    Were my expectations too high?

    I stayed for a 4-night Multiple Night Stay in a Japanese-style Room by the stream, mainly to do desk work in the Room while enjoying the view. In that respect, the Room was spacious with large windows, and it had a desk and a sit-able ottoman, making it very comfortable. My work went smoothly, and I was very satisfied. The spacious lobby featuring large-scale works by Taro Okamoto, as well as the streamside base area, also offered a relaxing, out-of-the-ordinary atmosphere. The open-air Onsen is set among lush greenery and is designed so you can sit and soak at ease. On the other hand, there were many disappointing points—too many to list—but the most disappointing was having to carry my own luggage to the Room. The path has a gentle but continuous uphill slope, which made it difficult even with a suitcase. I have never experienced this at any other Accommodation before and found it unacceptable. Honestly, it felt below expectations—perhaps my expectations were too high. With such a small number of young staff members, it may be difficult to provide service commensurate with this Accommodation rate. However, thanks to the natural beauty of Oirase Gorge and the comfort of the Room, I gave an overall rating of three stars.

    We enjoyed a truly unique, out-of-the-ordinary experience!

    Thank you for hosting us for two nights. We enjoyed the beautiful nature, the delicious food, and were able to relax and relieve our fatigue in the Onsen. We also really appreciated the all-you-can-drink cider. Thank you very much.

    Great location, and we were able to relax and enjoy a leisurely stay.

    This was my second stay. I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of two nights, and it didn’t feel outdated—I felt the maintenance was excellent. The open-air bath was also very pleasant, and I was able to relax. I wish the Room had a balcony or terrace. I was also disappointed that breakfast on the terrace could not be reserved.

    The Murmuring Stream of Oirase

    One of the best parts was hearing the gentle stream of Oirase through the window from the Room, but it was a bit disappointing that the river was hard to see because it was covered in greenery. Still, we were able to relax at a leisurely pace.

    It felt like the rel...

    It felt like the reliable,安心 Hoshino Resorts experience—spacious, spotless rooms, and plenty to enjoy throughout the property! We used the breakfast and dinner buffets, and there were so many Aomori specialties (the hot apple pie was delicious!) and local dishes that we wanted to try everything and ended up completely full. On the other hand, some guests may be confused by things like buffet reservations being handled via QR code or the shop not accepting cash. By making a Reservation through IKYU, we received drink vouchers, so we could enjoy sake and wine for free at dinner—great value!

    Was the food delicious?

    I thought it was similar to Aomoriya, but with a smaller capacity, so it was simply hard to get a Reservation. Like Aomoriya, it’s a Hotel popular with international guests. The service was especially poor at the front desk. For meals, only the buffet could be reserved, and international guests were eating the whole time. The food itself was delicious.

    Thank you for hosting us again for our second stay.

    I stayed here a year ago, and after making my Reservation more than three months in advance, I was so excited I felt like I’d finally achieved a long-held wish.<br> I arrived more than an hour early, but they kindly checked me in and let me relax in the lobby.<br> Taro Okamoto’s fireplace once again impressed me, and just listening to the clear stream and looking at the beautiful greenery makes you feel far removed from everyday life.<br> The Facility itself hadn’t changed, but Reservations for the Aomori Apple Kitchen are now made online.<br> However, it wasn’t very user-friendly—the displayed wait time suddenly went up or down, making it hard to judge when to go.<br> Some buffet items had changed since last year, and it had improved wonderfully.<br> Rather than forcing apples into dishes, they were incorporated naturally.<br> The staff were also excellent—I truly felt Hoshino Resorts’ hospitality throughout my stay.<br> Thank you as well for your quick help with an unexpected request; I really appreciate it.<br> I’ll work hard so I can come back again.<br> Thank you very much.

    Hospitality

    Set in a lush natural setting, it was very relaxing. It felt luxurious to unwind and enjoy the view from the lovely Room and lobby, and I was deeply moved by the nature seen from the open-air bath. The staff always smiled whenever we passed, making the long trip truly worthwhile. The apple dishes overall and the seafood rice bowl buffet were excellent.

    A great Hotel for enjoying the Oirase Gorge.

