    Thank you for giving me such a valuable experience.

    My first temple Accommodation experience. It was also my first time trying Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, and it was served as a delicious course meal like at a high-end Japanese restaurant. I heard that many international guests used to leave food, so the head chef refined the dishes through trial and error to make them enjoyable for overseas visitors as well. On the day I stayed, about half of the guests were from abroad—clearly very popular. The morning service and the white wisteria in the garden were also wonderful. Thank you for this valuable experience.

    It made me feel warm and comforted.

    I had the pleasure of staying at this temple Accommodation, which is both graciously modest and elegantly refined. Away from the bustle, listening to the sutra chanting helped me reflect on myself objectively and left me with a gentle, peaceful feeling. Thank you very much.

    The hospitality felt more like a luxury Ryokan than a temple lodging. Our Room was upgraded to a special suite, and we were able to relax in the spacious “Hojo” Room overlooking an expansive garden. The shojin-ryori cuisine was beautifully presented and delicious throughout. After dinner, we took a short walk (about 3 minutes) to Danjo Garan. With bonfires lit and the area illuminated, we caught a glimpse of Kobo Daishi’s mandala world through sights such as Konpon Daito, Saito Pagoda, and Kondo Hall. The next morning, we joined the morning service from 6:00 a.m., which felt truly solemn and moving. The Dharma talk by Archbishop Miyata explained Buddhism from a global perspective with humor, making it easy to understand. I strongly feel that Koyasan is best experienced with an overnight stay.     This is a cozy accommodation.

    I stayed for one night with dinner and breakfast included. The shojin-ryori was beautifully presented and very delicious. The bath is shared, but it is spacious and clean. The Room may have been a single-occupancy guest room, so it did not face the beautiful garden and the view was a bit disappointing, but since I was staying at a temple, I suppose that can’t be helped. Overall, I was satisfied.

    温泉と美味しいものでゆっくりしたい

    A Beautiful Garden and Wisteria Blossoms

    We had a soothing, peaceful stay, comforted by the wonderful garden and Room, as well as the iris bath. We also truly enjoyed the hot pot and mizunasu eggplant—they were delicious. Above all, being able to join the morning service and listen to the head priest’s sermon made us feel that visiting Mount Koya—and this temple Accommodation—at an important turning point in our lives was truly worthwhile. The “Toryu Fuji” wisteria, said to have been named by Prince Komatsu-no-miya whom my great-grandmother served, was in full bloom, making it an especially memorable moment. Thank you very much. We would love to visit again when we have the opportunity.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    This was my first stay here. The staff's hospitality was excellent and pleasant. The meals, though vegetarian, were beautifully presented and delicious. The Room was well-prepared, allowing me to relax in the bath and enjoy a comfortable stay. The morning prayer session was also a valuable experience.     It was wonderful.

    This was my first stay at the accommodation, and it turned out to be more comfortable than I had imagined. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The room was clean and comfortable. The heating seemed to be set high, perhaps in preparation for the early morning chill, making it a bit warm during sleep. The morning service and the sermon by the head priest were wonderful. The old white wisteria tree in the garden was magnificent, so I would like to visit again during wisteria season. (When is the best time to see white wisteria?)

    New Shojin Cuisine

    Since it was a special visit to Mount Koya, I chose an accommodation at a temple lodging. Being vegetarian, I have enjoyed traditional Buddhist cuisine at other accommodations and temples before, but the dishes here exceeded all my expectations and surprised me. The meals were so richly crafted and delicious that I almost felt guilty calling them "Buddhist cuisine." The bath was relaxing, and the futon in the room was comfortable enough. Although it’s a bit far, making another visit might be unlikely, but I had a wonderful time here.

    We had a relaxing time.

    Located right next to Kongobu-ji Temple, we were able to leave our luggage and explore freely. The place was very clean, and the bath was delightful. I would love to visit again during the wisteria blooming season.

    The room was clean, and my image of the Stays changed completely. The room had a washbasin and toilet, so it was very comfortable. The vegetarian cuisine was truly delicious, with quality and quantity that made it hard to believe it was only vegetables. I would like to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.

    Modern Stays

    I saw the attractions of Koyasan, such as Okunoin, on TV and wanted to visit once, so I stayed at the end of November when it was getting quite cold. It was my first time staying at a temple lodging, and I was very curious. Since I can't compare it with other properties, this is purely my impression as a general tourist visiting a lodging facility. As far as I could see in the dining hall, about 80% of the guests were foreigners, which surprised me. How to perceive temple lodgings is subjective, but I thought there was room for consideration regarding the comfort of the room and the bath compared to the accommodation fee. The morning service gave me a renewed feeling, and the vegetarian cuisine was simply wonderful. I understand there are various circumstances, but this trip made me feel that the recent surge in accommodation fees is making domestic lodging facilities a distant dream for Japanese people.

    I was concerned that...

    I was concerned that Shojin Ryori might be unsatisfying. However, the dishes kept coming one after another, and they were so delicious that I found myself wondering how the broth was made. I was truly impressed. I also participated in the morning sutra chanting, which had a very refreshing atmosphere, allowing me to reflect on myself and gain a new perspective. I would definitely like to visit again.

    First Stays at a Temple Lodging

    Two mothers with children with disabilities planned a trip to Koyasan, thinking, "Let's leave the children at a short stay facility and go somewhere we can't go with them," and made a reservation at this temple lodging. However, the day before the trip, the other person couldn't go, and it seemed a waste to cancel the reservation, so it turned into a trip with my severely disabled daughter. I was nervous about visiting, wondering what to do if the temple lodging was strict about manners, but it had a very homey atmosphere. When I was wandering around the corridor, a staff member immediately approached me, saying, "Are you looking for the garden? Let me show you." Even when I called to inquire about the return bus that wasn't coming at the Okunoin bus stop, they responded very kindly. It was very close to Kongobuji Temple and the Great Hall, and the illuminated Great Hall we visited after dinner was very magical. The shojin ryori meal was also very luxurious, and my young daughter seemed very satisfied. The autumn leaves were very beautiful this time, so I hope to visit with my family during the white wisteria season next time. Thank you for many wonderful memories.

    Perfect

    The room and meals were both wonderful. When I took a bath around 5:30 PM, the view from the window was like a pine forest folding screen, and it was lovely. I arrived a little late, but there was no unpleasant reaction, and the homely atmosphere made me feel at ease.
