My first visit to Hakone in decades. I stayed at Matsuzakaya Honten, an Accommodation filled with elegance and tradition. From the warm welcome at the entrance to the farewell, everything was impeccable. The staff were wonderful—always smiling and greeting us. In particular, I was amazed at how fluent the international staff were in Japanese; it felt completely natural. All-you-can-drink alcohol and soft drinks were included, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Especially memorable was the grilled dried horse mackerel at breakfast—it was wonderfully rich and flavorful. Even in these times when costs are rising, I could really feel the Accommodation’s efforts. Thank you very much. P.S. A last-minute cancellation opened up, and I was truly lucky to get a Reservation at this Accommodation—often said to be “the hardest to book in Japan.” I’ve stayed at many Onsen Ryokan across Japan, and I think this one is the best. From the parking lot to the Room, I was surrounded by beautiful greenery the entire way. It was such an atmospheric Ryokan—like stepping into another world. At check-in, enjoying the greenery and the sound of the river while having delicious welcome snacks instantly made me forget the day’s busyness, fatigue, and even the intense summer heat. It felt as if time had stopped, and I became completely calm. The Room was spacious and spotless, and it even had a CD player, so I could truly relax. The indoor bath, their signature cave bath (“Cave Onsen”), and “Musou,” a private Onsen—all of them were outstanding. The food was probably the most delicious meal experience I’ve ever had during any stay. In particular, the salt-grilled ayu sweetfish, brown rice soup, and Shinshu Orein pork shoulder loin were exceptional. After check-out, it was also fun to take a walk along the promenade trail. Thank you to all the staff for your kind hospitality. This is an Accommodation that exceeds expectations—I had a deeply satisfying stay. Now I understand why it’s so hard to get a Reservation. I’d love to come back in another season!

We made a Reservation to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was very calm, and it was so quiet and relaxing that we almost forgot we were in Dogo. The Onsen was wonderful, and we were amazed by the generous breakfast. We enjoyed a luxurious meal in the morning and then relaxed again in the Onsen. The hostess and all the staff provided outstanding service. We would love to stay here again.

After five years, we finally had the chance to stay at Otogi no Yado Komeya. Over the past five years, we made several Reservations but had to Cancel the Reservation due to circumstances. This time, determined to make it happen, we went on a summer Onsen trip. The Room, hospitality, and cuisine were all outstanding. The free-flowing Onsen in particular felt like a high-quality lotion. We left feeling refreshed in both body and mind. This is our number-one Accommodation that we would love to visit again. Thank you for taking such great care of us.

This was our first stay here, and among all the places we’ve visited, it was the best Accommodation for Western-style cuisine. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality from welcome to farewell. The Room (very relaxing) and the bath (the in-room bath was more than enough) were both excellent. Above all, the meals were outstanding—both dinner and breakfast. Each dish was beautifully presented (including the tableware) and delicious, and we were amazed by how many items there were in the Japanese breakfast (we finished everything). We will definitely visit again during the autumn foliage season. One request: it would be nice to have body wash towels available in the bath area.

After finally arriving through heavy rain on this trip, we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The meals were served in a calm lounge, and we could really feel the care put into each dish. The Onsen was wonderful, but unfortunately, due to torrential rain severe enough to trigger warnings, the water temperature dropped on the morning of the second day. We were especially disappointed that we couldn’t use the bath in our Room. With expressways closed, sightseeing wasn’t possible at all, so we’d like to come back next time for a retry. The Accommodation is a pleasant, clean Hotel, and all of the staff were very kind.

From the welcoming staff to the front desk team, Room guidance, and dining staff, everyone was courteous and made us feel truly comfortable. The Room was clean, and both the indoor bath and open-air bath were very relaxing. Each dish was beautifully prepared—from seasoning to presentation—and everything was delicious. Thank you for giving us such a soothing time on this trip with friends. Next time, we would love to visit again with our family.

As we did last year, we stayed at Akagi Onsen Hotel again for a summer getaway. It had been a while since our last stay, but everything was perfect—hospitality, meals, and the Onsen. This is a Hotel you’ll want to return to again and again. We look forward to staying with you again.

It was my first trip to Aomori, and the number and quality of the dishes were outstanding—I was so full I could barely stand up. The Hotel staff were also very attentive, which made the stay even better. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

I visited Hiiragiya again. I had made a Reservation for a Room with a bath and toilet, but I was first shown to a Room without them. It was still very comfortable, but when I asked to Check Reservation, I was told there had been a mistake, and you kindly arranged for me to stay in the Room associated with author Yasunari Kawabata. Thank you for your thoughtful care. Once again, I enjoyed Kyoto’s summer flavors—chilled edamame soup topped with sea urchin, pike conger sashimi, grilled tilefish with crispy scales, jellied soft-shelled turtle broth, Kamo eggplant with sesame sauce, and more—then fully enjoyed Yoiyama and fell asleep thinking of Mr. Kawabata before continuing on to the Gion Festival. Kyoto is changing little by little, but this is the beauty of Japan—and the spirit of Japanese hospitality—that I hope will be passed on to future generations.

This time, the meals were upgraded. It’s not like the all-inclusive plans at luxury Accommodations, but it’s just right. Everything feels just right. From the quality of the Onsen I love, to the place being old yet always kept clean and tidy, and how I never get bored no matter how many times I visit or how long I stay. I don’t know why I love it this much, but I’ll be back!