    The location was excellent, and I think it was a really great Hotel for enjoying the Oirase Gorge. There was also a lecture about the Oirase Gorge, which was very helpful. As introduced there, I borrowed a magnifying glass to look at the moss and went out to explore. The Hotel shuttle bus was also convenient. The only disappointment was the meals. Maybe my expectations were too high because the Reviews were so good... Also, about how to make a Reservation: I was told to make it in the app 10–15 minutes before my dining time, so for dinner I made a Reservation at 7:00 as instructed. We headed to the restaurant when we were next in line, but we weren’t seated until 8:00 (it seemed that by 8:00 everyone waiting in front of the restaurant had been seated). Since it’s a buffet, many guests seemed to stay and relax for a long time in the restaurant.

    We stayed during Golden Week as a family of four, using two Rooms. This Accommodation offers an exceptional, irreplaceable location at Oirase Gorge, along with the kind of immersive, experience-focused stay Hoshino Resorts is known for. The in-house ambiance, activities, and nature-inspired design are thoughtfully crafted and truly make you feel that coming here was worthwhile. The entire Facility feels upscale and provides a strong sense of escape. Rather than being flashy or overly ornate, it felt like a refined resort that values harmony with nature. What impressed us most was the staff. Their responses were consistently polite and accurate in every situation, and they handled our requests flexibly. The service level was outstanding and gave us real peace of mind—exactly what you would expect from Hoshino Resorts. Meals were served buffet-style. The food quality was high and delicious, but the overall style felt fairly casual. At this price point, I personally would have enjoyed a few more elements that create a stronger sense of occasion. We also called before our stay to confirm a few things, but it was sometimes difficult to get through—perhaps because it is such a popular Accommodation. If this improves further, guests will be able to use it with even greater confidence from before making a Reservation through after their stay. Since it was Golden Week, the price was not something you can book casually. Still, considering the one-of-a-kind natural setting of Oirase Gorge, the unique experiences offered by Hoshino Resorts, and the high level of service from the staff, it’s easy to understand why so many people choose this place. If you’re visiting Oirase Gorge, I think this is an Accommodation well worth experiencing at least once.

    The Best Location and Service for Exploring the Oirase Gorge

    We had planned to stroll along the Oirase Gorge, but unfortunately it rained. The forecast before we left was sunny, so we underestimated the need for rain gear and prepared ourselves to get wet. However, they lent us umbrellas and rain boots, and also provided a Shuttle Service by bus, which was a great help.

    The Facility and amenities were excellent, but the meals were disappointing.

    Although it is a buffet-style restaurant, some items did not seem locally sourced, and there were no dishes that reflected the season. The food also did not taste like it was prepared by a professional chef. It was disappointing.

    Overall satisfied, but a smartphone is required to scan the QR code.

    Overall, we were very satisfied. However, please note the following points. At the front desk, you are asked to scan a QR code to view the Hotel information guide. Dinner and breakfast Reservations are also made via QR code. I am comfortable using QR codes, but some seniors who are not used to them may feel confused. The front desk staff said they would help if it doesn’t work, so it may not be a major issue in practice. Making dinner/breakfast Reservations by QR code is fine, but in my case the confirmation URL arrived immediately when booking dinner. When booking breakfast, I scanned the QR code and registered my email address, but it took 25 minutes for the confirmation URL to arrive. Emails usually arrive within a few minutes, but depending on routing they can sometimes take tens of minutes. If we had explained the situation at the breakfast counter, they might have been able to assist us; however, we waited 25 minutes until registration was completed and then went to check in for breakfast. We had plenty of time so it wasn’t a big problem, but someone in a hurry might have been stressed. Even if you continue using QR codes, using SMS (text messages) instead of email could likely eliminate delays before completing registration.

    The season of fresh greenery is wonderful, isn’t it?

    The open-air bath surrounded by the mountain stream and fresh greenery was wonderful. The staff were also very courteous, and we had a comfortable stay. I would rate the food a 4, but considering the points below, it becomes a 3. Now, regarding what concerned me, listed in order of disappointment: 1. At the Apple Kitchen, additional orders such as alcohol must be placed at the counter, and if you order draft beer, it is handed to you on the spot. You then have to carry it back to your seat yourself—being careful not to spill—through a crowded area with other guests. For wine bottles plus glasses for each person, staff brought them to our table. However, I think this needs improvement. If it were an all-you-can-drink self-serve style, I wouldn’t mind, but I have never experienced this when each item is charged separately. Honestly, it made me sad. 2. The selection of alcoholic drinks is limited. There are only two bottle wines (red and white), and there is no sparkling wine at all. This seems easy to improve, so I hope you will consider it. 3. Upon arrival there is welcome drink service at the far end of the lobby, which is great; however, many guests who appeared to be on a Multiple Night Stay were occupying seats in loungewear and relaxing extensively there. That did not feel pleasant for new arrivals. In many places seats were left unused while guests kept their own drinks and snacks on them; I think some usage limits should be considered as well. We managed to find one seat available at the last moment, but we did not feel like staying long at all. 4. Water is provided in the refrigerator in the Room, but it is not in plastic bottles (PET bottles). This was also my first time experiencing that. 5. In the men’s bath changing area there are about five sinks/faucets (I believe). In addition, there are only three hair dryers—far too few.

