    We had a relaxing stay.

Dinner, especially the meat dish, was incredibly delicious, and the service was polished and pleasant. The front desk felt rather businesslike, and neither check-in nor check-out left a great impression; however, the person who saw us off at the entrance after check-out—perhaps the manager?—was exceptionally kind, and it made me want to stay again. The building and Facility are showing their age, but everything was thoroughly cleaned, so we were able to spend our time comfortably. My daughter was delighted to find cleansing oil and face wash in the room. These days even luxury Hotel often provide only toner and lotion, so having other items available was very convenient. We also enjoyed the harpsichord concert and a walk around the area, so even with just one night it felt very fulfilling.

Wonderful atmosphere, music, and scenery—we also enjoyed an incredibly beautiful sunrise.

    The Facility is good, but...

My wife and I stayed here together. At check-in, the front desk staff member’s explanation was curt and hard to understand, and when I asked them to repeat it, their attitude was basically “listen properly,” which was very unpleasant. Overall, none of the staff seemed to smile, and even when we asked questions, the responses felt cold and unwelcoming, which was disappointing. Dinner was average, though the soup was delicious. The breakfast buffet was also average and not much different from a Business Hotel breakfast.<br> The Facility itself is nice, with walking trails and such, but although I have booked Accommodation through IKYU many times, this was the first time I felt disappointed by a Hotel.

Yatsugatake Kogen Lodge in High Season

This was my third visit, following my stay in February. It was my first time staying at Yatsugatake Kogen Lodge during the high season, and I had been looking forward to it. My impression this time was that the lodge was lively and bustling with many guests. I also felt there were more staff members than usual—perhaps including temporary hires—which really conveyed the summer atmosphere. Even so, the serene ambiance remained unchanged, and after dinner I was able to relax quietly in the lobby lounge. As for dining, dinner was a course meal at Hanagoyomi. Perhaps due to the Plan I purchased, it was a simplified course with only a meat main dish. The food, however, was as carefully prepared and delicious as it had been in midwinter. Breakfast was buffet-style, with more variety than in winter—I enjoyed it so much that I ended up eating quite a lot. After breakfast and before checkout, I went for a walk to Misuzu Pond. I usually drive there, but this time I took the walking path. The trail was well maintained and easy to walk on, and strolling through the forest between vacation homes felt truly refreshing. Misuzu Pond in summer was beautiful, though unfortunately the Yatsugatake mountain range was hidden by clouds. On the way home I stopped by Kiyosato; it was crowded with many people. Even in midsummer, however, the lodge remains quiet and comfortable. I will be sure to visit again regardless of season.

    Accommodation with Concert Ticket

This stay included a piano solo concert. This Hotel is a cool, green retreat away from the hot city. The hospitality and dinner were excellent, and five female friends joined together. At dinner, we ordered a bottle of red wine for the first time to pair with the delicious food and finished it all—making it a wonderful memory.

    Thank you for your support.

It was a wonderful stay. The Room was clean, and we really enjoyed the delicious meals. The authentic French cuisine was excellent—both the fish and the meat were delicious. We took walks around the Hotel, spent time in the lobby, and relaxed at a leisurely pace. We would love to visit again. On our way home, we stopped by Kamikochi.

This time was a bit disappointing...

I have been staying here for over 20 years. I’ve had minor complaints from time to time, but this time I was truly disappointed, so I’m posting a Review for the first time. When making an online Reservation, there was a field for “Requests to the Facility,” so I wrote, “One male guest does not like tomatoes.” At check-in, the front desk staff also confirmed this and even handwrote “Doesn’t like tomatoes” on the dinner voucher. When we went to the restaurant for dinner, cherry tomatoes were included in the appetizer salad. I had a bad feeling, but since they could simply be set aside, I didn’t say anything to the server. However, the main fish dish was white fish with tomato sauce and was served as is. I told the service staff that we had requested “no tomatoes” both at Reservation and at check-in. They hurriedly took the plate away, and what came out instead was white fish without any sauce. (On a previous stay when we made a similar request, they prepared one dish seasoned without using tomatoes.) What disappointed me this time were these two points: 1) Despite making the request both at Reservation and at check-in, it was completely overlooked. (This may have been just a preference issue this time, but if it had been an allergy-related request, it could have led to health problems.) 2) After taking away the fish dish, they brought back a plate that simply omitted only the tomato sauce. Serving a dish designed to be completed with tomato sauce minus only that sauce is essentially serving an unfinished dish. Even if—giving them every benefit of doubt—the information that a guest “doesn’t like tomatoes” did not reach the kitchen, I still would have wanted them to complete the dish by substituting something rather than merely subtracting an element. This Facility has long been one of my favorites. This incident alone doesn’t mean I will never come again. Precisely because it’s a favorite place of mine, I wanted to offer this criticism. I hope you will find it helpful going forward.

