spacious and very clean, and it was great to be able to use fresh towels and amenities each time—very comfortable. The meals were also excellent. We enjoyed a wide variety of beautifully prepared dishes, which made dining especially enjoyable. My mother thoroughly enjoyed the abalone as well. I tried the three-sake tasting set, and it was fun to compare three clearly distinct sakes. I always want to try new sake, but it’s disappointing when one doesn’t suit my taste, so I really appreciated the proprietress’s selection of three—I enjoyed them very much. Hanagaki was my favorite. Thank you very much.

Moved by our soothing hospitality
My wife, daughter, and I stayed here. We had a relaxing stay thanks to the understated yet heartfelt hospitality in every aspect. We had a crab dinner. The portion was more than enough, but perhaps because the crabs were a bit small, the flavor was not quite as good as expected. The rice at both dinner and breakfast was delicious—we truly enjoyed Fukui’s rice.

It was excellent!!
Shuttle service to JR Awara Onsen Station was provided! There is a Genky (drugstore) about an 8-minute walk away, which was very convenient. The room was upgraded, and there was a welcome drink, making us happy from check-in! It was great to make our own onsen eggs! The onsen had various types and the sauna facilities were excellent. Although the spa services were for women only, I booked a 60-minute oil massage for exfoliation and almost fell asleep during the session. For meals, we reserved crab dishes and enjoyed plenty of delicious crab. Breakfast was also delightful. Inside the onsen area, there were many shampoo options to choose from, which was fantastic! If I may suggest one thing—it would have been nice to have a hair comb in the room. On our way back, we were also given a ride to the station with staff sending us off with smiles. I would love to stay here again if I get another chance!!

Stayed on October 29...
Stayed on October 29th and 30th in a detached room. The staff were very friendly and seemed passionate about hosting guests. On the evening of the 29th, I wasn't feeling well and couldn't enjoy the wonderful meal, so I had to rest in my room immediately. Later, they kindly sent porridge and dessert with my husband, which deeply touched me. The next morning as well, they prepared porridge for me, which I enjoyed very much. I apologize for causing trouble and concern at that time, but thanks to the thoughtful care of the kitchen staff, I had a pleasant stay. Thank you very much! The meals were delicious; however, they were slightly salty for me and made me thirsty—so I rated it a 4 regarding food. Regarding facilities: It was inconvenient that I couldn't wash myself in the bathroom of my room as it was separate from the bath area—so this is also rated a 4. Overall satisfaction is definitely a 5!

Highly satisfied.
The Onsen provided a truly relaxing experience. The meals were delicious, reflecting the chef's dedication to quality and attention to detail, ensuring high customer satisfaction. My daughter (48 years old) accompanied the elderly couple and mentioned, "I've traveled a lot, but this is the first accommodation that left me so satisfied." Although Awara Onsen is not easily accessible from the Kanto region, "Matsuya Sensen" made us want to visit again.

It was a very pleasant stay.
We stayed at the accommodation for the first time to celebrate our married daughter's new life. From the moment we entered the entrance, we were warmly welcomed by the very pleasant staff, which made for a wonderful start to our stay. The room on the 7th floor of Sensenkan was clean and spacious, with a breathtaking view of endless rice fields outside the window that made us gasp in awe! The beautiful sunset over the lush green fields is something we will never forget. (This room is highly recommended!) The meals were carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The fresh abalone, sashimi, and mini steak were especially popular and paired perfectly with drinks. The bath was spacious enough to relax without worrying about others around us. The soft spring water was gentle on our skin, so much so that we enjoyed it three times during our stay. We also received thoughtful hospitality from the lovely young proprietress, making this an unforgettable trip. Thank you so much! We look forward to visiting again during crab season next time!

Hospitality by Our Staff
This was my first stay, and it was an amazing day. The staff's hospitality and attentiveness made my Obon holiday truly enjoyable. I chose the recommended AKB course for the meals, and everything was delicious! I look forward to staying here again.

It was excellent.
From the moment we arrived, our luggage was carried for us, and we were given a thorough explanation about the Room, facilities, and welcome drink hours. The Room was a Japanese-style room with beds. It was spacious, clean, convenient to use, and had separate toilet and bath areas which were very nice. The amenities were well-stocked, but what stood out most was the large public bath area where plenty of bath towels and face towels were provided—no need to bring them from your Room! In the women’s public bath area, there was a wide selection of popular shampoos and conditioners available for free use—a thoughtful touch. The Onsen offered several types of baths ranging from slightly hot to lukewarm temperatures. There were also options like reclining baths and bubble baths that made it an incredibly satisfying experience. (It seems that the women’s Onsen has more services than the men’s.) For meals, we enjoyed a kaiseki course featuring delicious dishes like grilled abalone—it left us completely full! The staff serving our meal provided delightful explanations that added to the experience. By chance, it happened to be on the day of Mikuni Fireworks Festival; watching fireworks from our Room made it even more special!

Relaxing Accommodation
The hospitality of the staff was truly impressive. All the staff spoke with warm smiles, making us feel relaxed. The Onsen was spacious and very clean. We also enjoyed the fun experience of making Onsen eggs. In our 60s, my wife and I agree that this might be the best Ryokan we've ever visited.

The large public bath and changing area were spacious and comfortable, and with the morning market and fortune teller present, it made for an enjoyable stay. A Delightful Stay at the Hotel and Reunion with My Daughter
This was our fourth visit to Mikuni Town to see my daughter who moved here a year ago, and it was our first time staying at "Matsuya Sensen." Both the service and facilities were excellent. My husband, who came along with me, also loved it very much. We definitely look forward to staying here again next time!