    Excellent service

    I stayed here during the autumn foliage season before, and this time I returned because I wanted to see Oirase in winter. I felt that the staff’s excellent service had improved even more since my last visit. The Hotel offers a wide variety of activities—so many that one night wasn’t enough to enjoy them all. The Oirase Gorge in winter was just as beautiful as it is during the fall colors. The Room shows a bit of age in places, but it was clean, spacious, and comfortable. For breakfast, I had a warm seafood hot pot on the terrace, and it was absolutely delicious. Thank you for helping me make so many wonderful memories.

    I stayed at Hoshino ...

    I stayed at Hoshino Resorts for the first time. Overall, it seemed to cater primarily to inbound guests. The fire performances, activities, welcome drinks, and meals all appeared designed with international visitors in mind. I noticed very few Japanese-speaking guests; most seemed to be from overseas. However, even though there were some lively children, their parents managed them well, and overall the guests were familiar with Japanese customs. In fact, I observed interactions between restaurant staff and guests that exceeded typical Japanese standards of hospitality. Encounters with other guests in the public bath or elevators also left a positive impression—it was a unique experience in a good way. Perhaps this is what defines the Hoshino brand. The lobby features decor inspired by Jomon-era pottery chimneys (a unique touch reflecting Aomori's Sannai-Maruyama and Korekawa sites), which adds cultural depth to the facility’s design. While many visitors took photos against scenic backdrops outside, it felt like a missed opportunity not to highlight these cultural elements more prominently—perhaps explanatory signs could be added. I stayed in a semi-open-air room with an attached bath that was spacious and had perfect water temperature and ventilation—truly excellent facilities. After check-in, I initially used the public bath (which also impressed me with its temperature, size, and views), but after experiencing my private bath in the room later on, I didn’t feel like returning to the public one again. One small suggestion: when rooms have private baths like this one does, it would be helpful if foot mats or towels specifically for drying feet were provided nearby beforehand. While there were face towels and bath towels available near my bathroom area—which I ended up using—it wasn’t clear if they were intended for this purpose. Meals required prior reservations via smartphone—a system that worked seamlessly without any waiting or crowding issues—and allowed me to enjoy dining comfortably (though admittedly indulging too much). This reservation system was new to me but highly effective. Regarding meal venues: when using trays while selecting dishes at buffet-style stations during meals such as breakfast or dinner service times—I noticed both myself & others struggled occasionally finding convenient spots nearby where trays could temporarily rest while serving ourselves food items off counters/tables etc., so perhaps adding designated tray-holding areas closer-by might improve guest convenience further?

    Relaxing and soothing time

    The spacious and open entrance, along with the lighting reflecting off the view from the windows, was stunning and soothing. The meals were delicious, offering a full experience of both seafood and mountain delicacies. The freshly baked apple pie with ice cream was as recommended—absolutely delightful. A staff member who happened to take our photo kindly informed us about lighting the season's first fire in the fireplace, adding to our enjoyment of the evening bar. The fresh herbal tea became a memorable taste for us. The staff's warm smiles and attentive service made our stay even more pleasant! As for improvements, it would be more convenient if there were a handle on the water pot in the Room’s refrigerator.

    Surrounded by nature, it was a truly enjoyable experience.

    The soothing sounds of the Oirase Stream were truly healing. The service provided by the Hotel staff was excellent, and I had a wonderful three-day stay.

    Business Hotel?

    The accommodation has a business hotel-like setup. Amenities are self-service from the area near the elevator. Water for the room is taken from water dispensers on each floor and stored in the refrigerator. Some hotels I know have switched to large paper packs of water instead of plastic bottles for environmental reasons, which I support, but this approach feels different. It seems like cost-cutting measures are being marketed under a certain concept. However, all staff members were very pleasant and welcoming. The shuttle bus for the stream tour was excellent and we used it on both days of our stay. The buffet at this accommodation is average in terms of variety, content, and taste—nothing special or disappointing either way. Personally, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

    If your main focus is Oirase and you have no other expectations, you'll be satisfied.