    Summer Vacation

    Enjoy Yatsugatake in summer.

This was my first time staying here. The staff assisting guests around the lodge and hut front desks were excellent—truly what you would expect from a long-established Hotel. Thank you very much. Given the setting within a villa area, it feels best suited for those who want to relax quietly in a natural environment. The breakfast buffet had limited variety, the rooms and amenities were simple, and the Facility and equipment felt modest. This time, we enjoyed dinner at a specially used hut, as well as a concert at the music hall after checkout the next day. I was a little surprised that so many seats were filled at the music hall even though it was Monday afternoon right after the Obon holidays. It may be because it is such a well-known venue. Overall, we were able to spend a very relaxing time.

I have stayed here several times on my own in the past, and my two daughters always said they wanted to visit whenever I showed them the photos. This time, I stayed here with both of them. The Room was spacious enough even with an extra bed, and even with three of us, having three mirrors meant getting ready was stress-free. Breakfast is always truly delicious. I come here when I want to spend some quiet time alone, so next time I will visit again by myself.

So much to look forward to

I stayed alone because I wanted to hear the harpsichord in the concert hall. Since I don’t drive, whether Shuttle Service is available is the most important factor when choosing a Hotel. After making my Reservation, I realized the Koumi Line was suspended and panicked, but they kindly came to pick me up at Kobuchizawa Station, which was a huge help. The next morning, I joined the nature walk. The usual nature guide was off that day, so a front desk staff member led us instead. They seemed a bit inexperienced but guided us with great effort and warmth, and I really enjoyed it. After check-out, I joined the pottery class. With friendly staff and their kind instruction, even I was able to make an adorable figurine—I was very satisfied. This Hotel offers so much more than just an Accommodation.

A quiet Hotel surrounded by tranquility on the plateau

We stayed here to attend a concert at Yatsugatake Ongakudo. It had a pleasant highland resort atmosphere. The view from the breakfast buffet venue was great, and the food was delicious. We were able to spend a relaxing, unhurried time.

    A Classic Hotel Getaway

Without a car, I enjoyed two consecutive days of concerts at the music hall at a relaxed pace. It was a wonderful summer getaway, enjoying my favorite musicians in a bright, intimate space. Locking up with a key and the way insects can slip in through the screen door also brought back nostalgic memories. I think it’s important to embrace the slower pace. I’ll be back if there’s another live show I want to see.

Revisited for the first time in 10 years. I came back believing it was an outstanding Hotel, and that impression was absolutely confirmed. In particular, the hospitality and service were exceptional! Dinner was flawless (honestly, I felt it might be the best in Japan). If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that there weren’t enough towels. This is the one point I really hope will be improved as soon as possible.

    The Good Old Days

I was able to get tickets for a concert at the music hall I’d been wanting to visit every year, so I stayed here. The fireplace and the charming atmosphere of a bygone era were wonderful. However, although I understand it may be unavoidable, it was disappointing to see how much the building and Facility have aged. I hope you can find ways to turn that age into a positive. It seems you have long-time regular guests, but given the price, if things remain as they used to be, it may be difficult for new guests to choose a second stay. The front desk and staff were kind and their good character came through, but the service was not very polished. For dinner I had the Japanese set meal included with my stay. I could tell care had been taken, but the seasoning felt outdated and disappointing. The quality of the ingredients also seemed poor. The breakfast buffet had variety, but it felt rough and didn’t whet my appetite. The chef’s omelet was made with care and was delicious. Since this is Yatsugatake, I would love to see more use of local vegetables and fruit. The music hall staff also gave an impression of being somewhat inexperienced in customer service. While an artist was singing, they told guests returning from the restroom to go back to their seats, which felt disrespectful to the artist. During a live performance, more flexible handling is needed. I hope this Hotel will not rely on its history alone, but will incorporate new ideas and be reborn as an even more appealing place.

