    I stayed for two nights while sightseeing in Nagasaki. Glover Garden and Chinatown are within walking distance, and even if you get tired from walking, it’s very convenient because Oura-Kaigandori Station is right near the Hotel. The Room was clean and comfortable, making it an enjoyable trip.

    We stayed here because we needed four beds. The front desk service was satisfactory, but we were a little disappointed because the breakfast restaurant’s offerings and atmosphere were not like what was shown on the official website. Thank you for your hospitality.

    The main areas such ...

    The main areas such as the lobby, courtyard, and elevators were very chic, and once inside the building the atmosphere changed completely—it felt calm and lovely. Breakfast was buffet-style, and the Nagasaki-grown white rice was especially delicious. About the Room As some others have mentioned, I wondered whether housekeeping and linen checks are being carried out. This may be minor, but I noticed a hole in the duvet cover, an obvious stain on the bed runner, coffee stains inside a cup, dust on top of the air conditioner and in room corners, and hair under the bed. Regarding the bathroom as well—like others have said—I had expected it to some extent, but these other points stood out to me. About the breakfast venue When it gets busy, it seems you can enjoy breakfast in three indoor areas or on the terrace. I recommend seats with a view of the courtyard. However, in the room where the buffet is set up, people were constantly walking around near diners’ seats. As someone going to pick up food from the buffet, I felt a bit self-conscious. To all staff Thank you to the female staff member at reception who discreetly asked about our return time without my companion noticing; to another female staff member who explained check-in; and to a male staff member who recommended a quieter window-side seat at breakfast because it was crowded. However, at checkout when I was trying to pay for additional charges, they were stated aloud where my companion could hear. My companion later felt uncomfortable because of that. At arrival you showed us only our Room charge using a calculator display instead of saying it out loud; if that is normally your standard practice then I apologize. This is an Hotel I had wanted to stay at for quite some time—and I did have certain expectations—so my comments ended up being longer than intended. I would still like to visit again when I’m in town. Thank you very much for everything even before our stay. We truly appreciated your help.

    Flawless

    Our family of four stayed for two nights. We chose this place for the location, and it was absolutely the right choice. We also booked a Plan with breakfast, and the breakfast was excellent and very satisfying. It offered plenty of what you would want to eat in Nagasaki, while also providing all the classic staples, so it should please a wide range of guests. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

    Calming interior, with a view of the statue of Mary from the window.

    Located near the sea in a historic area including Oranda-zaka, the location was excellent. From the Room window, a solemn white statue of the Virgin Mary could be seen standing quietly, and perhaps because Nagasaki is such a special place, I felt relaxed, healed, and somehow cleansed. Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant on the same grounds were delicious, and for a trip with female friends, this Monterey Hotel—with its lovely interior—was truly satisfying.

    I made a last-minute...

    I made a last-minute Reservation because it was inexpensive. I wondered, “Is Hotel Monterey really this affordable?”—but maybe it’s because the Facility feels a bit dated, the soundproofing isn’t great, and the access is slightly inconvenient. That said, the whole Hotel and the Room are very cute! It’s especially exciting for women. At this price for one night, I’d like to stay again. There are now many functional Business Hotels near stations, so it may be tough when compared on features alone, but Hotel Monterey has a wonderful atmosphere and I hope they keep it up. *At bedtime, I found it hard to sleep because the ticking of the second hand on the round wall clock was noticeable…*

    Very satisfied.

    From the entrance, the property has a charming atmosphere, and the lobby, front desk, elevators, and courtyard all felt wonderful. Breakfast was also relaxed and unhurried, and we were very satisfied.

    The location is excellent.

    The female receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. The Room was also thoroughly cleaned. It was a comfortable, relaxing Hotel with a Western feel. There were sightseeing spots within walking distance both uphill and downhill, which was convenient. It was also affordable and great value!

    This is a Portuguese-style Hotel.

    The Portuguese-style entrance and courtyard, elevator, and tiled interiors made this a comfortable Hotel. The breakfast was also delicious.

    A cute Hotel with charming details everywhere

    I’d been curious about this place for a long time, so I was happy to finally stay here. The building, inside and out, features many charming retro Portuguese design touches that brought back memories of my trip there. The tile-fired wall clock in the Room was wonderful, and I took my time admiring the old Portuguese landscape paintings displayed in the Room and along the corridors. (I almost wished I could see all the ones on the other floors too.) The breakfast venue was lovely, but considering how crowded it was and what was offered, I felt once was enough. Also, the bath drain in the Room was a bit slow. The staff were very pleasant, and I was impressed by how thoughtfully everything is designed to evoke classic Portugal down to the smallest details. I think this Hotel is especially recommended for those who love old European buildings or who value atmosphere over minimalist functionality.

    Glover Garden

    The location is excellent, within walking distance of Glover Garden. The Room is a perfect size, and the mattress has just the right firmness, so I slept well.

    With its charming in-town atmosphere, I was especially grateful for the kind and helpful support from the front desk when I arrived in the evening and had trouble finding parking for my rental car.

    Convenient for Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) tours

    I stayed at this Hotel with No Meals Included because it was close to the meeting point for the morning Gunkanjima tour. (Pros) The front desk staff were kind. The shower had hot water right away. (Cons) Because the floor is tiled, noises from adjacent Rooms—such as chairs being moved or items being dropped—carry quite a bit.

    A Hotel where you can enjoy the feeling of being in Europe

    I made a Reservation to see the Lantern Festival. It was a unique experience to stay at a Portuguese Hotel while in Japan and enjoy a Chinese festival. There was an issue with the Hotel’s tablet at check-in, which took some time, but everything else was fine. The Room had enough humidity, so my throat didn’t feel dry after sleeping.