Every time we visit, we’re truly impressed, and this time again we were able to enjoy a blissful stay. Thank you very much. The food was genuinely delicious, and we enjoyed it with deep gratitude. The welcome service offered plum wine, black vinegar, juice, sweets, and ice cream. We arrived early and were able to relax until dinner even after taking a bath. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and with free-flowing natural hot spring water, we could enjoy the Onsen anytime. The Room was excellent. The food was buffet-style, featuring local vegetables and specialties, along with many delicious dishes made with health in mind. I don’t often get the chance to visit Akita, but this is an Accommodation I would definitely like to return to. Thank you very much.

My first time at Zao Onsen. I love sulfur springs, and I thoroughly enjoyed both the indoor bath and the open-air bath. It was lightly raining, but they had a hat-like cover (like what Jizo statues wear) available so my head wouldn’t get wet. Thanks to that, I was able to relax in the open-air bath as well.\nThe meals were also excellent—Yamagata beef and all the other dishes were delicious. The rice was Tsuyahime, making for a high-quality dinner with local ingredients.\nThanks to the staff’s warm smiles and attentive service, I had a wonderful time.

With no real knowledge of Tsuchiyu Onsen—I'd heard the name but that was about it—we visited as a group of three with my elderly parents, relying on the great Reviews. We parked and entered into the 5th-floor lobby. The beauty of the parquet woodwork and the lush green gorge took our breath away. We checked in while enjoying welcome drinks on the sofa. Our Room on the 3rd floor was just as modern as in the photos and came with a cypress open-air bath. Before dinner, we used the large public bath on the 1st floor. The water was amazing!! A faint sulfur scent and silky water that seemed to cling to your skin. My parents were impressed too, saying it was the best Onsen water they’d ever experienced. Apparently even the shower water is from the Onsen—I’d never seen that before, so I was surprised. We went to the public bath three times during our one-night stay, and only ran into another guest once (just one person). It felt almost private, which made it even better. Dinner was served in a private room on the 4th floor. We chose Japanese cuisine. The explanations were very careful and easy to understand, and everything—from taste to presentation (including the tableware)—was beautiful; you could really feel the chef’s attention to detail. The handwritten menu also had a wonderful charm. Breakfast was also Japanese cuisine, and we were just as satisfied as we were at dinner. This trip also celebrated my mother’s birthday and mine, so we booked an Anniversary Plan. After dinner they brought out a cake, but we were too full to eat it, so they delivered it to our Room instead. After relaxing in the Onsen for a bit, we still felt full—but said “Since it’s here anyway, let’s finish it tonight,” made some coffee...and ended up eating it all! It really was delicious!! We were also happy with the parquet coaster gift—thank you very much. To all of your staff: thank you for taking such great care of us. We truly appreciate all your kindness. We will definitely come again while my parents are still healthy!

I wasn’t sure where to go in Hokkaido this time, but I decided on “Yoroushi” because I’d wanted to visit for over 30 years! Just as the Reviews said, everything was wonderful—the Room, the Onsen, and the meals. For the past few years, every time I come to Hokkaido I’ve felt that Japan’s hospitality industry is being supported by an aging workforce and by staff from overseas. I’d give it all 5s, and everyone served us with a smile and worked very hard, which was truly appreciated. That said, personally I think it would have been fine without a welcome greeting or being shown to our Room. I can talk about meals or work-related matters, but being able to have natural conversation is also a priority for me, so it was somewhat disappointing not to have that. This is not meant as criticism of foreign staff. Their Japanese was good and their service was genuinely excellent. Still, speaking honestly as someone visiting an Onsen, I felt a sense of loneliness that’s different from how things used to be.

Everything was outstanding—the maisonette-style Room, the in-room open-air bath, the shabu-shabu course, the service, and even the Takayama ramen! Next year during Golden Week, we plan to stay in the main building. Next time, we’ll go for an all-beef feast. During Obon, we’ll stay at the annex again and play golf at Shokawa Kogen Country Club.

Third stay. A Room with a pool, Kin-sen and Gin-sen hot springs, and a sauna—an endless loop from the bath to the pool to the sauna, then back to the pool and bath! You’ll feel completely refreshed. Dinner, as always, is exquisite cuisine rooted in Japanese flavors with refined Western touches. In the end, what truly stands out is the superb dashi. It’s not cheap, but I highly recommend choosing a Room with a sauna. The sauna Rooms also feature Tempur-Pedic beds for incredibly comfortable sleep—like sleeping on clouds. You can enjoy a relaxing day with your special partner.

I stayed here with my husband in winter last time, and this time with our daughter as a group of three. The Room was beautiful and spotless, and the open-air bath was wonderful. The large public bath was also quiet, and we were able to relax at our own pace. The meals were truly delicious, and we enjoyed them with our eyes as well, served in refreshing-looking tableware. The staff were kind, and we had a very comfortable stay. Next time, I’d like to visit in spring. This is my favorite Accommodation.

I was satisfied with everything—the Onsen, the service, and the meals. Soaking in the Onsen while looking out over the Tamagawa River, I was able to enjoy a truly elegant and relaxing time. The only potential issue is that parts of the road to the Hotel are unpaved, so if you’re not confident driving, I recommend using the Hotel’s Shuttle Service. If there is no snowfall or rain, driving is not a problem at all.