    A Classic Highland Hotel

This is an elegant Hotel in a summer resort area. The Rooms and Facilities show some age, but key functions—such as the plumbing—have been updated, while retaining a classic, stylish feel in details like the faucets and doorknobs. The senior staff provided courteous service, and I was able to relax in a calm atmosphere. I would love to stay again.

Seeking a Place That Feels Warm and Welcoming

A quiet lodge in a villa area just a few minutes by car from Nobeyama Station. The guest rooms feel a bit dated, but they are carefully repaired and very well cleaned, and the classic atmosphere was wonderful. At night the stars are beautiful, and there is also a Plan for astronomical observation—if the weather is good, you can enjoy an amazing starry sky. Late at night, many deer appeared, and I was surprised to be able to watch them from the Room balcony. The only disappointment was that dinner started very late. It was scheduled for 7:00 PM but, due to crowding, it began at 7:45 PM—and there was no update for over 30 minutes. At check-in we were told that because it was busy we would be contacted as soon as preparations were ready, but we were not given an approximate time frame and received no message during that period. After more than 30 minutes had passed I became quite worried and called the front desk myself. (No one answered at the restaurant no matter how many times I called.) If it will be delayed by more than 30 minutes, I think guests would feel much more at ease if you contact them once the scheduled time has passed. The food itself was very delicious, but by the time we finished it was after 9:00 PM; only four or five groups were still there, and I felt bad about it. Overall, unless something happens, the Room is clean and the service is proper—so I think it’s a lovely place. If you could add a bit more hospitality on top of that, it could become an even warmer highland lodge with a truly homey feel.

    Highland Resort

While it was extremely hot outside, the lodge stayed pleasantly cool, and we were truly able to relax. Some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, so I rated it a little strictly, but the outstanding surroundings more than made up for it and we were very satisfied! We would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.

    The meals were disappointing.

This Hotel was surrounded by abundant nature and incredibly relaxing. The classic Room, the lobby and library corner, the bar where you can unwind by the fireplace, the decorations throughout the Hotel, and the architecture in harmony with nature—everything was wonderful and truly moving. It felt like receiving therapy. The only disappointing part was the dining. Le Plateau had a great atmosphere with beautiful ceiling lighting and bird ornaments, but I was disappointed that the portions were small. Also, the rosemary bread didn’t pair well with the meal, and the shrimp dish wasn’t very tasty. At breakfast, I was looking forward to Shinshu side dishes, but they were all quite salty (this may be a local style), so I could only manage a bite of each—very disappointing. It would be helpful if they could be seasoned a bit more lightly so more guests can enjoy them. Although I personally found the meals disappointing, I’d love to stay again in midsummer and have already made a repeat Reservation. I’m also looking forward to Hut opening for the summer season.

    Suite Room

Perhaps because it was the rainy season, we were able to stay at a very reasonable price. The Room was spacious and relaxing. The meals were delicious as well. The flowers arranged at the front desk and in the restaurant were truly beautiful. However, it was a shame that we couldn’t do any stargazing.

    A Wonderful, Memorable Hotel

This is a Hotel I had wanted to visit since raising my children (30 years ago). I enjoyed a harpsichord concert, observed the starry sky, and experienced something truly out of the ordinary. The outdoor concert hall was wonderful—because it was a small group, I could listen in a quiet, peaceful setting. During a break in the rainy season, I was able to take photos of the few stars that appeared through gaps in the clouds. The instructor’s explanations were excellent, and the staff member who carefully taught me how to use my phone camera was very kind. Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyed in a calm, quiet atmosphere thanks to everyone’s good manners. The breakfast omelet, tomato-braised beef tendon, yogurt, and other dishes made great use of local highland ingredients and were delicious. It felt like incredible value for money for such a wide range of experiences. It was such a lovely Hotel that it made me want to make my next Reservation right away. I hope this price will still be available for stays from July onward as well. Thank you very much to all the staff for your hospitality.