    It was a lovely Hotel.

    I stayed for 3 nights. The staff at the front desk and breakfast area were very pleasant, always smiling, and responded kindly to my questions and requests, which I truly appreciated. The hotel's interior and the room I stayed in were charming, making it especially appealing to women and Western guests. However, just one point... Perhaps because it's an older hotel, there was noticeable black mold on the tiles of the unit bath and sink area, which was a bit disappointing. The breakfast was delicious as well! Although it's a bit far from Nagasaki Station, its location is great with places like Dutch Slope, Glover Garden, and Chinatown within walking distance!

    The exterior was beautiful, and it was a relaxing Hotel!

    The room for single use offered a view of the courtyard, but the short walking distances within the Hotel and the convenient tram stop nearby were great. Above all, I appreciated the quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It was a lovely place where you could enjoy morning walks to landmarks and even visit the nearby sea. I would love to stay here again when visiting Nagasaki, next time with breakfast included! Just a small note: if the cleaning behind the bathtub fixtures had been more thorough, it would have been perfect.

    The staff were all very pleasant, kind, cheerful, and attentive. However, there was some dust in the Room... Dust had accumulated in frequently used areas like the bedside lamp, toilet button, and paper holder—not from nitpicking but in noticeable spots. Even a quick wipe could make a difference. That said, the location and atmosphere were great, so I would love to stay again if I have the chance.

    Solo Trip to Nagasaki

    I visited Nagasaki for a two-day, one-night trip. The highlight was the Gunkanjima Cruise! On the first day, I explored the area around the Hotel. Since I arrived early, I left my luggage at the Hotel and received a sightseeing map from the front desk to enjoy a walk around. The Hotel's convenient location allowed me to fully enjoy sightseeing. On the morning of the second day, I had reserved a Gunkanjima Cruise. The boarding point was very close, so I could start my day with plenty of time to spare. With check-out at 2:00 PM, there was no need to worry about luggage and I could fully enjoy my time. Both the exterior and interior of the Hotel were charming and comfortable. I am grateful for the polite service provided by all staff at reception. It was a wonderful trip—thank you very much!

    For my first trip to Nagasaki, I stayed at four different accommodations over four nights, ranging from luxury to business hotels. I'm so glad I chose this hotel for the final night. It was incredibly affordable, yet the exterior and interior were stunning, and it was very comfortable. The staff were polite, kind, and provided such warm hospitality that made me feel at ease. I would definitely choose this accommodation again when visiting Nagasaki!

    As soon as you enter...

    As soon as you enter the Hotel, it feels like you've been transported to a Portuguese Hotel. The bathroom features charming hand-painted tiles and a ceramic sink, and the courtyard has a lovely atmosphere. From the window of the Hotel Room, you can look down at the adorable courtyard. Adding colorful flowers would make it even closer to an authentic Portuguese Hotel experience.

    The hotel had an interesting structure. It seemed to be a renovated old building (perhaps a church?), but I forgot to confirm what it originally was. There was also a patio, giving off the vibe of a Mediterranean accommodation. Unfortunately, it rained during my stay, so I couldn't spend time relaxing there, but the view of the patio from my room was soothing. One slight disappointment was the lack of public spaces like a lobby where guests could rest or enjoy tea. The location was convenient, within walking distance to Chinatown via backstreets and close to Glover Garden—a very Nagasaki-like setting. Although my trip coincided with the busy events on August 9th and felt somewhat rushed, this accommodation is highly recommended for those who can afford a more leisurely trip and enjoy taking siestas.

    Standard Business Hotel

    Pros: The Hotel is ideally located within walking distance to Nagasaki's main attractions such as Oura Church, Glover Garden, Dutch Slope, and Shinchi Chinatown. Bus and tram stations are also nearby. The area is not a bustling nightlife district, so there is no noise disturbance at night. The staff always greet guests warmly, and daily cleaning is thorough. Cons: The Wi-Fi connection is weak, which was the most inconvenient aspect of the stay. It would be appreciated if this could be improved promptly. Additionally, as seen in other hotels too, there was a noticeable large stain on the sheets. Not knowing the cause of the stain made it feel unpleasant.

    Morning walk at Dutch Slope

    The location is excellent. Your daily walk becomes a historical exploration. Walking along the Dutch Slope in the morning allowed me to enjoy both health and sightseeing at once. The Hotel blends seamlessly into the historical surroundings.

    Despite the last-minute reservation, I was able to use it at an affordable price. Having stayed here before, the location and surrounding streets are excellent, and the exterior matches the neighborhood beautifully, making it a lovely hotel.

    Quiet and Lovely Hotel

    The front desk, Room, and interior design are all incredibly charming and uplifting. Many of the staff have wonderful smiles and provide kind and attentive service. There are many shops within walking distance of the Hotel, including coffee shops, bakeries, pizza places, castella shops, and a new Chinatown. Glover Garden, Oura Church, Gunkanjima Museum, and tours are also nearby, making it very convenient. It's a safe place for solo female travelers to stay with peace of mind.

    Located right next to the tourist attractions, it was very convenient. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly high-quality for a Business Hotel, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking is available underground, and the staff guided us there, which felt quite refreshing. This Hotel is highly recommended if your purpose is sightseeing near places like Oura Church or Glover Garden due to its proximity to these attractions. Especially since parking fees around tourist areas tend to be expensive, it's recommended to use the Hotel's parking lot if you're staying here.