    The lobby is lovely, and the apple juice is excellent! However, something feels missing. Returning from a stream walk in the afternoon, there’s nothing to eat—no cakes or light snacks at a café, no bread at the shop, and no room service. In the morning, there’s no newspaper hanging on the door, towels are left as they are, and not enough coffee packets for everyone. It would be great to see thoughtful touches like those at KAI Omachi—such as grilling oyaki upon arrival or offering local tea in the bath.

    Accommodation to Enjoy the Oirase Stream

    This accommodation is a good choice for enjoying the Oirase Stream. However, if staying for two nights during the season is a must, perhaps the breakfast and dinner options could use more variety. The live kitchen offerings didn’t seem to change much—maybe just the soup and two or three other dishes? Among all the Hoshino accommodations I’ve stayed at so far, this one might not have been the best. The room, however, was as impressive as expected.

    The Facility was very relaxing! However, it was disappointing that the information provided by the Hotel beforehand was different from reality. I asked about how to get to Lake Towada and was told in a way that made it seem impossible. In fact, JR buses were running, and I used them. The Hotel also operates double-decker buses, so why wasn’t this information shared? That’s the only disappointment.

    Amenities, Meals

    Razors and toothbrushes are available on the first floor. Toothbrushes are usually provided in the room, and razors in the bathroom. Some guests may miss this information and find it inconvenient to shave in the bathroom. Meal Reservations: Although check-in was at 3:00 PM, dinner reservations around 6:00 PM were unavailable, resulting in a reservation at 5:45 PM. Breakfast was reserved for 8:00 AM but was available when arriving slightly after 7:00 AM. There may be some dissatisfaction with meal reservation times. Meal Content: The meal quality left slight dissatisfaction considering the price.

    Open-air Bath

    Many international guests visit, so we would appreciate more awareness about proper bathing etiquette. There were panels explaining how to bathe, but some guests entered the bath without washing their bodies or rinsing with water first. It was unpleasant, and I couldn't fully enjoy the Onsen experience. The buffet was somewhat disappointing and did not match its price. The streamside lounge had a great view, delicious herbal tea, and provided a relaxing atmosphere. Thank you very much!

    It was a wonderful space.

    The Room was at the end, so the view from the window was a bit disappointing as it faced the wall of an old building. The air purifier was broken. Aside from these two points, it was a lovely Hotel, and areas like the entrance and deck matched the photos perfectly. It would have been even better if the open-air bath were closer to the stream.

    Large Hotel in Nature

    There are few Hotels around the Oirase Gorge area, so this is a fairly large Hotel accommodating many guests. The entrance and lobby had a stylish atmosphere, though it felt somewhat more casual compared to other Hoshino Resorts (the price reflects this as well). The guest rooms were spacious, with views of abundant nature outside the windows. Despite being a large Hotel, it was quiet and allowed for a relaxing stay. There were various paid activities available; participating in them might have enhanced the experience of enjoying nature even more. Meals were served buffet-style. The apples were incredibly delicious, and I enjoyed many dishes made with apples. One concern was about the bath facilities. While the quality of the hot spring water was excellent, there were many guests who seemed to be from overseas and it was slightly noisy at times. Additionally, some entered the bath without rinsing themselves first, which was quite unpleasant. It would be better if stricter reminders or notices could be provided regarding proper etiquette. That said, as expected from such a popular Hotel that is hard to book reservations for, overall it was an excellent experience!

    I had a Multiple Night Stay.

    This was my second stay, and I had a Multiple Night Stay. The weather was great, allowing us to enjoy a walk along the Oirase Stream. As with my previous visit, the Hotel's Facility, staff service, and meals met my expectations. However, I noticed some small insects floating in the open-air bath (seems to be only in the men's bath), which was a bit disappointing despite understanding it might be unavoidable. Overall, it is a wonderful Hotel where my family of three had a relaxing and enjoyable time. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Wonderful! There are more foreign guests than Japanese!

    Stay in a room on the streamside of the East Wing for one night! Although it was on the 2nd floor and the stream was barely visible, the view of Oirase Stream's trees was absolutely stunning. The room is spacious and comfortable, the staff's hospitality is very refined, the Onsen is relaxing, and the food is delicious. I definitely want to visit again! However, there’s one thing I noticed. There were many Chinese tourists... Whether in the bath, during meals, or even in that famous lounge, Chinese conversations filled the air instead of Japanese. Everyone seemed to love chatting endlessly, which made it honestly quite noisy—especially in the bath. That’s my only concern; everything else was truly wonderful!