    I stayed here for th...

I stayed here for the first time on June 18–19, and it was a wonderful lodge with a truly upscale feel. In the morning, I was thrilled to see the summit of Mt. Akadake clearly from the lobby. The Room we chose was a semi-suite, and it was spacious, spotless, and came with great amenities. The full-course dinner was also excellent—I can see why people with nearby vacation homes would come just to dine here. Breakfast was a Japanese- and Western-style buffet, and I appreciated being able to order an omelet as well. One small suggestion: it would have been even better if omelets weren’t limited to plain only, and options like onion or bacon were available too.

A Harpsichord Concert and a Hotel Stay!

A Plan we happened to find! It was very affordable, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. The Room was a bit old, but it was well cleaned and we had no issues. Because the price was so low, we didn’t expect much from the meals, but everything was delicious. The apple wagyu was especially great! Breakfast was a small buffet, but it was more than enough. We went to the breakfast venue a bit late, so some items were already gone, which was disappointing. I love traveling and stay at an Accommodation somewhere every month, but I’ve never experienced food running out during service at a Hotel. Also, there were no plates available. When I told the woman in the dining area (she seemed to be the only staff member there), she asked us to wait. We started eating after she brought them out. It felt like she was doing her best just to clear tables and couldn’t keep an eye on everything else. During our stay, we also found out there is another restaurant on site—and we’ve already made a Reservation for a Plan that includes dinner at that restaurant! We were also able to enjoy a harpsichord concert, which made for a wonderful stay.

    Everything was wonderful.

After learning that Yatsugatake Hutte was once used as a drama filming location, I stayed at Yatsugatake Lodge. Dinner was a full-course meal, with dishes you can truly enjoy only at a luxury Hotel. I was very satisfied. Breakfast was served buffet-style. There was a wide variety, from Japanese dishes to bread and pancakes, plus Shinshu pickles. It felt like the kind of service only a luxury Hotel can offer. I enjoy traveling solo and stayed alone, but it seems many guests are older couples (retirees). I think it’s also well suited for solo travelers and families. I’d love to stay again someday.

We’re glad you enjoyed your stay!

Since someone else described it as “the best Accommodation ever,” I stayed here with some skepticism… but it really was wonderfully comfortable! The property was quiet, with lush greenery visible from the window, and I was able to stay at a great rate. The cleaning also seemed thorough (though I did notice the bathroom window was a bit dirty). I was very satisfied with the breakfast buffet—and ended up eating too much. You can enjoy local specialties such as bite-sized oyaki and soba, Shinshu vegetables and miso, and Yatsugatake milk. All of the staff were sincere and attentive. Thank you very much.

    Second Stay

This was my second visit; I stayed here last autumn as well. I liked the staff service, the food, and the atmosphere of the Accommodation, and although I usually stay at a different Accommodation in early summer, this time I decided on a Multiple Night Stay here. The atmosphere of the Accommodation and the surrounding environment are nice, but this time the staff’s greetings and customer service were not pleasant. To be honest, dinner on the first day was terrible. The service from the person serving the meal was also awful. Frankly, I’m disappointed. On the second day, different staff were on duty compared to day one, which was better. In particular, an older staff member provided very pleasant service, which put me at ease. The food was also better than on the first day. Although it has a charming old-fashioned appeal, it wasn’t very comfortable overall. Next time I will return to my regular Accommodation. I hope this becomes a place filled with true Hotel hospitality and heartfelt care for guests. It did not remain as a good memory for me.

    The best Hotel ever

It was wonderful! This was the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at. Honestly, I wonder if that place is an incredibly powerful spiritual spot!? Even after returning home, I expected to be tired, but my body felt so light and I was able to get through my work with ease. It was also perfect timing—the Japanese pear blossoms were in full bloom. If I don’t go again, I feel like I’ll run out of energy.
